Marlon Wayans delivers “very emotional” comedy set after learning of death of father, Howell Wayans

There is an old saying “tragedy plus time equals comedy,” but Marlon Wayans had little time to mourn the passing of his father, Wayans family patriarch Howell, before he took the stage Friday night at Flappers comedy club in Burbank, California.

TMZ reports Marlon was between sets when he learned his father had died at 86.

Fans in attendance noted Marlon spoke of his mother’s 2020 passing during his set and acknowledged at the end of the second set that his father had died three hours before he took the stage. The site reports he was “very emotional” and received a standing ovation.

Marlon, about to appear in the drama Air, memorialized his father afterward on Instagram, captioning a photo, “Legend.”

In part, Wayans wrote, “Thank you Pop for being an example of a Man to all your boys. I pray all young black boys can grow up to be a Man like you. Baby boy loves you. And if ever I need you I know exactly where to find you… in my Bible that now sits by bed. Rest well. Kiss Ma for me. Tell her her babies miss her. I got two angels. I feel y’all lifting me already. If there’s a heaven i know you sitting in VIP sippin’ the best wine jesus can make…”

Elvira and Howell had 10 children, including Marlon: In Living Color creator and star Keenan Ivory; actor Damon; Marlon’s Wayans Bros. co-star Shawn; film composer Dwayne; In Living Color player Kim; Nadia; screenwriter Elvira; producer and writer Diedra; and Devonne “Vonnie” Wayans, who is also a screenwriter.

On This Day, April 3, 2015…

Bob Burns, the original drummer for Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died in a car crash near his home in Cartersville, Georgia.

Burns helped to form Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1964 with Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Larry Junstrom, but left the group in 1974.

He is credited on recordings from the group’s first two albums, 1973’s (Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd) and 1974’s Second Helping. That includes such Lynyrd Skynyrd classics as “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Simple Man.”

In 1996, after years out of the public eye, he joined the band for a performance in conjunction with the film Freebird: The Movie. Then, in March of 2006 he returned to perform alongside the band at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Lana Del Rey, Fall Out Boy debut in top 10 on ’Billboard’ 200

Lana Del Rey and Fall Out Boy‘s new albums have debuted in the top 10 of this week’s Billboard 200.

The “Summertime Sadness” artist’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd starts at #3 on the chart with a total of 115,000 equivalent album units, 87,000 of which were traditional album sales. The “Dance, Dance” outfit’s So Much (for) Stardust bows at #6 with 64,000 equivalent album units, 49,000 of which were traditional album sales.

Ocean Blvd is Del Rey’s eighth top-10 album — ninth if you count 2012’s Paradise EP — and Stardust is Fall Out Boy’s seventh.

Fall Out Boy is launching a U.S. tour in support of Stardust in June. The bill will feature artists including Bring Me the Horizon, Alkaline Trio, Royal & the Serpent and New Found Glory on select dates.

Del Rey has yet to announce a full U.S. Ocean Blvd tour, though she’s playing a number of festivals this year, including Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.

Fall Out Boy’s ‘Stardust’ debuts in top 10 on ’Billboard’ 200

Fall Out Boy‘s new album has debuted in the top 10 of this week’s Billboard 200.

The “Dance, Dance” outfit’s So Much (for) Stardust bows at #6 with 64,000 equivalent album units, 49,000 of which were traditional album sales.

Stardust is Fall Out Boy’s seventh top-10 album on the Billboard 200. They’ve hit #1 on the chart four times, with 2007’s Infinity on High, 2013’s Save Rock and Roll, 2015’s American Beauty/American Psycho and 2018’s M A N I A.

Shakira and her kids are moving to find “happiness”: “Today we begin a new chapter”

Shakira has spent the past nine years living in Barcelona, Spain, but now she and her two sons are pulling up roots and moving on, following the end of her 12-year relationship with their father, Gerard Piqué.

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, which we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea,” Shakira wrote in Spanish on Instagram. “Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness.” Shakira’s sons Sasha and Milan are 8 and 10 years old, respectively.

“Thanks to everyone who surfed so many waves with me there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is undoubtedly longer than love,” she continued. “Thanks to everyone who encouraged me there, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow. Thanks to my Spanish audience, who have always sheltered me with their love and loyalty.”

Shakira and Gerard split 10 months ago. E! News reports that she’s going to relocate to Miami, where her mom’s family lives.

Last month, Shakira set 14 marks recognized by the Guinness World Records thanks to the success of her diss track “BZRP Music Session #53,” which she created with Argentine DJ Bizarrap. In the song, Shakira takes down Piqué and his alleged infidelity with Clara Chía, who he’s currently dating. She sings “Good luck with my so-called replacement … I’m worth two 22-year-olds.”

Tears For Fears announce dates for The Tipping Point Tour Part II

Tears For Fears is returning to North America this summer. The band has announced dates for The Tipping Point Tour Part II.

The trek, featuring special guest Cold War Kids, kicks off June 23 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, making stops in New York, Austin, Houston, Denver, Seattle and more, before wrapping August 2 in Los Angeles, California.

Presale tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 4, at 10 a.m. local time, with the general sale set for Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. local time. A complete list of dates can be found at TearsForFears.com.

The tour is named after their most recent album, The Tipping Point, which Tears for Fears released in February 2022. It was their first album of new material in almost 18 years.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ will debut May 18 at the Cannes Film Festival

As was speculated, what Lucasfilm is calling the “highly-anticipated final installment” of the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film starring Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen will screen for the first time May 18.

Oscar nominee James Mangold directed the “big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure,” which will screen out of competition before it opens in theaters June 30.

In the announcement, Mangold noted, “In 1995, I was honored to come to Cannes with my first film as part of [the annual showcase] Director’s Fortnite. Twenty-eight years later, I am proud to return with a slightly larger spectacle. My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!”

Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

Record exec Seymour Stein, who launched the careers of Madonna, Talking Heads & more, dies at 80

Sire Records co-founder Seymour Stein, who was responsible for launching the careers of such artists as Madonna, The Talking Heads, and more, passed away Sunday at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.

Stein co-founded Sire Productions with record producer Richard Gottehrer in 1966, which later became Sire Records. In addition to Madonna and Talking Heads, Stein is known for signing such future stars as the Ramones, the Pretenders, Ice-T and more, along with a slew of new wave acts like Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnyman, and others.

Stein was also vice president of Warner Bros. Records until his retirement in July, 2018. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March of 2005, and was honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016 with the Richmond Hitmaker Award.

Another storm forecast to sweep US with tornadoes, damaging winds, hail

(NEW YORK) — After a weekend of extreme weather across the South and the Midwest regions, yet another major storm is forecast to sweep the United States this week with tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.

There were 59 tornadoes confirmed across 11 states over the weekend, from Arkansas to New Jersey. On Sunday alone, hail bigger than golf balls and winds up to 75 miles per hour hit parts of Texas, bringing down trees and power lines. That same storm will move into Alabama, Georgia and Florida on Monday with damaging winds and possibly tornadoes, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 11 a.m. CT on Monday for parts of southwestern Alabama, the western Florida Panhandle, southeastern Mississippi and nearby coastal waters.

Meanwhile, another massive storm is brewing in the West. As of Monday morning, some 50 million Americans across 19 states were on alert for heavy snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

This new storm is forecast to reach the Heartland late Tuesday, potentially bringing another outbreak of severe weather to the same areas that were hit over the weekend — from Illinois to Arkansas. The latest forecast shows the cities of Davenport, Des Moines, Iowa, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City and Little Rock will be in the bullseye for tornadoes, damaging winds and hail. Areas in Iowa, western Illinois, west of Chicago and northern Missouri could see the worst and strongest tornadoes.

The threat of damaging winds is expected to move into the Ohio Valley, eastern Great Lakes, western New York and Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota, as well as winter storm alerts stretching from the Rocky Mountains to the western Great Lakes. Local snowfall amounts could accumulate to 4 feet in the Rockies and 1 to 2 feet in the northern Plains, along with strong winds of 40 to 60 mph.

Disney+ dropped the trailer for Marvel Studios’ espionage thriller Secret Invasion on Sunday. The series focuses on the shape-shifting Skrulls, who have been infiltrating Earth for years. Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their respective MCU roles as Maria Hill and Nick Fury, along with Ben Mendelsohn — reprising his role as Skrull Talos. Secret Invasion — also starring Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald and Killian Scott — premieres June 21. Variety reports Empire alum Taraji P. Henson is joining the cast of ABC’s Abbott Elementary. She’ll play the mother of Quinta Brunson‘s character, Janine. The casting was revealed during a panel for the show that featured stars Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis in person, with Janelle James and Chris Perfetti appearing via Zoom. Brunson appeared in a pre-taped message. The show also acknowledged Henson’s arrival on the show in a tweet on Saturday. Her character will debut in the April 12 episode, titled “Mom,” airing at 9 p.m. ET…

Sharon Acker, the actress best known for playing Lee Marvin’s unfaithful wife in the 1967 film Point Blank and the right-hand woman Della Street opposite Monte Markham on a 1970s reboot of Perry Mason, died March 16 in a retirement home in her native Toronto, Canada, her daughter Kim Everest, a casting director, told The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday. She was 87. Original Star Trek fans may also remember Acker for her role as Odona, a desperate woman from an overpopulated planet, on the third-season episode “The Mark of Gideon” in 1969.
