After releasing some singles on her own, Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet Grohl has landed herself a record deal.

The 19-year-old has just signed with Republic Records through her own imprint, Auroura Records, and will be working on her first album.

“From the moment we met Violet, it was clear that she represents the next generation of artists,” Kristina Grossmann, senior vice president of A&R/Operations at Republic Records, says. “The music is immediate, intentional and her voice holds a rare duality. She is unapologetically cool and is a fearless female voice. We couldn’t be more excited to help bring her vision and this album to life.”

“Violet brings a rare combination of perspective, artistry, and reverence for the craft,” David Wolter, executive vice president/head of A&R at Republic Records, adds. “She understands the history of music, but she’s also pushing it forward. She is the future.”

Violet has already given fans a taste of her music with the release of singles “THUM” and “Applefish.” She also released the track “What’s Heaven Without You” on Tuesday, as a tribute to the late director David Lynch on what would have been his 80th birthday.

Violet has performed with her father several times, including alongside the reunited Nirvana at the 2025 FireAid benefit concert.

The grind continues for 50 Cent, who has added a podcast series to his busy slate. Deadline reports he’s teamed with iHeartPodcasts and Narratively for a podcast exploring DMX‘s humble beginnings and subsequent rise to fame.

Look Thru My Eyes: Becoming DMX will chronicle DMX’s early days as a talented yet starving artist in Yonkers via stories shared by his family, friends, collaborators, rivals and more. Jadakiss has been tapped to serve as host of the podcast.

“DMX’s story is bigger than the music — it’s about survival, faith, pain, and purpose,” says 50, who is executive producing the series, alongside Bruce Miller, Justin Baez and Workhorse Media’s Noah Rosenberg and Paul Anderson. “Look Thru My Eyes: Becoming DMX gives people a chance to understand where X came from, before the fame, through the voices of the people who were really there. This is the story that shaped the legend.”

Look Thru My Eyes: Becoming DMX will be available on streaming services sometime in 2026, marking the start of a series that will later focus on the origin stories of other artists.

Another movie 50 executive produced, Moses the Black starring Omar Epps, premieres on Jan. 30.

The Beatles lose UK album chart record to Robbie Williams

The Beatles have lost one of their long-standing U.K chart records.

The legendary band’s record as the artist with the most U.K. #1 albums, has just been snatched by pop star Robbie Williams, whose recent album Britpop has topped the U.K. Official Chart this week, making it his 16th U.K. #1.

The two artists have been tied for the record since Williams’ Better Man soundtrack went to #1 last January.

According to Billboard, The Beatles had held the record for the most #1s since the 1967 release Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band topped the chart. At the time it was their eighth #1 album, which pushed them past Elvis Presley, the previous record holder.

Overall, The Beatles have had 15 #1s on the U.K. chart, their first being their 1963 debut Please Please Me and their last being the compilation album 1, which was released in 2000. In the U.S., The Beatles hold the record for the most #1 albums with 19.

But while they may have lost one U.K. record to Williams, they have far surpassed him when it comes to another U.K. chart record. They currently hold the record for the act with the most weeks at #1 on the U.K. chart, with 176. Williams has only spent a total of 38 weeks at the top.

Jason Derulo has released his new EP, The Last Dance (Part 1). The project signals the end of an era, after he nearly considered ending his musical career entirely.

“I had thoughts of wanting to stop in general,” he tells ABC Audio. “I was like, I’ve done so much in my life and maybe it’s time to ride off into the sunset and just chill and spend the rest of my life on the beach…Then I was [like] nah, you know, I love making music. It’s my favorite thing to do to create music from scratch and to perform for people.”

When putting the project together, Jason says he wanted to create something that mirrors his previous music while also signaling an upcoming transformation.

“I wanted to create something that felt nostalgic and felt like some of the earlier works,” he explains, “and in the process, I’ve got some really, really cool sounding records that both feel brand new, but still it feels like something that you almost know.”

One of those songs is the focus track “Sexy for Me,” the result of his vision to make a runway song.

“In the creative process, I was like I want to have a song that makes women feel sexy. And when they’re looking at themselves in the mirror, being able to love on themselves,” he says. “The overarching idea is when they’re looking in the mirror, when there’s a runway, like what’s the theme song, you know? And that’s how this came about. It was trying to create an ultimate kind of love yourself record.”

The Last Dance (Part 1) is now available on streaming services.

Metallica fans can now represent their band on their feet.

The band has teamed with British boot maker Dr. Martens for a new footwear collection. There are three options, with two of them paying homage to their 1980s tours.

The collaboration will consist of the 1460 Metallica Boot, featuring graphics from the band’s 1988 Damaged Justice world tour, and the 1461 Metallica Shoe, featuring images from their 1986 Damaged Inc tour. Images on both options were originally created by the artist Pushead. Both feature a Metallica “M” heel stud, along with special-edition dog tags, and a secondary set of laces that read, “Boredom comes from a boring mind.”

There will also be a Metallica exclusive 1460 Boot inspired by their 1991 self-titled release, often referred to as The Black Album. As the title suggests, the boot will be all black. It will feature the band’s logo embossed on the ankle, with the heel marked with “5th Member” as a reference to the band’s fans. The boot will also include an “M” heel stud and dog tags, but its secondary set of laces will be marked with “5th Member.”

The Dr. Martens x Metallica collection will be available Jan. 29. The 1460 Metallica Boot and 1461 Metallica Shoe will be available at drmartens.com and all Dr. Martens retail stores, while the black-on-black shoe will be exclusive to Metallica.com.

Acclaimed actor Delroy Lindo is opening up about receiving his first Oscar nomination at the age of 73.

“It feels terrific,” Lindo said on Good Morning America Friday. “I’m still processing, if I’m really honest, but it’s wonderful. And part of my response has to do with how positive everybody else’s response has been. A lot of support, a lot of love. It feels really good.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated Lindo on Thursday for best supporting actor for his role as blues musician Delta Slim in the Ryan Coogler horror film Sinners.

Although Lindo has been acting for over five decades, he said playing Delta Slim didn’t come easy for him.

“The musical aspect — the piano, the keyboard and the harmonica — it’s a different side of the brain,” Lindo said about playing the musician. “So I would be at the keyboard practicing, and I had some incredible musicians who helped me, but I was aware — sometimes the mind and the fingers, they don’t line up well.”

Ahead of the Oscar nominations this week, Lindo said the buzz was hard to ignore but he tried to do so anyway.

“I was trying to maintain a certain distance, because I was not sure of what would happen,” Lindo said. “It’s difficult to not have it on your mind. But I was trying as much as I could to just let it be what it was going to be.”

Sinners received a record-breaking 16 nominations on Thursday, the most in Oscars history. Lindo said he “had no idea” the movie would resonate with audiences so much.

He added that he was in bed when he found out he had been nominated.

“My son called me. I was in bed,” Lindo recounted. “I was kind of halfway between being asleep and waking, and the phone rang, and I picked it up, and my son was on the other line, and it’s perfect that I got the news from him.”

“Ryan and I had a long talk, and in true Ryan fashion, he just wanted to talk about me,” Lindo said.

Coogler is nominated for several awards, including best director and best original screenplay, for Sinners.

Coogler, his wife, Zinzi Coogler, and frequent collaborator Sev Ohanian are also up for the best picture Oscar.

Lindo expressed his excitement for the director.

“I don’t have the words to articulate how thrilled I am for [Coogler], because from the very first time I read the script, I saw what he was trying to do, and it’s extraordinary that audiences have embraced it and embraced his vision,” he said.

Sinners was released in April 2025 and returned to theaters in the fall for Halloween. The movie is coming back to theaters again amid awards season, returning to select IMAX 70mm locations the weekend of Jan. 30, according to an IMAX spokesperson.

The 98th Academy Awards will be held March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
