New trailer for Netflix doc ‘Harry & Meghan’ released

Prince Harry and Meghan‘s upcoming Netflix docuseries now has a release date and a new trailer, which draws comparisons between the couple’s experiences and the fate of Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

Harry & Meghan will air in two parts, with the first three episodes dropping Dec. 8 and the final three episodes dropping one week later, on Dec. 15, according to Netflix.

The docuseries is described by the streaming giant as sharing “the other side” of Harry and Meghan’s “high-profile love story.”

In the new trailer released Monday, Harry and Meghan appear to open up about tensions within the royal family and their decision to step down from their senior, working royal roles in 2020.

“It’s really hard to look back on it now and go, ‘What on earth happened?'” Harry says in the trailer.

As clips are shown of Harry’s family and Buckingham Palace, the prince is heard saying, “There’s a hierarchy of the family. You know, there’s leaking, but there’s also planting of stories.”

“It’s a dirty game,” Harry adds.

Also in the trailer, clips are shown of Harry’s mother, Diana, who died in a 1997 Paris car crash as their driver attempted to escape the paparazzi.

“I was terrified,” Harry says. “I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”

The one-minute trailer ends with Harry saying, “No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth.”

Last week, Netflix released the first trailer for Harry & Meghan, which showed never-before-seen personal moments from the Sussexes, from falling in love to leaving their royal roles and charting their own future in California.

Idaho murders: Two surviving roommates break silence

(MOSCOW, Idaho) — The two University of Idaho roommates who survived a mysterious quadruple homicide in their off-campus house are speaking out for the first time.

Roommates Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, as well as Kernodle’s boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20, were stabbed to death in the girls’ off-campus house in the early hours of Nov. 13. No suspects have been identified.

“They all lit up any room they walked into and were gifts to this world. I wish every day that I could give them all one last hug and say how much I loved them,” one of the roommates said in a statement read by a pastor at a memorial service over the weekend.

She said Mogen, who was her “big sister” in the Pi Beta Phi sorority, was the older sister she “always wanted.”

“You always gave me the best advice,” she said.

The second surviving roommate said “Maddie and Kaylee were like second moms to me” and “changed the way I look at life.”

Goncalves and Mogen were “the inseparable duo,” she said, describing Mogen as compassionate and happy-go-lucky and Goncalves as strong and driven.

Chapin and Kernodle were the “perfect pair” who had an “unstoppable, loving relationship,” she said.

“They both would look at each other with so much love,” she said.

She added, “I know somewhere Xana and Ethan are together keeping each other company watching us and telling us it’s OK.”

The two surviving roommates — who police said are not suspects — likely slept through the attacks, according to authorities. They were on the ground floor while the four students killed were on the second and third floors. Police have not identified the surviving roommates.

The murders likely took place around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., according to officials. In the morning, the two roommates called friends over because they thought one of the victims on the second floor had passed out and wasn’t waking up, police said.

At 11:58 a.m., a 911 call from one of the roommate’s phones requested help for an unconscious person, police said. The 911 caller’s identity has not been released but police said “multiple people talked with the 911 dispatcher.”

Responding officers found the four victims on the second and third floors, police said.

Police said they do not believe anyone at the house at the time of the 911 call was involved.

Red Hot Chili Peppers announce 2023 global tour

Red Hot Chili Peppers have not one but two albums’ worth of new material, so they’ll have plenty of songs to perform on their just-announced 2023 tour.

The tour, which comes in support of the band’s two number one 2022 albums — Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen — will start March 29 in Vancouver and run through July 23 in Glasgow, Scotland. The Glasgow show is a rescheduled date that was originally going to take place this past summer; existing tickets will be valid, but will be reissued for the new date.

The tour includes stadium dates and stops at music festivals, and the rotating slot of opening acts include The Strokes, Iggy Pop, The Roots, The Mars Volta, St. Vincent, Thundercat, King Princess and City and Colour.

Prior to the tour kicking off, RCHP will play eight shows in Australia and New Zealand in January, with opening act Post Malone.

Tickets go on sale Friday, December 9 at 10 a.m. local time via redhotchilipeppers.com.

Jury selection set to begin in Tory Lanez trial

Jury selection in the trial of Tory Lanez is set to begin on Monday, as the rapper faces charges for allegedly shooting and injuring Megan Thee Stallion on July 12, 2020 in the Hollywood Hills.

Opening statements and testimony are expected to begin on December 12, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told ABC News.

According to prosecutors, Lanez “personally inflicted great bodily injury upon” Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, after the two got into an argument while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills, resulting in an injury in her foot for which she received medical treatment.

Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was charged in October 2020 with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and personal use of a firearm, as well as carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, according to charging documents obtained by ABC News.

“Personal use of a firearm” is not a separate charge but a sentencing enhancement linked to the first count that increases Lanez’ possible sentence.

Lanez has pleaded not guilty on both counts. If he is convicted as charged, he faces up to 22 years and 8 months in prison, according to prosecutors. ABC News has reached out to his attorney Shawn Holley for additional comment.

SZA announces release date for new album ‘S.O.S.’

Fans won’t have to wait long to hear some new music from SZA.

The R&B artist was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and revealed that her sophomore album, S.O.S., will be out this Friday, December 9.

The reveal came at the end of the performance of her song “Shirt,” with “S O S 12/9.” flashing briefly on the backdrop.

In addition to announcing the album release date, SZA performed a new song called “Blind,” presumably from the forthcoming album, giving viewers a glimpse into the new body of work.

S.O.S. is the follow-up to 2017’s Ctrl.

Aerosmith cancels second Las Vegas show, Steven Tyler needs “more time to rest”

Sorry Aerosmith fans, the band has cancelled another Las Vegas show.

The band was set to take the stage as part of their Deuces Are Wild residency at the city’s Dolby Live at Park MGM Monday, but backed out due to their lead singer Steven Tyler needing “more time to rest.”

“Unfortunately tomorrow’s show, Monday December 5th, in Las Vegas has to be cancelled,” a statement posted to Twitter reads. “Steven Tyler said ‘on the advice of my doctor, I’m taking more time to rest… There is nowhere we’d rather be than on stage surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.'”

“We sincerely apologize,” the band concluded.

Refunds will be automatically refunded for those who purchased through Ticketmaster.com, with all other refunds processed at point of purchase.

This is the second show that the “Dream On” artists have cancelled in the last four days. They cancelled their Friday, Dec. 2 show last minute telling fans at the time, “It is with great disappointment that we are forced to cancel tonight’s show in Las Vegas due to Steven feeling unwell and and unable to perform.”

There was no mention on whether Aerosmith will make-up the dates. Their final two performances for the Deuces Are Wild residency are scheduled for Dec. 8 and Dec. 11.

‘Sesame Street’ cast member Bob McGrath has died, family says

Bob McGrath, an original Sesame Street cast member, has died, his family announced Sunday. He was 90 years old.

“Our father Bob McGrath passed away today. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family,” they wrote on Facebook. A cause of death was not given.

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization that produces educational children’s programs, wrote on Twitter that it “mourns the passing of Bob McGrath, a beloved member of the Sesame Street family for over 50 years.”

“A founding cast member, Bob embodied the melodies of Sesame Street like no one else, and his performances brought joy and wonder to generations of children around the world,” the statement continued. “… whether teaching them the ABCs, the people in their neighborhood or the simple joy of feeling music in their hearts.”

McGrath’s entertainment career began in 1962 as a singer on Mitch Miller’s hit TV series Sing Along with Mitch, before stepping into his signature role on Sesame Street as the friendly music teacher Bob Johnson in 1969. McGrath was a mainstay on the popular PBS kids series for over five decades and 47 seasons, and was featured in several of the show’s most iconic sequences, including musical performances of “People in Your Neighborhood.”. His final series appearance came in 2017, though he continued to make public appearances at various events tied to Sesame Street.

Beyond the TV series, McGrath was one of the most prominent human faces of the property across various film, video game and sing-a-long productions.

Poison center reports for child marijuana use rose 245% in last 20 years: Study

(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Between 2000 and 2020, reports to poison centers for child and teen marijuana use increased by 245%, according to a new study from the Oregon Health and Science University.

The researchers analyzed more than 330,000 reports in the National Poison Data System over the last 20 years and found the increase in marijuana rates was the most of any substance, with the largest increase between 2017 and 2020.

Alok Patel, ABC News medical contributor and pediatrician at Stanford Children’s Health, said he’s not surprised. “Marijuana is readily accessible, in multiple forms, whether at a store, from a friend or relative, or online,” he told ABC News.

Alcohol use reports slowly decreased across the same time frame and were surpassed by marijuana in 2014, according to the study.

Edible marijuana preparations accounted for the highest increase in calls to poison centers, while dextromethorphan, used in cough medicine, had the highest number of cases across the 20-year period, accounting for 15% of reports. This was followed by benzodiazepines, such as Valium and Xanax, which made up 7.5% of cases.

Marijuana had the highest number of calls from 2018 to 2020. Older male teens ages 16 to 18 were the most likely to be involved with the reported cases, regardless of the substance, the study found.

The reports to poison centers were calls from health professionals, public health agencies or the public for exposures to any substance where there was a health concern and intentional misuse. The calls may have come in because people used the drug improperly, took it to achieve a high or overdosed. Deaths from any substance were rare (0.1%) and most deadly ingestions were in older adolescents.

Overall, between 2000 and 2020, the substances most commonly responsible for calls to poison centers were over-the-counter medications, household products, or common childhood prescriptions, like Benadryl, Tylenol or anti-depressant medications.

In the study, the authors wrote that they suspected the rapid increase in reports of child marijuana use, particularly between 2017 and 2020, may be related to the recent legalization of marijuana across the nation. However, this will require more research to clarify.

“These are important conversations that need to happen alongside conversations about legalizing marijuana,” Patel said. “While it is true that other substances are far more dangerous when ingested, this doesn’t mean marijuana is harmless… We still have a lot to learn about the long-term effects of marijuana use in the developing adolescent brain.”

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ spends fourth week atop the box office with .6 million

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever once again ruled the box office, delivering an estimated $17.6 million in North America in its fourth week of release. The Black Panther sequel, which is expected to hit $400 million dollars domestically this week, stands at upwards of $730 million worldwide.

The weekend’s only new major release, the R-rated Christmas action movie Violent Night — starring David Harbour as a not-so-saintly Saint Nick, had a solid debut, opening in second place with an estimated $13.3 million.

Taking third place was the Disney animated adventure Strange World, grabbing an estimated $4.9 million, for a two-week total of $25.5 million in North America. Globally, the film has earned $42.3 million.

The Menu pulled up in fourth place with an estimated $3.6 million, for a three-week total of $24.7 domestically and $42.2 million worldwide.

The Korean War film Devotion rounded out the top five, earning an estimated $2.8 million in its fifth weekend. Its North American box office tally currently stands at just $13.8 million.
