Artists pay tribute to the late Jeff Beck

Guitarist Jeff Beck‘s death Tuesday from bacterial meningitis at the age of 78 was certainly a shock. Upon hearing the news, several artists, including many of his fellow rockers, took to social media to pay tribute to the rock legend.

Beck contributed to two songs on Ozzy Osbourne’s Grammy-nominated album Patient Number 9, and Ozzy shared a tribute on Instagram Wednesday: “I can’t express how saddened I am to hear of @JeffBeckOfficial’s passing. What a terrible loss for his family, friends and his many fans,” adding, “It was such an honor to have known Jeff and an incredible honor to have had him play on my most recent album, Patient Number 9. I’ll remember him fondly. Long live #JeffBeck.”

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood shared, “Now Jeff has gone, I feel like one of my band of brothers has left this world, and I’m going to dearly miss him. I’m sending much sympathy to Sandra, his family, and all who loved him. I want to thank him for all our early days together in Jeff Beck Group, conquering America.” Mick Jagger added, “With the death of Jeff Beck we have lost a wonderful man and one of the greatest guitar players in the world. We will all miss him so much.”

And fellow guitar great Jimmy Page, who was Beck’s former Yardbirds bandmate, offered, “His technique unique. His imaginations apparently limitless. Jeff I will miss you along with your millions of fans. Jeff Beck Rest in Peace.”

Second batch of classified Biden documents discovered during extensive search

(WASHINGTON) — After classified materials were found at an old office of President Joe Biden’s, aides discovered a second batch of classified documents at a location that Biden was known to use after leaving office as vice president, ABC News has learned.

Sources familiar with the matter said the second set of documents contained classified information. They came to light as Biden aides conducted an extensive search of locations where he worked after leaving the Obama administration.

Biden aides were responding to the November discovery of classified documents at the Washington, D.C., office of the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center, which Biden used after his time as vice president.

The original November discovery was immediately reported to the National Archives and Records Administration, according to White House officials, sparking a Department of Justice inquiry that became public this week.

It is unclear whether the search by Biden aides to check for other potentially classified government documents has been completed yet.

The White House did not comment on the discovery of a second set of documents.

Sources also told ABC News that the original batch of about 10 documents found in November contains classified vice-presidential briefing papers about foreign countries, some of which were marked top secret.

The revelation of a second set of documents, first reported by NBC News, comes the same day that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to provide additional details about why classified documents were apparently improperly stored at Biden’s old office at the Penn Biden Center.

The preliminary DOJ inquiry into the possible mishandling of classified documents is focusing on how the documents got there and whether the president played a role.

The preliminary investigation, involving the FBI and the DOJ, has been ongoing for several weeks and is nearing completion. Attorney General Merrick Garland has been briefed and a preliminary finding is expected to be in his hands in the coming weeks, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Garland will face a decision about whether to launch a full-scale criminal investigation and whether to appoint a special counsel.

Biden told reporters on Tuesday in Mexico, while meeting with North American leaders, that he didn’t know what was in the records at the Penn Biden Center office and was “surprised to learn” they were there.

Taylor Swift made a cameo during Tuesday’s Golden Globes. Her song “Mastermind” was playing before director Ryan Murphy accepted the Carol Burnett Award. This has fans buzzing that the Glee creator and Taylor potentially have something planned. Her song “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing was up for Best Original Song, but she lost to RRR’s “Naatu Naatu.”

Get ready to see more Harry Styles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Harry was cast as Eros, the half-brother of mad titan Thanos, and made his debut in the 2021 Eternals movie. Nate Moore, a Marvel exec, told Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, “There are more stories to be told with that character.” Added Moore, “I think there’s no limit to how popular that character’s gonna be once we get to bring [Harry] back.” Marvel is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

Sam Smith released “Gimme,” which features reggae star Koffee and singer Jessie Reyez. Sam said of the song, “I’m a sexual person, I like sex. It’s something I’m teaching myself to not be ashamed of.” The official music video is due out at a later date. “Gimme” is the latest song off their upcoming Gloria album, which arrives January 27.

Kevin Jonas confirmed Claim to Fame has been renewed for a second season on ABC. Kevin hosts the show with his little brother Frankie Jonas. The show pits people with famous relatives against each other to guess who they’re related to. The last person standing wins the $100,000 jackpot.

Oprah Winfrey, Kerry Washington enlist in Tyler Perry’s WWII-set ‘Six Triple Eight’ for Netflix

The Netflix movie about an all-Black, all-female World War II battalion sent overseas has just snagged two five-star actresses.

Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey have enlisted in Tyler Perry‘s Six Triple Eight, along with Law & Order and the Kominsky Method vet Sam Waterston, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The based-on-real-life film is already underway, with a cast that includes Milauna Jackson, Ebony Obsidian, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Jay Reeves and Sarah Jeffery.

Officially, the real-life group was known as the U.S. Army’s 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion; 855 Black women, both enlisted and officers, were deployed to Europe after combat training to deal with a massive backlog of letters and packages sent back and forth between millions of the country’s fighting men and their loved ones back home.

Their diligence and a unique organizational system they created to track each soldier in theater was considered key to the morale of American GIs, and therefore the overall war effort.

Maj. Charity Adams was the group’s commanding officer, and when the war was over, she’d achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel — at the time the highest-ranking Black woman in the Army.

Chase Rice travels “Way Down Yonder” to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Chase Rice plans to go a little bit rogue when he plays ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday.

He’s set to perform the track “Way Down Yonder” from his new I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go to Hell album, which comes out February 10.

“When we wrote this song, I had the mountains of North Carolina where I grew up in mind; all the moonshining history there in the Appalachians,” Chase says of the song. “Then all of a sudden during the recording process, [session musician] Rob McNelley started playing this crazy carnival sound on the acoustic … and it got Western quick.”

“That turned it from a song I didn’t think was even going to make the cut for this next album into one of my favorite songs on the project,” he adds.

“Way Down Yonder” is also the name of Chase’s new tour, which kicks off March 3 in Laughlin, Nevada.

Keith Richards hints that new Rolling Stones music is “on its way”

It sounds like The Rolling Stones may be treating fans to new music this year. In a belated New Year’s message posted to Instagram, Keith Richards gave fans a little insight into what he hopes will be happening with his band this year.

“Hi guys, here we are again,” he shared in a short video. “Wishing you all a belated Happy New Year.” He then added, “And there’s some new music on its way and hopefully we’ll get to see you. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.”

In the meantime, Stones fans are at least getting a new release next month. The Stones’ new live album and DVD, GRRR Live!, recorded during their guest-filled December 15, 2012, concert at Newark’s Prudential Center, is set to drop February 10. It features guest appearances by such big names as Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., Mick Taylor and The Black Keys.

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck dies at 78

The rock world has just lost another legend. Guitarist Jeff Beck passed away Tuesday from bacterial meningitis. He was 78.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” read a statement announcing his death. “After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Beck came to prominence as a member of the Yardbirds, but went on to have a successful solo career, fronting his own Jeff Beck Group. He is a two-time member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds and again in 2009 for his solo work.

He earned six Grammys for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, plus additional wins for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Pop Collaboration with vocals. He was honored with the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 2014. Rolling Stone ranked him in its top five of the 100 Greatest Guitarists.

Just last year Beck recorded new music with actor/rocker Johnny Depp, releasing the collaborative album 18 in July. He also appeared on two tracks of Ozzy Osbourne’s Grammy-nominated record Patient Number 9, including the title track, which has earned him another Grammy nod.

What is the FAA’s NOTAM computer system that led to widespread problems?

(WASHINGTON) — A computer issue with a critical system that keeps pilots informed caused thousands of delays and a temporary grounding of the nation’s airspace Wednesday.

When the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the issue with its Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system late Tuesday, an official told ABC News it led to a “cascading” series of IT failures culminating in the disruption.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told reporters a “backup system” with the FAA’s NOTAM system went into effect Tuesday night. The main NOTAM system went back online, but overnight, “it became clear that there were still issues in the accuracy of the information that was moving through the NOTAM system.”

Early Wednesday a reboot of the system took place, but when the refresh was “not sufficiently validated,” officials moved to institute a nationwide ground stop until “FAA could completely validate not only that the NOTAMS were populating correctly but also getting out to the aircraft,” the secretary said.

In a new statement Wednesday evening, the FAA said, “Our preliminary work has traced the outage to a damaged database file, adding, “The FAA is working diligently to further pinpoint the causes of this issue and take all needed steps to prevent this kind of disruption from happening again.”

What is the NOTAM system?

The NOTAM system is critical to flight operations. It tells pilots essential information needed before takeoff, such as runway conditions at destination airports, weather en route, and even real-time safety alerts during flight.

“Think of the NOTAM system as kind of an aviation neural network with the FAA in the center broadcasting to everybody who’s on it,” ABC News contributor and former commercial pilot John Nance told ABC News. “If you don’t have all that information, it almost boggles the mind as to how much trouble you could get into.”

Nance said pilots check the NOTAM system prior to departure. They typically receive the information through computers on aircraft but they can also be received in printed out versions.

“You can’t fly without that knowledge. I mean, legally, you can’t take off as a captain. So, we have to have them,” Nance said. “The reason the system is so important and that we’re not allowed to take off without having checked them is because it encompasses all the things that are not standard in your destination airport, your departure airport and your route.”

Asked whether the system is outdated and what can be done to keep the problem from happening again, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters NOTAM is “continuously being updated.” She noted the upcoming FAA reauthorization due later this year, and welcomed Congress “to ensure the FAA has what it needs to address these issues.”

“This is a top priority for the president, a top priority for the Department of Transportation and certainly FAA, and so we want to make sure that we get to the root causes so this does not happen again,” Jean-Pierre said.

The Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall reveals a toxic girlfriend once used a pet cam to spy on him

The Chainsmokers‘ Alex Pall opened up about a toxic relationship that once made him question his sanity.

Speaking to the Call Her Daddy podcast, Alex recalled a time when he was seeing a girl who would start fights with him and then disappear for days.

“All of these fights kept happening that I didn’t really, like, understand why,” he explained without dropping any names. “I would just get a text while on tour, like, ‘You’re a f***king a**hole,’ and I’d be, like, ‘I don’t know what I could have possibly have just done.’ And it’d be like, ‘You know what you did.'”

He added he would ask what he did wrong, but would be met with radio silence. “She would, like, disappear for two days,” said Alex, adding that he now knows the relationship was unhealthy because it made him feel like he was losing his mind.

Even though his family and friends “didn’t like her at this point,” he admits he kept hanging on because he’s an optimist who kept hoping for the best.

Things changed when he began suspecting his girlfriend had bugged the house because she would confront him about conversations he had when she wasn’t there.

Alex realized his ex had been spying on him for seven months using a motion-sensor pet camera he got for his dog. “I get up close to it and she had blacked out the recording light with a marker and then covered it with an additional piece of electrical tape, perfectly cut out,” he described.

Alex said he wanted “to be single and have fun” by that point, so he walked away from the relationship.
