(CHICAGO, ILLANOIS) — Authorities are combing through social media posts they believe are associated with the 22-year-old person of interest in Monday’s mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

Six people were killed and about 24 others were seriously hurt in the suburban Chicago shooting, which police described as a “random act of violence.”

It appears the gunman fired from a roof where a high-powered rifle was recovered, police said.

Person of interest Robert “Bobby” Crimo III — who was apprehended Monday evening after an hours-long manhunt — is believed to be linked to social media posts that discuss or depict acts of violence, including shooting people, a law enforcement source briefed on the case told ABC News.

Analysts say Crimo appears to have had an extensive online presence that was littered with signs of hatred, mental health issues and a gravitation toward hard-right and neo-fascist ideologies.

The mass shooting broke out when Highland Park’s parade was about three-quarters of the way through Monday morning, authorities said. Revelers fled in panic, leaving behind empty strollers, overturned chairs and half-eaten sandwiches.

Police ran toward the shots but the gunman had already fled, Lake County Sheriff Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said at a news conference.

When the gunfire erupted, parade-goer Zoe Nicole Pawelczak grabbed her dad and started running through the sea of people.

“I saw multiple people slaughtered,” she told ABC News.

“Everybody is crying. We ended up making it behind a corner and we hid behind a dumpster. This man was there with his two very young children and he had put them in the dumpster for safety,” she said.

Pawelczak said the man wanted to leave to find his other son, and asked her to watch the two children in the dumpster.

“So I watched his kids for him,” she said. “They were like, ‘What’s going on?’ And I was like, ‘It’s just fireworks, it’s OK,’ just trying to keep them calm.”

Dr. David Baum was watching his grandson, daughter and son-in-law march in the parade when the gunfire began.

“Bodies were horribly, horribly, horribly injured from, you know, guns and bullets that were made for war — not for parades,” Baum said of some of the victims.

“The paramedics went quickly and assessed the damages — saw bodies that were blown apart and put a blanket over them quickly. And then went on to try and help other people,” he told ABC News. “These are injuries that nobody should have to see.”

Five people — all adults — died at the scene and a sixth victim died at a hospital, said Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The NorthShore University Health System said it received a total of 31 patients; most suffered gunshot wounds and a few were hurt in the chaos. At least one child was critically injured, Highland Park Fire Chief Joe Schrage said.

Crimo was at large for hours after the shooting. After police released an image of Crimo and his car Monday evening, he was spotted driving and led police on a brief pursuit, authorities said.

He was stopped at U.S. Highway 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest, Illinois, where he surrendered, according to police.

The neighboring suburb of Evanston canceled its own Fourth of July parade in the wake of the shooting, Evanston police said.

President Joe Biden said in a statement that he “surged Federal law enforcement to assist in the urgent search for the shooter.”

“Members of the community should follow guidance from leadership on the ground, and I will monitor closely as we learn more about those whose lives have been lost and pray for those who are in the hospital with grievous injuries,” Biden said.

He noted that he recently signed into law the most significant gun control legislation in decades, adding, “But there is much more work to do, and I’m not going to give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence.”

Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement, “On what should be a celebratory day with family and friends, we are grieving the lives that were taken in another act of senseless gun violence.”

“More should be done to address gun violence in our country,” she said. “President Biden recently signed into law the first major bipartisan gun reform legislation in almost 30 years — and we will continue fighting to end this senseless violence.”

In an impassioned statement Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said, “There are no words for the kind of monster who lives in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children celebrating a holiday with their community. There are no words for the kind of evil that robs our neighbors of their hopes, their dreams, their futures.”

“Prayers alone will not put a stop to the terror of rampant gun violence in our country,” the governor wrote. “We must — and we will — end this plague of gun violence.”

Representatives of the gun reform group March For Our Lives, founded by survivors of the 2018 high school mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, said in a statement, “Just three weeks ago, young people organized a March For Our Lives in Highland Park, along with communities across the country.”

“We are grieving for the horrific loss of life in Highland Park, and the carnage brought on by a high-powered rifle,” they said. “We wish eternal peace for those who were murdered, and we will fight like hell for the living.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is among the leaders reacting to the nation’s latest mass shooting, tweeting, “Not even a parade on the Fourth of July celebrating our nation’s independence is immune from our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Tomorrow, I will sign seven sweeping commonsense gun safety bills into law. We cannot wait.”

Law enforcement has long been concerned about gunmen firing from elevated positions, which police say can give them a strategic advantage.

The deadliest example of that is the 2017 Las Vegas massacre, during which the shooter took up a window position in the Mandalay Bay hotel. Fifty-nine people were killed in what became the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

In the wake of the Vegas massacre, law enforcement around the country placed a greater emphasis on securing elevated locations surrounding public events, but police have acknowledged how daunting a task it is to secure all such positions.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Backstreet Boys had a surprise sixth member on stage with them when they played Toronto over the weekend: Drake.

The superstar rapper joined Backstreet for their signature song “I Want It That Way,” and shared a touching story about why the 1999 hit means so much to him.

Drake, whose mother is Jewish, told the crowd that when he was 13, he had a bar mitzvah, which is the traditional Jewish coming-of-age ritual for boys.  And it was at his bar mitzvah, Drake says, when, “for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her.”

That song, of course, was “I Want It That Way.” Drake told the audience, “It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like I had a shot at being cool.”

You can watch Drake’s speech and the entire performance in fan-recorded video on YouTube.

Backstreet Boys are currently on their DNA World Tour. They’ll perform in Burgettstown, PA Tuesday night.

Method Man apologizes to Destiny’s Child for moment he treated them poorly

Starz

Method Man is atoning for his past behavior.

While appearing on Sunday’s episode of My Expert Opinion with Math Hoffa, the rapper recalled a moment in his life when he had “low self-esteem,” which resulted in him acting poorly toward multiple people, including Destiny’s Child members BeyoncéKelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Remembering a 2001 MTV event to celebrate Janet Jackson‘s legendary career, the Wu-Tang Clan member said he approached the trio to say hi and “they didn’t even turn around and acknowledge me.” However, it was all a simple misunderstanding.

“Now, my a**, in my head, with my low self-esteem is like, “They just s****** on me.’ When in fact, they didn’t even hear me…It was so loud…That’s the excuse that I’m giving right now — they didn’t even f****** hear me,” he shared.

Method Man went on to explain, “Afterward, Rockwilder…comes over, he’s talking to them, he’s like, ‘Oh, you know Red and Meth?’ And [Destiny’s Child] put their hands out to shake, and I kept my hand here and was like, ‘Go ’head with that Hollywood s***.'”

Reflecting on the moment, Meth clarified that “neither Kelly, Beyoncé, or Michelle ever did any-f****-thing to me” and blamed his actions on him “being so miserable.”

“And to this day, man, I don’t think I’ve ever apologized for that,” he said before adding, “I apologize to Beyoncé, I apologize to Kelly Rowland and Michelle — y’all did not deserve that, at all.”

Kane Brown, daughter Kingsley are just too cute

Kane Brown and his 2-year-old daughter, Kingsley, are best friends forever, and the singer’s got proof. On social media, he shared an adorable video of a game he and his daughter play that, it seems, they made up themselves.

The rules are simple: Kingsley sits by the sink, while Kane inspects the faucet. As soon as he gets too close, Kingsley turns the water on, prompting Kane to jump back in faux shock.

Each time her country star dad flew back from the sink, Kingsley burst into giggles, and the results made for one adorable daddy-daughter moment.

“You turned it off, too?! That’s crazy,” Kane says at one point in the clip, over his daughter’s peals of laughter. Towards the end of the clip, Kane gets his face all the way under the tap before Kingsley turns the water on — and of course, he winds up sopping wet.

“My best friend,” the country star writes in the caption.

It should come as no surprise to fans that Kane’s a big family man. He frequently posts sweet photos and videos of himself hanging out with his wife, Katelyn, and their two daughters: Kingsley and her younger sister, 6-month-old Kodi.

Taylor Swift’s stalker arrested, jailed, slapped with protection order

Taylor Swift’s stalker arrested, jailed, slapped with protection order

A man who allegedly stalked Taylor Swift “across multiple states,” including New York, was arrested and charged with stalking and criminal trespass over the weekend, the New York Post reports.

Police said 35-year-old Joshua Christian went to Taylor’s New York City home in March and on June 12. According to the assistant district attorney, Christian allegedly spoke into the intercom at the property and said, “You’re holding her prisoner and I need to set her free.”

In March, Christian allegedly got into Swift’s New York City home through an unlocked door and stayed there until security confronted him.  At Christian’s arraignment in Manhattan criminal court, a prosecutor said that Christian had traveled to Taylor’s house in Tennessee as well.  The police are also investigating an additional incident of alleged stalking.

A judge issued a full order of protection for Christian to stay away from Taylor. He set bail at $1, but also sent Christian to jail without bail for fleeing a reckless driving charge in Florida.  He has a July 28 court date in that case.

The New York Post reports that during Christian’s court appearance, he yelled that he was a Christian scientist, said he didn’t want his Legal Aid lawyer to represent him, and called the proceedings “the worst miscarriage of justice since the crucifixion of Christ Jesus.”

Christian’s lawyer has requested that Christian undergo a psychiatric and mental evaluation.

In Brief: ‘Frasier’ reboot getting off the ground this fall, and more

In Brief: ‘Frasier’ reboot getting off the ground this fall, and more

That long-awaited Frasier revival could begin shooting this fall. During an appearance on CBS’ The Talk on Monday, Kelsey Grammer, who played the titular psychologist and radio show host on the NBC sitcom, which ran from 1993-2004, revealed they were “in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot and it looks pretty good.” He added, “I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I’m happy. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Grammer said last year last year that the character, who moved from Boston to Seattle for the original series, “thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction…And he ends up rich beyond his dreams”…

Avatar director James Cameron previously revealed his vision to follow up the original 2009 blockbuster with an epic four-film saga, but with the first of them, Avatar: The Way of Water, set to hit theaters in December and a third already in the can, the legendary filmmaker tells Empire he may be ready to “pass the baton” to another director. “The Avatar films themselves are kind of all-consuming,” he explains. “I’ve got some other things I’m developing as well that are exciting. I think eventually over time — I don’t know if that’s after three or after four — I’ll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over, so I can go do some other stuff that I’m also interested in. Or maybe not. I don’t know”…

After leaving the NBC daytime soap Days of Our Lives in 2020 after a 37-year stint, Kristian Alfonso is reprising her role of Hope Williams Brady in the Days spinoff Beyond Salem — seeming to contradict an earlier statement. However, Alfonso insists it’s not a return, telling Soap Opera Digest, “[Beyond Salem] is, I feel, a branch of it…I have seen online where viewers have stated that I said, ‘Never’ regarding [returning someday] — I never said never. I said that I will not be popping in and out like other actors have done in the past. I didn’t say I’m never, ever coming back. I was not absolute.” Beyond Salem premieres July 11 on Peacock…

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan took to Twitter to express her frustration about the mass shooting that occurred at the July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois on Monday.

“I grew up in Highland Park and this parade is a highlight of the year for so many families. I’m sick to my stomach every time news like this comes out,” the actress tweeted. “But I don’t wish the pit in your stomach as you call your family and friends to make sure everyone is okay on anyone. No words.”

The tweet comes after a gunman opened fire on a Fourth of July parade in the Midwest city on Monday, killing at least six people and injuring over 30, including children. Five of the victims died at the scene of the shooting while one died at a hospital, according to officials.

Robert “Bobby” Crimo III was arrested in connection with the shooting and described as a person of interest following a vehicular pursuit Monday evening after an hours-long manhunt, police said. As of Monday night he has not been charged in connection with the shooting.

Harry Styles was set to perform in Denmark Sunday as part of his Love on Tour gig, but canceled after there was a mass shooting at a nearby mall.

“I’m heartbroken along with the people of Copenhagen,” Harry tweeted Sunday night. “I adore this city. The people are so warm and full of love.”

“I’m devastated for the victims, their families, and everyone hurting,” he continued. “I’m sorry we couldn’t be together. Please look after each other. H.”

Hours before Harry was supposed to take the stage at Denmark’s Royal Arena, a mass shooting occurred at a Copenhagen mall that left three dead and many others injured, according to ABC News. The arena was subsequently shut down by order of police, which led to the cancellation of the former One Direction member’s concert.

On Snapchat, Styles wrote: “My team and I pray for everyone involved in the Copenhagen shopping mall shooting. I am shocked. Love H.”

A 22-year-old Danish man was arrested after the shooting, police told reporters, adding there was no indication that anyone else was involved in the attack, though police are still investigating.

It’s summer, and lots of families are heading to the pool, lake or beach. But amid all the festivities, it’s also important to keep safety first: According to the CDC, aside from birth defects, drowning is the leading cause of death in children under age four.

For Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, that statistic is personal. Their three-year-old son, River, died in a drowning accident at home in June of 2019.

Amber remembers telling her two other children, Lincoln and London — who were five and seven at the time — the devastating news.

“We went home with that intention of being very honest…” she recounts to People. “We said, ‘River was without oxygen for too long. They did everything they could but Bubbie died…And then we let them process their emotions and told them whatever they’re feeling…it’s OK.”

In 2021, Granger and Amber welcomed baby boy Maverick, and the couple put their infant son in ISR (infant swim rescue) lessons in order to help him learn how to stay afloat if he should ever fall into the water.

“He can barely crawl, but now he knows how to hold his breath, twist his body , find the air, float on his back and cry,” she wrote on socials, posting a video of his 10th lesson. “…He has the skills to float until help comes.”

Amber has also been a staunch advocate for water safety awareness for all families. “Thinking that adult supervision is enough is a DEADLY miscalculation,” she says. “Hear me. I used to think that too.”

“It’s a song about triumph”: Lainey Wilson shares message behind new single, “Heart Like a Truck”

“It’s a song about triumph”: Lainey Wilson shares message behind new single, “Heart Like a Truck”
“It’s a song about triumph”: Lainey Wilson shares message behind new single, “Heart Like a Truck”
ABC

Lainey Wilson tells a story of resilience in her new single, “Heart Like a Truck,” with lyrics that reflect on the tough times that help shape a person into who they’re supposed to be.

“‘Heart Like a Truck’ is a song about finding freedom and strength, and not being scared of the scars and the dents and the bumps along the way,” she says. “At the end of the day, that’s what builds character.”

Lainey knows firsthand how hard times help build strength. When she first moved to Nashville, she spent three years living in a camper and struggling to make ends meet as she chased her dream. Of course, those lean times paid off: Lainey is now a bona fide country star, with two #1 country singles to her name.

But she tells a different side of that story in the music video for her song. Instead of being centered around a country music hopeful in Nashville, the clip takes Lainey to a ranch, where she plays the role of a young woman struggling to find her way as a horse handler.

“It’s telling a story about a ranch girl who’s got a lot to prove to herself and everybody else,” the singer details. “And in the end, she does it. It’s a song about triumph. It’s a video about triumph.”
