Carly Pearce and Chris Stapleton‘s highly anticipated duet, “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” is finally here.
As previously reported, the poignant ballad, which Carly wrote with Shane McAnally and Pete Good, serves as her new single on country radio.
“This song embodies a place that I think, if we are honest with ourselves, we’ve all felt at some point in a relationship. The distance that feels heartbreaking, yet you’re also indifferent,” Carly says of the song. “I’ve always been a writer who never wanted to shy away from the ‘uncomfortable’ moments in all of our lives, and this song feels too important not to share.”
In announcing the duet earlier this week, Carly said, “Having Chris Stapleton join me on this song was a dream come true and he unlocked an element to the story that I didn’t even know it needed.”
“We Don’t Fight Anymore” is the first preview of Carly’s fourth studio album and follows her latest #1 hit, “What He Didn’t Do.”
Pretenders have released the second single off their upcoming album, Relentless.
The latest is the album’s closing track, “I Think About You Daily,” which features Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, who provided the string arrangement and conducted the 12 Ensemble on the song.
“I met Jonny a couple of times and we’re obviously big fans of him because he’s done some incredible music over the years,” Chrissie Hynde shares, noting she was “thrilled and very surprised” when he said he wanted to do something together.
Relentless, which is now dropping September 15 due to production delays, is the follow-up to 2020’s Hate for Sale. It’s the second consecutive album where Hynde and Pretenders guitarist James Walbourne collaborated on all the songwriting.
(SURFSIDE, Fla.) — Federal investigators looking into the Surfside, Florida, condo collapse that killed 98 people in 2021 said Thursday the structure did not meet building codes when it was erected 42 years ago.
“Our preliminary analysis of the original structural design of CTS shows that the building did not meet building codes in effect at the time, nor today’s building codes,” National Institute of Standards and Technology project leader James Harris said at a public hearing. “Furthermore, there’s evidence of errors in construction and renovations that compounded those deficiencies.”
NIST cautioned that these updates are preliminary. Investigators are placing a particular emphasis on the pool deck, with NIST’s Glenn Bell saying there were pervasive concerns with the deck’s design and misplaced slab reinforcement, along with possible problems with planter changes, the addition of fill and paving and slab reinforcement corrosion.
“Our analysis to date shows that even absent any sudden overload or obvious initiator of a failure on that tragic night of the collapse, the conditions that existed in the pool deck slab at that time represented a serious safety concern for the building,” Bell said.
NIST is hoping to find footage from Champlain Towers South’s surveillance cameras. It also plans to create a virtual reality model and conduct more testing.
Martin and Pablo Langesfeld, whose sister and daughter Nicole died during the collapse, spoke at the meeting.
“What many of the affected families find most troubling is the possibility of new development on the site of the collapse,” Martin Langesfeld said, referring to plans filed on Monday for new condominiums that could be built starting in 2024.
He went on, “You have repeatedly mentioned that NIST will inform the public if any signs of danger are discovered but how will this work if the building has already been developed?”
If approved and ultimately constructed, the new luxury development at the site of the collapse would be 12 stories tall, just like Champlain Towers South. In a letter to Surfside officials, an attorney representing the company proposing the new building said the project “will be a significant improvement to the property and a benefit to the area.”
The developer bought the property last year for $120 million.
NIST’s investigation will not be finished until May 2024 at the earliest. The final report could take an additional year.
“We do not need hypotheses. We need concrete answers,” Pablo Langesfeld said. “While I understand that a proper investigation takes time, it feels like an excessive delay.”
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood contributes to a new song from Pretenders called “I Think About You Daily.”
The track features a string section arranged and conducted by Greenwood.
“I met Jonny a couple of times and we’re obviously big fans of him because he’s done some incredible music over the years,” says Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde. “I saw him at the Phantom Thread premiere where the film was running on screen with a live orchestra playing. And we spoke afterward and he expressed an interest in doing something one day.”
“I was thrilled and very surprised,” Hynde continues. “So when we had the idea of getting strings on ‘I Think About You Daily,’ he was first choice. Legend!”

Greenwood, meanwhile, is gearing up to launch a U.S. tour with The Smile, his Radiohead offshoot band with Thom Yorke. He’s also just released a new album in collaboration with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa.
Fleetwood Mac’s classic tune “Don’t Stop” is featured in a new short film for Greenpeace, which was executive produced by 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen.
Variety reports the song’s writer, the late Fleetwood Mac keyboardist and singer Christine McVie, gave the organization the rights to use the song before she passed away in November 2022. The version in the clip was produced by Fraser T. Smith and is performed by Future Utopia. It features rapper Avelino, vocals from the House Gospel Choir and music from jazz talent development organization Tomorrow’s Warriors.
“This is no ordinary cover: ‘Don’t Stop’ is a contemporary fable about being young in the world today,” reads a description of the clip. “The song is a call to action for people worried about their future and the state of the planet, and a rallying cry for those who dream of a better tomorrow. Together we can stand up to the fossil fuel industry.”
The video, directed by Samona Olanipekun, is set at an extravagant party where guests are celebrating to excess, although some, including Guardians of the Galaxy 3’s Will Poulter, start to wake up and realize the reality of the situation.
Olanipekun shares, “My film is a metaphor for the climate crisis – things feel like they’re falling apart around us, while those in power continue with business as usual. The guests who snap out of the trance represent those brave enough to confront the truth. People everywhere are facing climate catastrophe – it’s time for us to wake up, and shake up, the fossil fuel industry. Together, we are stronger, and every voice makes us louder.”
On Sunday, June 18, AMC unveils The Walking Dead: Dead City. The spinoff stars, and is executive produced by, TWD veterans Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising, respectively, as Negan and Maggie.
The series has the pair teaming up to try to rescue Maggie’s son, Hershel from a post-apocalyptic New York City — a mission complicated by Negan and Maggie’s past: He bludgeoned Hershel’s dad, Glenn, to death with his barbed-wire baseball bat years ago, after all.
“It’s already a great new stimulus to be in a real way with Jeff because we do … avoid each other so much of The Walking Dead, understandably,” Cohan says.
She calls the six-episode show “wonderful because we get this new blood … by being in New York and being with new characters and by seeing each other in different ways.”
Morgan agrees, “We both are pretty comfortable in [these] shoes, but those shoes stepping on the pavement, and for the first time, is pretty amazing.”
Negan’s character has softened somewhat in recent years. But with Hershel’s life on the line, the old Negan comes back, to the delight of fans who saw him in action at a recent screening using a bad guy’s head as the punchline in a knock-knock joke.
“I loved it,” JDM enthuses. “Look, there’s parts of Negan that I obviously love because it’s why I wanted to do the role in the first place … . And I think to be able to bring him out again was a lot of fun for me as an actor.”
He adds, “But then to hear the reaction of the crowd when he does his knock-knock joke was awesome. It was, like, so cool. I was really glad to see that people kind of wanted to see him back a little bit, as well, so it was fun.”
(DELPHI, Ind.) — Prosecutors are alleging that Delphi, Indiana, double murder suspect Richard Allen, while in custody, confessed five or six times to the killings.
Defense attorneys didn’t dispute the allegation in a Thursday hearing, but argued the confessions were unreliable because of Allen’s deteriorating mental and physical health.
Judge Fran Gull is considering the defense’s request to move Allen to a different facility.
Allen was arrested in October 2022 and charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Abby Williams, 13, and Libby German, 14. The best friends were enjoying a day off from school when they were killed on a Delphi hiking trail in February 2017.
Allen, a Delphi resident, has pleaded not guilty.
Allen’s trial has been scheduled for January 2024.
(PITTSBURGH) — Robert Bowers was found guilty on Friday on all counts in the 2018 mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 worshippers.
Bowers was convicted on all 63 charges, including 11 counts of hate crimes resulting in death. Bowers offered to plead guilty if the death penalty was taken off the table, but prosecutors turned him down.
The jury deliberated for less than one day. Jurors will next weigh if Bowers should be sentenced to death.
Bowers stormed the Tree of Life synagogue on Oct. 27, 2018, gunning down 11 people in the deadliest antisemitic attack in American history. Bowers allegedly told investigators after his arrest that he wanted to kill Jewish people, according to a criminal complaint.
Prosecutors said Bowers, armed with a semi-automatic assault-style rifle and three handguns, moved “methodically” through the synagogue and shot many of his victims at close range.
In opening statements in May, defense attorney Judy Clarke admitted that Bowers was the shooter and said he “shot every person he saw … and injured first responders who came to their rescue.”
“There will be no question that this was a planned act and that he killed 11 people,” Clarke said, but she asked the jurors to “scrutinize his intent.”
The jury, comprised of 11 women and seven men, included an intensive care nurse, a new father and a veteran.
Dolly Parton has teamed up with some big-name rockers for her upcoming Rockstar album, and we are now getting another taste of the record.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer just released two new collaborations from the album, including her cover of Heart’s “Magic Man (Carl Version),” likely a reference to her hubby, Carl Dean. The track features Heart’s Ann Wilson and special guest Howard Leese, a former member of the group.
“I’ve always wanted a reason to sing ‘Magic Man’ by Heart and it was one of my first choices for the album,” Parton says. “I was so happy that Ann Wilson agreed to sing it with me. Nobody can out-sing Ann, but I gave it my darndest, and we added a few lines that were not in the original.”
Dolly also released the original track “Bygones,” featuring Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, who she met when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame together in 2022. It also features Mötley Crüe‘s Nikki Sixx and John 5.
“It is one of my very favorites on the whole album,” Dolly shares. “The song fits with so many couples and coupling my voice with Rob, one of my all-time favorites, made it even more special.”
Rockstar will be released November 17 as a four-LP or two-CD set. It is available for preorder now.
Rob Halford duets with Dolly Parton on a new song called “Bygones,” a track off the country icon’s upcoming rock album, Rockstar.
On “Bygones,” Halford and Parton sing about apologizing to an unnamed party who refuses to forgive them and “let bygones be bygones.” Along with vocals from the Judas Priest frontman, the tune features Nikki Sixx and John 5 of Mötley Crüe.
“It is one of my very favorites on the whole album,” Parton says of “Bygones.” “The song fits with so many couples and coupling my voice with Rob, one of my all-time favorites, made it even more special.”
Rockstar, which includes a mix of covers and originals, will be released November 17. Other guests on the track list include Beatles legends Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Fleetwood Mac‘s Stevie Nicks.
