Now that Miley Cyrus has pulled off her Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special, could a reboot be far behind?
When Variety’s Mark Malkin asked Miley that question Wednesday night, she smiled and said, “I don’t know about all that.” She added, “You always get me in trouble.”
Her comment refers to the fact that she’s credited Malkin with inspiring her to begin promoting a Hannah 20th anniversary celebration, even though she didn’t actually have any concrete plan for one. When the special did materialize earlier this year, it produced the single “Younger You” and boosted streaming numbers for Miley’s entire Hannah Montana catalog.
In December, prior to the announcement of the anniversary special, Miley was asked by Billboard about a reboot and if she’d like to see a new actress cast as Hannah.
“I don’t know if there is a new Hannah. This is the only Hannah,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Miley has just been announced as the recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Deftones’ show in Auckland, New Zealand, on Wednesday included a scary moment when frontman Chino Moreno fell onstage.
Fan-shot footage of the gig shows Moreno tripping and hitting the deck during a performance of the song “Hole in the Earth.”
While it might’ve felt like he fell through a hole in the earth, Moreno quickly got back up, resumed singing and continued the show as normal.
You may recall Moreno broke his foot in 2017, resulting in the cancellation of a show.
So far, Deftones’ current live schedule is unaffected — the band is set to resume touring on May 18 in Japan. They’re supporting their latest album, 2025’s private music.

Beyoncé now has a song in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Her 2008 hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” has been added to the list based on its “cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage.” It marks her first recording ever chosen for the registry.
She’s in company with Ray Charles’ “Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music” and Chaka Khan’s 1984 hit version of Prince’s “I Feel For You.”
Chaka commented on the honor in a statement, saying, “For the Library of Congress to say this recording belongs in the permanent collection of American sound heritage, that means it wasn’t just a hit, it was history. And I am so very grateful to have been part of it.”
The Library of Congress received over 3,000 nominations this year, some of which were nominated by the public; 25 were selected. The full list of recordings that have been added to the National Recording Registry can be found in the Library of Congress’ newsroom.

Will Smith has found his next role.
The actor is set to star in the upcoming action-thriller film Supermax for Amazon MGM Studios, ABC Audio has confirmed.
Pineapple Express and Halloween director David Gordon Green will helm the film, which is set to stream worldwide on Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to the movie from Miramax.
Smith will star as Rex in the film, which is described to be “a propulsive and twist-laden action thriller.” It follows two FBI agents who investigate a murder that has taken place inside the world’s most secure prison.
Casting on the movie is currently ongoing and production is set to start in mid-August.
David Weil and David J. Rosen, who are known for their work on the TV shows Hunters and Invasion, wrote the film. Smith will produce the movie for his company Westbrook.
Supermax will mark Smith’s first onscreen appearance since the 2024 film Bad Boys: Ride or Die. That movie was his first major film part after the 2022 incident in which he slapped presenter Chris Rock onstage at the 94th Academy Awards. It was the same night he won his best actor Oscar for portraying Richard Williams in the biopic King Richard.

(WASHINGTON) — Senators adopted a resolution by unanimous consent on Thursday to withhold their own pay during government shutdowns.
The legislation, which won’t take effect until after the November 2026 election, instructs the secretary of the Senate to place senators’ paychecks on hold during the duration of any future federal government shutdowns.
Those payments would be released to lawmakers only after the government reopens.
The Senate resolution does not need to be passed by the House or signed by President Donald Trump. While multiple similar House bills have been introduced, it’s unclear if legislation in the lower chamber will pass.
The measure in the Senate was introduced by Republican John Kennedy and advanced in a unanimous 99-0 vote on Wednesday.
“Take your brain with you, because this is about shared sacrifice. This is about putting our money where our mouth is,” Sen. Kennedy said on the Senate floor ahead of Wednesday’s vote.
Kennedy’s resolution comes after federal workers faced a historic 43-day government shutdown late last year caused by a deadlock between parties over Affordable Care Act subsidies.
During that time, approximately 670,000 federal workers were furloughed, 60,000 workers outside the federal government lost their jobs and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients lost out on benefits all while members of Congress continued to get paid — highlighting the disparity of financial pain endured by members of Congress and the people they serve.
Calls for withholding pay from members of Congress continued to grow this year during the record 75-day partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. Transportation Security Administration agents, Coast Guard members and other department employees went without pay as a stalemate played out on Capitol Hill over immigration enforcement funding and oversight reforms.

(RUIDOSO, N.M.) — All four people on board a small medical plane were killed when the flight crashed near Ruidoso, New Mexico, early Thursday, according to a local official.
The Beechcraft King Air 90 had departed from Roswell Air Center and was headed to Sierra Blanca Regional Airport when it crashed around 4 a.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
“All four individuals have been confirmed deceased at the scene,” Jason Burns, the manager of Lincoln County, where the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport is located, said at a news conference.
The crash was in a remote, wooded area, according to FlightRadar24. Fire officials, law enforcement and other agencies responded to a fire associated with the crash in the Capitan Mountain area, Burns said.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families, loved ones, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives,” Burns said.
The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA will investigate, the FAA said.

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, whose reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica made them household names, got divorced in 2006 and, according to Nick, hadn’t seen each other since — until they ran into each other on a flight to Hawaii in April. But, maybe surprisingly, Nick said it wasn’t awkward.
“It was strangely OK,” Nick told Bravo’s Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live! “You know it’s been 20 years since — and so we haven’t seen each other in those 20 years and then spent 6 1/2 hours on a flight to Hawaii together.”
Nick then clarified that they were simply “in the same vicinity” on the flight, they weren’t sitting together.
“Everyone was very very cordial, very respectful,” Nick added, noting that he was with his wife, Vanessa Lachey, and their three kids. As for Jessica, she was sitting with her mom, Nick said.
Nick added that he believed that Jessica’s three kids and their father, Eric Johnson, were seated in another section of the plane, but noted that he was unsure of Jessica and Eric’s status; they’ve reportedly been separated since 2025.
Overall, Nick said, “It was honestly, it was fine.”
A source told People in April of the encounter, “They all had a nice conversation. Nick, Jessica and Vanessa. It was very amicable and cordial.”
Nick, a member of 98 Degrees, and Jessica, a solo pop star, tied the knot in 2002 and split after four years. Nick married Vanessa in 2011; Jessica wed Eric in 2014.

The Rolling Stones are embracing their younger selves in the video for their latest single, “In the Stars.”
The official music video, directed by Francois Rousselet, is out now, with the clip centered around the band performing the song surrounded by other musicians, singers, and dancers from different eras and all walks of life. It also features Marty Supreme actress Odessa A’zion.
But it’s not The Stones of today that we see performing in the clip. The director uses deepfake technology, created by Deep Voodoo, to make it look like we’re watching ’70s-era Stones performing the track.
“Are you kidding me? It’s my dream,” A’zion says of appearing in the video. “The first record that I ever got that I listened to from start to finish was Tattoo You. I’m obsessed with The Rolling Stones. This is in my bucket list for sure.”
“In the Stars” is the first single off The Stones’ upcoming album, Foreign Tongues, which will be released July 10. The album is available for preorder now.

(NEW YORK) — The lead prosecutor in the Alex Murdaugh trial, Creighton Waters, said that he is “disappointed in the court’s decision” to vacate two murder convictions for Murdaugh, and that he hasn’t ruled out an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Speaking to George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America” Thursday morning, Waters said “we disagree” with the decision, but that “we respect the court and respect the process and we’ll continue on as we always do.”
The South Carolina Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned Murdaugh’s 2023 murder convictions in the deaths of his wife and younger son. The court said the court clerk had “improper external influence” on the jury, denying him a fair trial.
Murdaugh’s wife, Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh, 52, and son, Paul Murdaugh, 22, were found dead from multiple gunshot wounds near the dog kennels at the family’s hunting estate in 2021.
Murdaugh was convicted of murdering them following a six-week trial, with jurors deliberating for nearly three hours before reaching a guilty verdict.
Waters said that an appeal to the Supreme Court is “still on the table,” and that he and his team have 90 days to decide to do that, though he added that “probably our best best is just going to be to tee this thing up again.”
“There is some question among the law as to how do you apply these alleged jury tampering issues,” Waters said. “I think as we look at what’s best long term for this case and what’s best for justice, it’s to retry this case and do so as soon as we can.”
Following Wednesday’s decision, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said his office will “aggressively” seek to retry Murdaugh for the murders “as soon as possible” — possibly by the end of this year.
Murdaugh was also convicted on several financial crimes following the murder trial and is serving a 27-year sentence on state charges and a 40-year sentence on federal charges related to those crimes.
“Let me be clear — this decision does not mean Murdaugh will be released,” Wilson said in a statement. “He will remain in prison for his financial crimes. No one is above the law and, as always, we will continue to fight for justice.”
Murdaugh’s lawyers said they “look forward to a new trial conducted consistent with the Constitution.”
Murdaugh has continued to maintain his innocence about the deaths of his wife and son. His defense alleged that jury tampering and evidentiary errors — including the inclusion of his financial crimes — denied him a fair trial.
Murdaugh’s attorneys allege that Colleton County Clerk of Court Mary Rebecca “Becky” Hill tampered with the jury by “advising it not to believe Murdaugh’s testimony and other defense evidence, pressuring it to reach a quick guilty verdict, misrepresenting information to the trial court in an attempt to have the court remove a juror she believed to favor the defense.”
Hill denied these claims but would later resign from her position and pleaded guilty to two counts of misconduct while in office and one count each of obstruction of justice and perjury.
Waters, however, said he planned on being aggressive and was confident he could win in another trial.
“Assuming that we don’t decide to appeal any further, [we] are going to get this thing before a jury as soon as we can,” Waters said.
