Michael “Killer Mike” Render dropped his latest song and music video for “Run,” his first solo record in ten years.

The powerful new track features a verse by jailed rapper Young Thug, while the video opens with a monologue by Dave Chappelle.

Chappelle’s speech reads in part, “Mike, the one thing about being a n***a in America, it’s like storming the beach in Normandy. A guy gets popped, another guy goes, another guy falls. You just gotta keep going, gotta keep storming that beach n***a. You gotta keep runnin.'”

The war-themed video sees Mike on a battlefield where Black soldiers fight for freedom against their white oppressors. Mike told Complex of the race-based song’s release on July 4, “There would be no Fourth of July without a Black man, and the fact that Crispus Attucks was the first person to die on the behalf of what would become the republic called America.” He continued, “When people argue about [Critical Race Theory] and stuff like that, they’re arguing over something that you learn in law school, post-undergrad, and how systems have been formed to oppress you.”

The No I.D.-produced track also references the ongoing legal battle Young Thug and Gunna face and the controversial debate of whether rap lyrics should be used as evidence in court.

“I don’t think that’s fair,” Mike told Complex. “People should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that’s not only for Thug and Gunna, but someone who is presumed to be in opposition, as well, like YFN Lucci.

“I think we have a First Amendment right, and I think it should be hands-off Black art, so I support those brothers and their campaign to get a bond and get free,” he said.

(NEW YORK) — Three people were killed and 21 were wounded in shootings in New York City. Authorities reported 14 separate shootings from Monday into Tuesday morning.

In one incident on Monday, three men were shot, two fatally, inside the Spring Creek Food Mart in Brooklyn just after 11:35 p.m. A 23-year-old man was shot in the neck and a 21-year-old was shot in the head, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the New York Police Department.

The third man, 18, is in critical condition at Brookdale University Hospital. A suspect was taken into custody at the scene and police found three guns at the bodega, according to police.

John Edwards, 62, was fatally shot in the Bronx in a separate incident. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. Edwards was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The second victim, a 23-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the right leg, was also transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital and is in stable condition. A third victim, a 26-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the right arm, is listed in stable condition. There have been no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.

Edwards was not the target of the shooting, according to police.

There have been 213 homicides in the city so far this year, down 10.12% from 237 homicides last year, according to the NYPD.

The shootings come as a gunman opened fire at a parade in Highland Park, Illinois, killing six people and seriously injuring 24 others. Another July 4 shooting in Wisconsin left one person dead and four injured.

Guns N’ Roses‘ current trip to the U.K. is going through some ups and downs.

Starting with the downs, the “Welcome to the Jungle” rockers have announced that their show in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled for Monday, is being postponed due to “illness and medical advice.”

“We are working on rescheduling options for this show so please hold onto your tickets and wait for a further update,” GN’R writes in a statement. “We appreciate your understanding and patience.”

As for the ups, GN’R played two concerts at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Friday and Saturday, which each featured a surprise appearance by Carrie Underwood. The country star joined Axl Rose and company for renditions of the Guns classics “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”

You may recall that Axl previously guested during Underwood’s performance at the Stagecoach festival in May, during which they also performed those hits together.

In an Instagram post following the London collaboration, Underwood wrote, “I am but a fan who somehow managed to find her way on stage to have a moment of magic with her heroes! How did I get so lucky?”

Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino and his wife, Daniela, had an extra special fourth of July this year: They welcomed a baby daughter on July 2.

The filmmaker, 59, and his actress, model, and singer wife, 38, broke the happy news to People in a statement.

The pair met in 2009, and got engaged in June 2017. They married the following year, and welcomed their first child, son Leo, in February of 2020, after Daniela appeared in the director’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood.

Speaking of, Tarantino once told Jimmy Kimmel that Leo wasn’t named after that film’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, explaining, “We almost didn’t name him that because people would assume I named him after Leonardo DiCaprio — which, nothing wrong with that, but I didn’t.” Tarantino said the boy was named after his wife’s grandfather, and also because “in our hearts, he’s our little lion.”

Billie Eilish is back on TikTok, and she made one vocal coach’s day after surprising him with a duet.

Sheridan Coldstream is a professional vocal coach, who has posts of him playing popular songs on the piano and encouraging TikTokers to sing along. So, when he picked Billie’s “Listen Before I Go,” he probably never expected the Grammy winner, herself, would respond.

Billie shoots the video from the ground up and grins toward the camera before launching into a gorgeous rendition of her 2019 track. She didn’t caption the post but did link back to Coldstream’s.

“This is the greatest possible compliment I could ever receive!! I couldn’t be more touched and flattered,” the British vocal coach gushed in the comment section. “Still on a crazy high that this has happened! Just WOW.”

The surprise duet has since turned into a joke, with fans pretending that the post was from someone who just so happened to look and sound exactly like Billie. Comments range from “This is a really great cover. I’m sure Billie Eilish would be proud” to “have you ever thought about going on Americas Got Talent?”

Prior to this, Billie hadn’t posted on TikTok since March. Nearly 15 million people have watched her latest video.

Plans revealed for redeveloped area around Notre-Dame cathedral

(PARIS, FRANCE) — As construction crews race to meet the 2024 deadline set by French President Emmanuel Macron for the reopening of Notre-Dame, a jury chaired by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has revealed the winning project for the redevelopment of the area surrounding the cathedral.

The project, estimated at 52 million euros ($54 million), is being led by Belgian landscape architect Bas Smets, with a team composed of urban planning agency GRAU and architecture agency Neufville-Gayet.

The plan, scheduled for completion in 2027, calls for a greener and more welcoming look for Notre-Dame.

“There were three essential points for us: it was to reveal the cathedral, second to improve the connection with the Seine, and thirdly, to multiply the uses through this climatic approach,” Smets told ABC News.

A 400-meter long park will emerge along the Seine, where “people will be able to come and picnic [and] play in this magnificent place, between the south facade of the cathedral and the Seine,” Smets said. “Behind the cathedral, we will make a very large lawn of 17,000 square meters (4,2 acres), as large as the large lawn behind the Luxembourg Gardens.”

The chestnut trees around the cathedral will be supplemented by 131 new trees, including hackberries, maples and hornbeams, as well as alders, and a few oaks — an homage to the cathedral’s oak-made frame that burned in the 2019 fire that damaged the historic structure.

The underground parking garage beneath the cathedral square will be made into a reception center, called “le passage,” which Smets said will be able to fit nearly 1,000 people and include luggage storage and meeting rooms to accommodate groups, as well as access to the cathedral’s archaeological crypt.

Along the Seine, Smets said that they are going to open the walls of the quays that line the river to provide direct access to the Seine from the passage, which will be “a critical place” in this undertaking.

Cousins Amélie Vieites, 20, from Tours, and Emma Quiquemelle, 19, from Le Mans, hailed the redevelopment while visiting the site on Saturday.

Vieites said that adding trees will be “really good” for reducing pollution, while Quiquemelle told ABC News that “there aren’t a lot of green spaces in Paris, so that could make young people want to come and sit down.”

Omar Miloudi, 36, on holiday from Algiers, agreed, noting that visiting tourist sites in the summer is “a little too hot” to be “facing this heat.”

“It’s a great idea!” 47-year-old Brian Astl said of plans for the new greenery. Astl, visiting from Toronto, Canada, with his family, said he was already excited to come back to grounds for a picnic.

Officials say they hope the new-and-improved Notre-Dame will attract 12 million visitors per year, and will appeal to both tourists and Parisians.

The work on the cathedral grounds is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024.

Chris Rock and Lake Bell fueled romance rumors on Saturday after being spotted on a dinner date in Santa Monica, California.

A source tells The New York Post the duo dined for almost two hours. Rock and Bell were reportedly holding hands as they walked out of an Italian restaurant, but immediately let go of one another’s hands when they saw the photographers.

The 57-year-old comedian and 43-year-old actress were also spotted catching a Cardinals game together at St. Louis’ Busch Stadium last month.
