(WASHINGTON) — An 18-year-old man was apprehended after running toward the U.S. Capitol with a loaded shotgun, according to Capitol police.

Just after noon on Tuesday, the man parked a white Mercedes SUV, got out of the car and started running toward the Washington, D.C. building, Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan said at a news conference.

As he approached the building, officers with the Capitol police saw him and ordered him to drop the weapon, the chief said.

“He immediately complied,” Sullivan said, noting that the man put down the gun, got on the ground and was then taken into custody.

The man had additional rounds with him, as well as a tactical vest and tactical gloves, according to Sullivan. A Kevlar helmet and gas mask were found in his car, he added.

“Who knows what could’ve happened” if the officers were not standing guard, Sullivan said.

Officers cleared the area, which has since reopened, according to police.

“There does not appear to be any other suspects or ongoing threat,” authorities said.

Both chambers of Congress are out of session this week.

A motive is not clear, Sullivan noted.

The man, who does not live in the area, was not known to Capitol police, he said.

Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde has paid tribute to songwriter Billy Steinberg, who, along with his songwriting partner Tom Kelly, co-wrote the band’s classic tune “I’ll Stand By You.”

Steinberg died Monday in Los Angeles at the age of 75.

“Very sad to hear of the passing of my dear friend Billy Steinberg,” Hynde wrote on social media. “Billy and I, along with his songwriting partner Tom Kelly, enjoyed hours of mirth writing songs together in LA and London.”

“It was with Billy and Tom that I learned to collaborate with other songwriters…. and we wrote some crackers, including I’ll Stand By You,” she added. “Billy, a gentle soul and great talent will be greatly missed.”

“I’ll Stand By You,” a top-20 hit for the Pretenders, appeared on their 1994 album, Last of the Independents, which featured several other songs co-written by Hynde, Steinberg and Kelly. Hynde helped induct Steinberg and Kelly into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.

Steinberg and Kelly also wrote such iconic tunes as Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” Heart’s “Alone” and The Bangles’ “Eternal Flame.”

Megan Thee Stallion has unlocked her 31st year of life, as well as a brand-new car.

The rapper, whose birthday was on Sunday, took to Instagram to give a glimpse of how she celebrated another trip around the sun. The post included photos of her in a revealing dress, posing with boyfriend Klay Thompson on a boat and a beach, and a blue Bentley, which appears to be her birthday gift from Klay.

“Aw man I was not ready for this birthday trip to be over,” Meg wrote in the caption. “A time was definitely had. THANK YOU BABY.”

Meg’s birthday getaway comes a week after she celebrated Klay’s 36th birthday with a party that included a  performance by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

She previously spoke to People about the NBA player, whom she said unexpectedly came into her life after she prioritized self-love and mental health.

“I think that because finally I started being in a better mind space about myself and my life, and I had already been doing a lot of work to heal me,” she said. “I had been going to therapy, I had a bunch of activities that I started doing for myself; maybe God just opened up that space for me to have somebody that loved me right.”

“This is one of the first times that I’ve ever been just overly comfortable,” she added. “I’m comfy, babe!”

On Monday, the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office in Austria filed charges against a suspect in the thwarted plot to bomb Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in that city on Aug. 9, 2024.

The 21-year-old suspect is accused of “planning and preparing a terrorist attack,” “obtaining instructions online for constructing a … bomb” and of “receiving instruction from other IS members in the handling of explosives.”  He’s also accused of attempting to buy guns and a hand grenade illegally, and of manufactured a small quantity of explosives.

In addition, the suspect is being accused of multiple other terrorist-related crimes, including promoting terrorist activities via Snapchat and other messenger services. The suspect, in custody since 2024, faces up to 20 years in prison.

While the plot failed, in part thanks to a tip from U.S. intelligence, Taylor’s three planned shows in Austria that year were canceled due to concerns for public safety.

Shia LaBeouf has been arrested in New Orleans after allegedly assaulting two men, according to police.

He is facing two counts of simple battery, the New Orleans Police Department said in a statement to ABC News on Tuesday.

Investigators say LaBeouf allegedly assaulted the two men outside a business on Royal Street.

“At approximately 12:45am on February 17, 2026, NOPD officers were called to the 1400 block of Royal Street in response to a simple battery where two victims (two adult males), reported being assaulted,” police stated. “Investigators say a man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasing aggressive at a Royal Street business.”

According to the statement, a staff member at the Royal Street business tried to remove LaBeouf, 39, from the establishment, and once outside, the actor allegedly struck one of the victims with “closed fists” several times.

Police said the Transformers star then left the area but returned and allegedly continued to act aggressively, at which point “multiple” people tried to restrain him.

“He was eventually let up in hopes that he would leave — but he reportedly again struck the same victim with closed fists to the victim’s upper body,” the department stated. “LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person — punching him in the nose.”

According to police, LaBeouf was then restrained again and “held down” until officers arrived on the scene. The department said the actor was later taken to a hospital “for treatment of unspecified injuries” before being arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery.

The incident occurred amid Lundi Gras celebrations in New Orleans.

ABC News has reached out to LaBeouf’s representative for comment.
