(WASHINGTON) — The reversal of Roe v. Wade could lead to a dramatic increase of babies born in the United States, including thousands of high-risk births, a new report finds.

The data, from health care industry consulting firm Sg2, estimates there will be an additional 150,500 to 159,700 live births each year in the U.S. The projections have not yet been peer-reviewed.

Birth rates in the country have been declining ever since the Great Recession of 2008-09 and were only worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Researchers found limiting access to abortion in several states will boost birth rates beginning in the second half of this year.

For the report, Sg2 looked at data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2019 abortion surveillance report as well as data from the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that focuses on sexual and reproductive health.

About 808,000 to 862,000 abortions were estimated to have occurred in 2019 with 60% of those being in so-called “protected” states, where abortion access is in little danger of being restricted. The group then analyzed how many of the abortions in “restricted” states would not have been performed if the Supreme Court ruling had occurred then.

In addition to the overall increase in births, the report projected there will be a larger number of births requiring a higher level of care, between 18,400 and 19,600 per year.

Of those, 17,300 to 18,400 are expected to be babies born prematurely, including about 5,400 born early preterm, which is before 34 weeks gestation.

Premature babies are at a greater risk for problems with feeding, breathing, vision and hearing, as well as behavioral issues.

The higher level of care group also includes 1,500 to 1,600 infants born with congenital anomalies such as Down syndrome or heart defects.

Additionally, the report estimated there will be an increase in both maternal and neonatal mortality rates, especially among groups with traditionally less access to prenatal care, such as Black women.

The team suggests that in states where abortion is restricted, physicians at hospitals, clinics and other services should prepare for the increase in births as well as the increase in more babies requiring a higher level of care.

“There is no question that this ruling significantly alters the landscape for reproductive services nationwide,” the report read. “The state-level disparities that already exist in women’s health outcomes will deepen

Drake is the king of the music charts again with the #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top album on the Billboard 200.

“Jimmy Cooks,” the only collab on his new Honestly, Nevermind album, featuring 21 Savage, debuts at the top of the Hot 100 for Champagne Papi’s 11th Hot 100 No. 1. Drake also has the No. 6 track, “Sticky,” and the #7 song, “Falling Back.” Both are from his new chart-topping Honestly, Nevermind album.

The Toronto superstar is the first solo male singer to simultaneously debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 twice. On September 18, 2021, Certified Lover Boy was the top album and “Way 2 Sexy,” was the #1 single.

“Jimmy Cooks” appears to be inspired by the character Jimmy Brooks, which Drake portrayed on the CTV drama Degrassi: The Next Generation from 2001 to 2008.

As previously reported, Honestly, Nevermind debuted at #1 with 204,000 equivalent units. This is Drake’s 11th #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, making him the fifth artist to release more than 10 #1 albums. Leading the pack with 19 #1s is The Beatles, followed by Jay-Z with 14, and Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand tied with 11 each.

The 14-track album boasts the fourth-largest streaming week for an album in 2022, Billboard reports; Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar and Future make up the top three. Honestly, Nevermind is Drake’s seventh studio effort and the follow-up to Certified Lover Boy.

Walker Hayes has a new song coming next month and he’s giving fans a teaser.

Ed Sheeran has numerous awards in his trophy case, but on Sunday he was awarded one of the most meaningful honors.

Ed was granted the Freedom of the City of London — which has been given out since the 1200s! The ceremonial honor is given to those with strong ties to the city.

Ed was selected for the award because he’s a patron of the London Irish Centre, which serves as a resource for the city’s Irish population. The center provides services such as advice sessions, concerts, information, classes and more.

“I think everybody knows how much I love London and how much it’s been a part of my musical journey, so to receive the Freedom of the City today is something truly special,” the singer remarked when picking up the honor.

He noted the other recipients of the honor when declaring, “Given my family’s Irish heritage, to receive the award from London’s first Irish Lord Mayor, Vincent Keaveny, and alongside London Irish Centre friends, is a bonus.”

The other recipients were Gary Dunne and Maeve Heath, the center’s creative director and longest-serving volunteer, respectively.

Calling all Animals! Kesha‘s paranormal reality series arrives next week, and to get you all excited, she shared its official trailer.

“IM FREAKING OUT,” the hitmaker teased on Instagram. “Im so excited for y’all to see all the crazy s*** we caught on camera.” Kesha also said her series “literally has changed my life hand to god.”

The trailer shows Kesha visiting various haunted locations and trying to interact with ghosts, demons and whatever else goes bump in the night. “It’s about to get crazy,” she gloats in one scene. Other clips show her using an Ouija board, singing “Amazing Grace” to angry spirits and asking out loud, “Are we in danger?”

While Kesha adores all things spooky, the trailer proves that even she will scream in terror when faced with the unexplainable.

The Grammy nominee isn’t alone on her adventures, either. She’s brought some friends and professional paranormal experts along for the thrilling ride. Guests include comedian Whitney CummingsBachelorette star JoJo Fletcher and more.

In one clip, rapper Gata is seen heading out of a haunted building and declaring loudly, “I am gettin’ out of here, y’all.” It appears he’s not the only one who is sent heading for the hills, as the trailer also shows Kesha booking it down a hallway — but it’s unknown if she’s running toward or away from something spooky.

“To me, the supernatural comes naturally,” Kesha previously said in a statement. “It started with my insatiable curiosity, my eternal searching for something bigger than me.”

“I wanted to catch actual proof of the unexplainable. If we could catch these things on camera, then what else could be true?” she queried.

Conjuring Kesha premieres Friday, July 8, on Discovery+.

It was a very special weekend for Summer Walker: in addition to headlining “A Hot Summer Night in LA” Friday at the Crypto.com Arena featuring Jazmine Sullivan and Ari Lennox, she also revealed she’s pregnant.

Numerous fans asked if the “No Love” singer was expecting after she posted photos on Instagram Friday night in which she appeared to have a small baby bump. Saturday she made it official during an Instagram Live video.

“People asking me if I’m pregnant … I am and you know I’m very, very, very, very, happy about it,” the 26-year-old entertainer said. “I’m very, very excited because it’s going to be different from how it was before. It’s really peaceful, really happy, lots of help, lots of love.”

Summer, who has a 15-month-old daughter named Bubbles, says she made sure she announced her pregnancy this time after being angry about how her first pregnancy became public.

“Last time I felt very disrespected that people didn’t let me tell that myself,” she commented. “People were taking pictures of me in the store — I know it kind of comes with the job … [but] people took pictures of me and sent it to The Shade Room before I could even announce my pregnancy. I thought that was very disrespectful and it made me very, very, very, very, very upset.”

Walker is performing Saturday, July 2, at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, and she is one of the Essence June digital cover stars. Monday afternoon, she also announced two new shows on The Summer Walker Series Part II tour. The Billboard Women in Music award winner will perform August 6 in New York City and August 17 in Detroit. The tour wraps up September 2 in Las Vegas.

The King reigns at the box office: ‘Elvis’ edged out ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ after all
Warner Bros. Pictures

It was a dogfight at the box office over the weekend, but in the end, Elvis downed Maverick.

Newly revised numbers quoted by Variety show that Baz Luhrmann‘s Presley biopic beat Tom Cruise‘s sequel by around a million bucks — close, but still good enough for a first place finish.

The trade reports that Elvis made $31.1 million in its first weekend in theaters, while Top Gun: Maverick brought in $29.6 million in its fifth weekend in theaters. Earlier estimates had the movies tied at $30.5 million apiece.

That said, don’t feel bad for Tom: Maverick is the star’s biggest hit of his long career and flew past the billion-dollar mark at the global box office after just a month.
