Red Hot Chili Platinum: Peppers earn new RIAA certifications

Did you know the “P” in RHCP stands for Platinum?

Well, maybe not, but it might as well after the Red Hot Chili Peppers earned a whole bunch of new RIAA certifications this week.

Songs including “Dark Necessities,” “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” and “Tell Me Baby” are now all officially Platinum singles. Additionally, the tracks “Scar Tissue,” “Dani California,” “Californication,” “Snow (Hey Oh),” “Otherside” and “Can’t Stop” extend their multi-Platinum totals.

A few RHCP albums also got in on the fun: Californication and Stadium Arcadium are now seven and four-times Platinum, respectively, while the most recent Peppers record, 2016’s The Getaway, has been certified Gold.

The new RIAA distinctions come amid an eventful week for the Peppers. Last Friday, they announced plans for a 2022 world tour, marking their first full outing since longtime guitarist John Frusciante rejoined the band at the end of 2019. The news arrived on the 30th anniversary of RHCP’s hit 1991 album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

New Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett video arriving Friday with ‘Love for Sale’ album

On Friday at noon, MTV will premiere “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” the latest video from Lady Gaga‘s new album of duets with Tony Bennett, Love for Sale.

The video will be available on MTV, MTV Live and MTVU, and will also be shown on a video billboard in New York’s Times Square: fitting for two artists who both call New York their home.

Love for Sale, a collection of standards written by the legendary Cole Porter, arrives Friday. In the trailer for the album, Gaga jokes that she literally has Tony Bennett “under her skin” — because she has a tattoo of one of his sketches on her arm, with his signature tattooed underneath it.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga’s new Love for Sale eye shadow palette is now available. It has 18 colors, all named after either the songs on the album or, as Gaga explains, “female jazz icons who I’ve always looked up to.”

AC/DC electrifies the ‘Mona Lisa’ in new “Through the Mists of Time” video

AC/DC‘s new “Through the Mists of Time” video certainly lives up to its name.

The clip opens up on an ancient Greek, Parthenon-type building filled with legendary paintings such as the Mona Lisa. Being that this is a rock video for one of the hardest rocking bands on the planet, the museum is filled with amps that shoot electricity through Leonardo da Vinci‘s masterpiece.

Towards the middle, the video transitions into a history of AC/DC themselves, showcasing all sorts of archival photos and videos. There’s a particular focus on late members Malcolm Young and Bon Scott, who passed away in 2017 and 1980, respectively.

The video ends with a Sistine Chapel-esque painting of AC/DC rocking out on the ceiling.

”Through the Mists of Time” appears on AC/DC’s comeback album Power Up, which was released last November. It reunites the surviving members of the band’s classic Back in Black lineup, and is dedicated to Malcolm.

The Rolling Stones have released a second advance track from the upcoming expanded 40th anniversary reissue of the band’s hit 1981 album, Tattoo You: a cover of the 1970 Chi-Lites song “Troubles A’ Comin.”

The soulful tune is one of nine previously unreleased tracks that will appear on the Lost & Found: Rarities bonus disc of the deluxe collection, which is due out on October 22. The Stones’ rendition of “Troubles A’ Comin” was recorded in Paris in 1979.

The track is available now via digital formats, and a companion lyric video for the tune has debuted at The Rolling Stones’ official YouTube channel.

The clip features animated graphic elements from the Tattoo You cover and other associated artwork, as well as photos of the band members from that period.

The Rolling Stones performed “Troubles A’ Comin” at the private tour warmup show they played at Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium on September 22, and the song likely will be included in some sets during the trek.

The first advance track released from the Tattoo You reissue was a previously unheard original sing called “Living in the Heart of Love” that also will be part of the Lost & Found: Rarities disc.

Meanwhile, after launching the 2021 U.S. leg of their No Filter Tour in St. Louis on Sunday, The Stones are scheduled to play the second show of the outing tonight in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Judas Priest’s Richie Faulkner is “stable and resting” after emergency heart surgery

Judas Priest’s Richie Faulkner is “stable and resting” after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

The update comes from his partner, Mariah Lynch, who took to Instagram on Tuesday to say, “Thank you to everyone for all your messages.”

Alongside a photo of the couple with their one-year-old daughter, Daisy Mae, Lynch wrote, “Richie underwent major emergency heart surgery. He is stable & resting. If you know him, you know how tough & strong he is. So tough that he finished the show & kept the hair flips coming.”

Lynch added, “There’s no one like him. We’d be lost without him #HotDad.”

Priest frontman Rob Halford also took to social media to spread the “good news.” Sharing a photo of the rocker, he wrote, “Good news metal maniacs as you may have seen via Ritchies beautiful @mariahklynch our Falcon is stable and resting after undergoing extensive heart surgery.”

The health update comes just one day after the band announced they were postponing their tour due to Faulkner’s health.

“It is with deep regret that we have to postpone the rest of our U.S. tour,” Judas Priests said. “Richie Faulkner has major medical heart condition issues which have landed him in the hospital where he is being treated. In the meantime, we are all sending love to our Falcon to wish him a speedy recovery… As soon as we have any updates from the doctors on when we can reschedule the dates, we will of course announce them.”

Thomas Rhett heads south for inspiration for new daughter’s name

Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, will welcome their fourth daughter later this year, and they are already pretty close to picking out a name. The couple, parents to Willa Gray, Ada James and Lennon Love, are looking to a Southern state as a possible inspiration for their upcoming baby girl.

“This has been hard, just because you put so much thought in the first one, and second one and the third, and you’re like, ‘Well we have to spend a lot of time on this one as well,'” Thomas tells ET Online. “And so we’ve gone back and forth and thinking about state names, thinking about flower names, thinking about places that we love. Could that resonate into a name?

“So we’ve landed on a couple,” he added, sharing the name that is currently at least a top contender for his next daughter.

“Georgia is my first choice,” he says. “I love the name Georgia for a girl.”

The new baby is due in November.

Limp Bizkit officially releases new “Dad Vibes” song

Prepare yourself for Limp Bizkit season.

The “Break Stuff” rockers have officially released their new song, “Dad Vibes,” which they previously debuted live during their viral Lollapalooza set over the summer. You can download it now via digital outlets.

In August, the Bizkit teased that they’d be soon releasing new songs “one after the other in rapid succession” leading up to arrival of a new album, the long in-the-works follow-up to 2011’s Gold Cobra.

While it appears we’ll be getting more and more new Limp Bizkit material, it might be a bit before you can catch Fred Durst and company live. The group canceled the remainder of their 2021 tour dates “out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the band, crew and most of all the fans.”

However, Billboard reports that Limp Bizkit just signed with a new touring agency, and are plotting a North American outing for 2022.

Hear Elton John & Stevie Wonder’s first-ever duet, “Finish Line”

They’ve worked together twice previously, but Elton John and Stevie Wonder have finally recorded an actual duet: “Finish Line,” which is available now as a digital download and on all streaming services.

In 1985, Elton and Stevie teamed with Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight to record the HIV/AIDS charity single “That’s What Friends Are For,” and in 1983, Stevie played harmonica on Elton’s smash “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.” But for Elton’s upcoming album The Lockdown Sessions, they did a proper collaboration, with both men singing and playing piano, Stevie on harmonica and a gospel choir backing them up.

In a statement, Elton celebrates his “fifty years of friendship” with Stevie, and says recording the duet was “a magical process.” “When you listen to what he does vocally and instrumentally on ‘Finish Line’ you think, ‘This is a true genius here,'” he adds.

Stevie raves in a statement of his own, “It is both a joy and honor to sing, play piano and harmonica for Elton! He has truly been one of the great spirits of music, life, friendship, and love, who I’ve met on this life journey! True artistry and music like love equals a forever commitment lasting many lifetimes.”

The music legend adds, “Elton, anyone who hears your voice singing ‘finish line’ will hear and feel your wisdom, your pain, your soul, your love, but also your resilience…I love it!! Congratulations to you and our forever and never, never-ending music, friendship, life-song! Long live Sir Elton John!”

The Lockdown Sessions comes out October 22 and also features collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder, Gorillaz, Miley Cyrus, the late Glen Campbell, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X and more.

Britney’s father Jamie Spears says his conservatorship suspension is “a loss for Britney”

After Britney Spears‘ father Jamie Spears was suspended as her conservator at an LA hearing on Wednesday, he’s issued a statement saying it was the wrong decision.

In a statement to ABC News, Mr. Spears’ attorney, Vivian Thoreen, says “the outcome of yesterday’s hearing” is “disappointing and, frankly, a loss for Britney.” Instead, Thoreen says, the judge should have terminated the conservatorship entirely, which is, she notes, what Mr. Spears petitioned the judge to do.

“Respectfully, the court was wrong to suspend Mr. Spears, put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s estate, and extend the very conservatorship that Britney begged the court to terminate earlier this summer,” says Thoreen, adding that it was “Mr. Spears who took the initiative to file the petition to terminate the conservatorship,” when Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, wouldn’t.

“Despite the suspension, Mr. Spears will continue to look out for the best interests of his daughter and work in good faith towards a positive resolution of all matters,” Thoreen concluded, saying that Jamie “loves his daughter Britney unconditionally.” Britney herself requested that her father be removed as conservator.

In court Wednesday, Rosengart agreed the conservatorship “should and must” be terminated but with an “orderly plan.” He said his “logically reasonable” plan called for suspending Jamie immediately — which he says Britney insisted on — appointing a temporary conservator to replace him, and then returning to court within a month or so to end conservatorship for good.

Rosengart claimed Mr. Spears only wanted to terminate the conservatorship because he didn’t want to be “deposed under oath” or “turn over his files,” adding, “That’s what he’s most concerned about.” Rosengart has long accused Jamie Spears of financial shenanigans. Spears has denied any wrongdoing.

Ultimately, Judge Brenda Penny agreed that Rosengart’s plan was in Britney’s best interests. Another hearing is set for November.

Lee Brice is getting used to falling asleep on the job again

One of Lee Brice‘s favorite things to do is perform in front of his fans, night after night. But after more than a year off of the road, Lee admits it has been a bit of a challenge to remember how to put on a live show.

“I had to kind of learn how to sleep on a moving loud bus again, which, it’s different cause you got used to sleeping in the still bed,” Lee tells The Country Daily.

“Another thing is that even when I get on, I’m about to go on stage I’m thinking ‘Okay I got all these songs that I’ve sang a million times and I’m like wait a minute…what’s the second verse?’ he adds. “You’re almost afraid you’re going to get up there and maybe forget lyrics to something that you’ve sang a million times.”

Lee is currently celebrating a top-five single with “Memory I Don’t Mess With.” The song is from his 2020 Hey World album.
