Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is throwing his support behind James Gunn’s move to DC.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery had picked Gunn and producer Peter Safran to be co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, making them the heads of the new division, which will replace DC Films.

Gunn has famously directed movies for both Marvel and DC. He is the filmmaker behind all three of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films and DC’s The Suicide Squad.

At the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Wednesday, Feige told The Hollywood Reporter that he “speaks to Gunn almost every day” before he highlighted their most recent collaborations.

“We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out, we have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May,” Feige said. “How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.”

Never let it be said that Katy Perry can’t make fun of herself.

A video of Katy onstage in Las Vegas went viral earlier this week because it showed her seemingly being unable to keep one of her eyes open. This led to many online jokes about Katy “glitching,” “downloading,” being a robot or a clone, or being a member of the Illuminati. So now Katy’s using that video to announce she’s extending her Las Vegas residency show, PLAY, into 2023.

“Welcoming all my #flatearthers, #spaceisfakers, #birdsarentrealers, #skyisntbluers to come see my broken doll eye party trick IRL in Vegas next year!” she captioned the video on Instagram. “The show’s set list is a fun [roller-coaster ride] through memory lane going all the way back to 2008, a time when we weren’t all frozen by the paranoia of our own echo chambers!”

She continues, “This show is a nonstop party about finding unconditional love and strangely (for me) not political at all. Heck I pour beer out of my t**s (that’s a party trick too… I don’t actually lactate hops silly goose!). Hope to sing along with you in 2023! And we’ll drink, this one’s on me, cause we’re all #chainedtothealgorithm.”

The text over the video of Katy’s one-eyed moment says, “POV: When you see new 2023 PLAY dates.”

The new dates comprise 14 shows in all, running in three blocks: February 15 to February 25, March 3 and 4, and April 5 to April 15. Tickets for the shows go on sale November 4 at 10 a.m. PT.

PLAY, at Resorts World Theatre, launched December 29, 2021.

Here are the new dates:

February 2023: 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 25

March 2023: 3, 4

April 2023: 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15

As Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered Wednesday night in Los Angeles, MAC Cosmetics debuted a makeup collection inspired by the long-awaited sequel.

MAC posted an Instagram photo of Danai Gurira, who portrays Okoye, wearing the Wakanda Forever makeup products on the red carpet.

The limited-edition items include the “Wakandan Sunset” and “Royal Integrity” lipsticks, and eye shadow with shade names “United Front,” “Claw Marks” and “Protector of Wakanda.”

“One of the things that I have always loved about MAC is the brand’s all-inclusive range of products with shades for all skin tones and undertones, as well as our legacy of celebrating and amplifying Black beauty and culture,” Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois, senior global chief marketing officer at MAC Cosmetics, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“This collaboration is the continuation of such incredible and unique heritage, and we are honored to be the exclusive global beauty partner to the Wakanda Forever movie,” Moudachirou-Rébois added. “It has been a fantastic three-year journey with Marvel Studios to bring this limited-edition collection to life and there is so much to love about it, from the character-inspired looks and shades, collectible packaging, formula benefits, the list goes on.”

The Wakanda Forever makeup line follows the previously reported news that Rihanna has a new song on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. The lead track, called “Lift Me Up,” is a tribute to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. The song comes out this Friday, October 28. It marks Rihanna’s first new music since 2016’s Anti.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By will be available on November 4. The film opens November 11 from Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News.

Sara Bareilles’ ’Girls5Eva’ making its way to Netflix for third season

Girls5Eva is not only getting a new season — it’s also getting a new home.

The Sara Bareilles-fronted show has lived on the Peacock streaming service since it premiered, but now it is heading to Netflix, says The Hollywood Reporter. So, what does this mean for the previous two seasons?

Netflix and Peacock have hashed out a deal that’ll allow the two streamers to simultaneously host Girls5Eva‘s first and second season. The new installment, however, will air exclusively on Netflix next year.

Sara took to Instagram to celebrate the good news, writing, “My girls and I aren’t finished yet!! This show is pure joy to make and I can’t wait to share more stories and expose ourselves… to a new audience!” She also thanked Netflix for “taking a chance on us” because she says the story, as it stands right now, is “too short!”

THR suggests the sitcom struggled to find an audience on Peacock, and that is why it is switching to a new streaming service. Peacock apparently hasn’t found success in comedy shows, with THR noting not one of its original sitcoms — including the Saved by the Bell reboot — have made it past two seasons.

On the other hand, Netflix has helped transform the popularity of several shows that struggled on their original platforms, such as Lifetime’s You and Pop’s Schitt’s Creek. It also acquired one of its most popular series, Lucifer, after it was rejected by broadcasters.

THR reports Netflix initially wanted to buy the Tina Fey-produced Girls5Eva from the start.

The Emmy-nominated show, also starring Busy Philipps, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Paula Pell, focuses on the four members of a ’90s girl group, who reunite 20 years after their fame fizzled to give their pop star dreams another try.

Tim Allen is back as Santa in The Santa Clauses.

In the official trailer for the upcoming limited series, which was shared Wednesday by Disney+, Allen returns as Santa and Scott Calvin, his character in the hit 1994 film who accidentally causes Santa to fall off his roof on Christmas Eve and then finds himself recruited to take his place.

In the trailer, which includes franchise cast members Eric Lloyd as Charlie and Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin, Allen’s Santa Claus tells his elves he is retiring and returns to normal life as Scott Calvin.

“After being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, he’s as jolly as ever,” the official description for The Santa Clauses reads. “But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, a well as being there for his family. Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.”

But at the end of the trailer, Scott Calvin tells his family he’s returning to the North Pole after he learns that elves are disappearing.

In addition to the official trailer, Disney+ also shared the artwork for the series with Allen as Santa and his whole family on a sleigh.

The two-episode premiere of The Santa Clauses is available for streaming on November 16 on Disney+.

When Lainey Wilson walks the red carpet at the 2022 CMA Awards next month, she’ll have a very special plus-one on her arm: her dad, Brian.

“He is out [of the hospital],” Lainey explained during a recent interview with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music’s Today’s Country Radio. “He’s going to walk the red carpet with me.”

Lainey and her father have always been close, but after he experienced a difficult summer of health setbacks and a two-month hospital stay, it’s even more meaningful for the rising star to get to experience the moment with her dad by her side.

The singer has kept fans in the loop about her dad’s health journey and asked for their prayers, especially when she had to cancel a couple of shows earlier this year to be with family.

Now, she says, his recovery is still underway.

“It’s incredible. He was in the hospital for two months,” she details. “He was in a rehab facility for three and a half weeks, and then he just had his 60th birthday. He’s still got a long way to go, but he’s here. He had nine surgeries in a month and a half…He had a stroke on top of all that. But he is a tough son of a gun.”

Lainey’s no slouch herself: The breakout star is the most-nominated artist at the 2022 CMA Awards with six nods. She’s also scheduled to perform with Hardy at the show; they just released a duet called “Wait in the Truck.”

The 2022 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on ABC on November 9.

After the Los Angles Lakers began the new NBA season with three straight losses, they sought encouragement from a superstar who is also going through difficult times: Will Smith.

After screening his new film Emancipation on Monday for several stars, including Rihanna, Tyler Perry and Dave Chappelle, Smith shared a sneak peak of the movie with the team on Wednesday.

The Oscar winner was a guest for the Lakers Genius Talks program, which invites celebrities to meet with the team and offer inspiration to the players. Smith posted an Instagram photo of the team presenting him with a No. 14 Lakers jersey and commented, “Had a GREAT convo about the film for their Genius Series. big thanx to everyone who came thru!” Will plans to have a similar event with his hometown NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Lakers shared three photos from the session and tweeted, “Huge thank you to Will Smith, who joined the team to discuss strength through togetherness, and practicing gratitude in times of great challenge. All themes in his forthcoming masterpiece film, Emancipation.”

Despite Smith’s visit, the Lakers lost their fourth game in a row Wednesday night, 110-99 to the Denver Nuggets.

In Emancipation, Smith stars in the true story of an escaped slave who traveled north from Louisiana and joined the Union Army.

This is the 54-year-old actor’s first film since his infamous incident at the 94th Academy Awards, where he slapped Chris Rock in front of a live audience after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Emancipation debuts in theaters on December 2 and hits Apple TV+ on December 9.

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum has debuted a music video for “Judgement Day,” the first single from his all-star band King of Chaos‘ forthcoming debut album, which is due out late 2023.

The “Judgement Day” video, which premiered at GuitarWorld.com and also can be viewed on the AFM Records label’s YouTube channel, features guest appearances by ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons and Sorum’s wife, fashion designer/choreographer Ace Harper.

Sorum explains about the clip, “Drawing inspiration from the 1971 film Vanishing Point morphed with imagery inspired by Natural Born Killers, Director Brian Cox … and I conceptualized a man running from his demons on a wild ride to find redemption guided by The Reverend Willy G [portrayed by Gibbons], an Angel … on a motorcycle [portrayed by Harper] and his inner child. A Wayward Wanderer searching for the light.”

“Judgement Day” was co-written and performed by Sorum and his ex-Velvet Revolver bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and David Kushner, and features Matt on drums and lead vocals. Sorum also played with Slash and McKagan in GN’R.

The single will be released via digital formats on Friday, October 28 and can be presaved now.

As previously reported, the first Kings of Chaos album, which is expected in either the fall or winter of next year, will feature original songs and “guest collaborations with some of rock’s biggest names — including some of today’s most talented and iconic female artists.”
