As he usually does when he appears on The Late Late Show, Tom Cruise poked fun at his pal James Corden on Tuesday night.

The Top Gun star appeared in the show’s green-room introduction segment, and chimed in on Corden’s recent announcement that this would be his last season in The Late Late Show‘s host chair.

“James! It’s such a privilege to be here, and I’m sorry about the news,” Cruise shared in his segment. “I’m sorry you got fired.”

Cruise, who was there to promote his new film Top Gun: Maverick, along with co-star Monica Barbero, added, “But I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you. I’m here for you tonight, and for whatever you need.” He also told James,”I would not have fired you.”

Corden countered with, “Well, I would love it if you could lend me some money,” drawing laughter from the audience.

Cruise responded, “I told you, anything, James, anything.”

On the couch with the Top Gun stars later, Corden explained that it was great to finally have the pair in person, following the COVID-restricted remote interviews.

Barbero admitted that she got unexpectedly star-struck meeting Cruise, which surprised the Mission: Impossible superstar. “I thought she was so cool,” he said.

The actress, who underwent rigorous flying training for the film in an F-18, and also said that Tom, an avid pilot himself in real life, was her best instructor.

Top Gun: Maverick opens in theaters May 27.

Lori Harvey made her quiet yet grand debut at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday night and if no one else appreciated her presence on the carpet of the “biggest night in fashion,” her boyfriend, Michael B. Jordan, certainly did.

Though that isn’t the case at all, seeing as the 25-year-old model and her custom Michael Kors black cut-out dress made a few of the night’s “best dressed” lists, Jordan made sure his “babygirl” knew of his feelings about the special moment.

“Probably my fav pic,” he wrote, sharing a series of red carpet images of Harvey to his Instagram Story on Tuesday. “The composition says so much. Birds eye view of a moment you’ve dreamed about for so long finally manifested & you didn’t disappoint! Way to shine babygirl. I love you.”

While Jordan was absent from the Met Gala festivities — most likely due to his filming & directing duties on the upcoming Creed III movie — he praised his lady for holding it down and doing so, quite elegantly.

Jordan is no stranger to publicly expressing his love for the beauty entrepreneur, whom he was confirmed to be dating in January last year. By way of the numerous affectionate social media posts the two have shared, they’ve easily become many people’s #couplegoals.

Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer John Anderson is getting the spotlight on Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Anderson, and the album contains covers by some heavy hitting country stars.

Luke Combs, Eric Church, Ashley McBryde and Brothers Osborne are just a few of the acts interpreting some of John’s best-loved songs.

Luke takes on the brooding, mid-tempo “Seminole Wind,” which was a top-five hit for Anderson in 1992. Meanwhile, Eric covers “Mississippi Moon,” the Brothers perform “You Can’t Judge a Book (by the Cover)” and Ashley handles what’s arguably become John’s signature song: “Straight Tequila Night.”

According to Billboard, the album is due out on August 5 on Easy Eye Sound. It was co-produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys alongside David Ferguson, who is John’s longtime producer.

Americana and roots acts are also well represented on the track list, with Tyler Childers, the duo of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and more contributing songs. Welch and Rawlings’ version of “I Just Came Home to Count the Memories” is out now, ahead of the album’s full release.

Earlier this year, OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder told ABC Audio that they had a song in a “huge summer film” that was supposed to come out last year, but is now being released this year. It appears that the film Ryan was talking about just might be Top Gun: Maverick.

Details of the movie’s soundtrack have been released and it turns out that in addition to Lady Gaga‘s ballad “Hold My Hand,” it also features “I Ain’t Worried,” a new song by OneRepublic. The song will be released May 13; the soundtrack arrives May 27.

The rest of the album features Kenny Loggins‘ “Danger Zone” — a hit from the original Top Gun soundtrack — as well as star Miles Teller‘s live rendition of the Jerry Lee Lewis classic “Great Balls of Fire.” Teller is featured singing the song because he plays the son of an OG Top Gun character, Anthony Edwards‘ Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, who performed “Great Balls of Fire” in the original movie.

Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer says in a statement, “This album continues the musical legacy that the original Top Gun ignited back in 1986. We are so thrilled to have Lady Gaga and OneRepublic lend their artistry towards putting a modern spin on the already iconic and beloved soundtrack.”

The 1986 Top Gun soundtrack has sold more than nine million copies. In addition to “Danger Zone,” it also featured songs by Cheap Trick, Loverboy, Teena Marie, Miami Sound Machine, and the Oscar-winning Berlin hit “Take My Breath Away.”

Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters May 27.

ABC

BTS fans just have to wait a little over a month before the group releases its long-awaited 10th studio album, a three-disc anthology collection called Proof.

The “Butter” singers took to YouTube to confirm their forthcoming project Wednesday in a livestream, saying the forthcoming effort arrives June 10, which is their ninth anniversary as a band. According to Billboard, the album “embodies the history of BTS…as they begin a new chapter as an artist that has been active for nine years to look back on their endeavors.”

The statement continued, “The anthology album Proof that consists of three CDs includes many different tracks — including three all-new tracks — that reflect the thoughts and ideas of the members on the past present and future of BTS.”

During the livestream, the septet played clips of their hit tracks and named all their past EPs as well as studio and compilation albums. Then, playing a few mysterious notes, the group declared, “We are bulletproof,” a reference to their 2013 track “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” from their debut album, 2 COOL 4 SKOOL

The group also revealed the official artwork of their forthcoming album, which features an all-black background and Proof written in ultra-stylized, metallic-like lettering.

This album will be BTS’ first effort since they announced an “extended period of rest” in December. The group returned to performing in March and first teased their new effort during their Vegas residency at Allegiant Stadium in April.

The BTS last release was BE, which arrived in November 2020 and contained the hits “Dynamite” and “Life Goes On.”  The group released the standalone singles “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” as well as their respective “Savage Love” and “My Universe” collaborations with Jason Derulo and Coldplay in the years since.

Original Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five member The Kidd Creole was sentenced to 16 years in prison Wednesday after he was found guilty of fatally stabbing a man with a steak knife in Midtown Manhattan in 2017.

The 61-year-old hip hop pioneer, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, was convicted of manslaughter, despite arguing that he acted in self-defense when he stabbed a homeless man, John Jolly. Glover was walking past Jolly on East 43rd Street between Lexington and Third Avenues when the two began to exchange words. Prosecutors said Glover attacked the other man because he thought Jolly was hitting on him.

“Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve.”

Glover began his hip hop career as one of the five original members of late-’70s Bronx hip hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, whose pioneering rap music garnered them a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, becoming the first-ever hip hop group to receive the honor.

Kane Brown’s fans have been clamoring for his third album for months now, but the project’s not out just yet — and that’s because the singer’s working hard to make sure it’s a well thought-out, truly representative body of work.

“I’ve definitely taken my time and made sure of the songs I want on there,” Kane tells American Songwriter in the magazine’s latest cover story. “Some I kicked off and put back on again and kicked off again and now they’re back on.”

The singer describes his upcoming project as “very country-rooted.” That’s evident in the new songs he’s put out thus far, including the fiddle-packed chart-topper “One Mississippi” and the slow jam “Leave You Alone.”

Now, Kane’s teasing another new tune, called “Like I Love Country Music,” so country it samples Brooks & Dunn.

But he’s been around long enough to know how it important it is to be intentional with the music he releases.

“At the beginning, I never realized that whatever song I released, [if it’s a hit, then] more than likely I’m going to be singing it through my career,” Kane points out. “So, that’s come into my mind a lot of times on my latest releases.”

He adds, “I think it’s a huge maturing game — definitely.”

Pat Benatar is among the artists who will be welcomed into the Roll & Roll Hall of Fame at the institution’s 2022 Induction Ceremony, which takes place November 5 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The powerhouse singer, who will be inducted with her husband and longtime musical collaborator, Neil Giraldo, issued the following statement with her husband: “We are thrilled and humbled to become part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame family. Thank you to everyone who voted especially the fans and congratulations to all the other inductees.”

Benatar and Giraldo also shared their feelings about their impending induction in a Zoom interview with Rock Hall President and CEO Greg Harris that’s been posted on YouTube.

In the clip, Pat explains, “You know, I’ve been lobbying for probably 25 years to get the real story about how everything began. It wasn’t about [just] me…it was about us together. And so I’m really I’m very excited and pleased that we get to go in together because that is the real story.”

She adds, “It feels good and it doesn’t change everything…not in the way that you would think. It’s just really nice for your children, for the legacy, for the fans…But for you, you’re grateful and you’re like, ‘That’s great.'”

Giraldo, meanwhile, acknowledges that the Rock Hall induction is a great honor, while noting that he and Benatar have never been preoccupied with awards and accolades.

“[T]he greatest thing always…[is] when you see and talk to the fans or the people that loved the music [and hear] how it changed their lives,” Neil maintains. “And that’s the most powerful thing you can ask for. And if this helps to exploit that even more, we’ll keep going and we’re not stopping.”

Benedict Cumberbatch teases new ‘Doctor Strange’ film as “scariest” Marvel movie yet

Benedict Cumberbatch can’t reveal much about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but he did tease it as the “scariest” installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet.

Directed by Sam Raimi, the filmmaker behind the Evil Dead franchise and the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man trilogy, the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange sees the titular hero exploring the multiverse — in some cases unwillingly.

“It’s kind of got a little bit of everything for everybody,” Cumberbatch said Wednesday on Good Morning America, calling it “a bit of a genre-buster” and sharing his hope that it becomes “one of the jewels in the crown of the MCU.”

The two-time Oscar nominee said the sequel is a “really fun ride” that has all of Raimi’s “trademarks,” which he listed as “darker tones,” “jump scares” and “schlock horror,” paired with his experience in the superhero genre.

“I think it’s definitely the scariest of the Marvel films so far, so that was a fun element to bring,” Cumberbatch said.

In addition to bringing back characters like Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, and introducing fans to new characters like Xochitl [SOH-chee] Gomez as America Chavez, there are also numerous rumored cameos — none of which Cumberbatch said he can discuss, save teasing the cast is “phenomenal.”

He added, “I then get to play a couple variants of the character himself to turbocharge his development, which was great fun.”

Cumberbatch says of his magical alter-ego, “I think he’s becoming one of the well-established characters in the pantheon and this sort of phase four that Marvel’s going into with the multiverse he’s the guy cracking it open, so I’m having great fun playing him.”

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
