Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlile are executive producers on a new Apple TV documentary called Come See Me in the Good Light, and they’ve also teamed up to record a duet for the project.

The documentary, which is now streaming, is about the late Colorado Poet Laureate Andrea Gibson and wife Megan Falley, who faced Gibson’s incurable cancer diagnosis together. Gibson died in July of this year. While it sounds like an incredibly heavy topic, Sara tells Variety, “It’s so funny. You watch this film and Andrea is … hysterically funny, as is Meg. So you’re laughing a lot, and it’s just a joyful, life-affirming film that happens to be about cancer.”

Sara was also given the words of an unfinished poem by Gibson to use for a song for the end credits; she then tapped Brandi to turn it into a duet.”Salt Then Sour Then Sweet” is streaming now.

“Andrea didn’t want to leave people with some kind of broken-hearted, achy song. They wanted a love song for Meg, and so that’s what we wrote,” Sara tells Variety.

In a video on Instagram describing her involvement in the project, Sara refers to her breakthrough hit by joking, “I finally did write someone a love song — and it was Andrea Gibson.”

The song has already been nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award.

Meanwhile, Sara tells Variety that she has a new record coming out early next year, which is about “pretty much about grief.” “I’ve been going through a lot of loss these last few years,” she explains. However, she notes that grief “cracks you open in this way that I think is really important and helpful, ultimately, if you can sort of endure what’s hard about it.”

The SAG Awards are getting a new name.

SAG-AFTRA has announced that the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards will be renamed to The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA. This change will come into effect starting with the 32nd edition of the awards ceremony in 2026.

According to the guild, which announced the name change on Friday, this decision was made in order to align the show’s name with the physical statuette itself, which is known as The Actor.

“Evolving the show’s name to align with the award itself made obvious sense,” SAG-AFTRA said in a FAQ section on its website. “We wanted to provide clearer recognition in terms of what the show is about for our domestic and global audiences – we honor actors in film and television. Laser-focusing the name on those two things became the clearest and most straightforward path for this new chapter of the show.”

The guild also said that as the awards ceremony has expanded its global audience due to streaming on Netflix, the timing felt right to make the name change so as to “step confidently into the show’s next era.”

Actor Award nominations will be announced on Jan. 7, 2026. Because campaigning began before the announcement of the name change, the guild acknowledged that For Your Consideration campaigns can continue to refer to the ceremony as the SAG Awards for the time being. However, SAG-AFTRA has asked studios, networks and platforms to switch to the new name after the nominations are announced.

“We understand there will be a period of transition where people – past winners and audiences included – will still refer to their award and the show as the SAG Awards, and that’s OK,” the guild said in its FAQ. “We know it’ll take time to adjust to the change.”

He writes on Instagram that “The Day That I Die” is “about the lowest I’ve felt in my life and truth be told it feels a bit weird putting it out there for people to hear but I’m honestly the proudest I’ve ever been about a song with this one.” He adds that it’s been “an absolute pleasure” to return to performing live and releasing new music.

Max McNown has surprised fans with a five-song EP called Both Sides of the Blade. The stripped-down collection was written and recorded during the time he released his 2024 EP, Willfully Blind. The B-52sKate Pierson has released a cover of Patti Smith’s classic tune “People Have the Power,” featuring the teens of Uniting Voices Chicago, a nonprofit that “empowers and unites youth from diverse backgrounds to find their voice and celebrate their common humanity through the power of music.”

“[Its] dream of peace, empowerment and hope feels more urgent now than ever,” Pierson says of the tune, which Smith wrote with her husband, the late Fred “Sonic” Smith. “And what better way to bring this to a new generation than to feature the powerful young voices of Uniting Voices Chicago.”

“Taking this on was daunting. Patti Smith has always been one of my greatest inspirations—as a performer, a poet, a writer—and I’ve seen her perform this song many times. Every time, she lifts the audience into absolute ecstasy,” she adds. “I knew the only way I could approach a cover was to create something different enough to be true to myself, yet still honor the soul and message of the original.”

Finally Pierson notes, “The lyrics are beautiful, poetic and visionary – but still the meaning rings clear – people do have the power – and we need to use it now!”

“People Have the Power” is now available via digital outlets.

Proceeds from the song will go to Uniting Voices Chicago and Sandy Hook Promise.

Even though Carly Pearce‘s new single is titled “Dream Come True,” it’s a bittersweet one, as Carly confronts the sacrifices she’s made to cement her success.

“A few years ago, I moved into a house in a quiet cul-de-sac on my own, surrounded by women my age with husbands and growing families,” she wrote on her socials. “It was a reminder of the quiet sacrifices that come with chasing a dream. Mine have looked like missing milestones, living with my personal life on display, and riding the highs and lows of this wild career.”

Carly co-wrote “Dream Come True,” which is the first taste of her upcoming fifth album.

“I wrote this song about those sacrifices we make when chasing our dreams,” she continues. “If you’ve ever felt that push and pull, know that you’re not alone. Writing this song has allowed me to return to my original dream, to reconnect with my roots and why I first fell in love with singing country music.”

You can check out Carly’s music video for “Dream Come True,” which was shot largely in one take, on YouTube.

Billy Idol has just dropped the new song “Dying to Live,” featuring composer J. Ralph. The song appears at the end of his documentary, Billy Idol Should Be Dead, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in June.

The song’s accompanying video features photos and footage from Idol’s life and career, including home movies, performance clips and more, combined with animated segments.

“It’s quite something watching a documentary about your own life,” Idol says. “Seeing the landscape of my story all laid out inspired me to want to write a song for the end of the film that brings together what I saw in the film; all the strands of my life really.”

He adds, “It was thrilling to work together with J. Ralph. Symphonic music has a unique cinematic authenticity, we felt this was essential to capturing the range of emotions the climactic moment of the film called for.”

Billy Idol Should Be Dead, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, is expected to be released in theaters and on streaming services in early 2026.

Idol released the new album Dream Into It in April. It was his first full-length album since 2014’s Kings & Queens of the Underground.

Teyana Taylor is no stranger to the public eye, but with several films now under her belt, she says it’s pretty difficult to be a Black woman in Hollywood.

“The hardest part is being a woman in Hollywood,” she tells Elle. “The even harder part is being a Black woman in Hollywood, because I do feel like this is a man’s world. And we have to show who we are as women to be respected in that space.”

Despite the hardships, she says she does see “change happening” and “more light being shed on women.”

“I think it’s because we’re busting through the doors, unapologetically us. We’re not giving anybody a choice: you will see us and you will hear us. And if you don’t, we’re going to make you,” Teyana says. “Seeing women step into our glory and standing 10 toes down in some red bottoms has been amazing. We’re really stomping through, and that’s what I love about being a woman in Hollywood. We’re going to make you hear us.”

In her own journey, she credits women like Taraji P. Henson, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, Issa Rae, Kerry Washington and Regina Hall for showing up for her.

“To be able to call on my village, and then they all show up in a heartbeat, no hesitation, feels good,” Teyana tells Elle. “Their support felt like a comforting hug that whispered, ‘Mm-hmm, it’s okay. We got you.'”

“To see such beautiful women who have overcome so much and kept their crowns lifted through it all, show up for me. It really, really meant a lot,” she continues.

The full interview, in which Teyana also opens up about her experience in culinary school, is live on Elle.com.
