Back in 2020, Mariah Carey said she was “talking about” turning her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, into a biopic, telling Jimmy Fallon, “I really feel like it should [be a movie]; that was always my goal.” Now it seems she may have found a director.

Lee Daniels, who directed Mariah in the film Precious, posted a video on Instagram of him and Mariah together. “Here we are again,” he said. “With all different eras of our lives.”

“With Leeeeee!” Mariah squealed, throwing her arms around the director.

“Getting ready to go on another journey, Oh my God,” Daniels concluded.

He captioned the post, “The Meaning of Mariah … A long time coming … I love this woman!”

When asked recently by BuzzFeed if she planned to tour the world in 2025, Mariah said, “I know that I’m working on a project that needs to be finished, so I don’t think I can go on a world tour. I would if I were able to finish the project while on tour, but I can’t.”

Could she have been referring to a movie? Stay tuned.

Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz are Back in Action.

The pair star side by side in a brand-new, action-packed teaser for the new film Back in Action, coming to Netflix in January.

“Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily (Cameron Diaz) and Matt (Jamie Foxx) find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown,” a synopsis for the movie reads.

“You know that I love our life right?” Emily asks Matt in the teaser. “But tonight, something clicked.”

She continues, “For the first time in a really long time, I felt alive again.”

The brief conversation kicks off a teaser filled with the two fighting opponents, parachuting off a mountain and explaining their complicated past to their children.

“I knew you guys were lying about something but I never thought you were cool enough to be spies,” one of their children says, moments before the couple swerves out of a nasty car wreck.

Back in Action marks Diaz’s first film since 2014.

Foxx was hospitalized last April during production on Back in Action for an undisclosed “medical complication.” He has since made a recovery.

The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix Jan. 17.

Boyz II Men are getting the biopic treatment, Variety reports. The group has teamed with production and financing companies Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave to develop a narrative feature film, which will feature songs from the group’s discography. A long-form documentary about their success in the ’90s, 2000s and today is also in the works, with Compelling behind the production.

“We’ve been waiting to find the right partners who understand our story and are willing to tell it all,” said Nathan Morris, who serves as executive producer alongside members Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris. “Denis [O’ Sullivan] and Jeff [Kalligheri] at Compelling Pictures understood us day 1.”

“Having grown up as huge fans of Boyz II Men, and having spent the past couple of years getting to know the guys and become friends with them, it’s a tremendous honor to help bring their unique and untold story to the big screen,” added Denis and Jeff. “We’re excited to show the brotherhood and comradery, as well as the challenges and strife, humor and heartbreak, that has accompanied the unparalleled success that Nate, Shawn, Wanya, and Mike have worked so hard to achieve.”

Joining them on the producer side of things are Larry Mestel for Primary Wave, the group’s manager, Joe Mulvihill, for the Mulvi Group and Jeremy M. Rosen for Roxwell Films.

“Being with them for over 22 years now, I’ve seen the highs the lows and all the in-depth emotional human turmoil. I think people will be pleasantly surprised to see behind the curtain,” Mulvihill says.

Cody Johnson was surprised by his CMA Album of the Year nod

It’s no secret that a deluxe Leather wasn’t originally part of Cody Johnson‘s plan. He initially planned for it to be an expansive one-release project, until Warner Music Nashville co-chair and co-president Cris Lacy gave him the idea of breaking the album into two parts.

That’s why Leather getting nominated for CMA Album of the Year caught Cody by surprise.

“I wanted the deluxe edition and Leather to be like one thing. And then we got nominated for Album of the Year and I was like, ‘Wait a minute. The rest of the album’s not out yet,'” Cody recounts to the press. “And everybody kind of went, ‘Well, we didn’t vote for it. It just kind of happened.'”

“And I thought, ‘Well, you know what? Everything happens for a reason.’ And I’m not going to complain about being nominated for Album of the Year,” he shares with a laugh.

Leather Deluxe Edition, featuring the Carrie Underwood-assisted “I’m Gonna Love You,” is out now.

Cody has also been nominated in other categories, including Single, Song, Male Vocalist and Music Video of the Year.

The 2024 CMAs, hosted by Luke BryanPeyton Manning and Lainey Wilson, will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.

Many artists have spoken out about the negative effect social media has had on them. Shawn Mendes has added his two cents on the topic — and warned any hopefuls out there to protect themselves.

Speaking to Zane Lowe of The Zane Lowe Show at Apple Music 1, Shawn says, “When you have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people projecting their opinion of who they think you [are] and why they think you’re that onto you … the human brain is fragile.”

He continues, “It’s sad because I think about little Shawn, like 15-, 16-year-old Shawn, who is just trying to do his best job and has no idea. No one told him, ‘Hey, dude, you’re in for one because having hundreds of thousands of people daily tell you what they think about you, it’s going to be really intense on the psyche. It’s going to mess you up a little bit.'”

Then Shawn issued his warning: “If you’re an artist and you’re 15 years old and you’re getting started right now, if there’s one thing I could tell you it’s protect yourself from social media. Protect yourself from the masses and what they think about you.”

Someone who’s taking Shawn’s advice is his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello, who wrote on her Instagram Story Thursday, “a writer must have stories. living them right now. taking some cute little internet breaks. love you my babies.”

Shawn tells Zane of Camila, “I think we haven’t been the closest over the last couple of years, but I think we really know each other. We’ve spent a lot of time together. We really know each other’s hearts … and it’s just nice to have that.” Shawn’s new album, SHAWN, comes out Friday.

Sterling K. Brown reunites with his This Is Us producer Dan Fogelman in the forthcoming Hulu political thriller Paradise.

The streamer just dropped a suspenseful trailer for the project, which shows Brown as Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent who lands in the hot seat when his charge — President Cal Bradford — is found dead on Collins’ watch.

Hulu teases, “Paradise is set in a serene, wealthy community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs and a high stakes investigation unfolds.”

“You were the last person to see Cal alive. Did you kill him?” Collins is asked during an interrogation, which he denies.

The trailer shows Brown’s character briefed on highly classified information at the president’s specific request and snippets of the chaos apparently unfolding from that, both abroad and at home.

One of his interrogators, played by Sarah Shahi, asks him “Is a part of you glad that Cal is dead?” before unfolding her hand to reveal “SAY YES” written on her palm.

James Marsden plays the POTUS in the thriller, which also stars Julianne NicholsonNicole Brydon Bloom, Percy Daggs IV and Aliyah Mastin.

The series kicks off with three episodes on Hulu on Jan. 28; subsequent episodes will drop weekly.
