Charles Kelley is a member of the Grammy-winning country group Lady A, but lately he’s been stepping out solo with Songs For a New Moon. The album of ’80s-inspired pop includes his hit song “Can’t Lose You.” While he hasn’t announced a solo tour, on Wednesday he played a solo show at Exit/In, a legendary Nashville club.

“WHAT A NIGHT. Nashville y’all showed up, and I’m still buzzing from that energy,” he shared on his socials Thursday. “Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, showed up and spent their Wednesday night with us. Forever grateful for this album and the people who have been along this journey with me.”

One of the people who attended the show was Charles’ Lady A bandmate Hillary Scott.

“It was SUCH a fun night!” she commented. “It sounded amazing and we loved watching you live out your 80s music-loving dreams.”

Charles’ wife, Cassie Kelley, added, “It was next level. so proud of you!”

Songs From a New Moon was heavily influenced by the smooth sounds of yacht rock and features a cover of Cyndi Lauper‘s “Time After Time.”

Charles has one more solo gig coming up: He’ll play Y Live at Wean Park in Youngstown, Ohio, Sept. 26 alongside John Mayer

It’s like MTV Unplugged crossed with VH1 Storytellers— with some new technology added in.

Words + Music, a new TV series based on the Audible audio series of the same name, is coming to MGM+ Nov. 30 and John Legend is among the featured artists.

Like Unplugged and Storytellers, each episode will feature artists sharing the stories behind their most iconic songs, followed by performances of those songs, either solo or with a band. There will also be an immersive video experience, courtesy of a stage that includes a 79-by-80-foot LED screen and 105 motion capture cameras, according to a press release.

As the artists tell their stories, they’ll be surrounded by “dynamic visual narratives”: the environment around them will “transform to reflect each anecdote and song,” the release says.

The show is being produced by Gunpowder and Sky, the studio run by Van Toffler, the former president of MTV Networks. Toffler says, “The result is something as intimate as a backstage confession and as cinematic as a feature film. These aren’t just stories about iconic songs – they’re portraits of how those songs, and the artists behind them came to be.”

Other artists featured in the episodes are Elvis CostelloSheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette.

Lady A‘s Charles Kelley played a rare solo show Wednesday night at Nashville’s famed Exit/In.

“WHAT A NIGHT. Forever grateful for this album and the people who have been along this journey with me.”

As you might expect, his bandmate Hillary Scott is a fan.

“It was SUCH a fun night!” she commented. “It sounded amazing and we loved watching you live out your 80s music-loving dreams.”

Hillary’s referring to Charles’ second solo album, Songs for a New Moon, which spawned his adult contemporary hit “Can’t Lose You” and is a tip of the hat to the decade, even including a cover of Cyndi Lauper‘s “Time After Time.”

Charles does have one more solo gig coming up: He’ll play Y Live at Wean Park in Youngstown, Ohio, Sept. 26 alongside John Mayer.

Lady A’s On this Winter’s Night (Volume 2) arrives that same day, followed by their first Christmas tour, which kicks off Dec. 5 in Atlanta.

Longtime Breaking Benjamin drummer Shaun Foist has announced that he’s stepping away from touring due to health issues.

Foist explains in a Facebook post that he’s been dealing with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid gland, since 2017, leading to “fatigue, leg weakness, stiffness, weight changes, and overall drum playing control issues.”

During Breaking Benjamin’s Awaken the Fallen tour with Staind over the spring, Foist says he was “experiencing extreme leg fatigue and complications, making drumming nearly impossible.”

“We ran tests on my back that came out fine thankfully, but tests confirmed Hashimoto’s had flared, pushing my thyroid into ‘hyper mode,’ causing weakness and weight loss,” Foist writes. “After speaking with my family and doctors, I’ve decided to step away from the road at this time to focus on healing.”

Foist’s announcement comes just as Breaking Benjamin is set to launch a U.S. tour with Three Days Grace Friday in Ridgedale, Missouri. He’ll be replaced by Asking Alexandria drummer James Cassells for the trek.

“Please continue supporting the band and enjoying the shows,” Foist writes. “I care deeply about our legacy, and I don’t want my health to affect performances.”

Alongside Foist’s statement, Breaking Benjamin adds, “We are thankful to [Foist] for all the years of playing with us and being a part of the Breaking Benjamin family.”

Foist has played in Breaking Benjamin since 2014, when frontman Benjamin Burnley rebooted the band with all new members.

Also involved in the show are Alex Coletti, who produced Costello’s original Unplugged 30 years ago, and Bill Flanagan, who co-created VH1 Storytellers.

Sabrina Carpenter warns that ‘sexual’ new album is ‘not for any pearl clutchers’

Sabrina Carpenter has already faced criticism over the sexual content of some of her songs — and if you’re someone who disapproved, you may want to skip her new album, Man’s Best Friend.

In an advance clip of Sabrina’s appearance on CBS Mornings on Friday, host Gayle King says, “You know, what I like about your music is that it’s unapologetic, and I think there are some people that would listen to the music and they’d be clutching their pearls.”

“Correct,” Sabrina replies. Gayle responds, “Yeah. But then I’m thinking, ‘But then the song isn’t for you.'”

“It is not for the pearl clutchers,” Sabrina agrees. “The album is not for any pearl clutchers.” However, she goes on to say, “But I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves.”

“It’s sexual. It’s also very powerful. It’s also very vulnerable,” King comments.

“I think that’s the thing, is sometimes people hear the lyrics that are really bold or they go, ‘I don’t want to sing this in front of other people.’ It’s like it’s almost too — it’s TMI,” Sabrina responds.

“But I think about being at a concert with, you know, however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends. And you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all, like’ — sigh of relief — ‘Like, this is just fun.’ And, and that’s all it has to be.”

The interview airs Friday at 7 a.m. on CBS. Man’s Best Friend arrives Thursday at midnight.
