In 1982, Peter Gabriel launched the WOMAD Festival, which stood for World of Music, Arts and Dance, and now he’s revisiting one of his performances for a new digital album.

The very first WOMAD Festival took place in Somerset, England, and featured 60 bands from over 20 countries. The new album, Live at WOMAD 1982, features a recording of Gabriel’s Friday night set. It included seven songs from his album 4, which was released two months after the event.

“I remember this gig well,” says Gabriel. “We played a mix of old and brand-new material. I would normally be very nervous about playing some of this stuff for the first time, however my mind was very preoccupied with the running of our very first WOMAD festival and the potential financial disaster that it was heading towards.”

It turned out the initial WOMAD Festival wasn’t a financial success and in October of that year Gabriel reunited with Genesis for a concert at Milton Keynes Bowl in Buckinghamshire, England — the money from that gig bailed him out financially. The WOMAD Festival was then able to continue, and since its inception, there have been more than 160 editions of the WOMAD Festival in 27 countries.

Live at WOMAD 1982 will be released to digital services on Friday. The first single, “The Rhythm of the Heat,” is now available.

Here is the track list for the album:
“San Jacinto”
“The Family and the Fishing Net”
“I Have the Touch”
“Lay Your Hands on Me”
“Shock the Monkey”
“I Go Swimming”
“The Rhythm of the Heat”
“Kiss of Life”
“Biko”

Watch Mariah Carey find out live on the radio that Katy Perry went to space

It must be nice to live in a bubble like Mariah Carey. While everyone seemed to have an opinion about Katy Perry‘s Blue Origin trip into space in April with Gayle KingLauren Sánchez Bezos and others, Mariah was evidently completely unaware of this — and she found out live on the air during an appearance on British radio.

While appearing on BBC Radio’s Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Thursday, Mariah was asked if she’d one day like to go to space, like Katy did. “Did she go to space?” Mariah asked. “Where’d she go?” When told that Katy “went into orbit and back,” Mariah responded, “She’s, like, floating … and this is true?”

When Scott assured Mariah that he didn’t make it up, Mariah responded, “Wow. Alright Katy.” When Scott added that she was “proper in space,” Mariah said, “I’m not mad at her. That’s pretty amazing.”

When asked if she would like to go to space, Mariah laughed, “I think I’ve done enough.”

Katy’s space trip was criticized by many as being tone-deaf, a waste of money and worse. Even the fast-food chain Wendy’s wrote on X, “Can we send her back?” and “When we said women in stem this isn’t what we meant.” Coupled with the simultaneous criticism of her current album and her onstage dancing, Katy seemed to be constantly under fire. But in the comments of a fan Instagram account at the time, she said she was taking it in stride.

“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”

Meghan Patrick has her biggest U.S. hit so far with “Golden Child.”

Already a star in her native Canada, she found it particularly thrilling to watch the premiere of the song’s video on CMT’s billboard in New York City.

“Getting to see my video in Times Square was a once in a lifetime moment,” she reflects. “While I sat and watched the video, I became really emotional but I just kept thinking about all of the times that I’ve thought about giving up and somehow found the strength to keep going. Getting to sit in that joy and experience that with my team is a moment I’ll never forget, and a strong reminder of why I never gave up.”

The “Golden Child” video traces the relationship of a lifelong group of friends, as slumber parties morph into late night drinks and they support each other through an instance of domestic violence. You can check it out on YouTube now.

“Golden Child” has already cracked the top 10 in Canada, while it’s just broken into the top 40 in the U.S.

The Beach Boys Brian Wilson, who passed away in June at the age of 82, has been laid to rest, according to an Instagram post by one of his daughters, Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson

“Today we laid my Daddy to rest,” she shared on Wednesday. “It was incredibly difficult to see that happen, but at the same time it gave more closure and more of a feeling of restful peace.”

“The last eight weeks have been extremely challenging and like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I love and miss him so much and I wish he could come back,” she added.

Carnie went on to say her dad keeps sending her signs “and I know he’s around,” adding, “I’m so grateful for this.”

“Today we had a couple of monarch butterflies that just would not leave the site. It was comforting and beautiful,” she shared. “I’m trying to deal with my emotions -they’re so up and down. I know that he would want everybody to feel happy and not sad. He didn’t like it when I cried.”

Carnie said she was reminded by her friend Gunner Nelson, son of the late Ricky Nelson, that her dad will be remembered every day through his music.

“This is a really special and a real heavy duty thought. It’s much bigger than I can wrap my head around,” she wrote. “For this I am grateful for though because I know it’s the truth.”

“So I just wanna say thank you… thank you Daddy for your beautiful contribution to so much happiness and real raw emotions that you have brought to people,” she concluded the post. “Thank you to all the beautiful loving and supportive fans out there for honoring him. We share this together. God knows what we’d be without him.”

Nine Inch Nails launched the U.S. leg of their Peel It Back world tour Wednesday in Oakland, California, and the show featured the live debut of their new single, “As Alive as You Need Me to Be.”

The track was part of the concert’s B-stage segment, where Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were joined by the producer Boys Noize, with whom they worked on the [MIXED] edition of their Challengers soundtrack.

Wednesday’s show also marked NIN’s first with returning drummer Josh Freese, who previously played with Reznor and company from 2005 to 2008. Freese announced he was back in NIN in July after being let go from Foo Fighters in May. He’d been drumming in Dave Grohl‘s band since 2023 following the 2022 death of Taylor Hawkins.

“As Alive as You Need Me to Be” is the first single off NIN’s soundtrack to the Disney film Tron: Ares, due out Sept. 19. While Reznor and Ross have long scored films together, the Tron: Ares soundtrack is being specifically released as a Nine Inch Nails project.

The Peel It Back tour continues Friday in Portland, Oregon.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been friends for a long time. How long? Long enough that Selena got to hear her 2008 song “Love Story” before it was even released.

On the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, Selena talked about how she and Taylor first became besties when she was dating Nick Jonas and Taylor was dating Joe Jonas. Those relationships didn’t last, but their friendship did and, Selena notes, “all the ups and downs that came after.”

Selena told Jake, “I believe ‘Love Story’ was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet. … It was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly.”

“It was one of those songs I instantly heard and thought, ‘This is one of the most beautiful songs ever,'” she added. “It was so sweet. She was like, ‘OK, I just want to play you this song … I dunno, it’s gonna be the first single, I think?'”

As for her own music career, Selena said that, like fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus, she’s not interested in touring.

“There became a point on tour for me where I noticed that every single person around me, I was paying. So [it] … sometimes felt very transactional,” she explained. She added, “Touring is very lonely.”

She mused, “I wonder if there’s maybe a new way of touring that I could do? … Because the greatest gift is being able to share your music with all of those people in the room with you.”

On This Day, Aug. 7, 1987: Lindsey Buckingham quit Fleetwood Mac A

On This Day, Aug. 7, 1987 …

Lindsey Buckingham quit Fleetwood Mac, one day after a contentious group meeting at Christine McVie’s house led to a physical altercation between him and Stevie Nicks.

With a tour starting in a month, the band replaced Lindsey with Billy Burnette and Rick Vito and hit the road for the Shake the Cage Tour.

Buckingham would eventually return to Fleetwood Mac when they reunited in 1993 to perform “Don’t Stop” at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration. They then reunited in 1997 for a live concert, which was recorded for the live album The Dance and followed by an arena tour.

Buckingham remained with Fleetwood Mac until 2018, when he was fired over a disagreement about touring. He was again replaced by two guitarists, Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell.

The current future of Fleetwood Mac is uncertain, but Buckingham and Nicks recently announced the reissue of Buckingham Nicks, their only studio album as a duo. The album will be reissued on Sept. 19.

Trivium has premiered a new single called “Bury Me with My Screams.”

Trivium plans to debut “Bury Me with My Screams” during their set at England’s Bloodstock festival on Friday. In the meantime, you can watch the video for “Bury Me with My Screams” on YouTube.
