Carly Pearce is reflecting on the impact of Loretta Lynn

Following Lynn’s passing on October 4 at the age of 90, Carly took to Instagram to honor the legacy of “one of the greatest.” Carly included a musical tribute to the icon, “Dear Miss Loretta” featuring Patty Loveless, on her critically acclaimed album 29: Written in Stone.

Carly debuted “Dear Miss Loretta” during a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in March 2021. After seeing a video of the performance, Loretta left a phone message for Carly saying that she “loved” the song.

“She showed us all how to unapologetically tell the truth. One of the greatest there ever will be,” Carly writes alongside a vintage black-and-white photo of Loretta. “I’ll be singing ‘Dear Miss Loretta’ with a little extra love tonight at the @opry. Now she really is a Honky Tonk Angel.”

Lynn’s family issued a statement this morning saying that she “passed away peacefully” at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.

Billie Eilish is gearing up for her second perfume launch, and she says it’s a little more sultry than her first offering.

Speaking with Elle, the singer admitted she was feeling “a lot of pressure” to come up with a follow-up that complimented her first fragrance. “Your second fragrance is always such a big deal,” she revealed, noting she was more excited than nervous about it.

“I wanted to have Eilish No. 2, whatever it was gonna be, be very inspired by Eilish the original, and sort of like a yin and yang. Not even the opposite, but just, like, a very, very different version of it,” she said, adding, “Eilish is very warm and sweet. It’s heavy, it’s really cozy. And [with] Eilish No. 2, I wanted [it] to feel kind of eerie and darker and mysterious and wet.”

So, what will her second fragrance smell like? Billie revealed, “I really wanted it to feel like rain and water and woods and trees and spices. I knew I wanted it to be wet-inspired, and kind of spicy.”

The singer also wanted this new offering to be more gender neutral. “I wanted to make it so that anyone could wear it,” she said. “I wanted it to be a different sibling to Eilish and just feel like the darker, more sultry sibling.”

Billie teased she has something special coming out to celebrate her second fragrance. “I wanted to create a little thing that goes with Eilish No. 2 that really highlights how it feels,” she said. “And I think we did that really well. So when people hear that, then that will go with Eilish No. 2.”

Eilish No. 2 is due out in November.

(NEW YORK) — Northern California authorities are searching for four family members, including an 8-month-old girl, who were kidnapped for unknown reasons.

Eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri and her parents — 27-year-old mother Jasleen Kaur and 36-year-old father Jasdeep Singh — were taken against their will from a business in Merced County on Monday, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said. The baby’s uncle, 39-year-old uncle Amandeep Singh, was also kidnapped, the sheriff said.

No motive is known, the sheriff said. Merced County is located between San Francisco and Fresno.

Authorities have released images of the unknown kidnapping suspect.

“It’s imperative that we get some information on this. So far, as I know, no contact has been made, no ransom demands, nothing from the suspects,” the sheriff said.

“We’ve got evidence to indicate that the individuals involved in this destroyed evidence in an attempt to cover their tracks,” Warnke said, though the sheriff did not elaborate on the evidence.

“We’ve got detectives out canvassing, we’ve had aircraft out looking for evidence. People are gonna be working 24 hours on this until we get a break in this,” he said. “We’ve got to bring this family home safely.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7445.

Derek Hough proposed to girlfriend Hayley Erbert this summer and now has a wedding to plan. Apparently, the Dancing with the Stars judge already knows who he wants to perform at his nuptials, and that is Michael Bublé.

Hough told Access how excited DWTS will be celebrating the Canadian crooner — whom he called “my man, Bubbles” — in an upcoming episode. “I was just talking with him right now and working on the track for that night [that’s] coming up,” he cryptically teased.

Bublé will not only perform on DWTS on October 24, he’ll also serve as a guest judge. “It’s gonna be a lot of fun but we’re gonna get into trouble though because we’re kind of the same person and we’re just gonna be talking non-stop,” Hough said.

Hough noted how the two have become “really good friends” after he helped direct the music video for “Higher,” which saw Bublé busting out some ballroom-worthy moves. Now, Hough hopes Michael can return the favor by performing at his wedding.

“He said he would perform,” Hough revealed. “He’s doing it… It might be a Zoom call, but it’s gonna be [great].”  The judge added he “expects a full performance from all my friends and family and Michael Bublé.”

DWTS airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

(NEW YORK) — At least 100 people in Florida have died due to Hurricane Ian, according to local officials.

Five additional people were also reported dead due to the storm in North Carolina, according to the governor’s office.

The Category 4 storm slammed into Florida’s southwest coast Wednesday afternoon, causing catastrophic damage, fierce winds and dangerous, record-breaking storm surges.

Deaths from Hurricane Ian reported in Florida

The deaths span multiple counties in Florida, including 55 in Lee County, 24 in Charlotte County, five in Volusia County, four in Collier County, three each in Sarasota and Manatee counties, two in Polk County, and one each in Hardee, Hillsborough, Lake and Hendry counties, ABC News has determined based on information from the Florida Medical Examiners Commission and inquiries with local officials and authorities.

Hurricane Ian’s death toll has been rising amid ongoing search and rescue missions.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said that upward of 700 people were rescued in the devastated county.

“It’s what a heavy heart that I say that number,” Marceno, whose county is home to hard-hit Fort Myers and the barrier island Sanibel, said in video posted to Facebook.

The causes of the deaths in Florida were primarily drownings, as well as two vehicle accidents and a roofing accident, officials said.

It is unclear whether the state’s figure overlaps with ABC News’ analysis. The state confirms deaths by reviewing medical examiner records, which can take some time.

Confirmed deaths from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement occurred in Lake, Sarasota, Manatee, Volusia and Collier counties between Sept. 27 and 30. The victims ranged in age from 22 to 91. One, a 68-year-old woman, drowned after being swept into the ocean by a wave on Sept. 29, the department said.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office was among the first to publicly announce a fatality from Ian. A 72-year-old man in Deltona died after attempting to drain his pool during the storm, the office said Thursday.

The man, who was not publicly identified, “disappeared” after heading outside, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies found him unresponsive in a canal behind the home and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Deaths from Hurricane Ian reported in North Carolina

The storm made landfall again on Friday in South Carolina, which has reported no deaths due to the storm so far, Gov. Henry McMaster said Saturday.

Though in neighboring North Carolina, five storm-related deaths have been reported. In a statement Saturday, Gov. Roy Cooper said three involved vehicle accidents on Friday, with the victims ranging in age from 22 to 25. Additionally, a 65-year-old man died Saturday from carbon monoxide poisoning after running a generator in his closed garage while the power was out. The manner of the fifth death is unclear.

Hurricane damage across the Southeast, as rescue efforts continue

Florida Rep. Kathy Castor, who represents the Tampa Bay area, called the situation a “major catastrophe.”

Federal agency to help pay for Mississippi flood control

“I’m afraid we’re going to be dealing with a larger loss of life than we anticipated,” she said on “ABC News Live” Thursday.

Florida Sen. Rick Scott told Good Morning America Thursday morning there were “thousands of rescue efforts going on right now.”

“We’ve got great sheriff’s departments, police departments, fire departments, state rescue teams. They’re working hard. But there’s a lot of people that need help right now,” he said.

He expressed concern for the state’s many low-lying areas.

“The water kills and I’m just — I’m scared to death of, you know, what’s happened here and I hope everybody stays safe,” he said.

Sheriff Marceno told Good Morning America Thursday they had thousands of 911 calls they were answering.

“We still cannot access many of the people that are in need,” Marceno said. “It’s a real, real rough road ahead.”

Tyler, the Creator’s Flog Gnaw Festival not returning this year

Bad news for fans who looked forward to attending Tyler, the Creator‘s Camp Flog Gnaw this year: the beloved festival will not return this fall.

Tyler’s manager Chris Clancy says the decision is due to the rapper’s busy schedule.

“It’s really not that deep,” Clancy told Billboard. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.”

The last Camp Flog Gnaw was held in November 2019 — after the pandemic halted the annual show and most others like it — and featured performances by YGDaBabySolange21 SavageH.E.R. and other hip-hop and pop artists.

Plans are to bring back the festival in the fall of 2023.

Throughout this year, Tyler toured with his album Call Me If You Get Lost, which earned him a Grammy for Best Rap Album at the 2022 award show.

According to Complex, the rap superstar will lend his voice to the upcoming sixth season of Netflix’s Big Mouth

Country music icon Loretta Lynn has died at age 90

Country music icon Loretta Lynn has died at age 90
Russ Harrington

Loretta Lynn, who overcame meager beginnings to transform her country career into international fame and fortune, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, according to her publicist. She was 90.

By the time Coal Miner’s Daughter hit the big screen in 1980, based on her signature song of the same name, even the most casual country music fan would’ve been intimately familiar with Lynn’s life story, thanks to the 1970 #1 that paid tribute to her beginnings in rural poverty in Butcher Holler, Kentucky.

The love of Loretta’s life, Doolittle “Doo” Lynn, married 13-year-old Loretta Webb in 1948. By the time Loretta was twenty, she had four children, and her singing around the house made her husband believe she could be a star. Doo bought Loretta a guitar, she taught herself to play. Lynn and her ambitious husband embarked on a grassroots promotional campaign, visiting radio disc jockeys all across the country. By 1960, her debut single, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,” reached #14, and she made her Grand Ole Opry debut.

The legendary Patsy Cline took Loretta under her wing, and her protégée was hard-hit by her sudden death in a plane crash in 1963. Patsy left such an impression on Loretta, she named one of her twins after her when they were born in 1964.

As a vocalist, Loretta may have carried on the stylings of her idol Kitty Wells, but when it came to songwriting, the untrained musician struck out on a path all her own. Doo’s wandering eye gave life to classics like “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Fist City,” and “Don’t Come Home a’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),” the latter of which would become her first #1 in 1966.

Loretta never shied away from taboo topics, particularly ones that affected women. She tackled then-controversial issues like divorce and birth control in “Rated X” and “The Pill,” and remained unscathed when they were banned by some radio stations.

Appropriately, the self-styled pioneer was the Country Music Association’s first Female Vocalist of the Year in 1967, an award she’d win again in both 1972 and 1973. The early seventies were an epic time for Loretta as she accomplished a task that’s still difficult today: in 1972, she became the first woman ever to be voted CMA Entertainer of the Year.

From there, her horizons only expanded. She teamed with Conway Twitty to redefine the country duet with pairings like “After the Fire Is Gone,” “Lead Me On,” and “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.” The two would be named CMA Vocal Duo every year from 1972 until 1975.

In 1976, Loretta found time to write her autobiography, Coal Miner’s Daughter. The accompanying 1980 movie of the same name — starring Sissy Spacek as Loretta and Tommy Lee Jones as Doo — became one of the year’s top-ten highest-grossing films. The film’s success earned Spacek the Academy Award for Best Actress, and catapulted Loretta to the status of American music icon.

By the end of the seventies, Loretta was such a widely marketable commodity, Procter & Gamble chose her to be the spokesperson for its line of oil and shortening. “Criso’ll do you proud every time!” was Loretta’s tagline in a series of memorable TV spots.

Throughout her life, Loretta remained fiercely devoted to her family, doing her best to help both her siblings and her children launch their own country careers. Her youngest sister, Brenda Gail Webb, was reborn Crystal Gayle after Loretta re-fashioned her name, taking inspiration from a Krystal fast-food sign.

Loretta also set about writing her sister’s first hit, “I’ve Cried (The Blue Right Out of My Eyes).” Crystal would succeed her sister in taking home the CMA Female Vocalist trophy twice, in 1977 and 1978. Loretta’s twin daughters, Patsy and Peggy, also achieved some success in the nineties, signing a contract with Warner Brothers as The Lynns

Loretta’s love for her family also brought her heartbreak. In 1984, life dealt her a difficult blow when her oldest son, 34-year-old Jack Benny Lynn, drowned on her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Just four years later, Loretta achieved the highest honor in her field: induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In the nineties, as her husband’s health began to fail, Loretta focused on taking care of the man she’d fallen in love with as a teenager. She managed to finish the memorable Honky Tonk Angels album with Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette in 1994, but suffered a serious heartbreak when Doo passed away in 1996.

Though already a country legend, Loretta’s career highlights were still far from over. 2002 brought a second volume of her autobiography, this time titled Still Woman Enough. In 2003, she received the Kennedy Center Honor, ahead of her 2004 Grammy-winning collaboration with rocker Jack WhiteVan Lear Rose

The woman who’d started her music career with only her wit, hard work, and one-of-a-kind sense of humor was never one to give up, even in her 80s. She joked she’d taken care of John Carter Cash backstage at the Opry so his parents, June Carter and Johnny Cash, could perform. In her later years, she headed to Cash Cabin with John Carter Cash as producer, recording in the same space where the Man in Black recorded his final songs.

2016’s Full Circle was nominated for a Grammy, ahead of a holiday volume, White Christmas Blue, that followed the same year. The 2017 release of Loretta’s third album with John Carter, titled Wouldn’t It Be Great, was delayed when she suffered a stroke.

An announcement about Loretta’s memorial is expected in the coming days.
