John Fogerty wanted to tag CCR rerecordings ‘Taylor’s Version’ on ’Legacy’ album

John Fogerty‘s new album, Legacy, includes rerecorded versions of classic Creedence Clearwater Revival songs like “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” Each track on the album is tagged “John’s Version,” a nod to Taylor Swift‘s own rerecording project. As it turns out, Fogerty wanted to be even more direct with his reference to the pop star.

“I wanted them to call [the rerecordings] Taylor’s Version,” Fogerty tells Billboard. “I lobbied for that: ‘You want this to sell? Call it ‘Taylor’s.'”

Swift started her rerecording process after her master recordings to her first six studio albums were purchased by music mogul Scooter Braun in 2019. Braun later sold the masters to a private equity firm, from which Swift finally purchased them in May 2025.

Similarly, Fogerty decided to record Legacy after fully regaining the rights to his CCR catalog.

“I was so happy to see her solution to her predicament … I was applauding her doing [the rerecordings],” Fogerty says. “I’m convinced that her rerecording those albums in many ways reset the condition, so that she was able to purchase the originals. She was strong enough and powerful enough a force that she rearranged the playing field.”

Legacy is out now.

Shaboozey will be “walking” into movie theaters in September as part of the latest Stephen King film adaptation.

The “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer has recorded a new song, “Took a Walk,” for the end titles of the movie The Long Walk, which will be out Sept. 12. The song hits digital platforms Sept. 5.

Shaboozey first got involved with the project when Lionsgate, the studio releasing the movie, asked for permission to use his song “Last of My Kind” in the trailer. But after he saw the film, he was inspired to write a completely new song.

“I really felt for these characters. These guys seemingly have no future, but hold on tight to the idea of hope — a better life, a better world. It felt familiar,” Shaboozey says in a statement. He collaborated on the song with, among others, Stephen J. Wilson, who also contributed guitar.

The movie feels timeless and soulful, so I thought Stephen’s guitar would be the perfect complement to leave fans with a song that feels timeless,” Shaboozey adds.

Based on the 1979 novel The Long Walk, which King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, the movie is set in a dystopian future where young men can win the prize of a lifetime by participating in an annual contest: They have to walk along a predetermined route, but if they don’t maintain a speed of at least 3 miles an hour, they’ll be shot. The walk ends when there’s only one man left.

There’s quite a story behind the Grand Ole Opry’s new “full circle mix” of the George Jones classic “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”

Jones’ signature tune, written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman, is widely considered one of the greatest country songs of all time. In the new version, Jones sings the first verse in a performance from the Opry stage on June 12, 1993.

Through the use of modern technology, Alan Jackson picks up the second verse during his May 2, 2013, homage from the Opry stage at Jones’ funeral.

The “full circle” mix of “He Stopped Loving Her Today” is the second release from Opry 100: Country’s Greatest Songs following Ashley McBryde‘s version of Hank Williams‘ “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” which came out in July.

The full 20-track album arrives Nov. 7.

Former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom “TC” Constanten is battling lung cancer, and the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is raising money to help support him.

Donated funds will go toward covering Constanten’s medical bills, as well as “other vital living expenses.”

“Over the years I have experienced such generosity that it boggles the mind,” Constanten says. “I count my wealth in friends, and it’s a blessing I’d never want to trade away. Still, situations change and things come up.”

“Sweet Relief is honored to help Tom during this difficult time in his life,” adds Sweet Relief Executive Director Aric Steinberg. “Our Directed Artist Funds can provide a meaningful solution when the community rallies around the recipient, and we know that Tom’s community cares about him deeply. His influence on the musical landscape with the Grateful Dead is long-lasting, and he has touched many people around the world.”

For more info, visit SweetRelief.org.

Constanten played on the Grateful Dead records Anthem of the Sun and Aoxomoxoa, released in 1968 and 1969, respectively, as well as the 1969 live album Live/Dead. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Dead in 1994.

During Jonas Brothers‘ current tour, they’ve welcomed special guests at some of their tour stops, but their Saturday show at Boston’s Fenway Park upped the ante. Not only did they have three special guests, but Kevin Jonas did something onstage he’s never done before: performed a solo song.

The guests included Dashboard Confessional‘s Chris Carrabba, who performed “Vindicated” and the Jonas Brothers song “Take a Breath” with Joe Jonas, Kevin and Nick Jonas. Jesse McCartney also popped up to perform a medley of his hit “Beautiful Soul” and the JoBros’ song “Leavin’.”

Plus, JoJo showed up to perform her signature tune “Leave (Get Out)” with the brothers, as well as their song “Vacation Eyes,” and actor Glen Powell introduced the band onstage.

But fans were really excited about the fact that Kevin debuted a solo song called “Changing.” “I’m super nervous, so bear with me,” Kevin can be heard saying in fan-shot footage. Kevin is the only member of the Jonas Brothers who has never released a solo song. It’s not clear if or when the song will be officially released.

The group wrote on Instagram following the show, “FENWAY. No words. Thank you.” Fans clamored for “Changing” in the comments, writing, “We need Kevin’s song on Spotify and the other platforms asap” and “We’ve done our waiting. Twenty years of it. Drop Kevin’s song immediately.”

The Who is currently on a North American farewell tour, but if you’re hoping it will be accompanied by new music, Roger Daltrey has one specific condition.

When asked if he’d want to make another Who album, Daltrey tells The New York Times, “No, there’d be nothing in it for me, unless I co-wrote the songs with Pete [Townshend].”

“I would love to write songs with Pete,” the vocalist continues. “I wanted that for a long time. As good as his songs have been, who knows what might have been if we’d collaborated?”

Townshend, of course, has long been the main songwriter of The Who and wrote the band’s most recent album, 2019’s Who, nearly completely by himself.

As for whether Townshend would be open to writing with him, Daltrey says that his bandmate’s response has been “Go away.”

“He wanted to keep it to himself,” Daltrey says.

Elsewhere in the Times interview, Townshend shares that he “got readdicted to painkillers” after undergoing a knee operation earlier in 2025.

“I’d gone through severe alcohol addiction for many years, then narcotics,” Townshend says. “I’d been clean for over 30 years. I called a close friend who’s working for a recovery clinic in Spain, and he got my head sorted out. I’m feeling really good at the moment.”

Royel Otis performed their cover of “Murder on the Dancefloor” during the weekend’s Reading festival in England alongside the song’s original artist, Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

“Good to see you, it’s been awhile,” Ellis-Bextor told the Reading crowd. “I don’t think any of you were born when I last played here.”

“Murder on the Dancefloor” was released in 2001, but saw a resurgence following its use in the 2023 movie Saltburn. Royel Otis recorded their version first for Australia’s triple j in 2024 before officially releasing it as a single.

Royel Otis released a new album, hickey, on Friday. It includes the single “moody.”
