Shania Twain received the Music Icon Award onstage at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday night, a recognition of her historic, four-decade-long career as the best-selling female country-pop artist of all time.
As she accepted her trophy, Shania reflected on her gratitude, her family and her fans.
“I always miss my mother at these moments [in] my life,” the singer said, according to People. “She would have loved watching her little girl living this moment right now.”
Shania’s mother, Sharon Morrison, died in a car accident along with the singer’s stepfather, Jerry Twain, in 1987. In the decades since, Shania’s career has risen to astronomic, genre-crossing heights. The singer also acknowledged those who have been with her throughout those big years in her career.
“But my fans, my friends, my team — you are the ones who really fill that space … not my mother’s space. But you’re here with me, you’re celebrating, we’re celebrating together,” she continued. “And you’ve made me feel loved and special my whole working life. I’ll always be grateful for that.”
In addition to be feted with the Music Icon Award, Shania performed a medley of hits at the People’s Choice Awards, including classics like “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” as well as her current single, “Waking Up Dreaming.”
Shania has a new album due out next year, called Queen of Me. She will tour extensively throughout 2023 to support the release.
They say that music transcends language, and as the first band to perform on all seven continents, Metallica‘s worldwide success certainly backs that up. Just in case anything is still lost in translation, though, the metal legends are here to help.
Metallica has released several new lyric videos for “Lux Æterna,” the lead single off the band’s upcoming 72 Seasons album, translating the songs in different languages, including Japanese, German, Spanish and Portuguese. A new English lyric video is also out.

72 Seasons, the follow-up to 2016’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct, arrives April 14. Metallica will support the record on a world tour in 2023 and 2024, featuring completely different set lists across multiple shows in each city. Openers include the reformed Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, Greta Van Fleet, Mammoth WVH, Ice Nine Kills, Volbeat and Architects.
Zoe Saldaña is the cover star for the latest issue of InStyle. In it, she reflects on the box office success of Avatar and her love for action films, among other things.
Avatar premiered in 2009 and has since gone on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. Zoe, who plays Neytiriin the franchise, admits she didn’t imagine the film would be a big success.
“I had no idea Avatar was going to have the impact that it did on such a global scale,” she says. “Those things are unimaginable.”
“I had so much hope that it was going to be well received, because it just felt so special to me. This conversation around the environment has become a global social dilemma,” she continues. “And what I admire the most is that the younger generations are the ones that are guiding this narrative.”
Zoe also appears in the Guardian of the Galaxy films and other Marvel movies as the green-skinned alien warrior woman Gamora, and has dabbled in different kinds of movies. Yet, she has a special love for action films.
“I love action movies. When I was a kid, that’s what I was watching, not princess things,” she explains. “My idol was Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor.”
Saldaña’s Avatar co-star Sigourney Weaver played Ripley in the Aliens films — the second of which was written and directed by Avatar’s James Cameron. Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor in Cameron’s The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
When it comes to the films she chooses to work on, Zoe says, “I join projects because I believe in the people behind them. When they’re magical and thoughtful, thought-provoking and collaborative, that’s what changes my life for the better.”
“It gives me experiences that raise me, that help me grow, that make me feel good about people,” she concludes.
Peter Frampton is the latest rock legend to sell his catalog — it’s been acquired by BMG.
The deal includes the rights to Frampton’s publishing interests, as well as the money he makes from recordings, writing songs or performing as a sideman or collaborator for artists like David Bowie, George Harrison, Donovan, Ringo Starr and Steve Miller. It spans his entire musical career, from back when he was in the band The Herd in the late ’60s, to his career with Humble Pie in the ’70s, to his record-breaking solo career.
The deal includes Frampton’s signature songs, including “Show Me The Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do,” “I’m In You” and “I Can’t Stand It No More.”
In a statement, Frampton says he trusts BMG will “care for my legacy and that my songs are in good hands.”
In 2019, Frampton announced that he’d been diagnosed with inclusion body myositis, a degenerative muscular disease that he expects will eventually rob him of his ability to play guitar.
His most recent album, 2021’s Frampton Forgets The Words, is a collection of instrumental covers of some of his favorite songs, including tunes by Sly and the Family Stone, Radiohead, Marvin Gaye, Roxy Music, Stevie Wonder, Harrison and Bowie.

Snow will continue in the Rockies on Wednesday, with some areas getting 6 inches to 12 inches.
There could be heavy rain and flash flooding in the Plains on Wednesday into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
In the mid-South and the East Coast, periods of rain will continue Wednesday as the storms continue.
The heaviest rain over the next 48 hours will be from Oklahoma to Tennessee, where some areas could see 2 inches to 4 inches. Some localized flash flooding is possible.
For the Midwest, some of that rain will turn to snow, where several inches are possible. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the area.
A new storm system moves into the West Coast Wednesday. Another storm over the weekend will dump an additional 6 feet of snow in California.
Roddy Ricch is facing a lawsuit that claims his smash hit “The Box” steals elements from a 1975 song.
Rolling Stone reports Greg Perry, a California-based songwriter, filed an 18-page complaint Tuesday in which he alleged that “The Box” was released with “a complete duplication” of his song “Come on Down.”
“Expert musicology analysis confirms that the ascending minor scale played by violin at the opening of ‘Come On Down’ is a distinctive musical element which recurs a total of six times throughout the song,” reads the lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone.
It continues, “Comparative analysis of the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure, metrical placement, and narrative context by a musicology expert demonstrates clearly and convincingly that ‘The Box’ is an unauthorized duplication and infringement of certain elements of ‘Come On Down.’”
“Come on Down” also inspired hits from other hip-hop artists: “Wordplay” by Jeezy and Yo Gotti‘s “I Remember.”
“The use of the distinctive compositional elements of ‘Come On Down’ have remained so popular in both the R&B and rap community that access to the composition is firmly established,” Perry claims.
“The Box,” a single off Roddy’s debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, dropped in 2019. It was nominated for three Grammys and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lana Del Rey has announced a new album with a very Lana Del Rey title.
The ninth studio effort from the “Video Games” artist is called Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd and will arrive March 10.

(MOORE COUNTY, N.C.) — Equipment damaged in an attack that caused a massive electrical blackout in a North Carolina county has been completely repaired or replaced and authorities said Wednesday that power is expected to be restored to tens of thousands of utility customers by midnight.
The announcement from Duke Energy, the local utility company, came as many residents in Moore County awoke for the fourth day Wednesday without electricity and as law enforcement continued to the search for the gun-wielding perpetrator or perpetrators who sabotaged two key power distribution substations Saturday night.
“Once we have completed all necessary testing, the gradual restoration of service to those Moore County communities still without power will begin,” Duke Energy said in a statement. “To avoid overwhelming the electrical system we will bring power back on gradually, with the goal of having the majority of customers restored before midnight tonight.”
While no new significant details on the investigation were released Wednesday, Moore County Chief Sheriff Deputy Richard Maness told ABC News that investigators are are closely analyzing evidence discovered at the two crime scenes and following up on tips from the public. No arrests have been announced and authorities have not commented on a possible motive.
“I can confirm that multiple shell casings were recovered,” said Maness, who declined to say what type of firearm was used in the attack or the caliber of the shell casings collected.
According to Poweroutage.us, a website that tracks outages across the country, 9,808 Duke Energy customers were still without electricity as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, down from about 35,000 Tuesday night. Schools remained canceled on Wednesday and a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew has been imposed.
“We worry about the health and safety of people, particularly those in adult care homes and those who live by themselves, particularly our senior citizens and those who are vulnerable,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said in an interview Wednesday on ABC’s GMA3.
Cooper reiterated that the criminal or criminals knew what they were doing when the power stations were riddled with bullets.
“This was a malicious attack on an entire community, and it plunged tens of thousands of people into darkness. They knew what to do to disable this substation. … But we know that people are very frustrated here, and that’s very understandable,” Cooper said.
The crisis in Moore County has prompted local law enforcement to call in the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies to help in the probe of what has been deemed a criminal act. The White House is also closely monitoring the situation, officials said.
Asked at a news conference on Monday whether the attacks are being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism, Cooper said, “I think investigators are leaving no stone unturned as to what this is as they are looking at every motivation that could possibly occur.”
Moore County law enforcement said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that one person died inside a residence without power, but it remained unclear if the death is related to the electrical outage.
Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields told ABC News earlier that murder charges could be filed against those responsible for the attack if anyone dies as a result of the power outage.
“What was done was an intentional act. It was not a random act,” Fields said.
Carthage business owner Rachel Haviley used her portable generator to serve up coffee and food to neighbors in need.
“My kids are home, they’re not in school. My husband was supposed to go to D.C., now he’s in daddy day care,” Haviley told WSOC. “I have a friend that was supposed to be at the hospital for class, now she’s not there. There are elderly people who rely on things that help keep them alive, so people’s lives and families have been impacted by this.”
The attacks occurred just after 7 p.m. Saturday, officials said.
The attacks came amid protests over a Downtown Divas drag show in the Moore County city of Southern Pines. The drag show had been scheduled for Saturday night and was disrupted due to the blackout.
Fields said no evidence has yet been uncovered linking the power outage to the drag show.
Dua Lipa is the latest celebrity to get the wax figure treatment from Madame Tussauds in New York City.
The figure was unveiled Wednesday, and Dua is super excited that it honors her latest era. “What I’m really excited about is to have a wax figure commemorate my album Future Nostalgia. I haven’t got one for this time, and it’s just so cool to be asked to come back and to do that,” she raved.
Dua’s wax statue is “wearing her famous custom white sequined outfit by The Attico,” per a press release, as well as the “Jimmy Choo MICA 100mm square-toe ankle-boot” to complete the Future Nostalgia look that she rocked during her livestream at Studio 2054 in November 2020.
Dua was touched that Madame Tussauds honored this particular look. “It was really exciting to create something like that because of what was going on in the world and the need for human connection and also to bring something out for the fans and everyone at home — just to create a fun experience,” she expressed.
Dua said she found it interesting to watch the process of how these statues are made and was impressed by “how precise every little thing is.”
The statement explains Dua’s likeness was captured during a “sitting,” where “more than 150 measurements were taken to meticulously capture the singer’s facial features.” The announcement noted that every hair on the figure’s head was “individually inserted by hand, taking about five weeks to complete.” It takes about six months in all to complete one of these wax clones.
Dua’s new wax figure can be found at Madame Tussauds New York in Times Square.
When Blake Shelton married Gwen Stefani in the summer of 2021, he married into a whole family: Gwen has three sons whom she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
And although the kids — 16-year-old Kingston, 14-year-old Zuma and eight-year-old Apollo — already have a dad, Blake is a big figure in their lives, and the country star knows just how important it is to foster those relationships.
“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids,” he tells People in a new cover story. “This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.”
During this stage of his life, Blake continues, family time comes before anything else.
“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously,” the singer emphasizes. “…[When they ask], ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”
To that end, he says, it’s time to trade in some of his work commitments “and let more family and personal life in.”
Blake announced this fall that he’s leaving The Voice, a show where he’s been a coach since the very first season. The show is currently in his 22nd season, and the next season — season 23, airing in the spring of 2023 — will be his last.
