Fresh off the success of “Players,” Coi Leray feels her “hard work is actually finally paying off.” With a goal of becoming an icon like Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott or Queen Latifah, she tells People, “It just feels good to know that everything that me and my team manifested and worked hard for is actually finally showing to the world.”
Coi says she’d promised her label she’d be one of the hardest working and “biggest artists in the world, especially one of the biggest females in hip-hop.” While on that path, she consecutively released two singles, “Bops” and “My Body,” a move she felt would show her versatility.
She says her entire album is “about to be so insane.”
“At the end of the day, I know them numbers matter and people care about the numbers. But I really love music and I really do this s*** for myself,” says Coi. “This isn’t something to just go get clout off and get validation if I’m on the top charts or not.”
“No, I make music because I love making music and it’s something that I enjoy doing, and I wouldn’t want to trade it in for nothing,” she continued. “There’s nothing more that I love than actually just being in that studio and creating and just being the creator.”
Coi’s love and confidence in herself and her music is why she couldn’t care less about critics and body shamers.
“I always told myself like, ‘Yo, I’m a superhero.’ And at the end of the day, no matter what, there’s always a villain in every superhero movie and I’m ready for whatever,” Coi says.
It also helps that Pharrell, who worked on four songs off her album, told her, “You’re a problem. And it’s over … You are it.”
Alt rock veterans Pixies are returning to the road this week for a U.S. tour. The outing marks the group’s first full-length trek stateside in support of their new album, Doggerel, which dropped last September.
Coming off a run through Europe, guitarist Joey Santiago feels that the fresh material has gone over very well in the live setting.
“From my point of view playing live, they absolutely love it,” Santiago tells ABC Audio. “They know the lyrics, and when they don’t, they are into it, they’re very much into it.”
During those shows in Europe, Pixies often played more than 35 songs, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for anything else.
“We don’t do stage banter,” Santiago shares. “[Frontman Black Francis] has been doing some, when it’s comfortable. But we don’t do it just for the hell of it … [Francis] doesn’t like to do it, you know?”
He laughs, “And I don’t wanna do it!”
In addition to plenty of Doggerel songs, you can also expect to hear Pixies classics during the tour, including “Where Is My Mind?”, which, despite never being released as an official single, has become perhaps the band’s defining song and continues to endure in today’s music scene.
“My kids [are] telling me it’s trending on TikTok,” Santiago says. “So, that’s good.”
“It’s become our ‘(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,'” he adds. “I think we should just call it that: ‘Where Is My Mind?’ aka ‘(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.’ We have to play it.”

On Monday, Hollywood stars, designers and fashion insiders gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit in New York City, one of fashion’s biggest nights.
The Met previously announced that the dress code for the benefit will be “In Honor of Karl,” paying tribute to the late famed and often controversial fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February 2019.
The star-studded fundraiser marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring 2023 exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The co-chairs for this year’s star-studded gala include Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel, along with Vogue‘s own Anna Wintour.

Bad Bunny: The rapper rocked an all white custom suit by Jacquemus with a 26-foot train embroidered with white flowers. He accompanied the look with slicked back hair and pearl studs.
Billie Eilish: Billie wore an all black gothic glam ensemble by Simone Rocha. It featured a black corset with an embroidered mesh overlay and halter neckline.
Doja Cat: The “Kiss Me More” singer paid tribute not only to Lagerfeld, but to his beloved white Burmese cat, Choupette, wearing a form-fitting jewel-encrusted Oscar de la Renta sleeveless dress, complete with a cat-eared hood. She also wore a prosthetic feline nose showing her complete commitment to the look.
Dua Lipa: Lipa opted for a Chanel bridal gown that closed the 1995-1996 Chanel runway show. The sleeveless white dress features black and silver trim, which she paired with an over 200 carat diamond necklace.
Jennifer Lopez: The multi-hyphenate fashionista wore a sultry custom Ralph Lauren gown that was a black silk velvet halter on top and a light pink satin skirt on the bottom. She also rocked long black evening gloves with the look.
Kim Petras: As an homage to Lagerfeld’s Chanel era and the classic black and white color palette, the singer wore a short white dress that had two black strips across it. The dress, by Marc Jacobs, was paired with a white and black pair of the designer’s calf height, chunky heel Kiki boots.

Two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Graham Nash is set to talk about his career and more during a conversation with music journalist Anthony DeCurtis at the 92nd Street Y in New York City later this month.
“I’ve talked to Anthony many times in my life and he’s always been very respectful, and me also to him,” Nash shares on social media. “So, we’re gonna have a really nice night. I’m gonna be talking about my book of photographs and my new album that’s coming out and a lot of interesting stuff.”

(NEW YORK) — Federal, state and local officials are searching for two inmates who escaped from a Virginia jail, including a man who’s suspected of being involved in the murder of a North Carolina deputy, according to authorities.
Alder Marin-Sotelo, 26, and Bruce Callahan, 44, escaped “sometime” over the weekend from the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville, which is about 70 miles west of Richmond, according to the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s department said it was notified about the escape around 4 a.m. Monday.
Callahan is convicted of multiple federal drug charges and Marin-Sotelo is convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, the sheriff’s department said. Both are from North Carolina, the department said.
Alder Marin-Sotelo is also a defendant in the murder of deputy Ned Byrd of the Wake County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina, Wake County officials said.
Alder Marin-Sotelo and his brother, Arturo Marin-Sotelo, were indicted on murder charges in the August 2022 slaying and both pleaded not guilty, Raleigh ABC station WTVD-TV reported. Arturo Marin-Sotelo allegedly shot Byrd four times after the deputy stopped to check out a suspicious truck, according to WTVD.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Department, who said the escape took place around 1 a.m. Monday, said, “We are working with our state and federal partners, as well as local authorities in Virginia to ensure all resources are being used to bring the defendant back into custody.”
The U.S. Marshals are leading the manhunt, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
The Marshals later announced a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of Callahan. The FBI is leading the investigation for Marin-Sotelo, according to a press release, and the Marshals are assisting in the case.
Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian singer-songwriter whose hits “Sundown” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” helped to define folk rock, died Monday evening at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto of natural causes, his publicist Victoria Lord confirmed to ABC News. He was 84.
Lightfoot’s rise to fame began in the mid-1960s with folk classics such as “Early Morning Rain” and “For Loving Me.” His first U.S. hit came in 1970 with “If You Could Read My Mind,” which made it to #12 on the Billboard charts. He followed that up with 1974’s “Sundown” — his only song to reach #1 in both Canada and the U.S. — as well as the top 10 “Carefree Highway” that same year. In 1976, he reached #2 with “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
He served as an inspiration for other Canadian songwriters, including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Another admirer was Bob Dylan, who appeared at the 1986 Juno Awards — Canada’s equivalent of the Grammys — to induct Lightfoot into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Lightfoot dealt with several health issues throughout his career. Facial paralysis from Bell’s palsy sidelined him in the early ‘70s, while alcohol abuse led him to quit drinking in 1982. That same year, he experienced an abdominal aortic aneurysm and spent six weeks in a coma. Lightfoot went on to recover and release his final studio album, 2004’s Harmony, recorded before he fell ill.
In 2023, Lightfoot canceled a string of concert dates for unspecified health reasons.
Fellow Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams mourned Lightfoot on Twitter, writing, “Once in a blue moon you get to work and hang out with one of the people you admired when you were growing up. I was lucky enough to say Gordon was my friend and I’m gutted to know he’s gone.”
“The world is a lesser place without him,” he continued. “I know I speak for all Canadians when I say: thank you for the songs Gordon Lightfoot. Bless your sweet songwriting heart, RIP dear friend.”
(HENRYETTA, Okla.) — Seven bodies were found in Henryetta, Oklahoma, on Monday amid a search for two teenage girls who were reported missing over the weekend, according to the sheriff’s office.
Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice told reporters outside the crime scene later in the afternoon Monday that while the medical examiner is still waiting to identify the seven bodies, investigators “are no longer looking” for the two teens.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol had issued an endangered missing person advisory on behalf of the sheriff’s office for 14-year-old Ivy Webster and 16-year-old Brittany Brewer. The missing teens were possibly traveling with an adult, 39-year-old Jesse McFadden, according to the advisory.
“We believe we found the persons, we are just waiting for confirmation,” Rice said.
The sheriff reiterated that the medical examiner hasn’t made any official confirmation.
“We are doing everything that we can just in case something is left open. We don’t want to miss anything,” Rice said.
Investigators said the missing girls were hanging out in the McAlester area and were supposed to return home by 5:00 p.m.
“Our hearts go out to family, friends school mates and everyone else,” Rice said.
