(WASHINGTON) — Under a newly proposed rule, the U.S. Postal Service will refuse to deliver mail-in ballots in states that do not hand over a list of approved voters to the Trump administration, Postmaster General David Steiner told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday.

Democrats lambasted the proposed policy during the hearing, arguing the rule was unconstitutional and “another backdoor way of trying to influence this election.”

“Yes or no — if a state refuses to turn their absentee voter list over to the federal government, will the Postal Service still mail their ballots under this proposed rule?” asked Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich.

“Under our proposed regulation, no. We would tell the state that we need the manifest,” Steiner said.

The proposed rule puts the Postal Service at the center of President Donald Trump’s push to increase federal oversight of elections, though Steiner argued the policy is routine and an attempt to make sure ballots are delivered “securely, efficiently, and accurately.”

According to the proposal, states would need to provide to the Postal Service the names, addresses and ballot barcode numbers for individuals to receive a mail-in ballot.

That list of information is less than what’s included on a state’s voter roll — which often include voter registration data and other sensitive data — but in line with an executive order Trump signed in March to increase federal oversight of elections.

At least five lawsuits have challenged that executive order, but some of those cases have stalled because the policy has not yet been enacted. The comment period for that proposed rule is open for the next week.

“It really is trying to help the state make sure that the ballots that they send to the voters actually get there and get to those voters, and so it’s strictly a manifest for us to make sure that the right ballots are going to the right people,” said Steiner, an attorney who previously served as the CEO of Waste Management.

However, Senate Democrats argued the policy is a veiled attempt to increase federal control over the election.

“Just because President Trump wants to do this does not make it law, doesn’t make it right, doesn’t make it constitutional. There is certainly a massive difference between general mail requirements and regulating elections,” Peters said.

“The U.S. Postal Service is now part of this bigger story of this president desperate to federalize our elections. He has tried every which way to say that if he and his party don’t win in these November elections, they were rigged,” said Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.

When pressed on whether the Postal Service would refuse to send ballots to states that refuse to turn over that information, Steiner repeatedly deflected but acknowledged that under the proposed rule, the Postal Service would withhold the ballots.

“If you don’t get Michigan’s voter rolls for the general election in November, will you move those ballots in your mailboxes?” asked Slotkin.

“Remember, right now we only have a proposed rule, so there are no new rules,” Steiner answered.  “We will move those ballots in accordance with whatever rule is in effect at that point in time.”

Riley Green marks a career highlight on Thursday, as he hosts ABC’s annual CMA Fest special alongside Good Morning America‘s Lara Spencer.

“Performing at the CMA Fest is such a big deal, and obviously getting to play at Nissan [Stadium] and, you know, [it’s] something you grow up dreaming about doing,” he said backstage earlier this month. “I don’t think I ever grew up dreaming about hosting.”

“I hope I didn’t bite off more than I can chew,” he adds, “but [I’m] excited about being able to have a part in the festival and being able to interview some of the other artists I’m friends with and fans of, and it’ll be a good time.”

Of course, the “Change My Mind” hitmaker also played his own set at the festival, and he can instantly tell how it’s affecting the crowd.

“Well, there should be a lot of beers up in the air and, you know, maybe some tears,” he reveals. “I think that’s always a [way to] judge for me is if I can have people holding their beer up and crying in the same show, it’s a good set.”

The long list of talent in the three-hour special include Bailey Zimmerman, Blake Shelton, The Band Perry, Brothers Osborne, Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson, Deana Carter, Ella Langley, Fetty Wap, Florida Georgia Line, Gretchen Wilson, HARDY, Jason Aldean, Jelly Roll, Jordan Davis, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan, Michael McDonald, Molly Tuttle, The Red Clay Strays, Ricky Skaggs, Russell Dickerson, Shaboozey, Shay Morgan, Stephen Wilson Jr., Tim McGraw, Tucker Wetmore and Zach Top.

Tune in to see Riley’s hosting debut starting at 8 p.m. ET Thursday on ABC, before CMA Fest premieres on Hulu Friday.

The Beatles are getting not one but four biopics, thanks to Sam Mendes’ project The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event, and it sounds like Mick Jagger is open to having a similar thing happen for The Rolling Stones.

In a new interview with British GQ, Jagger was asked about whether he’d like to see that “kind of treatment” for The Stones, to which he replied, “Yeah, it interests me.”

“I don’t want to impart it to you, but, I know how I see it,” he says of a possible film. “There’s lots of ways of doing biopics.”

Referring to the Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, Jagger explains, “So most of the time when you do a biopic, you do one small section of someone’s life bookended by some other stuff. Take the Bob Dylan movie. You do the moment when Bob went electric.”

“You’d have to think, what are you going to zero in on?” he continues. “And where’s your two years of interest? I mean that Bob Dylan one was two years, [the] James Brown one that I produced was slightly more.” The latter is a reference to 2014’s Get On Up, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman.

So, which portion of The Stones’ career would he like a movie to focus on?

“I don’t know which section, because it’s a long period,” Jagger says.

As for whether he has an idea for someone who could play him in a film, Jagger says, “No.”

As fans wait for a future Rolling Stones film, they can simply enjoy The Stones’ music. They’ll release the new album Foreign Tongues on July 10.

‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ director Leah McKendrick on those Taylor Swift needle drops

Voicemails for Isabelle, which became the #1 movie on Netflix the first weekend it was released, has a musical pedigree. The score was co-composed by Este Haim of the group HAIM, and it features several big pop music needle drops, including Taylor Swift’s “Marjorie,” from Evermore, and “New Year’s Day,” from Reputation.

Director Leah McKendrick, who identifies as a “hardcore Swiftie,” told ABC Audio that she was thrilled to be able to use the songs in the film. “I love Taylor. She’s the poet of our time. She’s the Shakespeare of our times, the voice of our generation,” she said.

“I think we can all really connect with this wistful little girl that became a woman, who has experienced the full spectrum of love and heartbreak and articulates it so gorgeously in a way that is accessible and, simultaneously poetry,” she continued, adding, “She amazes me. … I want Taylor Swift’s songs in all my movies.”

“Marjorie” is used to soundtrack a pivotal moment in the film when Jill, played by Zoey Deutch, is grieving for her younger sister Isabelle, who passed away. “New Year’s Day” is heard when Jill’s love interest Wes, played by Nick Robinson, is missing her.

“In my mind, we have this girl who’s yearning, longing, grieving, and we have the perfect song: ‘Marjorie’ just feels so right,” said McKendrick. “But by the end, he’s the one longing, yearning, grieving — listening to Taylor Swift.”

At first, McKendrick wasn’t sure if the production would be able to afford not two Taylor Swift songs. But, she said, “Netflix really understood … [that] [m]y music is my everything. It’s part of my process. It’s a part of what I want to deliver to my audience. It will always be banger after banger in all of my movies. I own that.”

Tom Holland referred to his wife, Zendaya, by an unexpected name at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere in Rome.

While the pair were talking to different reporters on the red carpet at the premiere, Holland called out to Zendaya to ask her a question, as seen in a video shared by People.

“Maree!” Holland shouted, to which Zendaya responded back, “Yeah?”

Holland then asked her where they were going after the premiere, to which she said, “Giolitti’s.” Zendaya added more context to the reporter she was speaking with, telling them, “That’s where I’m going after this.”

Zendaya’s full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, meaning Holland used one of her middle names to refer to her on the carpet.

Holland also posted photos of him and Zendaya at the premiere to his Instagram on Tuesday.

The first photo in his carousel is a black-and-white picture of him and Zendaya walking hand-in-hand across the Ponte Sant’Angelo in Rome. Zendaya is dressed in a vintage Giorgio Armani web dress.

The second photo was taken in color and features the couple looking up at the sky as a Spider-Man: Brand New Day graphic is displayed on Castel Sant’Angelo behind them. Many other black-and-white and color photos follow in the rest of Holland’s post.

“When in Rome! Spider-Man Brand New Day,” Holland captioned the carousel.

Motörhead and Scorpions drummer Mikkey Dee has joined actor William Shatner’s upcoming heavy metal album.

Dee will play on a cover of the Judas Priest song “Living After Midnight” alongside the 95-year-old Star Trek icon for the record.

“I needed pounding beats to make the music feel the way I feel it,” Shatner says in a statement. “The drums drive the emotion. They create the urgency, the excitement, the danger. Heavy metal should hit you in the chest and move your soul at the same time.”

As previously reported, the album will also include Shatner performing the Priest track “You’ve got Another Thing Comin'” with Rob Halford, as well as covers of songs by metal legends including Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The record’s title and full track and guest list have yet to be revealed.

According to a press release, Shatner is now considering bringing the album to the live stage for an event described as “part concert, part theatrical experience, and part celebration of heavy metal’s enduring power and legacy.”

“The proposed production would transform Shatner’s star-studded recording project into an immersive live spectacle combining legendary musicians, cinematic visuals, storytelling, and the larger-than-life charisma that has made Shatner a global icon for more than six decades,” the press release reads.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise has dropped a remix of the band’s song “It’s Called: Freefall” by the DJ and producer GRiZ.

The origins of the remix date back to 2023, when GRiZ first debuted it at Bonnaroo after RKS had to pull out of performing at the festival. Three years later, RKS frontwoman Ela Melo made a surprise appearance during GRiZ’s 2026 Bonnaroo set to perform the track together.

Now, the remix has been officially released on digital outlets.

The original “It’s Called: Freefall” was released in 2018 and is one of the signature Rainbow Kitten Surprise songs. It’s been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise put out a new single, “Never Have I Ever,” in May. The band’s most recent album is 2025’s bones.

(OAHU, Hawaii) — The United States Coast Guard and local officials are conducting a search for a 49-year-old man and his 16-year-old son who went missing Tuesday morning after leaving for a hike on the eastern coast of Oahu, a Coast Guard press release said.

Family members said the pair left their hotel at around 7 a.m. Tuesday to hike the Hanauma Bay Rock Bridge Trail, according to officials. Passersby found a backpack containing the man’s belongings near the trail at 8:45 a.m. and notified the Honolulu Police Department, the release said.

Police, the Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Ocean Safety Department and the Coast Guard launched a joint search operation late Tuesday morning after confirmation that the father and son were missing, ABC News Honolulu affiliate KITV reported.

The names of the father and son have not been released.

The agencies searched along the trail and surrounding areas, and deployed fire department helicopters and rescue boat, safety department jet skis and Coast Guard resources, the fire department said.

The mission was suspended at 5:30 p.m. local time Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions and was scheduled to resume Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
