20th Century Studios has announced that a ninth film in the Alien franchise will get underway in Budapest on March 9.

The latest entry will be directed and co-written by Don’t Breathe‘s Fede Alvarez. It will be produced by Ridley Scott, who directed 1979’s original Alien, and produced and directed the series’ most recent entries, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

The new movie stars Mare of Easttown‘s Cailee Spaeny, who will be joined by David Jonsson from HBO’s Industry and Archie Renaux from Netflix’s Shadow and Bone.

According to the studio, the new film will center on “a group of young people on a distant world [who] find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

The film took the place of District 9 director Neill Blomkamp‘s once-greenlit project that could have reunited Alien‘s original action hero Sigourney Weaver with Michael Biehn, her co-star in James Cameron‘s acclaimed 1986 sequel Aliens. That project fizzled, in part, when 20th Century Fox was acquired by ABC News’ parent company Disney and later rebranded 20th Century Studios.

During a congressional hearing about Ticketmaster’s alleged monopoly of the live entertainment industry in January, senators including Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar, Utah Republican Mike Lee and Connecticut Democrat Richard Blumenthal had fun working quotes from Taylor Swift songs into their remarks. Now, Attorney General Merrick Garland has been outed as a huge Swiftie, also in connection with the Ticketmaster issue.

According to the Wall Street Journal, at a congressional hearing on Wednesday, senators questioned Garland about the Justice Department’s investigation into Ticketmaster, which had started before the company botched the sale for Taylor’s upcoming Eras Tour.

“Channeling Taylor Swift, I know that ‘All Too Well,'” Garland told them at one point, adding, “I’m pretty familiar with Taylor Swift.”

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Garland says his favorite Taylor song is “Shake It Off,” and that he’s been a fan since his daughters made him listen to her debut album and Fearless on repeat when he drove them to school when they were little. “We invented carpool karaoke before it was a thing,” Garland said.

His daughters have gifted him multiple Taylor albums, including the latest one, Midnights. According to The Journal, every time she releases an album, the Garland family “gathers on the phone to swap notes.”

But come on now, real talk: Did Garland and/or his daughters manage to snag tickets to the Eras Tour?

Citing yet another Taylor song, Garland replied, “That is a ‘Delicate’ question.”

‘Creed III’ punches hard in sneak previews

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Inc.

Before the bell has even rung, Creed III has come out punching.

Deadline reports the movie earned $5.45 million from preview screenings Wednesday and Thursday evening, and is on track to earn upwards of $40 million over the weekend.

The movie is tracking well on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96% Audience Score. Its preview performance bests the $3.6 million made from the sneaks of 2018’s Creed II and the $1.4 million earned by the original Rocky spin-off, Creed, in 2015.

If Creed III meets or exceeds those estimates, leading man Michael B. Jordan‘s directorial debut could easily knock out the $29.6 million earned by the original over its opening weekend, and even beat that of the $35.5 million earned by its sequel in its debut bout in theaters.

Following the hit “Rest in Peace,” Dorothy is climbing the charts once again with “Black Sheep.”

The track currently sits in the top 15 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart; Dorothy previously reached as high as #2 with “Rest in Peace.” You can watch a new live video for “Black Sheep,” filmed at the famed Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, streaming now on YouTube.

Speaking with ABC Audio, frontwoman Dorothy Martin describes “Black Sheep” as a “rock ‘n’ roll community song.”

“It’s for our family, it’s for our fans, all us misfits that wanna rock ‘n’ roll,” Martin shares.

“It’s just about not apologizing for who you are, if you’re a little off or a little weird or a little different,” she continues. “We wrote it for the fans, we want them to know it’s like our love letter to them.”

Both “Black Sheep” and “Rest in Peace” appear on the new Dorothy album Gifts from the Holy Ghost, which was released last April. Dorothy will headline the Troubadour in Los Angeles on March 31 to celebrate the upcoming one-year anniversary of the album and in honor of Women’s History Month.

Macklemore‘s new album, BEN, is out Friday — and he’s just announced a North American headlining tour and dropped a new video, “No Bad Days,” directed by none other than his daughter Sloane.

“My dream director. Also, my co-star,” Macklemore says of Sloane, who’s 7. ”Sloane has had a creative pulse since I can remember. Her style, her eye, her freestyles, her melodies. Outside of her mom I probably trust her creative input more than anyone else. And she has never been shy about her opinion.”

He adds, “I’m so proud of who she is that it puts tears in my eyes thinking about it. To be able to brainstorm, dream, flush out ideas and ultimately pull it off with Sloane at the helm … this one will be one of my favorite videos forever. I hope it makes you smile.”

“No Bad Days” is from BEN, Macklemore’s third album. It’s titled after his birth name, Ben Haggerty, and he says in a statement, “There’s something about a self-titled record. It has an air of voyeurism. I’m letting people in, but in a way that I hadn’t felt 100% comfortable about allowing before. I am now though.”

The Ben Tour starts September 17 in Nashville and is set to wrap up October 18 at in LA. The general sale for tickets begins March 10 at 10 a.m. local time, but Citi and American Express presales start March 6. Go to Macklemore.com for all the details.

During the tour, the “Thrift Shop” rapper will be donating $1 per ticket to Bridges – Seattle Alternative Peer Group to fund its work mentoring youth in recovery.

“Ghostface” sightings causing panic; reportedly part of viral marketing for ‘Scream VI’

“Ghostface” sightings causing panic; reportedly part of viral marketing for ‘Scream VI’
Paramount Pictures

In what could be seen as a tone-deaf, considering the state of the country right now and high crime rates in various cites, costumers aping Scream‘s Ghostface killer have been popping up around the country, in what Variety reports is an attempt to promote the franchise’s sixth installment.

And as the trade reports, the sightings are causing not a few calls to 911.

Sonoma, California, New Orleans, and St. Louis, Missouri, are among the “killer’s” haunting grounds, according to the trade.

While Paramount Pictures is mum, the “real” Ghostface’s official Twitter account took note. It retweeted some of the appearances, saying “I’m watching you,” adding a hashtag for the film.

Viral marketing can be used to great effect for lower budget productions: As reported, during MLB Playoff and World Series games, actors were placed in prime positions to be caught on camera showing off creepy frozen smiles and shirts reading “Smile” — all part of a successful campaign to promote the hit horror movie of the same name.

That said, nobody had heard of Smile at the time, so it didn’t cause any panic. By contrast, most people know the Munch-like mask of Ghostface, so this guerrilla marketing might be seen as … overkill.

Scream VI, which stars Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, Melissa Barerra and Courteney Cox, opens in theaters March 10.

Bonnaroo declares itself “place for inclusivity” following Tennessee drag law

Bonnaroo has issued a statement following Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee‘s passing of a law restricting public drag performances in the state.

The law prohibits “adult cabaret performance,” which includes “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators, or similar entertainers,” on public property or in places it could be seen by a minor. Lee also passed a law banning gender-affirming health care for minors.

In a statement posted to Bonnaroo’s Twitter, organizers for the festival, which has been held in Manchester, Tennessee, since 2002, write, “Bonnaroo has and will always be a place for inclusivity, a safe haven for people of all walks of life and a champion of self-expression.”

“Rest assured The Farm will remain a sanctuary for those freedoms,” the statement continues. “Bonnaroovians will see no changes in programming or celebration of self-expression at the festival.”

This year’s Bonnaroo takes place June 15-18. The lineup includes Foo Fighters, Paramore, Portugal. The Man, Korn, AFI and Marcus Mumford, among others.
