Patti Smith to take part in Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment

Patti Smith is one of the artists booked for Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment, a live event happening June 14 at Town Hall in New York City.

The event is being put on by the free speech advocacy group Committee for the First Amendment, founded by actress and activist Jane Fonda. It is described as “an evening of song, solidarity, and action that will celebrate the freedoms guaranteed by our First Amendment, of speech, religion, press, assembly, and protest.”

Fonda is also part of the night’s lineup, along with Bette Midler, Rufus Wainwright, Joy Reid, Sasha Allen and Broadway Inspirational Voices, with more artists to be announced.

“Music has long been a tool to stand up to authoritarianism, and I am honored to spend the evening with these fiercely committed, talented, and brilliant people to celebrate our First Amendment rights,” said Fonda. “As we continue to watch bad faith leaders take more and more power, it is critical that we gather together, raise our voices collectively, and stand united against this administration – and have some fun while doing it.”

Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment will be streamed online for free, with watch parties planned across the country.

Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster and the event’s website. Proceeds will support the Committee for the First Amendment’s work.

Amy Adams, Javier Bardem star in ‘Cape Fear’ limited series trailer

The official trailer for the Cape Fear limited series adaptation has arrived.

Apple TV released the trailer for its psychological horror thriller based on the John D. MacDonald novel The Executioners. It’s also based on the 1962 film Cape Fear and its remake, which was directed by Martin Scorsese in 1991.

Amy Adams, Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson star in the new series, which has Scorsese and Steven Spielberg as executive producers.

“A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance,” according to an official description of the show.

The trailer starts with Bardem’s Max Cady, fresh out of prison, staring intently at someone.

“Let me ask you a question,” he says. “What is your worst fear?”

Later in the trailer we see him approach Adams’ Anna at an event.

“I had a good life once, too,” he tells her. “Are you afraid of me?”

Anna scoffs, before she says, “Why would I be afraid of you?” The trailer then cuts to Anna speaking with her husband, Tom.

“Is there any way Max could know about what we did?” she asks.

Cape Fear premieres its first two episodes to Apple TV on June 5. It will release a new episode every Friday through the finale on July 31.

Hayley Williams announces ‘The Hayley Williams Show’ tour dates

Hayley Williams is taking “The Hayley Williams Show” on the road.

The Paramore frontwoman has announced a new batch of solo headlining U.S. tour dates, spanning from Sept. 3 in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Oct. 12 in Southaven, Mississippi.

Registration is open now through Saturday at 3 p.m. ET for a presale beginning May 12 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 14 at 10 a.m. local time.

The new dates follow Williams’ currently ongoing tour, during which she’s been performing her 2025 solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, in full along with select covers. In contrast, “The Hayley Williams Show” dates will feature songs from all three of Williams’ solo albums, as well “some exciting surprises,” a press release says.

Previously announced “The Hayley Williams Show” dates include two shows each at New York City’s Forest Hills Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, which are sold out.

Kacey Musgraves reveals there’s more to the ‘Middle of Nowhere’

Kacey Musgraves is doubling down on her Middle of Nowhere Tour.

The “Follow Your Arrow” hitmaker is adding five new dates to the trek supporting her new album, adding adjacent days in cities she’s already playing.

That means her tour will now kick off Aug. 20 in Chicago, instead of Aug. 21, with new shows in Boston, Austin and Dallas. She’s adding Brooklyn on Sept. 2, following her previous two days in New York.

Presales for the new dates are underway now, before tickets become available to the public on May 8.

She’s also revealed two Middle of Nowhere bonus tracks: “All My Exes (Kacey’s Version)” and “Caballero.”

The Texas native’s also back on country radio for the first time in a while, with “Loneliest Girl” making its debut on the country airplay charts.

Greta Van Fleet teases ‘The trouble’s begun’ after posting thank-you video

The Greta Van Fleet plot thickens.

As previously reported, the “Highway Tune” rockers posted a video earlier in the week titled “Thanks for the Wild Ride,” which featured throwback footage from throughout the band’s career. Given the title and reflective nature of the video, some fans were worried that GVF was calling it quits, though others thought it could be an elaborate tease for new music to follow their most recent album, 2023’s Starcatcher.

Now, there’s a new hint posted in the form of a video on Greta’s Instagram Story, featuring a shot of guitarist Jake Kiszka opening a case and strumming an acoustic guitar. The clip is subtitled, “The trouble’s begun.”

Nightly lineup for 2026 ‘Essence’ Festival unveiled

The star-studded lineup for Essence Festival 2026 has been divided into three nights.

Kicking things off the first night, July 3, is Cardi B, who will be making her Essence festival debut, along with Latto and Kehlani, who will give fans a taste of their new albums. The R&B band SZN4, formed on Netflix’s Building the Band, is also set to perform.

Saturday will feature a live R&B experience featuring performances by Brandy and Monica, Patti LaBelle, Leon Thomas and Josh Levi, along with a surprise guest who has yet to be revealed.

The third and final night will see George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic bring the Mothership back to New Orleans — a giant stage prop first introduced as part of the group’s live set in the mid-’70s. They will be joined by Big Boi, Scarface, Big Freedia, Nona Hendryx and Durand Bernarr. Babyface, Doug E. Fresh and Public Enemy are also on the lineup for that night.

Additional announcements are on the way.

The Essence Festival 2026 will take place July 3-5 in New Orleans. Three-day tickets are now available for purchase, and single-night tickets go on sale May 13 at 10 a.m. CT.

Billy Joel’s ‘Last Play at Shea’ set for special outdoor Tribeca Festival screening

Billy Joel’s concert documentary The Last Play at Shea is getting a special outdoor screening as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Tribeca Festival.

The documentary, which debuted at the Tribeca Festival in 2010, will screen at Hudson Yards in New York City on June 4 at 7 p.m. ET. The screening is part of Tribeca at 25: Celebrating the Stories We Share, a series of outdoor screenings of films tied to the history of the festival.

The Last Play at Shea, directed by Paul Crowder, is centered around Joel’s two 2008 concerts at New York’s Shea Stadium, the final concerts at the home of the New York Mets before its demolition. In addition to footage of the concerts, the doc explored the history of the stadium and the team, and featured interviews with Joel.

The concerts also featured guest appearances by Tony Bennett, The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Paul McCartney and others.

The Tribeca Festival is taking place June 3-14 in New York City.

Larry David annoys President Barack Obama in ‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhapppiness’ teaser

We have our first look at the new sketch comedy series from Larry David and the Obamas.

HBO has released a teaser trailer for its new series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhapppiness. The show is produced by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground.

“President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion,” according to the show’s official longline, “But then Larry David called.”

The trailer begins with Barack Obama making a direct-to-camera address.

“I have sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David,” Barack Obama says. “I’m just a producer on this show, so I don’t have to deal with him day to day. But still, it’s a lot.”

At the time the project was announced in July 2025, David released a statement on his decision to return to television after the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

“Once Curb ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow. Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished,” David said. “And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive.”

David and Jeff Schaffer wrote the series, which will feature a mix of Curb Your Enthusiasm actors and other noteworthy guest stars. Schaffer will direct the show.

Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhapppiness premieres June 26 to HBO and HBO Max.

Man with weapon arrested near former Prince Andrew’s home

(NEW YORK) — A man has been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon near the U.K. home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, police said Thursday.

The suspect, who was not named, “was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon,” Norfolk Police said in a statement to ABC News.

He remains in custody, according to police.

Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, lives on his brother King Charles III’s privately owned Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the arrest.

Suspects arrested in $1M Apple delivery truck hijacking — Three individuals were arrested in New York on May 7, 2026, for their roles in a January 2026 armed hijacking of a truck making a delivery at the Apple store in the Americana shopping center in Manhasset. (NEW YORK) — Three people were arrested Thursday in the January armed hijacking of a truck making a delivery at the Apple store in the Americana shopping center in Manhasset, New York City.

The delivery truck was filled with Apple merchandise valued at more than $1 million. The stolen goods included hundreds of devices and other accessories, including MacBooks, iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches, federal prosecutors said.

Alan Christhofer Cedeno-Ferrer, Michael Mejia-Nunez and Ennait Alexis Sirett-Padilla are accused of hijacking the truck and forcing the delivery workers to drive to a secluded location where they made off with more than $1.2 million worth of Apple products.

Victims were preparing to unload the merchandise when a black Honda Accord pulled up to the delivery truck. Three masked men, armed with handguns, got out of the car and approached the victims, according to court records.

They forced victim-1 into the back of the truck and zip-tied his hands. Victim-2 was ordered at gunpoint, into the driver’s seat to drive the truck. He was directed to a secluded parking area behind an office building less than a half mile away and then ordered into the back of the delivery truck with Victim-1, where his hands were also zip-tied, according to prosecutors.

The Accord and the delivery truck were followed to the location by a Home Depot box truck, authorities said. As captured by surveillance cameras, the Home Depot truck backed up to the rear of the delivery truck, so the cargo sections were aligned, according to prosecutors.

The Apple merchandise was then moved from the delivery truck to the Home Depot truck. Once they finished, they closed the cargo door to the delivery truck with the victims inside and left the location. One of the victims was able to free himself and call 911, according to prosecutors.

The defendants are expected to appear in federal court later Thursday, when federal prosecutors will seek their detention.
