While promoting his new action comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, director Guy Ritchie gave an update on his hit Sherlock Holmes series: In short, just like in the movies, only Holmes knows.
Ritchie called the shots on both 2009’s hit Sherlock Holmes and its 2011 sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Holmes to Jude Law‘s Dr. Watson. Both films made over 1 billion bucks at the box office worldwide, so a third installment was technically a no-brainer for Warner Bros.
However, in reality it’s not so elementary, dear Watson.
While it was announced Ritchie was stepping back as director for a third film, with his Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star-turned-Bohemian Rhapsody director Dexter Fletcher taking over, the latter noted to Collider last year that the COVID-19 pandemic “derailed” progress on the threequel.
For his part, Ritchie just told the same website it’s up to Downey to make a third film a reality. “Well, honestly, I left this up to Robert. So, Robert wanted to be in charge of it, so it’s — the ball’s in his court. He’s in charge of the script, he’s in charge of that whole thing, so I’ve moonwalked out of that until there’s a time for me to get involved.”

Diane Warren is headed to the Oscars next month. The songwriter is set to accompany actress and singer Sofia Carson for the performance of “Applause,” from the movie Tell It like a Woman, which is nominated for Best Original Song.
They join previously announced Oscar performer Rihanna, who’ll be on hand to perform her nominated track “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Other songs nominated in the category include “Hold My Hand,” written by Lady Gaga, from Top Gun: Maverick, “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian film RRR and “This Is A Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once, written by David Byrne, Mitski and Son Lux.
Warren wrote the music and lyrics to “Applause”; this is her 14th Oscar nomination. While she hasn’t won an actual trophy yet, she did receive an honorary Oscar at the Governor’s Awards last November.
(WASHINGTON) — Former Vice President Mike Pence has declined an invitation to the Conservative Political Action Conference, sources told ABC News.
The decision by Pence, who is debating a 2024 presidential run, comes as other notable figures are absent from this year’s lineup.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who spoke at CPAC last year, has two events scheduled in Texas as CPAC gets underway in Maryland.
A spokesperson for CPAC told ABC News that neither Pence nor DeSantis are currently slated to attend.
DeSantis’ spokesperson did not respond to ABC News’ request for comment. A spokesperson for Pence declined to comment.
Pence did not attend the event in 2022 and declined an invitation in 2021. This year’s absences come as the chairman of CPAC — which bills itself as the “largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world” — is embroiled in a sexual assault scandal.
Earlier this year, a staffer for one-time Senate candidate Herschel Walker alleged that Matt Schlapp, the chairman of CPAC, “groped” and “fondled” his crotch while he was driving Schlapp back from a bar in Atlanta, according to a report from The Daily Beast. The staffer then filed a lawsuit against Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes, seeking $9.4 million for sexual battery and defamation, according to a report.
A statement from Schlapp’s attorney at the time said the complaint is “false” and the “Schlapps and their legal team are assessing counter lawsuit options.”
But some say the allegations have “exacerbated” issues for the organization.
“It shouldn’t come as a surprise that CPAC is not attracting the big names that it once did. There’s a feeling within the Republican Party that CPAC has long abandoned the traditional values that it once stood for,” one GOP operative said. “The allegations against Matt Schlapp for allegedly ‘pummeling’ a man’s ‘junk’ against his will have only exacerbated these issues and are likely to contribute to further decline by the organization.”
Still, the event had drawn speakers such as former President Donald Trump and ambassador Nikki Haley, both of whom have declared their candidacy for 2024.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently called for a “national divorce” between Republican and Democratic states, is also scheduled to speak.
Kari Lake, the Trump-backed candidate who lost her bid for governor in Arizona and pushed false claims of election fraud, will be the featured speaker for Friday night’s Reagan dinner.
The CPAC announcement praised her as “a rare leader who captured the hearts of conservatives with her honest, bold message including closing the Arizona border and exposing widespread election fraud.”
“CPAC is a great place for conservatives to come together, Lake said in a video posted on Twitter by Schlapp last week.
Tom Cruise famously flies airplanes, climbs impossibly tall buildings and jumps off of mountains with a motorcycle, but James Corden put him up to a high-profile stunt of a different kind Thursday night.
According to The Late Late Show‘s Instagram, Corden and Cruise suited up in costume as the meerkat Timon and the warthog Pumbaa, respectively, at a performance of Disney’s The Lion King at the Pantages Theatre.
Appearing in theater productions is old hat for Corden, having won a Tony for One Man, Two Guvnors back in 2012, so perhaps the gag was payback for Tom scaring the heck out of him in the cockpit of a fighter jet in a segment of The Late Late Show.
The Lion King bit was part of outgoing host Corden’s upcoming The Last Last Late Late Show Primetime Special, which will air on April 27 on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+.
The Struts have released a new EP called Unplugged at EastWest.
As you can probably guess from the title, the set features acoustic performances recorded at the famed EastWest Studios in Los Angeles. The four tracks included are the single “Fallin’ with Me,” covers of Oasis‘ “Supersonic” and Michael Jackson‘s “Stranger in Moscow,” and a full-length version of the TikTok viral tune “Pretty Vicious.”
You can listen to Unplugged at EastWest now via digital outlets and watch footage from the session via The Struts’ YouTube channel.
The Struts put out their most recent album, Strange Days, in 2020.
In September, fans will be able to get their hands on a meta piece of memorabilia from Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: the actual memoir from which Paul Rudd reads as his alter ego at an autograph signing in the beginning of the film.
At a recent press event, Rudd explains of his character, Scott Lang, “When we start this movie … the events of [Avengers] Endgame, everything has already transpired. So Scott has, I wouldn’t say he’s taking a victory lap — but others might say that. And he’s written … a bit of a memoir, Look Out for The Little Guy! And he’s explained everything that’s been going on in life and his experiences with The Avengers.”
The book is a real thing, with a cover that looks just as it does in the movie. “I think you just have to, you know, run out to your nearest Barnes & Noble or wherever you get your books and/or download,” Rudd teases. “It will be a very fun and informative read. I don’t want to give anything away.”
At that, Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, piped in. “Who wrote it?” she asked.
“Scott Lang wrote it,” Rudd explains. “Really?!” she replied.
“Yeah. Yeah,” Rudd insisted.
Look Out for The Little Guy! comes out on hardcover on September 22 — and it’s already an Amazon #1 bestseller. The publisher calls it a “bracingly honest account of his struggles and triumphs, from serving time to being a divorced dad to becoming Ant-Man and joining The Avengers” and promises “stories of epic battles won and lost, as this everyman turned Super Hero finally tells all.”
Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
It’s the last Friday of the month, and it’s flooded with new releases. Here’s a list of some of the newest music to hit the culture.

Chlöe featuring Chris Brown, “How Does It Feel” — The singer released her CB collaboration despite receiving backlash following her announcement of the song. The track, accompanied by a video, samples Usher‘s “Throwback” featuring Jadakiss.
Conway the Machine featuring Saucy Walka, Juicy J, “Super Bowl” — The song is about “celebrating BIG WINS.” “In life, you gotta be proud of yourself for all of your hard work paying off. A win is a blessing, and you always gotta count your blessings,” Conway says.
Mount Westmore, “Motto” — Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40 and Too $hort reunited for the Rick Rock Beats-produced track/video, which follows “Too Big” and “Free Game.”
Drake, 21 Savage, “Spin Bout U” — The duo’s new video sees them rescue a woman who eventually drugs and kidnaps them, making way for other women to steal their jewelry and burn their ship.
Dirty Heads have announced a new EP titled Midnight Control Sessions: Night 2.
The four-track collection arrives April 14 and is one of three EPs the “Lay Me Down” outfit plans to put out this year. Each one features music Dirty Heads wrote and recorded while working on their latest album, Midnight Control.
The first single from Night 2 is titled “Rescue Me” and samples the melody of Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Dani California.”
“This song is about the spirit of California and the influence she’s had on us as human beings,” says vocalist Jared Watson. “The beach, the desert, and the mountains, all available within the same day, waiting with open arms to feed your soul.”
You can listen to “Rescue Me” now via digital outlets and watch its accompanying video streaming now on YouTube.
Midnight Control was released last August. It includes the single “Life’s Been Good,” a reworking of the 1978 Joe Walsh song of the same name.
