You may refer to Usher and E-40 as musicians, but now, you can also call them doctors. The stars received their honorary doctorate degrees last weekend and shared the news on social media to celebrate their accomplishments with fans.

Usher was honored at the Berklee College of Music for his “invaluable contributions” to the worlds of music and philanthropy.

“My goal as an artist has always been to inspire people to make a positive impact through my music, to make you feel something, and last night I felt proud … of the legacy that has been built and that we’re building together as artists,” Usher said in his speech, before encouraging the graduating class to “break the barriers” and “make great things” out of all they learned at Berklee.

The singer then took to Instagram to thank the college “for honoring me and presenting me with a Doctor of Music degree.”

He continued, “I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share a message to the next generation of artists, producers, vocalists, arrangers, dancers and more.”

Usher also noted fans can “call me D-o-c-t-o-r-R-a-y-m-o-n-d,” a nod to the lyrics in his song “Nice & Slow,” in which he spells out his name, Usher Raymond, to the beat.

E-40 received his doctorate of music degree from his alma mater, Grambling University, where he encouraged graduates to “pursue their passions and achieve their dreams,” according to Vibe.

“I came a long way thank you @grambling1901 & congratulations to the graduating class of 2023,” E-40 later wrote on Instagram. The caption accompanied a recap of his time at the university’s 2023 commencement ceremonies.

It seems as though more proof that those rumors about Taylor Swift and Matty Healy are true emerges every day.

The latest? The 1975 singer was spotted sitting in a VIP box with Taylor’s father, Scott, during her show in Philadelphia over the weekend. Numerous fans posted video or photos capturing the two together on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

All in all, fans have counted Matty attending six Taylor concerts in a row, but he’s not always a bystander: He has joined his pal Phoebe Bridgers several times during her opening set.

At Sunday night’s show, Taylor played her Fearless song “Hey Stephen” as a request, but didn’t mention who had requested it. But of course, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that Matty seems to have a particular fondness for that song — he posted it to his Instagram Story last October.

One fan made a whole TikTok describing her interaction with Matty at one of the concerts, in which she claimed to have asked him, “Blink twice if you and Taylor are dating.” She claims he did so. When she asked, “What? You are?” she claims he nodded.

The Pointer Sisters music is the latest to be sold off.

Billboard reports BMG has made a deal to acquire the rights to the original masters of albums the R&B group made from 1978 to 1988. That’s nine albums in total and includes rights to hits like “I’m So Excited,” “Jump (For My Love),” “Automatic” and more.

William Briggs II, the family’s attorney, released a statement on behalf of Anita Pointer’s estate, noting she “would have been pleased” that the group’s legacy will “live on long past her.” Anita passed away in December and her sister June died in 2006, with Ruth Pointer the last surviving original member of the group.

Thomas Scherer, BMG president of repertoire & marketing New York and Los Angeles, says they are “so excited” to be able to work with the Pointer Sisters’ catalog, noting there are plans to explore things like book deals, possibly a documentary and even an exhibition of the sisters’ performance outfits.

BMG has already acquired the publishing rights of several artists, including Fleetwood Mac’s Mick FleetwoodTina Turner and Peter Frampton.
