Method Man salutes hip-hop while performing at White House’s inaugural Juneteenth concert

Method Man represented hip-hop at the Juneteenth concert on the White House’s South Lawn Tuesday, June 13. He performed at the inaugural event, and shared some words about the federal holiday and its ties to the genre, which is celebrating its milestone 50th year.

“During Black Music Month, the concert is a fitting way to recognize Juneteenth and express this part of our shared American history,” Meth said, per a video that made its way to TikTok. “For it is through music that African Americans found community and sought solace. Music has the power to uplift us, to enrich our minds and nourish the souls. From spirituals to gospel, R&B, jazz, rock, soul, and yes y’all, 50 years of hip-hop, ya heard?! Each generation of Black musicians, artists and thought leaders have channeled the struggles of their lifetime into the American soundtrack.”

Method Man was one of many tapped to perform at the Juneteenth concert. Also on the lineup were Jennifer Hudson, Audra McDonald, Ledisi, and marching bands from historically Black colleges and universities like Morgan State University and Hampton University.

The event came two years after President Joe Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday. He said the decision to do so was more than a symbolic gesture.

“It was a statement of fact for this country to acknowledge the origin of the original sin of slavery, to understand the war was never fought over it,” he said. “It, it wasn’t just about a union, but it was most fundamentally about the country and freedom.”

Method Man’s Wu-Tang Clan will also celebrate hip-hop’s 50th at a concert taking place September 15 at Madison Square Garden.

Harrison Ford on getting older and seeing Indiana Jones “rally for one last adventure”

As Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford once said, “It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.”

Considering a new interview, it’s not surprising that that was an ad-lib. In short, Ford isn’t letting age get in the way.

The actor, 80, who will return as the legendary hero archaeologist in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, said in an interview with People that he enjoys “making movies more now than I ever did.”

“I saw a lot of great actors having fun, so I thought, ‘Hey, I want some of this!'” he said.

Along with Dial of Destiny, Ford has starred in several shows recently, including Shrinking and 1923.

When it comes to his age, Ford says he embraces the idea of getting older.

“I don’t want to be young again,” he said. “I was young, and now I enjoy being old.”

“You are certainly physically diminished by age, but there are wonderful things about age — richness of experience, the full weight of all the time you’ve been spending getting to being old — and there’s a certain ease in it for me,” he added.

With Dial of Destiny out in theaters soon, Ford also reflected on why he wanted to return as Indiana Jones for the franchise’s fifth installment.

“I just wanted to see him rally for one last adventure,” he said.

A synopsis for the film says the movie will follow Indiana Jones as he races against time to retrieve a legendary artifact that can change the course of destiny.

Ford stars alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Shaunette Renée Wilson in the film.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in theaters on June 30 from Lucasfilm, which is a subsidiary of ABC News’ parent company, Disney.

Hatebreed announces 20th anniversary ’The Rise of Brutality’ tour

Hatebreed has announced a North American tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band’s 2003 album, The Rise of Brutality.

The headlining outing launches September 3 in Canada’s Quebec City and wraps up September 24 in Tampa, Florida.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the release of The Rise of Brutality album,” says frontman Jamey Jasta. “These songs are always fun to play and we’re looking forward to adding some of them to the set that we’ve previously either never or rarely played live.”

BTS solo documentaries coming to the big screen

BTS may still technically be on hiatus, but there’s plenty of them to go around.

SUGA and j-hope‘s solo documentaries are both coming to theaters Saturday, June 17. Fans will be able to catch j-hope IN THE BOX and SUGA: Road to D-Day on the big screen in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.

Dylan Scott’s soaking up summer with his kids

There’s nothing quite like kicking it back on a summer night, right?

That’s exactly what Dylan Scott did recently with his kids, Beckett and Finley. In a video shared on Twitter, Dylan’s seen smiling in his driveway as he watches Beckett shoot hoops and Finley making funny faces in front of the camera while on her bicycle.

“Summer nights are the BEST!!!” Dylan tweeted. The clip also features his latest song, “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us,” playing in the background.

Dylan’s set to play various fairs and festivals this summer, before kicking off his headlining This Town’s Been Too Good To Us Tour this fall.

Imagine Dragons’ “Thunder” video crosses 2 billion YouTube views

When Dan Reynolds sang that he was “scheming for the masses” on Imagine Dragons‘ hit “Thunder,” clearly he wasn’t kidding.

The video for the 2017 Evolve single has officially crossed 2 billion views on YouTube. The black-and-white clip was filmed in Dubai and follows a trio of alien-like contortionists.

Imagine Dragons now has two videos with 2 billion YouTube views, with “Thunder” joining “Believer.” Two other ID clips, “Radioactive” and “Demons,” have over 1 billion views.

All four of those songs are also members of the RIAA Diamond club, having all been certified for 10 million units. Imagine Dragons is the first band with four Diamond-certified singles.

The Turtles’ Mark Volman reveals Lewy body dementia diagnosis

The Turtles singer Mark Volman is getting ready to release his new memoir, Happy Together, on June 20. He reveals in the book that back in 2020 he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, the same disease comedian Robin Williams had.

“I remember slurring, and I wasn’t sure what was going on,” Volman tells People of the first symptoms he experienced. “My brain wandered. I’d go off track. It made no sense.”

People who live with LBD can experience hallucinations, and Volman says his included seeing Civil War soldiers outside his house, and faces in the furniture and appliances. He also experiences tremors.

While the life expectancy is typically about eight years following diagnosis, Volman isn’t letting it slow him down and is even taking part in The Turtles’ annual Happy Together music fest. He says he’ll travel by bus for the tour, noting, “it’s the safest place for me to be. I can’t get lost or hurt.”

LBD can be debilitating, and even led Williams to take his own life in 2014, but Volman, who manages his condition with medications and exercise, isn’t ready to give up.

“I got hit by the knowledge that this was going to create a whole new part of my life. And I said, ‘Okay, whatever’s going to happen will happen, but I’ll go as far as I can,’” he says. “The challenges of this world affect everybody, and it’s been kind of fun being on the other side of a challenge like this and saying, ‘I feel good.’”

He adds, “My friends are here. I’m still here. And I want people to connect with me.”

“Pass it on”: In cute video, cast of Netflix’s ‘XO, Kitty’ announces season 2 renewal

In a social media post featuring Anna Cathcart and some of her castmates, Netflix announced that XO, Kitty, the spinoff series from the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film franchise, is coming back for a sophomore season.

The message started with Peter Thurnwald (Prof. Finnerty) jumping onto a couch and into frame, and scribbling a note, before saying, “Pass this to Anna.” Choi Min-young (Dae) is handed it, reads it and has the same message for Gia Kim (Yuri), who slips it off camera to Anthony Keyvan (Quincy). “No. Way,” he says, before adding, “Anna: You’re gonna wanna see this one.”

For her part, Cathcart is ecstatic and reveals the note to the camera: It reads, “XO, KITTY SEASON 2 IS COMING.” She tells their followers she’s “so, so excited,” and thanked fans for making the first series a hit.

XO, Kitty premiered on May 18, debuting on the #2 slot of Netflix’s English TV list, with 72.1 million hours watched. The show also appeared on the streaming show’s Top 10 in 90 countries in its first week.

While details aren’t known about the next go-round, Cathcart tells ABC Audio she doesn’t think her character won’t have an easy go in the love department. “I don’t expect things to settle down,” Anna says.

“I think Kitty is–that’s kind of part of her greatness, is part of her joy, is that she’s a little all over the place and she has so much passion and so much love and that can be spread in a lot of different ways. So I assume it would still be a very bumpy ride, but that’s kind of what makes it fun,” she enthuses.

Andy Summers on The Police: “I thought we could have gone on and played for years”

Many fans were upset when The Police broke up in 1986, and while they did reunite for a tour in 2007, it sure sounds like guitarist Andy Summers wishes they could have made more music.

In an interview with Loudersound, Summers says he felt a “huge sense of loss” when the group disbanded, and he felt something similar when they went their separate ways after the reunion tour.

“If it was up to me I wouldn’t have let it go. It’s an interesting subject, and to do [it] with fragility, frailty, ego and all that,” he shares. “I thought we could have gone on and played for years. We could have made some great new records.”

He adds, “It’s sad. We could have done more, but it wasn’t to be. One of the greatest bands of all-time got short shrift, I’m afraid to say.”

Of course, The Police’s legacy continues with their songs, and Summers notes, “That’s why it’s one of the greatest bands in history. The songs won’t go away.”
