Man’s attempt to kidnap child from school bus stop thwarted by group of kids: Police

(GAITHERSBURG, Md.) — An attempted kidnapping at a school bus stop went wrong for one 30-year-old man whose attempt was thwarted by a group of children who came to the defense of one of their classmates.

The incident occurred early Monday morning in Gaithersburg, Maryland — approximately 20 miles north of Washington, D.C. — when several students were standing at a bus stop waiting to be picked up by their school bus when 30-year-old Jamaal Germany allegedly attempted to kidnap one of the students.

“The victim stated that they were standing at the bus stop in the 17600 block of Towne Crest Dr., at approximately 7:20 a.m., when the suspect allegedly grabbed the child and pulled them toward an apartment building,” read a statement from the Montgomery County Police Department following the incident. “Several students who were standing at the bus stop attempted to intervene and the victim was able to break free.”

The suspect’s motives regarding the attempted kidnapping are currently unclear as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Authorities say that when the school bus arrived, all the students were accounted for and boarded the bus before the incident was reported to school staff. A community engagement officer also responded to the children’s school approximately 30 minutes after the attempted kidnapping incident was reported.

“Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Germany as the suspect,” said the Montgomery County Police department. “He was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. Bond information is not available at this time.”

Detectives from the Special Victims Investigation Division are asking for anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of Germany to call 240-773-5400.

The investigation is ongoing.

NSYNC’s Lance Bass on why the group owes fans “some kind of goodbye”

Twenty-three years ago today — March 21, 2000 — NSYNC released their third album, No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first week. That record stood for 15 years, until Adele broke it in 2015 with 25. The group released one more album, 2001’s Celebrity, before going on an indefinite “hiatus” in 2002. But because the group never officially broke up, they left fans wanting more — and NSYNC’s Lance Bass wants to give it to them.

Lance, Justin, JC, Joey and Chris reunited for one performance, at the 2013 MTV VMAs; and Lance, Joey, JC and Chris performed with Ariana Grande at Coachella in 2019. But Lance tells ABC Audio fans simply feel they’ve got unfinished business.

“I hear it all the time. The fans are just saying, ‘Just give us one more song. One more tour, one more show. Just a goodbye,'” he says. “And I agree, because none of us knew … the guys, no one knew, that that would be the last show, the last tour. So I think we owe it to the fans and to ourselves to just have some kind of goodbye message.”

However, the father of two realizes giving fans another song, another tour or another show is a slippery slope. Fans will just keep asking for more and he’s not sure they could provide it, inevitably leading to another letdown.

“It’s true. It’s true,” Lance admits. “But I think the majority would just appreciate we give them something, but y’know, now with [my] twins, it’d be very hard to get on the road. So I don’t know how that would work.”

It seems like fans will just have to be content with their individual various projects, like Lance‘s podcasts, and TV and movie productions.

But make it rock”: Demi Lovato will re-release new version of “Heart Attack”

Demi Lovato is breathing new life into their hit song “Heart Attack” — but with a headbanging twist.

It’s no secret Demi is embracing their rock roots, so it shouldn’t be all that surprising to fans that their 2013 anthem is getting a harder makeover.

“Heart Attack, but make it Rock,” the singer announced Monday and revealed fans won’t have to wait too long to hear it. In fact, it arrives this Friday, March 24.

Demi also previewed a few seconds of the new, rock version of “Heart Attack” by creating a transition into the track after playing a few seconds of the original hit. Demi also shared a black and white photo that was seemingly taken as they were laying down the song’s vocals at the studio.

To further hype the song, Demi also released an all new “Heart Attack” merchandise collection, which fans can purchase now on their online store. The collection consists of hoodies, tees and tote bags.

“Heart Attack” was released in February 2013, off the singer’s fourth studio album Demi. The song peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the outlet’s Mainstream Top 40 chart.

To date, it has been certified four times Platinum by the RIAA.

Carly Pearce knows exactly where her Grammy trophy is going

Earlier this year, Carly Pearce won her first Grammy award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her duet with Ashley McBryde, “Never Wanted to Be That Girl.” Though the trophy has yet to arrive at her doorstep, Carly already knows exactly where she’s going to put it — and it’s somewhere of sentimental value.

“I have like an area now that has all of my awards,” says Carly, who has also won several CMA, CMT and ACM awards. “And my grandma, when she was little, used to sit around this really old radio from the ’40s that my great-grandfather always listened to. And he loved country music and listened to WSM all the time.”

“And my parents, for my induction into the Grand Ole Opry, they had it refurbished, the radio,” she adds. “So it’s in my house now, and I think that the Grammy is gonna sit right on top of the radio.”

Carly’s single “What He Didn’t Do” is currently number three and ascending the country charts. The singer is also nominated for two CMT Music Awards: Female Video of the Year for “What He Didn’t Do,” and CMT Performance of the Year with LeAnn Rimes and Ashley McBryde for their “One Way Ticket” performance on CMT Crossroads: LeAnn Rimes & Friends.

Will we ever see that Nickelback documentary? “It’s our ‘Chinese Democracy'”

In April 2020, Nickelback teased that they had a documentary in the works that’s “very close to being released.” Nearly three years later, the project continues to be in development. As for whether we’ll get to see the film any time soon, well, that depends on who you ask.

Guitarist Ryan Peake tells ABC Audio that the doc has been “pretty much finished for awhile,” which elicits stifled laughter from frontman Chad Kroeger.

“It’s our Chinese Democracy,” declares bassist Mike Kroeger. Drummer Daniel Adair quips, “We’re gonna have a 10-year anniversary of the beginning of the documentary shoot.”

“It’s the ongoing joke, we laugh about it,” Chad says. “It’s the never-ending documentary.”

“Every four months, we just film more s*** for it,” he continues. “Then that has to get reedited, and then that all gets sent around to everybody … and then four months goes by, and then we just film more stuff. I think we’ve been filming this documentary for six years now. I think we’re six years in.”

If, like Guns N’ Roses‘ Chinese Democracy, Nickelback’s film eventually does see the light of day, Chad declares that it’s “no longer gonna be a documentary.”

“It’s gonna be the story of our lives,” he says.

In the meantime, you can listen to Nickelback’s new album Get Rollin’, featuring the singles “San Quentin” and “Those Days.” Nickelback will launch a U.S. tour in support of Get Rollin’ alongside country star Brantley Gilbert in June.

Tommy Shaw, Billy F. Gibbons & more set for AXS TV’s new series ‘Vinyl Obsession’

Lots of folks seemed to be obsessed with vinyl these days, and that includes plenty of musicians who are about to share their love in a new AXS TV series launching next month.

Vinyl Obsession, the latest addition to the network’s Sunday Night Rocks lineup, follows musicians to Grimey’s Record Shop in Nashville. They’ll talk about their career and influences, and pick out five vinyl albums that have had the most impact on them.

The eight-episode series kicks off April 2 at 8:30 p.m. ET, with STYX’s Tommy Shaw and Headbanger’s Ball host Riki Rachtman. Future episodes feature John Oates, ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Billy Sheehan, The Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine and others.

Also premiering April 2 at 8 p.m. ET is the sixth season of The Top Ten Revealed, with the latest season featuring such rock stars as Alice Cooper, Sebastian Bach, Dee Snider, Lita Ford and John Oates.

And at 9 p.m. ET Sunday Night Rocks will air a variety of classic concerts, kicking off with Nirvana: Live at the Paramount, followed by Journey: Live In Houston 1981 – The Escape Tour, Queen: Live At Wembley and AC/DC: Live At The River Plate Buenos Aires.

‘The Bachelor’ recap: A broken promise leaves Zach’s relationships in jeopardy

It was fantasy suites week on Monday’s episode of The Bachelor and Zach, despite setting firm parameters on intimacy, found his relationships on shaky ground.

Zach made an agreement with each of the remaining ladies ahead of their overnight dates, that they would avoid being intimate with each other so they could better focus on the important questions that needed to be addressed before making a lifetime commitment.

Zach stuck to the plan during his first overnight with Ariel, but when it came to Gabi, temptation got the better of him and ended up going back on his word.

Left with a guilty conscience, Zach decided that, in fairness to the others, he had to come clean with the other women about what happened between him and Gabi. Zach’s plan to be transparent with the others didn’t sit well with her, suggesting that it was a private moment that should be kept between them. She ended up supporting his decision, but in a confessional revealed that she felt “blindsided,” adding, “my trust has been broken.”

Needless to say, when he laid the bombshell on Kaity to start off their date she was “crushed” and seriously considered not showing up for the second half. She ultimately decided to try and move forward and spent the night with Zach in the fantasy suite.

At the rose ceremony, Ariel was sent home, though Gabi and Kaity were both left with serious questions that needed to be answered before accepting a proposal from Zach.

The Bachelor returns with its season 26 finale Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Man looking for deer antlers discovers human skeleton instead

(NEW YORK) — A man made a grisly discovery over the weekend when he discovered a human skeleton while looking for shed deer antlers.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a death investigation after a man who was looking for antlers shed by dear near Humboldt, Kansas — approximately 110 miles east of Wichita — reported the discovery of human remains on his search through the area.

“On Saturday, March 18, at around 5:50 p.m., the Allen County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance with the investigation. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to the scene,” according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. “Upon arrival they found human skeletal remains.”

The person whose remains were discovered has not yet been identified and authorities did not say how long they thought the body could have been there for, though they did confirm that identifying the individual would take longer than normal due to the condition it was discovered in.

“Positive identification is expected to take longer than typical cases due to the condition of the remains,” said the KBI. “Death investigations may be determined to be the result of homicide, suicide, natural causes, or an accident. No threat to the public exists related to this incident.”

An autopsy is scheduled to take place though police did not confirm when. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and made no mention of any possible connected missing persons reports that could be linked to the case.

The KBI is requesting help from the public and anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME or the Allen County Sheriff’s Office at (620) 365-1400.

Miami Beach votes against new curfew restriction after weekend of violence

(MIAMI BEACH, Fla.) — The Miami Beach city commission voted against extending curfew restrictions, a day after the city imposed an overnight curfew for South Beach following multiple fatal shootings.

During a special committee meeting on Monday, the council discussed the curfew for more than an hour, but ultimately decided against extending the city manager’s full state of emergency, which would be from Thursday to Sunday.

“These are very challenging moments,” Mayor Dan Gelber said at the start of the meeting. “Very few cities have to deal with these issues the way that we have to deal with them.”

Two people were fatally shot between Friday and Sunday morning in the area, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

Police responded to emergency calls on Friday night, discovering two men who were shot near 7 Street and Ocean Drive, officials said.

According to Miami Beach Police, one person had been detained and three guns were found at the scene.

On Sunday, police responded to a shooting where they found a wounded man near the 1000 block of Ocean Drive.

The unidentified man was sent to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Miami Beach Police said on Twitter.

The shootings prompted Miami Beach officials to implement a curfew for South Beach starting 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday’s restriction was the third year in a row that city officials implemented a curfew.

Miami Beach issued a curfew last year after multiple people were injured following a series of violent incidents in the area.

“We have been through this scene for several years in a row,” Vice Mayor Steven Meiner said at Monday’s meeting. “It is never gonna be OK for me to see a dead person on our street.”
