Peacock renews ‘Bel-Air’ for season 3

While the second season rolls on, Peacock has given a third-season renewal to Bel-Air, its acclaimed and well-rated dramatic reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Inspired by Morgan Cooper‘s lauded short film, the first season debut of Bel-Air became Peacock’s most-watched original premiere when it launched in February of last year; its second season, which launched February 23, tops the streaming service’s original shows in their sophomore year.

Season 2 also saw the return of Fresh Prince alumna Tatyana Ali, who is a recurring guest star for the current season, which drops new episodes every Thursday through April 27.

Bel-Air‘s current cast also includes Jabari Banks, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Adrian Holmes, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Simone Joy Jones, Jimmy Akingbola and Jordan L. Jones.

Lance Reddick, star of ‘John Wick’ films, ‘The Wire’, dead at 60

Celebrated character actor Lance Reddick has died at 60 years old, ABC News has confirmed.

The star who played Baltimore cop Cedrick Daniels in HBO’s acclaimed drama The Wire more recently logged memorable recurring performances as The Continental’s concierge Charon in the John Wick series — including the upcoming fourth installment.

According to his rep, Reddick passed away “suddenly from natural causes” Friday morning. The statement continued, “Lance will be greatly missed.”

Reddick had been on a promotional tour for the new film in the hit franchise, but was absent at the New York City premiere Thursday evening. Instead, he Instagrammed a photo of himself at his California home with his four beloved dogs.

The actor also appeared in Lost and Netflix’s Resident Evil series. He was a veteran voiceover talent, as well, lending his voice to games like the Destiny franchise and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

His rep notes he is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick, and children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. Donations can be made in the actor’s name to the charity momcares.org, benefiting his hometown of Baltimore.

De La Soul pays homage to Trugoy the Dove during ‘Tonight Show’ performance

De La Soul appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they honored their late member Trugoy the Dove. Taking the stage, they performed their hit classic “Stakes Is High,” receiving a little help from The Roots.

Maseo took on turntable duties, Questlove played the drums and Black Thought joined Posdnuos, filling in for Trugoy the Dove, whose image was displayed on the onstage screen.

“It’s a moment in our lives that was really important,” Trugoy, born David Jolicoeur, said in a clip that played throughout the studio. “It guided us in a direction that made us who we are today. Fighting for our music, fighting for our legacy.”

“Thank you, Dave!” Pos concluded the segment.

De La Soul’s been celebrating their catalog dropping on streaming services, one of the many topics they discussed with Jimmy on the couch. According to DJ Drama, they’ll soon be releasing a Gangsta Grillzmixtape. No details about the forthcoming project were disclosed; it remains to be seen whether Trugoy, who passed away in February, will be included.

Walker Hayes reflects on fatherhood with two new songs

“Fancy Like” hitmaker Walker Hayes reflects on fatherhood, loss, life and fame in his new songs “6 string american dream” and “if father time had a daughter.“

In “6 string american dream,” Walker takes a long, hard look at his life and the journey he’s trekked, with its highs and lows.

“Yeah I’m a little bit higher up on that Nashville ladder/ But money didn’t fix anything that really matters/ My haters still say I can’t sing/ My marriage still needs counseling/ My sons don’t know how not to fight/ My daughter’s shorts are too short & too tight/ If I’m drinking honestly/ Still can’t drink responsibly/ I’m a 6 string American dream/ But I still wake up sad/ I still need Jesus/ And I still miss my dad,” Walker sings in the candid chorus.

Meanwhile, in “if father time had a daughter,” the singer begs the fictional Father Time to slow down the clock for dads so that their daughters don’t have to grow up so quickly.

“Been waiting to get these two songs out for a long time,” Walker says. “As I look at the body of work and the songs I’m sitting on, I think about what I want to say – and this is what I want to say to the world right now. These songs wreck me in different ways and it’s my hope that everyone that listens will leave feeling real feelings.”

The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde blasts the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Chrissie Hynde is the latest female artist to call out the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Following Courtney Love’s tweet and op-ed in The Guardian blasting the lack of female representation in the Hall of Fame, Hynde shared her thoughts — and let’s just say she’s not a fan.

“If anyone wants my position in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame they are welcome to it,” Hynde, who was inducted in 2005 with The Pretenders, writes on Facebook. “I don’t even wanna be associated with it. It’s just more establishment backslapping. I got in a band so I didn’t have to be part of all that.”

Hynde says when she found out The Pretenders were to be inducted she was living in Rio and “my heart sank because I knew I’d have to go back for it as it would be too much of a kick in the teeth to my parents if I didn’t. I’d upset them enough by then, so it was one of those things that would bail me out from years of disappointing them. (like moving out of the USA and being arrested at PETA protests and my general personality).”

Neil Young was on hand to induct The Pretenders at the annual gala and even performed with them. Hynde says that was the only good thing about the evening. “The whole thing was, and is, total bollocks,” she offers. “It’s absolutely nothing to do with rock ‘n’ roll and anyone who thinks it is is a fool.”

CMT has just announced the star-studded programming for this year’s CMT Music Awards Week.

Happening from March 27 to April 2, the network will air several original programs, including two new CMT Storytellers episodes featuring Dierks Bentley and CMT Music Awards co-host Kane Brown. It will also air CMT Defining, a new series of specials that will highlight the career of a featured female artist, in celebration of CMT Next Women of Country’s 10th anniversary. Carly Pearce will be the spotlight artist for the first special.

Paul Rodgers says goodbye to Gary Rossington; Lynyrd Skynyrd music sees bump following guitarist’s death

Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s Gary Rossington passed away earlier this month, as previously reported, and now it appears he’s been laid to rest.

Rocker Paul Rodgers seemed to reveal the news when he shared a picture of himself with his Free/Bad Company bandmate Simon Kirke on social me dia, writing, “Pilgrimage complete. Saying goodbye to Gary Rossington, a friend of 50 years!”

Meanwhile, Rossington’s death has sparked renewed interest in the band’s music. Billboard reports the band’s catalog has seen a 16% bump in streams since he passed away March 5 at the age of 71. They also moved 6,000 downloads in the week following his death, an increase of 103%.

Specific songs seeing boosts include the classic “Sweet Home Alabama,” which saw a 7% jump, up to 4.5 million streams from 4.2 million, as well as “Simple Man,” with a 5% increase, “Free Bird,” with an 11% bump, and “Gimme Three Steps,” up 8%.

The renewed interest helped put three of those songs back on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts, with “Sweet Home Alabama” at 17, “Simple Man” at 21 and “Free Bird” at 24.

Luke Combs is grateful for his “5 Leaf Clover”

Luke Combs is a lucky man, and he’s reflecting on that in his new song, “5 Leaf Clover.”

Penned by Luke, Chase McGill and Jessi Alexander, the track finds the country star counting his blessings for the beautiful life he has.

“I know I’m a lucky man, but I ain’t sure why I am/ ‘Cause it ain’t like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand/ Now I hit my knees, thankful as can be/ But the one thing I can’t get over/ How’d a guy like me, who’d have been fine with three/ Wind up with a five-leaf clover?” Luke sings in the midtempo chorus.

“One of the 1st times I ever played 5 Leaf Clover, and y’all have politely let me know to release it ever since. Haha. I’m glad to say it’s now out everywhere, and I hope y’all love it!” Luke writes in an Instagram post alongside a performance video of “5 Leaf Clover.”

“‘I know I’m a lucky man but I ain’t sure why I am.’ My wife, son, family, friends, and Y’ALL are some of the biggest reasons why I’m a lucky man,” he adds. “And I’ll be forever grateful to y’all for giving me the opportunity to get to do something I love – create and play country music. Thank you!”

“5 Leaf Clover” is the latest preview of Luke’s forthcoming album, Gettin’ Old, which drops on March 24.

John Oates covers Timmy Thomas’ “Why Can’t We Live Together”

John Oates is back with another new single: This time he’s shared a cover of the Timmy Thomas track “Why Can’t We Live Together,” which some music fans may recognize as the tune sampled in Drake‘s 2015 hit “Hotline Bling.”

“When thinking about the state of our world today I was reminded of the brilliant, classic 1970’s anti-war anthem by Timmy Thomas,” Oates shares. “The original was a stark and powerfully beautiful recording using only a primitive drum machine and Hammond B3 organ to support his haunting vocal performance.”

He adds, “I felt the time was right for me to cover this great song … but I wanted to reimagined (sic) in my own style with ‘doo wop’ style background vocals, a live band and as a final touch a very 1970s electric sitar riff that I did at home to add a little more period sweetness.”

“Why Can’t We Live Together” is the third of a series of tracks Oates will release each month. He previously released the tracks “Disconnected” and “Pushin’ a Rock.”

Update: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band resume tour after postponing three shows

After postponing three shows due to illness, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band returned to the stage Thursday night for a show at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

According to the Asbury Park Press, The Boss didn’t talk about the illness that forced the postponement of the shows in Columbus, Ohio; Uncasville, Connecticut; and Albany, New York, or who it actually affected.

Regardless, it sounds like everyone was healthy and raring to play, with the 73-year-old Bruce and the band rocking the house for two hours and 45 minutes. The set included “Prove It All Night,” “Letters To You,” “The Promise Land,” “Trapped,” “Backstreets,” “Thunder Road,” “Born To Run” and “Rosalita.”

“I love being in Philadelphia,” The Boss said during the show. “Philadelphia has meant so much to us for such a long time. Thank you for a beautiful reception.”

The band’s next concert is happening Saturday in State College, Pennsylvania. The first U.S. leg of the tour wraps April 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, before they hit Europe later in April. A complete list of dates can be found at brucespringsteen.net.

As for those postponed shows, Springsteen just announced the rescheduled dates, with Uncasville, Connecticut, set for September 16; Albany, New York, happening September 19; and Columbus, Ohio, set for September 21. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for all shows, and those who can’t make the new dates have until April 16 to request a refund from Ticketmaster.
