Sam Smith’s song with Kim Petras, “Unholy,” made queer history when it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart last month, making them the first non-binary and transgender artists, respectively, to top the chart. But despite the fame and success, Sam says being a queer person hasn’t gotten easier.

In a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Sam admits, “It’s still hard to be queer. There’s still backlash. I still get things said to me on the street, even now.”

They add, “The weirdest thing is you can be famous, you can be a pop star and you still get it. Because I thought I’d become a pop star and I’d never get a bad word said to me ever again. I’d never have homophobia. I’d never experience it if I became a star. And then it happens and it’s still there.”

Sam says it takes bravery to continue to live authentically and they’ve since embraced their role of being a voice for the LGBTQ+ community.

“There’s kids out there that need this,” Sam says. “They need us to talk about it.”

Sam’s fourth studio album, Gloria, is due out January 23.

Rebel Wilson is a mom.

The Pitch Perfect star shared a photo of her newborn daughter, Royce Lillian, on Instagram Monday, writing that the baby is a “beautiful miracle.”

“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate,” Wilson wrote in the post’s caption, alongside a snap of the newborn. “I can’t even describe the love I have for her.”

“I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making,” she added. “But particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!”

Last year, Wilson opened up about her struggle with fertility, telling fans on Instagram that she feels for women who are also struggling with having children.

“The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn’t make sense,” she said at the time. “But I hope there’s light about to shine through all the dark clouds.”

In her Instagram post on Monday, the actress is embracing motherhood and said she is “ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable.”

“I am learning quickly,” she added. “Much respect to all the Mums out there! Proud to be in your club.”

The metaverse version of Ozzfest now has a lineup.

As previously reported, a virtual edition of Ozzy Osbourne‘s namesake festival will be held during the Metaverse Music Festival, put on by “virtual social world” Decentraland.

In addition to the Prince of Darkness, the bill includes Motörhead, Megadeth, Black Label Society and Skid Row.

Motörhead, of course, hasn’t performed since the 2015 death of frontman Lemmy. The exact nature of Motörhead’s performance hasn’t been revealed — perhaps it’ll be a restaging of archival footage — but the description for the Metaverse Music Festival notes that it will “be unconstrained by the boundaries of reality.”

The Metaverse Music Festival takes place November 10-13. For more info, visit TheMetaverseFestival.io.

On Monday, Lucasfilm officially announced that the forthcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte just got underway in the United Kingdom and shared who will be joining Amandla Stenberg in the show bound for Disney+.

Lucasfilm also released a behind-the-scenes snap of Stenberg on set with just-revealed co-star Lee Jung-jae, Emmy winner from Squid Game, and writer and executive producer Leslye Headland.

Alongside the The Hate U Give star and Lee will be The Matrix series veteran Carrie-Ann Moss; Logan and His Dark MaterialsDafne Keen; Queen & Slim‘s Jodie Turner-Smith; Charlie Barnett from Russian Doll; 1917‘s Dean-Charles Chapman; and Inventing Anna‘s Rebecca Henderson.

According to Lucasfilm, “The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era” — the latter referring to about 200 years before the start of the Skywalker saga.

The studio continues, “A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”

Headland is both writing and executive producing the show, in addition to directing the series pilot.

The Acolyte‘s release date is not yet known.

The Beatles‘ album Revolver, which first topped the Billboard 200 album chart in 1966, is back in the top five, thanks to a deluxe special edition reissue that came out October 28.

The special edition, which is available in a variety of formats, features demos, alternate versions, outtakes and different mixes of classics like “Yellow Submarine,” “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “Eleanor Rigby,” as well as different takes of the non-album tracks “Paperback Writer” and “Rain.” It sold 54,000 units, enough to reenter the chart at #4.

Revolver is the latest in an ongoing series of Beatles studio albums that are being reissued in expanded versions. It follows the releases of expanded reissues of Let It Be last year, Abbey Road in 2019, The Beatles aka The White Album in 2018 and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 2017.

As with Revolver, all the albums originally topped the Billboard chart and then returned to the top 10 after the special versions were released.

Netflix gearing up for two ‘Gears of War’ shows

Netflix

Netflix announced Monday that it’s turning the bestselling video game series Gears of War into not one but two original shows.

The streaming service will begin production on both a live-action film set in the world of the sci-fi shooter and an adult animated series set in the same universe.

Calling the Gears of War series “one of gaming’s richest and most acclaimed sagas,” the streaming service sets the scene for the uninitiated. “A society divided and on the brink of collapse faces total extinction by the Locust, a monstrous threat from below. Delta Squad, a ragtag fireteam led by disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix, is now charged with leading humanity’s last stand.”

The series has won critical acclaim and a legion of fans; to date, more than 40 million copies have been sold.

Incidentally, there’s no word on whether Dave Bautista, a superfan who once called Fenix “a dream role” — and whose face and voice could be swapped for the original star, John DiMaggio, in Gears 5 thanks to fan demand — is involved.

Roddy Ricch was allegedly harassed by border patrol authorities in Canada over the weekend, causing him to miss his opening set at the Vancouver stop of Post Malone‘s Twelve Carat tour. Taking to his Instagram Story Sunday night, he explained his absence while noting it may be some time before his Canadian fans see him perform in their country again.

“The Federal Border Patrol did not allow me into Vancouver, BC,” the Compton-born rapper wrote. “I apologize to my fans. I don’t believe I’ll be revisiting Canada anytime soon because they’ve harassed me every time I’ve come.

According to Complex, Roddy previously experienced problems when traveling to Canada in 2020; a call to Drake was enough to solve the problem at the time. This time around, Roddy claims he’s simply “tired of the harassment.”

Despite the bad experience, Roddy’s run on the Twelve Carat tour continues. He has five more shows in his native state of California before he calls it a wrap.
