Jessica Simpson on ‘American Idol.’ (Disney/Stewart Cook)
Jessica Simpson is marking a sobriety milestone.
The singer took to social media over the weekend to celebrate eight years sober in a reflective social media post, where she described gaining strength through sobriety.
Simpson began her post, “8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing.”
“Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God[‘]s purpose for my life,” she wrote.
Simpson continued, “Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”
The singer said now she is “clear” and “driven by faith.”
“Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I’m so happy I chose faith over fear,” wrote Simpson.
She finished with a thought on the process of finding strength, writing, “It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”
ABC News has reached out to a rep for Simpson for additional comment on the milestone.
The “I Wanna Love You Forever” artist opened up in her 2020 memoir Open Book about using alcohol to self-medicate and dull the pain of her being sexually abused when she was a child, as well as to cope with the stress of fame.

The holiday season has officially begun, at least according to Mariah Carey.
Right at midnight on November 1, the pop icon released her latest “It’s Time” video, marking the unofficial start of Christmas festivities.
The annual clip, which has become a viral tradition in recent years, features Carey declaring the end of Halloween and the arrival of her favorite time of year.
This year, the singer teamed up with comedian and actor Billy Eichner for a new take on the holiday countdown, created in partnership with Sephora.
The video opens with Carey in an angel costume announcing that Halloween “slayed,” before adding with a wink, “But now … it’s time.”
Her moment is interrupted when she discovers her vanity in disarray and calls out, “Spill the tea, who’s the thief?”
Eichner then appears, dressed as an elf and holding her beauty products. “Bad news, Mariah Carey,” he says. “The elves are striking this year. Elf revenge for putting us through holiday hell. Santa’s helper quit, and I’m pawning all this so I can afford elf therapy.”
Carey isn’t fazed. “You can’t cancel Christmas,” she fires back, before freezing Eichner in place and declaring, “It’s time!” as the familiar notes of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” begin to play.
Even though Halloween is only a few days in the rearview mirror and Thanksgiving’s about a month away, Thomas Rhett‘s preparations for the most wonderful time of the year are fully underway.
That’s because TR and his wife, Lauren Akins, typically start their yuletide rollout on Oct. 31.
“Christmas is my wife and [my] favorite time of the year. We love it so much,” TR says. “We literally put lights up on Halloween, actually, so that once Halloween [is] over, we just crank the lights on.”
“I’m sure our neighbors hate us,” he continues. “I’m not kidding, I think if you were to Google Image our home, you could see it from space. I mean, it is very, very bright.”
If you’re like Thomas and can’t wait any longer for yuletide cheer, you can check out his Merry Christmas, Y’all EP from 2022, which showcases four classics, as well as his original “Christmas in the Country,” which dates back to 2019.
