“Redneck Be Like”: Thomas Rhett has a dang good time on his barn-burning new release

Cover Art Courtesy of The Valory Music Co.

Few country stars can write a tender love song or a reflective ode to family life quite like Thomas Rhett. But even the sweetest balladeer likes to crank things up with a party song now and again, and that’s exactly what the singer does with his newest song, “Redneck Be Like.”

From eating fresh-caught catfish and skinny-dipping in a farm pond to blowing past small-town stop signs in a lifted truck, Thomas namechecks all the high points of living life out in the middle of nowhere.

“This song is all about summertime and getting a chance to unwind and let loose,” he explains. “We wrote it about the towns where I grew up in Georgia and Tennessee, and honestly every town we live in for the night when we go on tour. We can’t wait to see y’all on the road and turn this one up.”

A lyric video for “Redneck Be Like” shows a montage of scenes from Thomas’ live show, and for good reason: The country star is anxiously anticipating the return of his The Center Point Road Tour, which re-launches next week.

Foo Fighters blast “You Should Be Dancing” cover at Westboro Baptist Church protestors

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

Foo Fighters have some advice for the Westboro Baptist Church: why not try dancing, instead?

The Kansas-based hate group, known for its inflammatory homophobic and racist remarks and demonstrations, set up a protest against Dave Grohl and company’s concert in Bonner Springs Thursday. In response, the Foos drove past the protest while blasting their cover of the Bee Gees song “You Should Be Dancing.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got something to say,” Grohl can be heard saying in footage capturing the interaction. “Because you know what? I love you. I do! They way I look at it, I love everybody. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? Can’t you just love everybody?”

“‘Cause I think it’s about love!” he continued. “That’s what I think. I think we’re all about love, and you shouldn’t be hating. You know what y’all should be doing? You should be dancing!”

You may recall that the Westboro Baptist Church set up similar protests when Foo Fighters played Kansas City, Missouri, in 2011 and 2015, which were met with similar responses. For the 2015 show, the Foos shot back with an IRL Rickroll by driving by the crowd while playing Rick Astley‘s ’80s hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Ed Sheeran to perform free concert for NFL’s Kickoff Experience

Dan Martensen

Music and football unite as Ed Sheeran is set to play the NFL’s Kickoff Experience.

Before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off against the Dallas Cowboys on their home turf at Raymond James Stadium on September 9, Ed will perform a free concert at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in Tampa at 7 p.m. ET.

It turns out the British-born singer is a longtime fan of American football. Ed shares with Today that when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2013, he purchased a pair of pajamas at Walmart displaying the logo of local NFL team the Tennessee Titans, solidifying him as a fan.

“I’m really excited. First time I’ve done anything really musically for the NFL, and I’m a big fan,” he says, adding that he’s still a loyal follower of the sport. “It’s quite difficult to watch American football in England because it’s on so late, but I’m committed.”

A portion of the “Shape of You” singer’s set will air as part of pregame coverage, in addition to streaming on NFL.com, the NFL app and the official NFL Facebook page.

Guns N’ Roses officially release “new” song, “Absurd”

Guns N’ Roses/Geffen Records

Forget the jungle: Guns N’ Roses are back in the studio.

The reunited rockers have released an official version of the song “Absurd,” which they previously debuted live earlier this week during a concert in Boston. While nominally a “new” song, “Absurd” is actually a reworked version of the GN’R rarity “Silkworms,” a track written during the infamously long sessions for Chinese Democracy but that was never released.

According to the song’s credits, “Absurd” was produced by Axl Rose and Chinese Democracy producer Caram Costanzo, and features drums by Bryan “Brain” Mantia, who played in Guns from 2000 to 2006. The credits also list “Absurd” as being performed and written by Guns N’ Roses — neither Slash nor Duff McKagan, who rejoined Rose in 2016 after a 20-year absence from the group, are explicitly mentioned.

“Absurd” is now available via digital outlets. It follows the 2018 release of the unearthed Appetite for Destruction B-side “Shadow of Your Love.”

Guns’ most recent album, of course, is 2008’s Chinese Democracy, which featured Rose as the only original member.

Britney Spears addresses conservatorship drama: “Things are better than ever”

Britney Spears is giving fans an update — and it seems things are looking up for her.

In a short video posted Thursday, the 39-year-old pop star took to Instagram to address fans who may have been concerned about her amid her battle to end the 13-year-old conservatorship run by her father, Jamie Spears.

“I’m sure a lot of you are wondering how I’m doing and because the cat is out of the bag — literally, out of the bag — and you guys know my situation,” Britney begins, as she lounges in a red bikini top and white sunglasses.

“I do want to let you guys know that things are way better than ever anticipated,” Spears reveals, before going to answer a few non-conservatorship-related questions, like what’s her favorite clothing store, favorite Miley Cyrus song, and favorite lotion scent. The answers are J. Crew, “We Can’t Stop,” and vanilla, respectively.

The “Baby One More Time” singer cheerfully captioned the snippet, “Since this beautiful world makes it so easy to share with you guys … I’m here today trying to matter like all of us do on any given Thursday … have a good day beautiful people !!!!”

The dawn is here! The Weeknd releases steamy new single “Take My Breath”

Christopher Polk/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images

The sun finally rose of a new music era for The Weeknd on Friday, when he dropped his brand new single “Take My Breath” as well as its psychedelic music video.

The Grammy winner celebrated his new release all day Thursday, teasing on billboards across the nation that “The dawn is coming…”  Well, at the stroke of midnight on Friday, the message changed to “the dawn is here!”

“Take My Breath” is a frisky departure from The Weeknd’s After Hours era, as the song explores how far he and his object of affection are willing to go behind closed doors.

“You tell me things you wanna try/ I know temptation is the devil in disguise/ You risk it all to feel alive, oh yeah/ You’re offering yourself to me like sacrifice,” his falsetto croons in the opening lyrics before delving into the impassioned chorus where he’s told to “Take my breath away/ And make it last forever, babe.”

As for the music video, it starts with The Weeknd walking away from the rising sun and into a dark nightclub that’s lit by a series of strobe lights.  Once inside, he catches the eye of a mysterious woman who gets him hooked on oxygen — the club’s drug of choice — which causes his surroundings to blur as he’s trapped in a state of euphoria.

That high comes crashing down when the mysterious woman wraps her long braids around his neck and chokes him, causing him to black out — he comes to on the dance floor, surrounded by sea of revelers dancing around him.

“Take My Breath” is the apparent first track off The Weeknd’s fifth studio album, of which he has yet to reveal a title and release date.

Gulf Coast Records/Hillside Global

The Jackson 5‘s Tito Jackson released his latest solo album today, a star-studded collection of blues tunes titled Under Your Spell.

The album includes the lead single “Love One Another,” a song with an uplifting message that features Tito joined on lead vocals by his brother Marlon and blues artists Bobby Rush and Kenny Neal, plus Stevie Wonder on harmonica.

A companion music video for the song debuted Thursday packed with celebrity cameos, including Tito’s sister Janet, Smokey Robinson and Kim Kardashian West, but Tito tells ABC Audio that the queen of the clip is none other than his 91-year-old mom, Katherine.

“She kicks it out,” Tito says of the video, which begins with Katherine delivering a message imploring people to “stop the violence, killing, racism, and…to love one another.”

Also appearing in the “Love One Another” video are Tito’s brothers and band mates Marlon, Jackie and Jermaine, his sister La Toya, his children and various grandkids, nieces and nephews, as well as celebs like Magic Johnson, Chris Tucker, Kathy Sledge, Morris Day, Deniece Williams, Brian McKnight, Kim Fields, Khloé Kardashian and Kris Jenner.

Tito notes that by having so many well-known musicians, actors and other stars featured in the clip, he feels that the song’s positive has a better chance of reaching more people.

“The message of…’Love One Another’…[is] very much needed today,” he maintains. “And that’s what I felt when that was being produced…tell the people something that’s gonna stick and they know it’s true and they can practice. So, we got to love one another.”

Under Your Spell also includes contributions from George Benson, The O’JaysEddie Levert and more. The album is available now on CD, vinyl LP, digital formats and via streaming services.
