The jury members for the 83rd annual Peabody Awards have made their picks, and the Star Wars Disney+ series Andor, ABC’s Emmy-winning Abbott Elementary and Apple TV+’s workplace dramedy Severance are among this year’s winners in the Entertainment category.
The organization spotlights “the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media.”
Others included Donald Glover‘s Emmy winner Atlanta, AMC’s Better Call Saul, and HBO’s quirky and mostly Spanish-language comedy series Los Espookys, starring Fred Armisen.
Of Andor, the organization says it “tackles that familiar galaxy with … a keen-eyed commitment to mirroring our own mundane trials and tribulations as it follows scavenger Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), who unwittingly becomes radicalized in the wake of a police state intent on crushing any and all signs of the Rebel Alliance.”
The jury says of Abbott, “The show isn’t content to present funny scenarios absent any social context; Abbott Elementary insists on surfacing the structural issues that make its teachers work so hard.”
Previous “groundbreaking” Peabody winner Atlanta “transcended its original success by introducing an anthology-style structure … allowing the final two installments of Atlanta to display a wealth of creativity and insight.”
All the winners will be celebrated on Sunday, June 11, at a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles — Peabody’s first in-person ceremony since 2019 and the first time the event will be held in LA.

Morgan Wallen has rescheduled six weeks of shows after reinjuring his vocal cords and being put on vocal rest by doctors.
The country superstar took to Instagram on Tuesday, May 9, to share the update with fans.
“I got some bad news from my doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday. After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida and by the third one I felt terrible. So I went in and got scoped yesterday, and they told me that I reinjured my vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma,” Morgan says. “Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
“I also tore my LAT while we were in Australia, I’ve been trying to work through that quietly, but this time off is going to help me get that back right, as well,” he shares. “We are working on rescheduling all the dates during this timeframe. We’ve almost got that done but some of them are pending, so I’ll keep you updated. I won’t be able to make these festivals that I have during this timeframe, but we are going to make those right next year.”
Morgan will not be appearing at the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards or the May 10 ACM Lifting Lives LIVE: Morgan Wallen & Friends event, but urged fans to attend “for a great cause.”
“They told me that if I do this the right way, I’ll get back to 100%, and they also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing, then I’ll permanently damage my voice,” notes Morgan.

CMT has announced that the latest installment of its CMT Crossroads series, CMT Crossroads: The Black Crowes & Darius Rucker, will air on May 16.
The episode will feature Darius and the rock band taking turns performing each other’s hits, which include Darius’ “Wagon Wheel” and “Let Her Cry,” The Black Crowes’ “Hard To Handle,” “She Talks to Angels” and “Remedy,” and Drivin N Cryin’s iconic song “Straight To Hell.”
“I’ve been a fan of The Black Crowes for decades, and I’m grateful that we’ve also become good friends over the years,” shares Darius. “The first time I heard ‘She Talks to Angels,’ I remember being so moved by the lyrics that I went around Columbia, South Carolina asking every single bar to play it. I went home that night and put on Bonnie Raitt’s Home Plate, and decided I was going to try to write ‘She Talks to Angels’ for her. ‘Let Her Cry’ was what poured out of me. These guys have been so impactful on my career and sharing the stage with them was a blast.”
The Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson adds, “It was really cool getting to do Crossroads with Darius. We both come from similar music scenes in the south and we have a shared admiration for a lot of the same music. Darius has such a powerful voice and has written some great songs. I’m glad we finally got to share the stage with our friend!”

Nick Cannon‘s multiple jobs are essential to taking care of his 11 children. In an interview with Los Angeles Times, he revealed he needs to earn at least nine figures to maintain his lifestyle.
“When you think about my lifestyle, I have to generate at least $100 million a year,” Cannon said. He reveals he had children with six women because of their desires to be mothers and the belief that he could manage them all.
“A lot of them are in the same age group,” he said. “And I just wanted to give them what they desired. I kept saying, ‘I can handle it.’” His decisions, however, have resulted in him being “villainized” and called a deadbeat by those who think he can’t be present for all his children.
Nick says he has calendars for each child, brings his kids to meetings and drives them around, focusing on the quality of their dates rather than the amount of time he spends with them.
“It’s not about what I do for you or what I say to you, it’s about how you feel when I’m with you,” he said. “If you feel loved when you see your dad, that’s what’s gonna resonate.”
Nick is father to Moroccan, Monroe, Golden, Powerful Queen, Zion, Zillion, Legendary, Onyx, Rise, Beautiful and Halo; his son Zen passed away from brain cancer at five months old. The actor was recently criticized for struggling to remember all their names, but his ex-wife and mother of their 12-year-old twins, Mariah Carey, often checks on his well-being.
“She’s high frequency. She always asks me, ‘You aight? How you doin’?’ he said in an upcoming episode of The Jason Lee Show. “When we talk daily, she’s just checking in on my spirit.”
The Black Crowes teamed up with Darius Rucker for a performance of “She Talks To Angels” on the CMT Music Awards last month, but that was only the beginning of their collaboration. The artists came together again to film an episode of CMT Crossroads, which is set to debut May 16.
The episode will feature the artists teaming up for performances of each other’s songs, including Crowe classics “She Talks to Angels,” “Hard to Handle” and “Remedy.” Darius hits will include “Wagon Wheel,” and the Hootie & The Blowfish classic “Let Her Cry.” They’ll also team up for Drivin N Cryin’s iconic song “Straight To Hell.”

Bachelor in Paradise alums Brandon Jones and Serene Russell have ended their engagement.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, May 8, the pair, who met and got engaged during season 8 of the dating show, made a joint post announcing the end of their relationship.
“After many months, today we have ultimately decided to end our engagement,” they captioned the post. “We have tried to work privately on our relationship which has been incredibly challenging in the public eye. This has been immensely hard to accept and painful, as there is a lot of love between the two of us.”
They added, “We are deeply hurting and can only ask that there be no hate. The best path for us at this time is to try and move forward and heal from this as individuals.”
Included in the post were several photos and videos of Brandon and Serene’s time together.
The break up news comes six months after their engagement aired during the Bachelor in Paradise season 8 finale.

(NEW YORK) — Paul Whelan, a former American Marine who has been detained in Russia since 2018, recently had a visit in prison with U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy, who said on Twitter that securing Whelan’s release “remains an absolute priority.”
The visit came weeks after Whelan told his parents in a phone call that he felt “abandoned” and “rattled like never before” in the wake of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich’s arrest, Whelan’s brother David previously told ABC News.
Both Whelan and Gershkovich have been accused of espionage, which both have denied and the U.S. government considers them wrongfully detained.
In a new interview with ABC News’ Linsey Davis, David Whelan spoke about the details of Tracy’s visit and concerns that his brother’s case is “beginning to languish.”
LINSEY DAVIS: David, thanks so much for joining us once again. Just last week, the U.S. ambassador to Russia, Lynn Tracy, was able to meet with your brother at the prison camp where he’s being held. Tell us what you’ve learned from that meeting.
DAVID WHELAN: It sounds like they were able to speak for about 90 minutes, and I think it was a frank discussion. Paul is very appreciative every time a U.S. ambassador comes out to the prison or even consular staff. But this is the second time that a U.S. ambassador has come out to visit him and he values that, and he understands the risk that the ambassador took to come and see him and appreciated that she came to give him a personal message about the efforts that are going on back here in Washington, D.C..
DAVIS: And was she able to report back to you as far as his health, his overall well-being, state of mind?
WHELAN: We heard from Paul. He was able to speak to our parents, and it sounds like he’s stabilized since Mr. Gershkovich’s arrest. I think he is back to focusing on getting through each day, surviving as best he can and hoping that the U.S. government will be able to secure his release.
DAVIS: Your sister also appeared last month at the United Nations Security Council to call for Paul’s release. She got to look Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov directly in the eye. How significant was that moment?
WHELAN: I think that was really important. Elizabeth has done a lot of lobbying of the government. I think even from just trying to get the State Department’s attention four years ago, to be able to now have gotten to the U.N. Security Council and to have been able to make an address there. It’s really valuable, and I think Paul appreciated that really, we are not leaving any stone unturned to try and advocate for him and bring him home.
DAVIS: There’s been talk about a possible deal to get your brother home, a swap that could also include Evan Gershkovich. Is there calls for some optimism in those negotiations?
WHELAN: I don’t think so, not at the moment. We know that Secretary Blinken has spoken about an offer that was made, but it has been sitting there now for four or five months and the Kremlin doesn’t seem that interested in whatever the concession is. So either the US government is going to continue to wait, which means that Paul has to continue to sit in a labor camp for who knows how long or they will come up with other creative strategies. I hope that they’ll come up with creative strategies, and I hope that they’ll come up with something else that will bring Paul home.
DAVIS: President Biden also mentioned Paul at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Are you seeing any meaningful shift in urgency surrounding Paul’s case or do you still have the same concerns about his case languishing?
WHELAN: Oh, absolutely. It was great to see President Biden speak out. We appreciate all of the verbal sentiment of support from the White House, from President Biden, from secretary of state, and so on. But it doesn’t mean that there’s anything moving in Paul’s case at this moment. And I think we do worry that it is beginning to languish. It is getting to that point where in many other wrongful detention cases, like Mark Swidan and Kai Li in China, Siamak Namazi and Emad Shargi in Iran, there comes a time after which the U.S. government isn’t really very effective at bringing people home.
DAVIS: We still continue to hold out hope nonetheless. David, we thank you once again for coming on the show. We’ll of course continue to check in with you and your brother’s case.
