LSU responds to Cardi B’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” lyric

In Latto’s new song “Put It On Da Floor Again,” Cardi B raps, “I been ballin’ so damn hard, could’ve went to LSU.” It seems the college got wind of the lyric, as they’ve responded with a tweet that seemingly extends an offer to the rapper.

“ok @iamcardib we’re ready for you,” LSU’s women’s basketball team wrote alongside a photo of Cardi in their Tigers jersey. The photo included the aforementioned lyric, while the video for the actual track features a cameo from LSU basketball star Angel Reese.

Cardi’s mainstream status is what she’s worked hard for, but she admits that “sometimes having everything GETS BORING.”

When responding to a fan who questioned why she’s “posing with guns” in the video and trying to relive her days in the hood, Cardi responded, “I was tearing the other day Cause I miss my old life…”

“But I won’t complain it’s not about me anymore,” she continued. “This is part of growing up and bout my kids…but yea PUT IT ON THE FLOOR!!!”

Cage the Elephant’s Matt Shultz pleads guilty to gun charges

Cage the Elephant frontman Matt Shultz has pleaded guilty to gun charges stemming from his arrest last January after two loaded guns were found in his New York City hotel room.

The charges include felony counts of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm, as well as a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

As part of the plea, Shultz must go a year without any new arrests, after which he’ll be allowed to withdraw his plea for the two felony counts, and serve one-year conditional discharge for the misdemeanor account.

If he violates those terms, Shultz could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison for the felony charges.

ABC Audio has reached out to Cage the Elephant’s rep for comment.

Shultz is a founding member of Cage the Elephant alongside his brother, guitarist Brad Shultz. The group’s most recent album is 2019’s Grammy-winning Social Cues.

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre postpone ‘Doggstyle’ anniversary show in solidarity with the WGA strike

Snoop Dogg continues to stand in solidarity with those on the front lines of the WGA strike. In his latest act of support, he announced he’s postponing the anniversary shows intended to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Doggystyle.

“Hollywood Bowl, June 26, 27, we gotta move that date,” he said in a video shared to his Instagram. “Me and Dr. Dre, we stand in solidarity with the writers, so what we gon’ do, we gonna push it back to October 20 and October 21.” In the caption, he added that they’re hopeful “the AMPTP will negotiate fair deals as soon as possible and everybody can get back to work.”

Snoop previously voiced his understanding of the writers gripes, noting, “[Artists] need to figure it out the same way the writers are figuring it out.”

“The writers are striking because [of] streaming, they can’t get paid,” he told Variety’s executive music editor, Shirley Halperin, and Gamma’s Larry Jackson. “Because when it’s on the platform, it’s not like in the box office.”

Drew Parker‘s Warner Music Nashville debut EP, At The End Of The Dirt Road, has arrived. The six-song set includes “King of Country Music,” a tender duet he shares with his wife, Mallory Hope.

Austin Burke has dropped a new song, “More Like Her.” The midtempo track serves as the first-time father’s love letter to his unborn child, who’s due this fall.

Juvenile questions why he’s excluded from Essence Festival’s 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebration

Juvenile feels slighted because of his exclusion from Essence Festival’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. After coming across flyers for the night-by-night lineup, he took to Twitter and asked, “How is essence doing 50 years of hip hop in New Orleans without me???”

The former Cash Money star took the opportunity to lure his real fans to another festival taking place the same weekend, one he will indeed be part of.

He wrote, “F that Donna Fest July 2nd me w my live band + Mannie Fresh +Rebirth & more & the best food venders new orleans has to offer i should know im from here! Our [tickets] are just $25!”

If Juvenile had been included in Essence‘s lineup, he’d likely be part of the segment titled “The South Got Something to Say,” but as he told a fan, the organizers “did not understand the assignment.”

That segment currently only includes artists from Atlanta representing the South, including Jermaine Dupri, Big Boi, Lil Jon, Ludacris, T.I. and Gucci Mane. Ice Cube, E-40 and Lady of Rage are among those who will be representing the West Coast.

Essence Festival takes place June 30-July 3 in Juvenile’s hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. Megan Thee Stallion, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott are headlining.

Guitar once owned by Jimmy Page up for sale

Led Zeppelin fans now have a chance to get their hands on a guitar that was once owned by none other than Jimmy Page.

ATB Guitars is selling the 1969 Gibson Firebird III, which was purchased by Page from Mike Ladd’s Guitar City in Memphis. The listing claims Page lost it to drummer John Bonham in a game of spoof; in 1978 Bonham gave it to his business partner, who kept it for 45 years and is now selling it.

It’s unknown whether Page used the guitar for any recordings. ATB does note that it has been refinished in black, and while they don’t see that any repairs have been made to it, the paint job “could be hiding something.”

As for the price tag, ATB is currently asking for over $78,000 for the axe.

Dylan Scott’s new song is a hat tip to his hometown

Dylan Scott has dropped a new song, “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us.”

The midtempo track was composed by Dylan, Ashley Gorley, Ryan Vojtesak, John Byron and Taylor Phillips, and serves as Dylan’s tribute to his hometown of Bastrop, Louisiana.

“Yeah, we sure painted it up/ Tore down them old two-lane roads/ We either stole every sign or left ’em in bullet holes/ It wasn’t nowhere as bad as we all said that it was/ Yeah, looking back at it now this town’s been too good to us,” Dylan sings in the chorus.

Earlier this week, the “My Girl” hitmaker announced his This Town’s Been Too Good To Us Tour with openers Matt Schuster and Tayler Holder. Visit Dylan’s website for the tour dates and tickets.

Dylan’s latest single, “Can’t Have Mine,” is currently in the top 30 on the country charts.

Chris Messina on ‘The Boogeyman’ film’s focus on family

In a major deviation from the Stephen King short story of the same name, much of the new movie The Boogeyman focuses on the effect the titular monster is having on the two grieving daughters of Will Sawyer, a therapist who recently became a widower.

In fact, the original story doesn’t include the characters on which the movie focuses: Sophie Thatcher‘s teen Sadie and her younger sister, Sawyer, played by Vivien Lyra Blair.

Chris Messina, who plays Will Thatcher, tells ABC Audio that adding them was a good move by screenwriters Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Mark Heyman.

“Yeah, I thought it was super smart,” the Air actor says. “Because obviously you could take that short and do many different things, and the fact that they did what they did, I thought really worked.”

Having the supernatural presence preying on his character, as well as his young daughters, helps sell the scares, according to director Rob Savage.

Messina explains the filmmaker really wanted the trio to bond before the cameras rolled. “We had, I think about a two-week rehearsal process where we got to hang out. We went to the aquarium, we went bowling, we ate pizza. By the time we got this set, we were really a tight-knit group. We were our own little family and we had so much trust in each other.”

Like a proud dad, he calls his onscreen kids “awesome,” adding, “I mean, they’re great actresses, really kind souls.”

The Boogeyman is now in theaters.

A slew of new music has dropped, and of course, New Music Friday has your back. Here’s a list of some of the latest in the culture.

MoneyBagg Yo, Hard to Love — Initially delayed to let Taylor Swift‘s Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) breathe, the project is finally here. It has 20 tracks, with features from Future, Fridayy, Lil Durk, GloRilla and more.

Metro Boomin, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — The star-studded soundtrack is “guided by what the team thinks [character] Miles listens to,” said Chris Miller, co-writer of the Spider-Man film. “If anybody is going to make something that feels like it’s Miles’ experience, [Metro Boomin] knows what he’s doing.”

The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Madonna,”Popular” — The song is the latest single released from The Idol Vol. 1 album.

Gunna, “Bread & Butter” — In his first single and video since being released from jail, Gunna addresses snitching allegations, among other things. “Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on ’em,” he raps.

Kid Cudi, “Porsche Topless” — “Imagine ur floating high up in the bright blue sky on a nice warm summers day,” he tweeted when telling a fan how to best prepare for the new song. He produced the track alongside BNYX and Jean Baptiste.

French Montana, Kodak Black, “I Can’t Lie” — The rappers reunite on the track, which is produced by London on da Track. It’s set to appear on the soundtrack for French’s documentary For Khadija.

Latto, Cardi B, “Put It On Da Floor Again” — The stars “put it all on da floor” in the video, which sees cameos from Offset and LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese.

Lil Uzi Vert, Bring Me the Horizon, Daryl Palumbo, “AmEN!” — Uzi raps on the song, which debuted June 1 at the band’s show in Budapest.

Music notes: Frank Ocean, Drake, Travis Scott and more

Many know of Frank Ocean‘s musical genius, but his latest project gives fans a glimpse of his work as a photographer. Mutations, a 48-page booklet, is a “retrospective of artwork from October 19 to December 22, 2022” that features photos Ocean took. The book is printed on tissue-weight paper and retails for $75.

With the NBA Finals underway, Drake has his money on the Denver Nuggets. He bet $1 million that the team would win the series against the Miami Heat and $250,000 that they’d win 4-1.

Travis Scott recently joined SZA on her SOS tour to perform “Love Galore” for their fans in Amsterdam. “Can’t nobody tell me s*** about this human,” she later wrote on Instagram. “Bro showed up for me all the way in Amsterdam. THANK YOU.”

Blueface recruited four pregnant women for a music video shoot and paid them on the spot for their services. Each woman received $1,500 in hundred-dollar bills, per XXL.

TLC‘s Chilli reveals she and ex-boyfriend Usher had “working chemistry,” but notes they were “so different.” After years of struggling to get over their breakup, she tells People she cut him off “to focus on myself.” She now hopes to get married to boyfriend Matthew Lawrence.

Grandmaster Flash received an honorary doctorate in music at Lehman College’s commencement ceremony Thursday. He credited the Bronx for making him who he is and encouraged the graduating class to embrace making mistakes.
