Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars announced his retirement from touring back in October, citing his ongoing battle with the inflammatory disease ankylosing spondylitis, or AS. But it sounds like there may have been more to his decision.

In a new interview with Ultimate Guitar, drummer Carmine Appice, who’s worked with Vanilla FudgeRod StewartKing Kobra and more, claims that Mars “was not happy” while out on Mötley’s Stadium Tour with Def Leppard.

“Basically, everything was on tape; it was all planned out and ultimately a lot of crap,” Appice, who’s friends with Mars, explains. “And Mick is a pretty good player, and so, to [not] let him loose and play the way he wants, that was never going to work for him.”

He notes, “The truth is that everything has been weird for a while with Mötley Crue,” adding that Mick was “pissed off” that everything was on tape, with Appice saying it was obvious.

The drummer also says Mick wasn’t getting along with his bandmates and he “would travel alone on a bus while the other guys flew everywhere. They were all busy still trying to be rock stars, and Mick just wanted to play the music,” he says. “Their lifestyles are different than his, and so there were a lot of disagreements. I think he was just done.”

Donald Glover‘s new series Swarm may feature music from his alter ego, Childish Gambino. Teasers of the show preview a snippet of a song titled “Sticky.” It will reportedly be part of an EP that is slated to come out Friday.

“Y’all waitin on visuals, meanwhile we gettin a whole EP,” read a tweet from the Swarm Twitter account. “Original music from the series by Ni’Jah with Kirby featuring Childish Gambino available 3/17.”

For the uninitiated, Ni’Jah is the Beyoncé-like character in Swarm, which showcases the dark side of fandom. Created by Glover and Janine Nabers, the series stars Dominique FishbackChlöe and Damson Idris.

“We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” Donald told Vanity Fair in January. “Me and my brother Stephen were talking about finding someone like Isabelle Huppert, as far as risk-takers in performances.”

“A lot of people did it out of the kindness of their hearts and they did a really great job,” he continued of the show, which included Malia Obama on the writing team. “Dom, Damson, Chlöe. I was really blown away at how hard they worked on the tone, ’cause it’s a strange one.”

Swarm premieres March 17 on Prime Video.

Ellie Goulding is readying the release of her new album, Higher than Heaven, out April 7, but the singer revealed she’s been working on a classical album on the side.

“I have made a classical album in the past couple of years, a few friends, we just have to finish it,” she told Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe. “I’m kind of moving towards that. I think that would be fun.”

Unfortunately, that was all the information Ellie was willing to share.

Elsewhere in the interview, the singer opened up about the added pressure social media puts on artists, especially when it comes to making a big splash.

“There is a lot of waiting around for an artist to … make something viral. I would say it’s different now. You have more control, but you are also like, ‘What the hell is going on?'” she explained, adding, “There’s so many different ways of now putting your music out there.”

She also notes the way artists present themselves to fans has changed, which leads to questions like, “Am I giving away too much or am I not giving enough?”

“People are just desperate for information … They want to know you, they want to know every single thing that goes into a song. They now want to know a song before it even comes out, even gets played on the radio for the first time,” Ellie continued.

The singer added TikTok has further broken down the mystique of artists. “The videos that my label make and management make just don’t often get the same attention as me just coming home late night dancing in my kitchen,” she said. “I feel like the mysterious thing is just gone. No one can do that anymore.”

Her new song “Miracle” with Calvin Harris is out now.

Spiritbox will no longer be playing on Falling in Reverse‘s upcoming Popular Monstour.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the Canadian metallers write, “We have withdrawn from the 6 shows we were scheduled to perform on the Popular Monstour.”

The statement comes a week after the Popular Monstour was announced. FiR is headlining, and the bill also includes Underoath, Ice Nine Kills and Crown the Empire.

Falling in Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke has faced many controversies over the years, including supporting Crown the Empire guitarist Brandon Hoover amid allegations of abuse against him. Crown the Empire has denied the allegations, and issued a cease and desist to the accuser.

The Popular Monstour — which is named after Falling in Reverse’s 2019 single “Popular Monster” — kicks off in June.

Russian fighters collide with US drone, force it down close to Ukraine

U.S. Air Force, FILE

(NEW YORK) — Russian fighter jets collided with the rear propeller of an unmanned U.S. military drone on Tuesday, forcing the U.S. to bring down the drone into the waters.

U.S. European Command labeled the incident as “dangerous” and said it could “lead to miscalculation and unintended escalation.”

“At approximately 7:03 AM (CET), one of the Russian Su-27 aircraft struck the propeller of the MQ-9, causing U.S. forces to have to bring the MQ-9 down in international waters,” U.S. European Command said in a statement.

“Several times before the collision, the Su-27s dumped fuel on and flew in front of the MQ-9 in a reckless, environmentally unsound and unprofessional manner,” it added.

EUCOM said the incident “demonstrates a lack of competence in addition to being unsafe and unprofessional.”

The incident is apparently the latest in what EUCOM labeled a “a pattern of dangerous actions by Russian pilots while interacting with U.S. and Allied aircraft over international airspace, including over the Black Sea.”

And it stressed that “These aggressive actions by Russian aircrew are dangerous and could lead to miscalculation and unintended escalation.”

“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian aircraft, resulting in a crash and complete loss of the MQ-9,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. James B. Hecker, commander, U.S. Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa. “In fact, this unsafe and unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both aircraft to crash.”

“U.S. and Allied aircraft will continue to operate in international airspace and we call on the Russians to conduct themselves professionally and safely,” Hecker added.

Embattled Rep. George Santos files 2024 candidacy papers with FEC

(WASHINGTON) — Embattled Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., on Tuesday filed a new statement of candidacy to the Federal Election Commission, indicating he’s running for reelection — a move that will allow him to continue to raise campaign funds.

The new filing is in response to a letter from the FEC last month asking Santos to clarify if he’s running again in 2024, in order for him to continue raising money through his principal campaign committee, Devolder-Santos for Congress.

Campaign finance experts say it’s common for newly elected members of Congress to immediately declare candidacy again for a new election cycle in order to continue raising money, and that it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will for certain run again the following year.

But the new statement of candidacy from Santos is notable because of the unique situation the embattled freshman congressman is in, experts have said.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Paramount Pictures has released the first poster for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and perhaps not surprisingly, it highlights one of Tom Cruise‘s most death-defying stunts.

Cruise is shown in mid-free fall from a mountain, tailing his motorcycle, from which he sped off the precipice in Norway.

The motorcycle gag lead to a BASE jump from that height, a stunt the filmmakers say was the most dangerous Cruise ever performed.

Dead Reckoning – Part One stars Cruise, as well as returning M:I players Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny and Vanessa Kirby, and series newcomers Esai Morales, Guardians of the Galaxy vet Pom Klementieff and her fellow Marvel movie star Hayley Atwell.

Dead Reckoning Part One, the seventh adventure in the blockbuster franchise, opens July 14. Part Two debuts in July 2024.
