It’s the collaboration that every rock fan has dreamed of for 60 years: The Beatles and The Rolling Stones together on an album. Well, sort of.

Multiple sources tell Variety that Paul McCartney has recorded bass parts for the album the Stones are working on, which is being produced by Ozzy Osbourne/Iggy Pop/Elton John producer Andrew Watt. What’s more, Ringo Starr is also set to play on the album.

Of course, the Stones lost their drummer, Charlie Watts, in 2021, and they’ve been without a permanent bass player since Bill Wyman left the group after their 1989-1990 Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour.

Variety reports that the sessions with McCartney took place in LA recently. It’s not definite which songs will actually make the final cut for the album or whether or not Ringo and Paul might play on the same songs. The publication reports that the album is getting close to its mixing phase, but it’s not clear when it’ll be released.

While the Stones, McCartney and Ringo have known each other since the ’60s, the catalyst for the collaboration might have been Watt: McCartney said in 2021 and 2022 that he’d been working with the Grammy-winning producer.

The new project, when it emerges, will be the Stones’ first album of original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. Their last new album, 2016’s Blue & Lonesome, was an album of blues covers.

One of Luke Combs‘ most-anticipated songs ever is finally set to arrive.

“Know y’all are ready for ‘5 Leaf Clover,'” he posted on his socials, “so going ahead and releasing it… on March 17!”

“March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day for those who didn’t catch that,” he added in the comments.

“I make it home every evening to an angel god sent from above,” Luke sings in the accompanying clip. “I’ve got an eight point on camera from last year that this season looks like a ten. I got a barn with a fridge full of cold beer, and on the weekend it’s full of good friends.

“I know I’m a lucky man, but I ain’t sure why I am,” the chorus continues. “‘Cause it ain’t like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand. I’ve hit my knees thankful as can be, but the one thing I can’t get over, Is how’d a guy like me who’da been fine with three wind up with a five-leaf clover?”

“5 Leaf Clover” will arrive one week before the release of Luke’s fourth album, Gettin’ Old, on March 24.

John Mayer was said to have avoided a scary situation when a stranger wandered onto his property in Los Angeles.

Page Six reports the singer’s security spotted the intruder and called police. The outlet spoke with the Los Angeles Police Department, who confirmed the incident took place and that police were dispatched to John’s home.

The department declined to provide further information. It is unknown if the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Mayer’s team hasn’t responded to the outlet’s request for comment.

TMZ was first to report on the incident and claimed police didn’t enter John’s home and instead combed the grounds for the alleged intruder. It was reported a police helicopter was used to search from above, but no arrests were made after the search failed to locate the suspect.

Sources told the outlet that authorities didn’t believe the stranger entered the singer’s home and that its security system wasn’t triggered.

‘Love to Love You, Donna Summer’ documentary to premiere on HBO in May

Love to Love You, Donna Summer, a new documentary about the life and career of the late Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, will debut on HBO in May. It’s directed by Roger Ross Williams and Donna’s daughter, Brooklyn Sudano.

The film had its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival over the weekend and features a wealth of archival footage, including home movies Summer shot herself. Brooklyn and her sister Mimi Dohler also talk on camera about their mom, as do their aunts and Summer’s widower, Bruce Sudano.

According to Deadline, the movie focuses on Summer’s struggle to reconcile her deeply religious upbringing with the hedonistic, sex-positive hits she recorded — such as “Love to Love You Baby” and “I Feel Love” — as the queen of disco. “I felt God could never forgive me because I had failed Him. I was decadent, I was stupid, I was a fool. I just decided that my life had no meaning,” Summer says in the film.

The movie also covers Summer’s late-career controversy, during which she became a born-again Christian and spoke about her faith at concerts, disappointing fans who just wanted to dance. She also alienated her gay fans with a notorious remark about God “making Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” and was reported as saying that AIDS was God’s judgment on gays.

“It’s something I don’t think she ever got over,” Sudano says of the regret Summer felt over the pain she’d caused her gay fans.

The Hollywood Reporter says in its review that the film shortchanges Summer’s iconic songs, noting that it “sorely needed a musicologist or two to reflect on the cultural significance of disco and why Summer became such a momentous force in the genre.”

Michael B. Jordan talks ‘Creed III’, his future in directing and more

Good Morning America

Michael B. Jordan is sharing more on why Creed III is an extremely personal project for him.

The actor returns as Adonis Creed in the upcoming film, facing off against his next opponent in the ring, his former childhood friend Damian, played by Jonathan Majors.

While appearing on Good Morning America Tuesday, Jordan said he’s attached to this project because he’s grown up with Adonis.

“I think over the last nine years, it’s the first character I actually had a chance to play three times,” he explained. “So where I was personally with my life, you know in acting, you try to bring your personal life to the role as much as you can, you try to make it relatable.”

He continued, “So for me on this one, I went through some transitional moments in my life and I tried to pour that into the character, into the Creed family as much as I could.”

The actor explained, “I think as an actor you’re always a part of somebody else’s vision and you’re trying to be the best you can to the best of your ability. But when you have a vision in your head — and you can see it clearly — to get other people to see the exact same thing that you see, I think that’s really satisfying.”

He said time management was the “hardest thing” about being Creed III‘s director and star: “Being able to prep, train and prepare for the next day of shooting,” MBJ explained.

And will he direct again? “I have to,” Jordan vowed. “All the lessons that I learned on this first try, I want to get back at it and do it again. I kind of — I love it.”

Creed III arrives in theaters March 3, 2023.

Adam Lambert reflects on Lil Nas X thanking him for opening more doors for queer artists

BMG

Adam Lambert looked back at how he contributed to improving conditions for queer artists in the music industry.

Speaking to NME, Adam reflected on how the media seemingly fixated on him wearing makeup on the cover of his 2009 album, For Your Entertainment.

“The guyliner [as] they coined it became this thing that had to be talked about and they didn’t understand,” he said, adding, “I was like: ‘Wait a minute. [Male] musicians have been wearing makeup since the ’50s, so what the hell are you talking about?’ I feel like pop culture sometimes has amnesia about what’s come before it.”

Now, it is more acceptable for male artists to wear makeup and experiment with fashion. Adam then reflected on Lil Nas X thanking him for opening the doors for queer artists by just being himself.

“That was really flattering, actually,” he said. The singer lavished praise onto Lil Nas X and raved, “I’m really impressed with everything that he’s doing… He’s got a great sense of humor about it and he’s fearless.”

Adam said he cannot take any credit for the rapper’s rise to superstardom, noting “that would be ridiculous,” but he agrees that he was part of a wave that opened doors for queer artists like him.

“Looking at the music industry now, 10 years on, it’s totally different… Now you can be queer and successful, it’s no longer a question mark; it’s no longer niche. Lil Nas X is mainstream and successful; Sam Smith is mainstream and successful,” he noted.

Adam said he worked to use his platform for good, adding, “It was [about] getting people to understand the queer community and not be scared of the queer community.”

The singer added his journey has been “really rewarding.”

His new album, High Drama, arrives this Friday, February 24.

Billy Joel may be in a “New York State of Mind,” but he and his wife, Alexis, were honored over the weekend at a benefit hosted by The Everglades Foundation for the work they’ve done for the people of Florida.

Billy and Alexis were honorary chairs for the event called Foreverglades. They were recognized for the work they’ve done through their charity, The Joel Foundation, in providing long-term recovery assistance to Florida residents in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

As winter residents of Florida, the cause is particularly important to the couple. At the event, they also announced a new gift to expand a pre-K-to-12 literacy education program in Florida’s Lee County.

Lionel Richie provided the entertainment at the Palm Beach event, performing hits like “All Night Long,” “Brick House” and “Easy” for the star-studded crowd.

The Everglades Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to restoring and protecting America’s Everglades.

Rhode Island Rep. David Cicilline leaving Congress to lead large nonprofit

(WASHINGTON) — Rhode Island Democratic Rep. David Cicilline is leaving Congress in June, according to a statement from his office.

Cicilline, who was elected to Congress in 2010, will become the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation, the largest nonprofit in the state, his office said on Tuesday. He will step down from his office on June 1.

“Serving the people of Rhode Island’s First Congressional District has been the honor of my lifetime,” he said in a statement. “As President and CEO of one of the largest and oldest community foundations in the nation, I look forward to expanding on the work I have led for nearly thirty years in helping to improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders.”

Cicilline served as the mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, the state capital, from 2003-2011 before joining the House, where he has since been a voice on the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees.

He also served as an impeachment manager during the second impeachment of former President Donald Trump, in the wake of Jan. 6.

In a 2022 book, he wrote that he was “certain Trump deserved to be held accountable” for his actions on the day of the Capitol insurrection.

“David Cicilline will be remembered as a fighter,” Rich Luchette, a longtime aide, told ABC News. “Whether it was cleaning up a corrupt city government, advocating on important issues or leading the second impeachment of Donald Trump, I have never seen another public servant roll up their sleeves and do whatever it took to get the job done.”

“Our country will miss his tenacity,” said Luchette, now an associate vice president at Precision Strategies.

Reaction from members of the Rhode Island Congressional delegation were supportive as well.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse called Cicilline “an able, hard-fighting colleague” and added that he’ll “miss his spirit in our delegation” but that Cicilline will be a great asset for the Rhode Island Foundation.

Sen. Jack Reed likewise called Cicilline a “hard charger” who has been an “incredible champion” for Rhode island families.

“David is an incredibly effective legislator who tackled big issues and got things done to improve people’s lives and help Rhode Island,” Reed said. “He’s been a leading voice on human rights, civil rights, marriage equality, gun safety, anti-trust, bringing back manufacturing jobs, and so much more.”

Colleagues in the House agreed.

“For over a decade, Congressman Cicilline has served the people of Rhode Island’s First Congressional District with honor, courage, and decency,” Freshman Rhode Island Rep. Seth Magaziner said. “Many elected officials can only dream of achieving as much as Rep. Cicilline has during his time in Congress, and I thank him for his many years of dedicated public service to the people of Rhode Island.”

Cicilline said he put his “heart and soul” into serving the people of Rhode Island.

Rhode Island will hold a special election to finish out Cicilline’s term. That date has not yet been set by state officials.
