(NEW YORK) —
A federal judge on Monday set a tentative date for the trial of the U.S. Army special forces soldier who is charged with using classified information about the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to make more than $400,000 on the prediction market Polymarket.

The criminal trial of Master Sgt. Gannon Ken Van Dyke is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 7.

Van Dyke pleaded not guilty in April after prosecutors alleged he used inside information to place 13 bets on the outcome of the Maduro raid then attempted to destroy evidence of the trades after he pocketed more than $400,000.

The case would be the first U.S. prosecution of insider trading on a prediction market to go to trial.

Prosecutors on Monday estimated their case would take about one week, and defense lawyers said they plan to put on a brief case that would take a “couple of days.”

Defense lawyers said they plan to file a motion to dismiss the indictment by July 31.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos argued in court that the prosecution would be derailed by the classified information at the center of the case. To convict Van Dyke, he argued, prosecutors would need to prove “who was in the Situation Room at that time and who made the decision” to capture Maduro.

Van Dyke, who sat at the defense table during Monday’s proceedings, did not speak.

During Van Dyke’s arraignment in April, his defense attorney said he expected few factual disputes over the allegations in the case and believed that the prosecution would “largely rise and fall” on pre-trial motions.

Van Dyke, an experienced special forces soldier, was released on a $250,000 personal recognizance bond following his April arraignment. According to his attorney Zach Intrater, he is currently on leave from the Army.

Allegations of insider trading have prompted public scrutiny of prediction market sites like Polymarket and Kalshi. Prosecutors in New York last month charged a Google employee with using confidential company information to make more than $1.2 million on Polymarket.

Ridley Scott and Hugh Jackman are taking on an adaptation of a classic novel.

Scott is set to direct Jackman in a new film adaptation of Treasure Island, ABC Audio has confirmed. Jackman will play the pirate Long John Silver in this new take on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel.

According to Deadline, Adolescence writer Jack Thorne wrote the film’s script and will executive produce. Scott will also produce the film alongside Michael Pruss for the production company Scott Free.

There is currently no studio attached to the project, but it is set to hit the market on Monday, the outlet reports.

Treasure Island follows a young boy who discovers a map to a legendary buried treasure. He sets out on a journey across the sea to find the fortune, all the while finding himself in a battle of wits with the pirate Long John Silver.

This upcoming adaptation is described as a new take on Stevenson’s classic, which was originally published in 1883.

In the new article, the “Tipsy (A Bar Song)” hitmaker reveals the inspiration for his new album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, which comes out July 31.

“It’s a revisionist Western challenging the norms of what you see in Westerns. It’s about this woman wanting to get revenge against a group of people who, honestly, are trying to do what they feel is right. A group of people who have been discarded and are just looking to survive, looking to fight back,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I was thinking about my past relationships with people I loved, and getting backstabbed, and still loving the person that backstabbed you. It all went into this project.”

The second new tune from the record, “Cowgirl,” came out on Friday.

Shaboozey launches his Outlaws Never Die Tour Sept. 8 in Phoenix.

Bob Dylan launched the latest leg of his North American tour last week, and he’s been adding some deep cuts to his set.

During his Saturday show at Chateau St. Michelle Winery Amphitheatre in Woodinville, Washington, Dylan opened the show with a performance of “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” from 1975’s The Basement Tapes. It was the first time he’s performed the track live since November 2012, according to setlist.fm.

But that wasn’t the only time he dug deep into his catalog for his set. During opening night in Troutdale, Oregon, on June 4, Dylan performed “Baby, Won’t You Be My Baby,” a track from 2014’s compilation The Bootleg Series Vol. 11: The Basement Tapes Complete. It was the first time he’s ever performed the song live.

Dylan is set to play Eugene, Oregon, on Tuesday, and has dates confirmed through Aug. 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. A complete list of dates can be found at BobDylan.com.

(NEW YORK) — The Las Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes are in the midst of a baby boom as they battle for the Stanley Cup title, according to the NHL.

Several of the Golden Knights and Canes players are either expecting fathers or have recently welcomed babies with their partners.

They include the Golden Knights’ Noah Hanifin, Mark Stone, Nic Dowd, Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore.

Hanifin, the 29-year-old Golden Knights defenseman, told the NHL that he and his wife, Monique Hanifin, are “excited” about the imminent arrival of their second child.

“We have an 11-month-old now, so I’m a little nervous about having two under 1, that’s for sure,” he said. “But no, I’m excited. With the games going on right now obviously it’s close, but we’ll see what happens. It’s kind of out of our control.”

On the Hurricanes front, K’Andre Miller, Sean Walker and Jalen Chatfield all are dads to babies born during this postseason.

According to the NHL, Miller and his girlfriend, Addison, welcomed son Kashton back on May 2, on the same day the Canes took on the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Second Round, which saw Miller take to the ice.

Just a few days later, teammate Walker and his wife, Taylor Walker, said hello to their baby daughter Quinn, ahead of Game 4 in that series on May 9.

Walker reflected on the close coincidence on the NHL’s “The Rink” podcast.

“We were both like, ‘What’s going on? This is crazy,'” Walker said. “We were just hoping it wasn’t going to line up on the same night. Again, what are the chances that it worked out perfectly? No one had to miss a game. Everyone was able to get where they had to be. Quite a whirlwind.”

The Golden Knights and Hurricanes face off again Tuesday in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup in Las Vegas.

The Vegas team looks to advance their 2-1 lead while the North Carolina team looks to tie up the best-of-seven game series.

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup airs June 9 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

ABC News has reached out to the Golden Knights and the Hurricanes for comment.

Production has officially started on the Beach Read film adaptation.

Director Yulin Kuang made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. The photo features stars Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger in costume and on the set of the film.

“a crumb of bts from the BEACH READ camera test for you, dear reader .. can’t wait to show what we’ve been cooking up,” Kuang captioned her post.

Kuang also announced the film’s release date, which will be May 7, 2027.

“filming has officially commenced,” she wrote. “see you only in theaters on May 7, 2027.”

Beach Read follows the character January Andrews, a romance novelist who struggles with writer’s block due to her grief after the death of her father and her discovery of the secrets he kept.

January spends the summer at her father’s Michigan beach house as she prepares to sell it. While there, she reconnects with Gus Everett, a fellow author and her formal college rival. The pair spark an unexpected romance after they agree to partake in a writing challenge to get them out of their respective writing ruts.

Joining Dynevor and Schwarzenegger as part of the film’s cast are Andie MacDowell, Kevin Bacon, Kristin Davis and Tig Notaro. Kuang, who co-wrote the Netflix film adaptation of author Emily Henry’s novel People We Meet on Vacation, directs Beach Read for 20th Century Studios from her own script.

This is the latest adaptation of one Henry’s works, following the release of People We Meet on Vacation in January. Three of her other novels — Book Lovers, Funny Story and Happy Place — are also currently being adapted for the screen.
