Country queen Reba McEntire will take the spotlight as Artist of the Day at the CMA Close Up Stage inside Fan Fair X in celebration of CMA Fest’s 50th anniversary.

Taking place on Friday, June 9 at 10:45 a.m., fans will get an inside look at Reba’s life and multi-faceted career, as told by the “Fancy” singer herself, in person.

“A throwback to my first Fan Fair! [dancing woman emoji] @cma Fan Fair has always been a special event for me and I’m thrilled to share that I will be the Artist of the Day on Friday, June 9 at CMA Close Up Stage inside Fan Fair X!” Reba shared on Instagram, alongside a younger picture of herself.

Reba is one of four artists that will be featured as Artist of the Day on the CMA Close Up Stage. The second artist will be announced next week.

Cardi B celebrates five-year anniversary of debut album

Cardi B‘s debut album, Invasion of Privacy, dropped exactly five years ago, but it’s still making her lots of money. The rapper celebrated the occasion Wednesday with producer J. White Did It, engineer Evan LaRay and other members of her team, who showered her with cupcakes, flowers, a bottle of wine and a cake that read “Happy 5th Anniversary!”

“What my team got me, guys!” Cardi reacts in a video shared to her Instagram Stories. “Yeah! Five years! I’m still getting booked for millions of dollars with one muthaf***** album, b****! Yeah, wassup? Ain’t nobody can tell me nothing.”

Invasion of Privacy dropped April 6, 2018, with 13 songs and multiple features and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The project has since been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA, becoming the first album with all of its song certified Platinum or higher.

“I am shaking”: After meeting backstage, Pink and Jax fan out over each other on Twitter

Recently, Jax posted a video of herself meeting her “childhood hero” Pink at an event, and wrote, “P!NK if you see this, you are such a huge part of why I sing. This was one of the coolest moments of my life.” Pink responded to Jax’s tweet, and now Jax is freaking out.

After Jax posted her initial comment, Pink wrote, “I have been singing along To you EVERY MORNING FOR MONTHS!!!!!!! My daughter [Willow] and i are your background singers and we think you’re AMAZING!!!!!”

When the “Victoria’s Secret” artist saw that Wednesday, she replied, “I am shaking right now. You have no idea how cool this is to read,” and added a crying face emoji. She added, “Please tell Willow I think she’s a rockstar!!!!”

Now, of course, fans are begging for a collaboration between the two. It could happen: Pink’s recent albums have featured a number of duets. Or perhaps Jax and Willow could do something together. Willow can sing, and a lot of Jax’s TikTok feed is devoted to her performing with young girls, including Chelsea, the girl she baby-sits for who inspired “Victoria’s Secret.”

Chlöe says playing Storm has “always been a huge dream of mine”

Halle Bailey may have portrayed a Disney princess, but she isn’t the only one interested in playing an iconic character. Speaking to E! News, Chlöe shares she’s always wanted to play Storm in a Marvel X-Men movie.

“That’s always been a huge dream of mine,” she says. “I’ve always wanted to be a superhero and I would love to do the stunts and the training and everything like that. It would just be a dream come true to be honest. She’s one of my favorites. She is my favorite. I would really, really love that.”

Until then, Chlöe takes on the role of Sam in Praise This, an aspiring singer whose concerned parents move her to Atlanta, where she joins her cousin’s underdog competitive youth gospel choir. She says the best part of the film was being part of a Black cast.

“I think it’s always so great to have proper representation of what our friends and our peer groups look like,” says Chlöe. “That also has a positive message that you can relate to as you watch it.”

Praise This, which also stars Migos‘ Quavo, premieres April 7 on Peacock.

Country stars + more will honor Covenant School shooting victims with A Night of Joy concert

The Nashville music community will come together on Wednesday, April 12, to honor The Covenant School and Covenant Church with a special concert, A Night of Joy Celebrating The Covenant School.

Hosted by author and speaker Annie F. Downs, the event will start at 7 p.m. CT and be held at Belmont University’s The Fisher Center in Nashville. Artists slated to perform include country music’s Carrie Underwood, Lady A, Thomas Rhett, Tyler Hubbard, The War and Treaty, The Warren Brothers, as well as singers and songwriters from the larger Nashville community such as Dave Barnes, Drew Holcomb, Ellie Holcomb, Luke Laird, Natalie Hemby and Christian music’s Chris Tomlin and Matt Maher.

“I’m so honored to be a part of this event, gathering with our city and rallying around a school and community that I love so much,” says Annie.

“Nashville is once again stepping up and using its talents and resources to support the community,” adds Natalie. “After attending the funerals of victims, who were also friends, it will be healing for me to be able to sing songs about hope in a broken world, and to honor the victims, the school, and the first responders.”

All proceeds from this night will go to benefit The Covenant School.

If you missed Michelle Obama‘s The Light We Carry Book tour, you’re in luck.

The final stop of the trek, featuring Oprah Winfrey, is coming to Netflix. The special will see Michelle open up to Oprah about her childhood and time in the White House. She also offers her thoughts on self-confidence, fear, and aging, as well as some advice, and discusses everything from menopause to social issues to romance.

The Light We Carry: Michelle Obama & Oprah Winfrey, a partnership between Netflix, Michelle’s Higher Ground Productions & Jesse Collins Entertainment, premieres April 25.

On This Day, April 6, 2000: Joni Mitchell’s the subject of an all-star tribute in New York City

On This Day, April 6, 2000…

An A-list group of artists paid tribute to Joni Mitchell at a concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Artists who performed at the event included Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, Shawn Colvin, James Taylor and more, with Mitchell also performing, backed by a full orchestra. The concert was filmed and later aired on the cable network TNT.

Mitchell quit touring in 2007 and spent several years off the stage, especially after she suffered a stroke in 2015. But that all changed in June 2022 when she performed alongside Brandi Carlile and a group of friends at the Newport Folk Festival.

And she’s set to take the stage again this June, where she and some of her musical friends will headline one night of Carlile’s Echoes Through the Canyon festival at Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre.

Watch Depeche Mode’s orchestra-accompanied performance on BBC Radio 2

Depeche Mode added some strings to their synths during a recent performance on BBC Radio 2.

For the set, the “Personal Jesus” outfit was accompanied by BBC Concert Orchestra for renditions of the new single “Ghosts Again” and 1993’s “Walking in My Shoes,” as well as a cover of Gordon Lightfoot‘s “Sundown.”

“Ghosts Again” appears on Depeche Mode’s new album Memento Mori, which dropped in March. The record marks Depeche Mode’s first since the 2022 death of member Andy Fletcher.

Depeche Mode is currently on a North American tour in support of Memento Mori, which continues Friday in Toronto.

Hold up — how much does Diddy pay Sting for using “Every Breath You Take” in “I’ll Be Missing You”?

Diddy‘s 1997 number-one hit “I’ll Be Missing You” is based on the 1983 number-one hit “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, written by the band’s frontman, Sting. On Wednesday, Diddy revealed just how much money Sting makes from the use of that sample.

After Diddy sampled “Every Breath You Take” without Sting’s permission, the rocker took legal action, earning a much higher percentage of the song’s royalties than he would have if Diddy had simply asked. As a result, the story goes, Sting makes $730,000 in royalties from the song each year — which works out to two grand per day.

Except it turns out he earns even more than that.

Responding to a tweet of an interview clip in which Sting confirms the $2000-per-day figure, Diddy offers a correction: “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting!”

In the interview clip, Sting says he and Diddy are very good friends: In fact, he even joined Diddy and Faith Evans to perform the song — a tribute to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. — on the 1997 MTV VMAs.

The person who ended up getting a raw deal was Police guitarist Andy Summers. In addition to sampling the melody of “Every Breath You Take,” it also sampled Summers’ iconic guitar part for the song, but since he technically doesn’t have a songwriting credit, he didn’t get any money, and he’s still salty about it, having complained about it in several interviews.

New full moon brings new Peter Gabriel track, “i/o”

Thursday, April 6 marks another full moon, which means Peter Gabriel is once again treating us to another song off his upcoming album i/o, which is expected out sometime this year. The latest single is the Brightside Mix of the album’s title track, which features the Soweto Gospel Choir.

“This month the song is ‘i/o‘ and i/o means input / output. You see it on the back of a lot of electrical equipment and it just triggered some ideas about the stuff we put in and pull out of ourselves, in physical and non-physical ways,” Gabriel shares, noting it got him thinking about “the interconnectedness of everything.”

“The older I get, I probably don’t get any smarter, but I have learned a few things and it makes a lot of sense to me that we are not these independent islands that we like to think we are, that we are part of a whole,” he says. “If we can see ourselves as better connected, still messed up individuals, but as part of a whole, then maybe there’s something to learn?”

Gabriel is set to hit the road in support of i/o next month, with his European and UK tour kicking off May 18 in Krakow, Poland. The tour hits North America starting September 8 in Quebec, Canada. A complete list of dates can be found at petergabriel.com.
