David Bowie’s son, director Duncan Jones, isn’t at all happy that Donald Trump continues to use his dad’s music. The latest instance was during Trump’s recent event at Mar-A-Lago announcing his 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump used Bowie’s “Heroes” as his exit music; after folks on social media made him aware of it, Jones responded on Twitter with, “We’ve been though [sic] this before. He used the same track 6 years ago. Ive been told there is little we can do about it.”

He later added, “Pretty sure he’s doing that just to wind me up.”

Jones’ response comes not long after Isaac Hayes and Tom Petty‘s estates called out Trump for using the artists’ music without permission.

Yann Demange, who helped craft the creepy aesthetic of HBO’s heralded-but-short-lived Lovecraft Country, is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaker has taken the reins of Blade, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As reported, the Disney-owned studio hit the pause button on the anticipated return of Marvel’s half-vampire vampire hunter when original director Bassam Tariq left over creative differences shortly before the movie’s November start date.

Instead, the studio has tapped Emmy-nominated When They See Us writer Michael Starrbury to start from scratch on the Blade screenplay, the trade reports, with Starrbury being personally chosen by the movie’s two-time Oscar-winning star Mahershala Ali.

While the project is getting a retooling, its start date is reportedly 2023, with the movie’s release date slated for September 6, 2024.

The original Blade films starred Wesley Snipes as the fan favorite bloodsucker hunter; the 1998 original spawned two sequels and set the stage for superhero supremacy at the box office.

Computer glitch caused Donald Trump’s name to pop up during Elton John concert

A computer glitch during Elton John’s Sunday night broadcast of his final U.S. Farewell Yellow Brick Road show at Dodger’s Stadium left some viewers watching on Disney+ a bit shocked. That’s because former President Donald Trump’s name showed up in the closed captions several times.

Posts on social media pointed out the error, which happened more than once, including while Elton was singing “Levon” and “Candle in the Wind.” And while TMZ speculated it was the result of a hack, sources say it was a simple error.

Disney+ hasn’t commented on the glitch, but sources tell Variety it happened because an outside vendor was used for the live closed captioning. That vendor also transcribes news events, so Trump’s name likely had a keyboard shortcut, which somehow was inserted during the Elton telecast. The mistake was eventually fixed for the on-demand replay of the concert.

(Note Language) Diane Warren has received 13 Academy Awards nominations for Best Original Song throughout her career — and has lost all 13 times. But she finally has one of those little gold statues to call her own. The prolific songwriter was presented with an honorary Oscar at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 13th Governors Awards this weekend.

“I’ve waited 34 years to say this: I’d like to thank the Academy,” Warren said in her acceptance speech. She joked, “Mom, I finally found a man,” adding, “I know you wanted him to be a nice Jewish boy, but it’s really hard to tell.”

And while many have made a big deal about her losing streak, Warren doesn’t see it that way. In fact, she sees her nominations as wins, noting, “13 times my songs have been chosen … That’s a pretty big f****** win.”

And just how much does Diane love her new Oscar? No longer a bridesmaid when it comes to nabbing the trophy, she posed with it wearing a wedding dress. She shared video of the photo shoot on Instagram, which she captioned #FinallyTheBride. She also took it to bed for another picture.

We’re guessing that not everyone would want to spend New Year’s Eve with their 76-year-old godmother, but when your godmother’s one of the coolest and most beloved humans on the planet, you’d make an exception, right?

Miley Cyrus is returning to host another edition of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, the NBC special she debuted last year. This time around, her co-host will be none other than the iconic Dolly Parton, who is, for real, Miley’s godmother. Other guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

As with last year’s special, the event will be executive produced by Saturday Night Live head honcho Lorne Michaels and will air live from Miami on December 31 from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET. It’ll also stream live on Peacock.

Last year’s edition of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party featured co-host Pete Davidson and performances by 24KGoldn, Anitta, Billie Joe Armstrong, Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile and Saweetie. Miley also performed, which led to the night’s big viral moment: Just after the ball dropped, while she was singing “Party in the U.S.A.,” her top came loose and exposed her breast.

Miley simply covered herself with her hand, left the stage — still singing — and came back wearing a blazer that hid the wardrobe malfunction.

In other Miley news, she’s apparently working on new music with producer Mike WiLL Made It. Mike, who executive produced Miley’s album Bangerz, shared on his Instagram Story a post by the hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, which shows Mike and Miley in the studio together. Mike added “2023” to the photos, seemingly indicating that their project is coming next year.

Ryan Reynolds, AMC and Jimmy Kimmel helped resurrect undead ‘The Walking Dead’ characters for new ads

Ryan Reynolds is almost as famous for his ads as he is for his acting, and that was on display Sunday night during AMC’s series finale of The Walking Dead.

Reynolds’ Maximum Effort company teamed up with AMC’s Content Room and Jimmy Kimmel‘s Kimmelot for a series of spots that used already dead characters from the show to hawk for DoorDash, Ring doorbells and accounting company Deloitte.

Laurie Holden, whose Andrea was killed off in the third season of the show, was alive and well again — well, not really alive, but undead — in the spot for Deloitte, in which she appeared in full zombie makeup and spoke of the company’s pursuit of “the juiciest brains” to help its customers.

Similarly, the decapitated head of Joe Ando-Hirsh‘s Rodney uses a random finger in his teeth to call for DoorDash and to try to share a bite with the delivery man. The driver doesn’t fall for it, taking his “delivery proof” picture from a safe distance.

Andrew West‘s undead Gareth uses his Ring to keep his distance from a real menace: human solicitors asking for donations.

Dallas Roberts‘ Milton was reanimated for a DED Talk, in which he boasts of Autodesk software’s ability to help him create — in this case a groan-powered doorknob to help his fellow walkers usually stymied by closed doors.

For his part, Reynolds told Deadline, “Ads should be fun. The Walking Dead has generated more cultural conversation over the last decade than any other property and we wanted to honor that by bringing a few characters back from the dead in some fun contextual ads. (Commercials) can be a part of the cultural conversation as they once so frequently were. They just need a little more love, attention and mischief.”

Donald Trump is ready to get on with his 2024 presidential campaign, but he may not be the only one. It appears Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is also preparing to run for president.

Celebrity gossip site X17 shared a video in which Ye introduces the cameraman to alt-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, who he confirms will be “working on the campaign.” He then shows off his political merch, which was “cut” from clothing used in his former lines with Balenciaga, Gap and Adidas.

“Everything we do is gonna cost $20,” he says of the attire. “We need to make sure that everyone can receive the same level of cuts, the same level of food, the same level of water, the same level of education … we’re getting past the past. We’re focused on the future.”

“This is the update. We are the update. That’s all we need to do,” he continued. “As a species, we need to update together. Everything’s been so divisive. Think about when they say ‘diversity’ — people look at that like it’s a good thing, but we’re the United States of America. We’re a universe. We’re a university. We’re a republic.”

In other Kanye news, Julia Fox came clean about her decision to date Ye. Responding to a fan who wished she’d never dated the “famously violent misogynist and antisemite,” she said, “I thought I could help him.”

Though Kanye made headlines for throwing jabs at Kim Kardashian‘s ex Pete Davidson, Fox claimed “he wasn’t on Twitter” or “any forms of social media” during the month they dated. She said she thought, “Oh my god, maybe I can get him off Kim’s case. Maybe I can distract him,” but Ye eventually returned to Twitter; she realized she was “delusional” for having that idea.

A bookshop in Portugal, which claims to be “the world’s most beautiful bookshop,” placed the winning bid on a set of love letters written by Bob Dylan when he was in high school.

According to the New York Post, Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal, shelled out almost $670,000 for the letters, which the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer wrote to high school girlfriend Barbara Ann Hewitt between 1957 and 1959. The collection, which was being auctioned off at RR Auction, features 42 handwritten letters and about 150 pages of writings, including bits of poetry, an invitation to a Buddy Holly concert and more. They were found by Hewitt’s daughter following her 2020 death.

The bookshop says they plan to keep the collection complete for any Dylan fans or scholars to study.

But the letters weren’t the only Dylan items up for grabs at the auction. There was also a set of poems he wrote at the University of Minnesota, which went for about $250,000, and an early signed photograph of the artist, which sold for over $24,000.

(HINGHAM, Mass.) — A man died and 16 people were injured after an SUV crashed into an Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts, Monday morning, the Plymouth County District Attorney said.

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner barreled into the store at about 10:45 a.m., smashing through the glass, which struck multiple people, District Attorney Tim Cruz said at a news conference.

People both inside and outside of the store were injured, and a few people were pinned up against the wall of the store, according to Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy. Bystanders helped provide first aid, Murphy said.

Officials at South Shore Hospital said it received patients with head trauma, “mangled limbs” and life-threatening injuries.

The driver is “with police,” officials said, but they did not elaborate.

Cruz said investigators are looking into “every avenue” of the crash, including whether there is a criminal element.

Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, was identified as the man killed. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the prosecutor’s office.

“This morning was an unthinkable morning and people are trying to get through it and process what happened,” Cruz said.

Hingham is about 20 miles southwest of Boston.
