Man dead, woman critically injured after home explosion in attempted murder-suicide

(PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.) — A man is dead and a woman was critically injured after a home exploded in Plainfield Township, Michigan, on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

The home was completely destroyed with debris on fire when deputies and fire personnel responded to the scene after nearly 50 calls reported an explosion and house fire around 4 a.m., according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

“The fire was intentionally set, we believe, by the husband at this point, intending to be a murder-suicide at the residence,” Kent County Undersheriff Bryan Muir told reporters.

Officials have not released the names of the man and woman in the explosion, but said they believe “the husband” set the fire, Muir said. The woman was associated with the address, according to authorities.

Two neighbors — a teenager who lived next door and another man who lived nearby — pulled the injured woman from the home after the explosion, according to the sheriff’s office. She was treated on the scene and taken to the hospital in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said.

“We are very proud of them for stepping up and helping someone in need during an extremely dangerous situation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“Without their actions, it is likely she would have perished in the fire. She has some significant medical-related issues right now and we are hoping for a recovery,” Muir said.

Hours later, a dead man, believed to be the person registered to the address, was found at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigators preliminarily believe a source of natural gas was released in the basement and used to start the fire, Alpine Township Fire Chief Jeremy Kelly said.

Investigators believe the explosion was a “domestic-related situation at the home,” Muir told reporters.

There are no concerns of any gas leaks or other home explosions in the area, Muir said.

“We want to relay to the family affected by this our deepest sorrows for having to deal with a situation so tragic,” Muir said.

‘Love Island USA’ asks its fans to ‘keep it kind’ ahead of upcoming season 8

As fans of Love Island USA anxiously wait for the season 8 cast to be revealed, the Peacock series has asked its viewers to be kind on social media.

The statement, which Love Island USA released to its Instagram on Wednesday, comes ahead of the season 8 premiere on June 2.

“The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community. We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected,” the statement reads. “This is a space for fun, not negativity — so keep it kind, keep it positive, and remember: this is LOVE Island!”

Love Island USA season 8 will once again take place in Fiji, with Ariana Madix returning as host.

The series follows singles who go on a search for love while living in a Fijian villa. “Throughout their stay in a tropical oasis, Islanders will couple up to face brand new heart-racing challenges and bigger twists and turns than ever before,” according to season 7’s official synopsis. “Temptations rise and drama ensues as new ‘bombshells’ arrive, forcing Islanders to decide if they want to remain with their current partners or recouple with someone new.”

Its companion series, Love Island USA Aftersun, recently gained two new hosts. As previously reported, Summer House star Ciara Miller will host the reality dating competition series’ aftershow alongside Tefi Pessoa. They take over from The Traitors star Maura Higgins. Coincidently, Higgins and Miller are confirmed to be competing against each other on the upcoming season 35 of Dancing with the Stars.

Ravyn Lenae welcomes fans into ‘Blue Island’ with release of new single, ‘Handle’

Ravyn Lenae is welcoming fans into Blue Island with her new album, set to arrive on Aug. 7.

The project marks her third studio album, one that finds her exploring “the full scope of her identity: the quirks, flirty energy, ‘teenage angst’ that often bleeds well into years outside its allotted window, as well as the quiet, lonely, ‘off-beat’ moments that happen when you are in the midst of a transformation,” according to a press release.

The album follows a year filled with both highs — including new opportunities — and lows, such as questions surrounding her Blackness and place within music spaces. It’s a project inspired by the desire to move forward and express herself, as did Black female artists like Santigold, Janet Jackson and Tracy Chapman, according to the release.

“‘Blue Island’ is a point of arrival, and feeling set in my ways and in who I am, and feeling free of any of those preconceived notions about Blackness or what I had to be in the past,” Ravyn said in a statement. “So I think now it’s fun to challenge the idea of what R&B is supposed to sound like, what pop is supposed to sound like … and really say ‘f*** all of that’ and do my own thing.”

As a result, the album finds Ravyn incorporating influences from The Sundays, Blondie, The Cranberries and Martin Rev, as well as the “dramatic chorus structures and high vocal tones of Bollywood soundtracks,” into her signature sound.

Ravyn kicks off Blue Island with the release of “Handle,” out now with an accompanying music video featuring choreography from New York-based movement director Akira Uchida. The visual marks the first time many fans will see Ravyn incorporate choreography into her artistry.

Riley Green and Zac Top square off at Rock ‘N Jock Celebrity Softball Game

The teammates have been chosen for Monday’s Rock ‘N Jock Celebrity Softball Game at Nashville’s First Horizon Park.

Riley Green will be team captain for Team Military, playing alongside Gavin Adcock, RaeLynn, Jordan Davis, Warren Zeiders, Jessie James Decker, Eric Decker and more.

Team First Responders will be led by Zach Top, with Roger Clemens, Jay Cutler, HARDY, Ashley Cooke, Priscilla Block, Zach John King, Parker McCollum, Chris Lane, Waka Flocka Flame and more filling out the roster.

Journey’s Jonathan Cain says it’s time to say farewell: ‘We’re just repeating ourselves’

Journey is currently out on their Final Frontier Tour, which is scheduled through the end of November, and keyboardist Jonathan Cain says the band’s retirement is coming at the right time.

Describing the tour as “a grind,” Cain tells the Rock & Roll High School podcast, “I think the only reason I’m still out here is the fans, you know? It’s time for me to close the chapter. It’s a beautiful time to say goodbye, for me.”

Cain notes, “After playing the stadium tour with Def Leppard last year, I just felt like we’d done it. And we’re just repeating ourselves. The new albums don’t seem to move the needle. That’s why I’ve gotten into Christian music, because I can still sing a melody there and praise the Lord, and it still, you know, gets received.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Cain talks about Journey’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Former lead singer Steve Perry did join them onstage for the honor, but he didn’t sing with them, which Cain says he’s still surprised about.

“I was certain — I would have bet money he would’ve changed his mind and come and sang ‘Lights’ with us or something, but he didn’t, which was weird,” Cain says. “I would have bet money that he was gonna come to soundcheck the day before and show up. I kept looking in the wings and he never came.”

Cain also owns up to starting a rumor that Perry might pop up at some point during the farewell tour. “He got wind of it and immediately shot it down,” Cain said. “I always had said that he’s welcome on our stage any time. And he knows that that’s an open invitation. And he might still change his mind, we never know.”

Zac Efron to star in ‘Angel Heart’ series for HBO, A24

Zac Efron has found his next role.

The actor is set to executive produce and star in an Angel Heart series for HBO and A24, ABC Audio has confirmed.

Angel Heart will be a one-hour drama written and executive produced by Black Rabbit creator Zach Baylin. The show will be based on the 1978 horror novel Falling Angel, which was previously adapted into the Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro film Angel Heart in 1987, as well as its sequel, Angel’s Inferno. Shōgun‘s Jonathan Van Tulleken is set to direct and executive produce.

According to its logline, this new series follows a “down-and-out NYC paparazzi, who makes his living finding and photographing people who don’t want to be found.”

He is eventually “hired by a mysterious man to find a missing woman. But the deeper he digs to find her, the more it looks like a group of powerful elites, and maybe something supernatural, are covering up the disappearance,” the logline continues.

Efron previously worked with A24 on the 2023 sports drama film The Iron Claw. He is set to appear in the upcoming thriller Famous from director Jody Hill. He’ll also star alongside Will Ferrell in the new movie Judgment Day from director Nicholas Stoller.

DMX’s estate announces posthumous book, ‘The Gospel According to DMX’

Another posthumous release from DMX is on the way — this time in the form of a book. The Gospel According to DMX, authorized by the rapper’s estate and curated by co-administrators Desiree Lindstrom and Sasha Simmons, will be released Nov. 17 via Simon & Schuster.

The book is a “collection of Earl Simmons’ spiritual writings, prayers, sermons, and select lyrics” that “offer an intimate window into the private devotions of a man whose faith was as fierce as his artistry.” Readers should not expect a traditional religious or doctrinal text, however, as the book also includes profanity, mature themes and explicit language.

The book also features a foreword by fellow hip-hop artist Rakim, along with never-before-seen archival material presented in its original form.

The Gospel According to DMX, now available for preorder, appears to take its name from audio featured in the announcement on the late rapper’s Instagram.

“I came here to meet somebody and tell them about the glory of God. Before you know it, I’ll be back doing what I’m supposed to be doing. The gospel according to X,” DMX says in the clip.

His legacy will also continue through the upcoming Becoming DMX podcast, hosted by Jadakiss, produced by 50 Cent and set to debut this summer.

Despite rumors, filmmakers say Taylor Swift hasn’t done the end title song for ‘Toy Story 5’

The filmmakers behind Toy Story 5 are shooting down rumors that Taylor Swift has written the movie’s end title song.

On April 30, Taylor posted — and then removed — a countdown on her website that seemed to be Toy Story-coded. It featured blue skies, white clouds and the same shade of yellow used in the franchise’s branding.

When fans noticed that Toy Story 5‘s release date, June 19, also marks the 20th anniversary of her debut single, rumors flew that Taylor was somehow involved in the franchise’s latest installment.

But in a new interview, Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton says of the rumors, “It surprised us. We’d be frickin’ honored.” Producer Lindsey Collins adds that having Taylor involved would “be pretty amazing.”

“The sad truth is, we watched the movie being mixed last week, done, and the song on the end of that was not Taylor Swift’s song,” Stanton clarifies.

Of course, that doesn’t preclude the movie from featuring a Taylor tune somewhere, since he specifically said “the song on the end.” Guess we’ll have to wait until June 19 to find out.

The mystery of the disappearing countdown, however, has yet to be explained.

U2 joins Shane MacGowan tribute album

U2 has been added to the track list for the upcoming tribute album to late Pogues frontman and fellow Irish artist Shane MacGowan.

Bono and company have put their spin on the Pogues song “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah” for the compilation, due out Nov. 13.

The album, titled 20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan, also includes Bruce Springsteen’s previously released cover of “A Rainy Night in Soho.” Other contributing artists include Hozier, who sings the holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” alongside Oscar-winning actress Jessie Buckley, Dropkick Murphys, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Waits and The Pogues themselves.

MacGowan died in 2023 at age 65.

The Pogues reunited in 2024 and launched a U.S. tour in 2025 featuring original members Spider Stacy, Jem Finer and James Fearnley alongside guest vocalists and musicians.

Inflation hits highest level in nearly 3 years, Fed’s preferred gauge shows

(WASHINGTON) — Inflation jumped for a second consecutive month in April as the Iran war drove up gasoline prices and strained household budgets, government data on Thursday showed.

Prices rose 3.8% in April compared to a year earlier, according to the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index, an inflation gauge preferred by the Federal Reserve. The PCE stood at 2.8% as recently as February.

Inflation now stands at its highest level since May 2023, the Commerce Department report showed.

The savings rate, meanwhile, fell to 2.6%, its lowest level since 2022, suggesting some strapped consumers are struggling to stash away extra funds.

A persistent increase in consumer prices may put pressure on the Fed to raise interest rates as a means of dialing back inflation. The latest reading comes days after Fed Chair Kevin Warsh began a four-year term atop the central bank.

For now, futures markets overwhelmingly expect the Fed to hold interest rates steady when policy makers meet next month, according to the CME FedWatch Tool, a measure of investor sentiment.

However, markets peg the chances of a quarter-point rate increase by the end of the year at more than one in three, well above where odds of a rate hike stood prior to the war, the tool shows.

The benchmark interest rate stands at a level between 3.5% and 3.75%. That figure marks a significant drop from a recent peak attained in 2023, but borrowing costs remain well above a 0% rate established at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Middle East conflict prompted the Iranian closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime trading route that facilitates the transport of about one-fifth of global oil supply. The standoff triggered one of the largest oil shocks ever recorded.

As a result, gasoline prices surged. The price of an average gallon of gas stood at $4.42 as of Thursday, AAA data showed – an increase of $1.44 per gallon since the war began on Feb. 28. That amounts to a 48% price jump in about three months.
