Our first look at Selena Gomez’s documentary ’My Mind & Me’ is finally here

Selena Gomez, the latest artist to have her very own documentary, has released the first trailer on her Instagram.

“My Mind & Me. We don’t get along sometimes and it gets hard to breathe… But I wouldn’t change my life,” she teased in the caption, adding the doc arrives in November.

The trailer shows Selena over the years — from wiping away tears to celebrating major moments of her life. All clips represent fragments of her complex story from the past six years. The trailer offers no narration and allows the fleeting glimpses into Selena’s life to do the talking. White words then appear on the screen, declaring, “Every breath a breakthrough.”

Among the many major events that happened in Selena’s life since 2016 were her final breakup with on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber, the reception of a life-saving kidney transplant from best friend Francia Raisa, the launch of Rare Beauty and her global effort to normalize conversations on mental health with Wondermind.

An official press release teased a synopsis of the upcoming doc. “After years in the limelight, Selena Gomez achieves unimaginable stardom. But just as she reaches a new peak, an unexpected turn pulls her into darkness,” it begins. “This uniquely raw and intimate documentary spans her six-year journey into a new light.”

Alek Keshishian, the director behind Madonna: Truth or Dare, is helming the documentary, which hits the Apple TV+ streaming service on November 4.

This is Apple’s second jaunt with Interscope Films and Lighthouse Management + Media following its Emmy-nominated documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.

Lil Baby fans riot after festival cancellation

A riot occurred at the Vancouver Breakout Festival on Sunday after it was announced that headliner Lil Baby had canceled his performance.

Social media videos show festivalgoers destroying tents, throwing garbage and breaking equipment.

“Following an announcement that the headliner at BreakOut Festival would not be performing, fans turned their disappointment into anger, doing significant damage to the PNE Amphitheatre and parts of Hastings Park,” festival organizers said in a statement, according to Complex. “At this time our first priority is for the safety and wellbeing of our staff as many were deeply affected by the reaction of guests and behavior that ensued.”

The promoters posted on Instagram that the “Drip Too Hard” rapper arrived at the venue but was “too sick to perform.”

On Monday, Lil Baby apologized for not performing in an Instagram Story.

“I have been going so hard these past few months without any breaks that it finally caught up with me and my body completely shut down. I owe you guys big time and will for sure make up for it soon,” the Grammy winner wrote.

His next concert appearance is scheduled for October 8 in his hometown, Atlanta. Six days later on October 14, Lil Baby will drop his third studio album, It’s Only Me.

The Golden Globes to resume as live televised ceremony in 2023

After weathering negative headlines that tarnished the award show’s already controversial reputation, the Golden Globe Awards will return to NBC on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The Golden Globes found itself embroiled in controversy in early 2021, after accusations of sexism and racism were leveled at the organization. The organization behind the Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), had long maintained its status in Hollywood despite having zero minority journalists in its voting ranks and engaging in other “unethical conduct,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Additionally, its former president was ousted after an email from him surfaced in which he allegedly referred to Black Lives Matter as a “racist hate movement.”

In response, NBC severed its ties with the organization as stars like Scarlett Johansson, Shonda Rhimes and Mark Ruffalo publicly dragged it. Tom Cruise even went so far as to return his three acting trophies from the organization in protest.

The HFPA subsequently vowed it would be making “transformational changes” to boost minority membership and representation, and increase transparency into the organization and its inner workings.

A 2021 event was held, but it wasn’t televised, and no major celebrities showed up.

In the announcement of the show’s return, Frances Berwick, NBCUniversal television and streaming’s chairman noted, “We recognize the HFPA’s commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80^thAnniversary in January 2023.”

For her part, Helen Hoehne, president of the organization said, “The HFPA remains committed to important changes and supporting programs that prioritize diversity, inclusion, and transparency. See you on January 10!”

It remains to be seen, however, if the entertainment industry is as “thrilled” as Hoehne is to have the event return.

Ghost notches first appearance on ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 with TikTok-driven “Mary on a Cross”

For the first time in their career, Ghost has a song on the Billboard Hot 100.

The track “Mary on a Cross,” which was originally released on Ghost’s 2019 album Seven Inches of Satanic Panic, enters the all-genre chart this week at #90.

As for how a three-year-old Ghost song — let alone one that was never included on a proper album — made it onto a ranking nowadays dominated by pop, rap and country, the answer is, of course, TikTok. “Mary on a Cross” has gone viral over the past couple months thanks to a Stranger Things-themed post.

Ghost released their most recent album, Impera, in March. It includes the singles “Hunter’s Moon” and “Call Me Little Sunshine,” both of which hit #1 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, which Ghost has led a total of five times.

You can catch Ghost on their current tour in support of Impera, which concludes this week. Mastodon and Spiritbox are also on the bill.

Santana extends Las Vegas residency through May 2023

Carlos Santana and his famous band have extended their long-running Las Vegas residency well into the spring of 2023.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have announced two new eight-date engagements of their An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live show at the House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The first runs from January 25 through February 5 and the second from May 17 through May 28.

Tickets for all of the new performances go on sale to the general public this Saturday, September 24 at 10 a.m. local time via House of Blues.com/Santana, MandalayBay.com and Ticketmaster.com. Fans can also call 800-745-3000 to purchase tickets.

Santana fan club members and Citi card members can buy presale tickets starting Wednesday, October 21 at 10 a.m. PT; visit CitiPrivatePass.com for more information. House of Blues, Live Nation and Ticketmaster presales will begin Thursday, September 22 at 10 a.m. PT.

Part of the money from the tickets sold for Santana’s Las Vegas shows benefits the Milagro Foundation, the charity Carlos co-founded that helps young people in impoverished communities around the world. Some proceeds will also be donated to the House of Blues’ Music Forward Foundation, which uses music to help young people develop life skills.

Meanwhile, Santana has three shows left on his current run of House of Blues residency concerts — Sept. 21, 23, 24 and 25 — and the band also has another previously announced eight-date stand this year that’s scheduled from November 2 to November 13.

“Are we twins or what?”: Lil Nas X welcomes his doppelgänger at Madame Tussauds

Lil Nas X is seeing double at Madame Tussauds — that’s because he’s the latest celebrity to get the wax figure treatment.

The Grammy winner celebrated the Hollywood debut of his wax clone on Tuesday. The figure celebrates the iconic golden Versace suit he donned to last year’s Met Gala. Designers went all in and even replicated the nail art Lil Nas X wore in 2021.

Other attention to detail additions include the Versace earring he rocked to the event, as well as the choker he wore underneath the suit. “Are we twins or what? I knew this was going to be good but this is like, scary amazing,” he said in a statement.

Lil Nas X shared a side-by-side view to his Instagram, where the jokes wouldn’t stop rolling. “Never thought i would get the pleasure of meeting myself,” he quipped. “The sexual tension was too much to bare [sic].”

Fans were quick to point out they had a hard time figuring out who was who because the figure was so lifelike. “Okay that’s too realistic because I couldn’t figure out which one was real,” one fan expressed in the comment section. Another remarked, “This [is] so freaky.”

Others noted they thought the real Lil Nas X — who was dressed in all black and a long, blonde wig — was the wax figure at first.

Madame Tussauds said Lil Nas X earned his wax figure because of all his contributions to music, fashion and pop culture.

Fans can interact with the lifelike statue now at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood, California.

In the meantime, get ready for new Lil Nas X music. His song “Star Walkin’,” which is the theme for League of Legends‘ 2022 Worlds Tournament, drops Friday at midnight.

LAPD investigating August Alsina’s claim that Tory Lanez assaulted him

After August Alsina claimed that Tory Lanez assaulted him at a concert Saturday night, the Los Angeles Police Department opened an investigation into the accusation.

“We are aware of the allegations that the defendant attacked artist August Alsina and are investigating these claims,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office told Billboard in a statement. “The allegations are serious and will be thoroughly examined.”

A Twitter video shows that Alsina ignored a handshake from Lanez backstage at the Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago. In the final half of the video, as Lanez is seen walking away, a man off-camera commented, “Tory says he knocked August Alsina’s a** right out with one punch.”

The Chicago Police Department tells Billboard they received a report of a “30-ye[a]r-old male” being “punched in the face by a 30-year-old male after exiting a building in the 2300 block of S. Lake Shore Drive,” the location of the Arie Crown Theatre, on Saturday at approximately 11:30 p.m.

As previously reported, Alsina posted an Instagram photo of himself in an elevator with blood streaming from his mouth. In the caption, he claimed that he hadn’t said any “disrespectful words” but was suddenly punched by Lanez. Tory denied the incident, telling DJ Akademiks, “I don’t know if he is doing a promo—I don’t know what that n**** is talking about.”

Lanez is currently out on bail after being charged with shooting Megan Thee Stallion following a July 2020 pool party in the Hollywood Hills. He is charged with felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The Canadian rapper faces up to 22 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Elvis Costello to play 10-show ‘100 Songs and More’ residency in NYC this February

Elvis Costello has announced plans for a unique, 10-night stand dubbed 100 Songs and More that will take place from February 9 to February 23 at New York City’s Gramercy Theatre.

Costello will perform a completely different set each night and will play more than 200 of his songs over the course of the engagement. Elvis has confirmed 10 tunes that he’ll perform at each show; he’ll play at least 10 additional songs during every gig.

The first five concerts will feature Costello performing solo; he will be joined by his Attractions and Imposters keyboardist Steve Nieve at the remaining five shows. In other news, Costello has two special charity shows scheduled on September 30 at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. The event will raise money for Prader-Willi Homes of California, a charity dedicated to the creation of a residential center for people with Prader-Willi syndrome and other developmental disabilities.

In addition, Costello will be performing at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on October 1.

Roseanne Barr returning to stand-up with comedy special

Roseanne Barr has been back on the stand-up stage following her 2018 ouster from the reboot of her titular show, and now, it appears she’s been warming up for a new comedy special.

A Roseanne Comedy Special will drop on the subscription-based Fox News offshoot Fox Nation in 2023, ABC Audio has learned.

It will be Roseanne’s first comedy special in 16 years.

Fox Nation president Jason Klarman said in an announcement, “Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other. Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans,” adding he’s “thrilled” to add the exclusive comedy special to the streaming platform.

The special promises to showcase, “Ms. Barr’s signature comedic take on a variety of topics, with no subject off limits.”

Barr was fired from ABC’s hit Roseanne reboot in 2018 after sending a racially insensitive tweet; the series was rebranded as The Conners, and her character was killed off off-screen.

Cardi B receives handwritten note from Beyoncé; jokes that anyone who comes near it will be “electrocuted”

Cardi B is ecstatic after receiving a personalized early birthday gift from Beyoncé.
Queen Bey sent her a handwritten note across the top of a vinyl copy of the Renaissance album.

“To: Cardi B,” the 28-time Grammy winner wrote. “Hard working, beautiful and talented queen, thank you for always supporting me. Sending so much love to you and yours, Respect, Beyoncé.” The “Bodak Yellow” rapper was thrilled as she displayed her present on Twitter.

“Look what Beyoncé sent me,” Cardi said, holding the vinyl up to the camera for all her followers to see. “It’s so beautiful, so lovely. I’m gonna put it in a glass frame with laser beams on it. Anybody who gets motherf***ing next to it is gonna get electrocuted on motherf****ing sight.”

She ended her video saying, “I just wanna say thank you so much. I feel so special,” then sang a line from one of the songs on Renaissance, “Plastic Off The Sofa.”

Cardi turns 30 years old on October 11, and she may receive more early birthday gifts. She has six nominations for the BET Hip Hop Awards, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year.

Fat Joe will host the show, which is set to air October 4 on BET.
