Chlöe is single and ready to mingle, but as someone who didn’t attend a brick-and-mortar high school, her relationships have inspired the lyrics to her songs.
“It has been helping the music, because I never went to high school. I was homeschooled for high school,” she says on the premiere episode of Latto‘s 777 radio show. “So, it’s like all the experiences, falling in love, falling out of love, breaking up, making up, all of that, I’m going through it now.”
“So it’s really been motivating the lyrics,” she continued. “And when I’m angry, instead of crying or wanting to throw things, I just sit there and I write, and then I’m like, ‘OK, s***.'”
Fans have already gotten a taste of Chlöe’s music, but will hear an album’s worth of tracks Friday when In Pieces comes out. The project will mark her first solo effort, as previous projects were released under Chloe x Halle, with singer and sister Halle Bailey. As the two launched their careers together, comparisons are something they often face, which Chlöe says “really pisses me off.”
“I think out of everything, that’s the thing that gets under my skin the most when people are comparing us because we are best friends, we’re sisters,” she says. “Sometimes we forget that we’re not twins and it’s like, don’t mess with my blood. Don’t mess with her. Sometimes I just have to brush it off because people only see what they want to make up, what they want to believe. And it’s like, we shouldn’t have to.”
Chlöe said she’s also confused by comments about her transition into womanhood. When it comes to negative social media comments, she generally deals with it, but says there are days when it affects her more than others.
A sharp-eyed photographer managed to get a few shots of the cast of Captain America: New World Order, including Liv Tyler‘s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The scene was apparently being shot at a cemetery in Georgia, one of Marvel Studios’ prime production locations, with Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson standing solemnly at a funeral.
Next to him, also in an Air Force uniform, is actress Xosha Roquemore. One photo in the collection posted by the gossip site Just Jared shows both actors suspiciously eyeing the spoiler-hungry shutterbug.
Tyler’s Betty Ross is seen in the photos as well, wearing mourning black, as is Israeli actress Shira Haas.
For fans, the rumor mill started spinning fast — after all, we don’t know whose burial they’re attending — though Betty’s reappearance hints it could have something to do with her former love interest, Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
While William Hurt, who played Betty’s father Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross onscreen passed away in 2022, it’s not him: Harrison Ford has succeeded Hurt in playing Ross in the forthcoming movie.
The fourth Captain America film, this time with Mackie as Cap, is slated to open May 3, 2024.
“Been a while had to come remind y’all who the GOAT is,” raps G-Eazy on his new track “Tulips & Roses.” The rapper, who took a self-imposed yearlong hiatus, is back with the first release of his new era.
After losing his mom, G-Eazy, born Gerald Gillum, spent time in a rental apartment in Paris, where he penned the new song, described as “an honest and self-reflective account of his life and career.”
“A certified legend/ If I quit at this moment/ Should already know this/ I’m really one of the coldest,” he raps. “So I need all my respect/ I need my tulips n’ roses/ I made my record label fortunes and I met all my quotas.”
The black-and-white cinematic video was filmed in Paris, and shows Gerald leaving a beautiful woman in bed in a hotel room and rapping in front of City of Light landmarks like the Eiffel Tower.
Meanwhile, the woman slips the hotel room key to some shady characters, who ransack the hotel room while the woman and Gerald are out at a cabaret club. The clip ends with the robbers running out of the hotel room at the last minute; it’s meant to be a cliffhanger.
No word yet on whether or not a new album is on the way from the “Me, Myself & I” rapper.
It’s only been two years since Ice Spice first released music, but her career’s taking off. She now represents one of the few mainstream women on the drill scene, to which she says she’s bringing a unique sound.
“I feel like I’m bringing a new sound to people that they haven’t really heard before, being one of the few girls to bring drill to a mainstream level,” Spice tells Harpers Bazaar. “It’s refreshing and fun—I’m really enjoying it.”
So far, Ice has dropped viral hits “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Bikini Bottom,” “Gangsta Boo” ft. Lil Tjay and “In Ha Mood,” all of which appear on Like..? She’s “definitely cooking up right now” when it comes to a full-length, but is happy to see the reaction to her EP.
“The response to my EP has been like a big warm hug from everybody that’s consuming the project,” she says. “I’m so proud of it and how fun it was to make, and I can tell that right now, this is an era I’m always going to cherish.”
For now, Ice will continue to write lyrics of her own, with producer RIOTUSA by her side.
“I’m open to working with writers at some point when the time is right, but right now, I’m sticking to what got me here in the first place,” she says. “That’s me being creative in the studio with Riot. We just cook up bops, we make vibes; I try not to think too hard and just really have fun.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has launched his new podcast, This Little Light.
The series finds Flea interviewing “musical guests from all genres to discuss the teachers who guided them, the influences that inspired them, and how the lessons they learned as young musicians have shaped their creativity, resilience, and careers.”
The first two episodes, which feature conversations with FINNEAS and frequent Peppers producer Rick Rubin, are out now. Future guests include Patti Smith, bass virtuoso Thundercat, country artist Margo Price, and musician and actor Cynthia Erivo.
Meanwhile, Flea and RHCP are back on the road supporting their two 2022 albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. The outing continues Saturday in Las Vegas.

Def Leppard has shared a new director’s cut video for their reimagined version of the 1987 track “Animal.” It will be featured on their upcoming album, Drastic Symphonies, which has the rockers reimagining their classic tracks with the help of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The video features footage of the orchestra recording the tune, along with clips of the band’s live performance and some snippets from the original 1987 video. Many of these clips are superimposed over atmospheric footage of a rundown castle, a group of naked mannequins — some with instruments, and more.
Drastic Symphonies is set to drop on May 19 on CD, two-LP black vinyl, limited two-LP colored vinyl, limited two-LP picture disc, CD/Blu-ray (Atmos) and digitally. It is available for preorder now.

Reeves and Stahelski on location — Lionsgate/Murray Close
John Wick hasn’t fought zombies on screen — yet — but Keanu Reeves did on the set of John Wick: Chapter 4.
The franchise’s director, Chad Stahelski, is a former stuntman — Keanu’s own Matrix stunt double, in fact — and in staffing the film’s fight scenes, he pulled an old trick out of his hat that has served him well in the franchise: He kept resurrecting dudes Wick had already “killed.”
This apparently led to a cheeky wrap gift from Reeves.
An article in the New York Times details the climactic staircase fight near the end of the latest installment and reports Keanu had T-shirts made up for the stunt team, including a personalized body count for how many times each performer had been “killed” during the film.
“Some had more than 20 deaths,” the article notes.
In the supplemental material for a previous installment in the franchise, Stahelski reveals Wick stuntmen sometimes grow out their hair and beards before a shoot, so that after they’ve been killed on camera, they can get a trim between scenes and be recycled as different dudes for Baba Yaga to dispatch.
The Times article dives deep into Wick’s arduous climb up the 222 steps outside France’s Sacré-Coeur Basilica, with fight coordinator Jeremy Marinas saying sarcastically of Stahelski, “You want 100 guys falling down the stairs and you want me to make every reaction and fall different. Of course you do.”
The director says the team was more than game: “You never saw three stunt guys smile faster when we saw those stairs.”
(WASHINGTON) — Russia’s detention of an American journalist is sparking sharp condemnation from the Biden administration and Capitol Hill.
Evan Gershkovich from The Wall Street Journal was detained in Ekaterinburg, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday. The intelligence agency has accused Gershkovich of spying and collecting “state secrets.” The Kremlin took a sharper tone, saying Gershkovich was caught “red-handed.”
Gershkovich has pleaded not guilty.
The American faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. His case is marked “top secret.”
“In the strongest possible terms, we condemn the Kremlin’s continued attempts to intimidate, repress, and punish journalists and civil society voices,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
The White House said Thursday it was in contact with the Wall Street Journal and Gershkovich’s family, and that the State Department has been in touch with the Russian government and is working to secure consular access to Gershkovich.
“The targeting of American citizens by the Russian government is unacceptable,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Both Blinken and Jean-Pierre reiterated guidance that Americans not travel to Russia.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation, White House spokesperson John Kirby said.
Gershkovich covers Russia and Ukraine for the WSJ. The newspaper “vehemently denies” the spying allegations brought against their reporter and is seeking his immediate release.
The U.S. has previously negotiated to secure the release of wrongfully detained Americans abroad. Last year, WNBA star Britney Griner was released in a prisoner exchange with Russia following a monthslong saga after her detention on drug charges.
But Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov downplayed any suggestion of an exchange, saying it’s too early for such talks.
“I wouldn’t raise a question on this now, because you yourself understand that some exchanges that took place in the past took place for people who were already serving sentences,” Ryabkov told reporters.
Gershkovich’s arrest comes amid the worsening relationship between Russia and the United States.
Asked if there were any indication that this was retaliation by Russia, Kirby said he couldn’t say as an investigation is ongoing.
“We do not know right now,” he said. “We are still trying to gain as much information and context as we can. It’s early hours, so I can assure you we’re all working as hard as we can, but we don’t know any more than what I’ve been able to share with you in my opening statements.”
When asked Thursday if he was concerned the reporter’s detention was an escalation on Russia’s part, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said yes.
“Putin plays all these little games with bluffing and brinkmanship and this is another,” Schumer said in a press conference. “To have an innocent journalist held hostage for that is really despicable. I am urging the administration to do everything they can to get him free.”
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, R-Md., responded to Gershkovich’s detention by stating a free press is “absolutely essential.”
“The Russian people need to know the truth, which is why they want to arrest reporters who tell people — they would not be for this carnage that Putin and his dictatorship has affected and the tragedy and war crimes that are being committed,” Hoyer told reporters.
