Paul McCartney and John Mellencamp have been added to the 2023 Tribeca Festival, which runs from June 7 to June 18 in New York City. Both artists will take part in the festival’s Storytellers Series as part of the Talks and Reunions lineup.
McCartney will sit for a conversation with ConanO’Brien for a recording of the former talk show host’s podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend. The event will take place June 15 at 6 p.m. at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. The pair will discuss McCartney’s new photo book, 1964: Eyes of the Storm, which is set to drop June 13.
Mellencamp is also scheduled for a conversation: he’ll be chatting with another famous talk show host, David Letterman. The pair’s chat is set to take place June 8 at 6 p.m. at the BMCC.

Warner Bros. Pictures on Tuesday released the first footage for the follow-up to its adaptation of the sci-fi classic Dune, ahead of a full trailer release Wednesday, May 3.
In the snippet, we see someone sticking a device known as a thumper into the sand. The device creates vibrations in the ground and can be used to summon one of the desert planet Arrakis’ feared sandworms.
We also see quick glimpses of all the main characters, including returning stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani and DaveBautista‘s Glossu Rabban; newcomer Florence Pugh‘s Princess Irulan is also there, and sporting a completely shaved head and eyebrows; so is Elvis Oscar nominee Austin Butler as the villainous Feyd-Rautha.
Denis Villeneuve is back to direct the Dune: Part Two, coming to theaters November 3.

She also runs afoul of a squadron of TIE fighters and ends up bringing the battle to Springfield in the latest animated bit of synergy for the streaming platform.

Dierks Bentley has notched his 22nd number-one single on country radio with “Gold.”
Written by Dierks alongside Luke Dick, Ashley Gorley and Ross Copperman, “Gold” is the lead single off his album Gravel & Gold, which arrived in February.
“When we wrote ‘Gold,’ I wanted to write a song that captures the idea of enjoying the journey,” shares Dierks. “The reality is that there are a lot of rocky times that we all go through, but amongst all the tough stuff, when you look for the special moments it can change how you view the world. I know that’s a reminder I need for myself, so the fans and Country radio embracing it means a lot.”

Rihanna arrived fashionably late to the Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, but upon arrival, wowed fans with her look. She donned a white dress that boasted large, structural white flowers on what appeared to be a hooded cape. She noted it took two ateliers to make the gown and 30 hours for each of the flowers.
“Valentino was so gracious enough to give me this look, and God knows how long it took them, but it made it last minute, and we’re here,” she told Access, noting she only attended the event “because I love my dress.”
She says she was going for “Karl Lagerfeld bride” as “that’s what the late designer was known for.”
“That’s what he did at all of his Chanel shows,” said Rih. “The extravagance, the drama. Honey, I live for it.”
Rih attended the Met with partner A$AP Rocky and their bun in the oven. She said it was fun to be at the event with the baby on the way, but admitted she felt guilty that her firstborn wasn’t with her.
When comparing both pregnancies, she told Entertainment Tonight, “It’s so different from the first one! Just everything. All of my… no cravings, tons of nausea, everything’s different. But I’m enjoying it, I’m enjoying it. I feel good. I feel energetic.”
She also dodged the question about her upcoming album, R9.
Billy Joel is among the artists paying tribute to Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, who passed away Monday at the age of 84.
Joel posted a video to Instagram of him performing Lightfoot’s classic “If You Could Read My Mind,” sharing, “So sad to hear of the death of Gordon Lightfoot. He was a lifelong musical hero of mine. His songs were the heart of Canada. R.I. P.”
Joel is one of many famous names to pay tribute to Lightfoot on social media. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeaucalled Lightfoot “one of our greatest singer-songwriters,” noting, “Gordon Lightfoot captured our country’s spirit in his music – and in doing so, he helped shape Canada’s soundscape. May his music continue to inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever.”

After airing for one season exclusively on Disney+, DWTS is returning to ABC for its upcoming season 32, airing this fall.
The reality competition show will make history as the first series to simulcast across both ABC and Disney+, and will be available the next day on Hulu, as well.
Dancing with the Stars originally ran for 30 seasons on ABC before it moved to Disney+ last year for season 31.
Also changing for season 32 is the hosting lineup, as Tyra Banks announced in March she was exiting DWTS after three seasons. Replacing her is Julianne Hough, a two-time Mirrorball champion and former judge.
Hough will co-host with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum and fellow Mirrorball winner Alfonso Ribeiro, who joined the series last season.
It’s still unclear whether anyone will take over for longtime judge Len Goodman, who retired last season after having been with the show since its premiere in 2005.
Goodman died in April at age 78 following a private battle with bone cancer.
Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough are set to return as judges for DWTS season 32.
(WASHINGTON) — The Department of Defense plans to send 1,500 additional active-duty troops to support the security mission along the U.S.-Mexico border for a temporary three-month period, according to a U.S. official, ahead of an expected surge of migrants with the end of Title 42 restrictions on May 11.
They will join 2,500 National Guard members already there on an active-duty status.
Their mission will be to help with ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support.
The move comes after an executive order from President Joe Biden last week that authorized the secretaries of the Department of Homeland Security and DOD “to order to active duty such units and individual members of the Ready Reserve” to better respond to the “the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States posed by international drug trafficking.”
The 1,500 additional troops will be from the active-duty military, not from the National Guard or reserves, at least initially, according to the official.
(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — Preston Hemphill, the white officer seen on body camera footage during Tyre Nichols’ traffic stop, will not be charged in Nichols’ death, according to Hemphill’s attorney.
Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy also announced Tuesday that he will not bring any criminal charges against Hemphill in connection with the case.
Nichols, 29, died three days after he was beaten by officers during a January traffic stop in Memphis.
Hemphill, who was not present at the beating, was fired from the Memphis Police Department in February for violating “multiple department policies” during the incident, the department said.

(WASHINGTON) — Nearly 300 people were arrested as a result of a years-long, three-continent operation targeting darknet trafficking of fentanyl and opioids, the Justice Department and FBI announced Tuesday.
Under “Operation SpecTor,” the “largest ever operation targeting the trafficking of fentanyl and opioids on the dark web,” 288 people were arrested within the last two years, and more than 850 kilograms of drugs — including 64 kilos of fentanyl or fentanyl-laced narcotics — intended to be sold on the darknet were seized, DOJ said.
“Our message to criminals on the dark web is this: You can try to hide in the furthest reaches of the internet, but the Justice Department will find you and hold you accountable for your crimes,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said at a news conference Tuesday.
Law enforcement also seized 117 firearms and $53.4 million in cash and virtual currencies as part of the operation, according to DOJ.
In one case highlighted by DOJ, a Florida man was sentenced to 16 years in prison late last year after it was revealed that he and his co-conspirators had a list of more than 6,000 darknet customers to whom they trafficked fentanyl, heroin and meth.
The Sinaloa cartel, a drug trafficking ring that DOJ has accused of gruesome crimes, and the Jalisco cartel were singled out as particularly harmful to Americans.
“The Sinaloa and Jalisco drug cartels, and the global networks they operate are killing Americans by sending fentanyl into the United States. Their associates distribute this fentanyl into communities across America by every means possible, including the dark web,” said Anne Milgram, administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, adding that the agency “is committed to shutting down the fentanyl supply chain from beginning to end.”
“The availability of dangerous substances like fentanyl on dark net marketplaces is helping to fuel the crisis that has claimed far too many American lives,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a Tuesday statement. “That’s why we will continue to join forces with our law enforcement partners around the globe to attack this problem together.”
In 2021, a record 107,622 Americans died from drug poisoning or overdose, with 66% linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl, the Department of Justice said in a press release last year.
