The first half of Jamie Lynn Spears‘ anticipated tell-all interview is out and she didn’t hold back about what it was like growing up under Britney Spears‘ shadow.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 30-year-old actress tearfully said she learned at a young age to “stay out of the way” so she would “not mess anything up for anybody” or the family’s “brand.”

“I was never allowed to control my own narrative or have my own voice unless it was in line with everything,” she added. “My whole life I kind of felt like I didn’t matter… I always felt like an afterthought.”

Despite that, Jamie Lynn has nothing but love for Britney and is “so proud” of her.  “I got to experience watching a woman take over the f****** world. How can I be jealous of that?” she added, refuting rumors that she envies Britney, adding, “We never compared each other, the world did.”

Jamie Lynn also said her family failed Britney when she was experiencing a series of public emotional breakdowns.  “This was a brilliant young woman who was going through a hard time, and if she didn’t stand up for herself then somebody should have,” she said, adding she was unable to be the person her sister needed because she was still a kid, “Somebody should have said stop the f****** presses give this girl a f****** minute.”

“The problem was that I couldn’t be responsible for everything that happened around her and also be authentic to myself,” the Sweet Magnolias star said. “I guess I didn’t have the courage to do it.  I guess I was too scared.”

The second half of the interview comes out Wednesday, January 19.  Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said, is out now.

Stevie Wonder celebrates MLK Day calling for Congress to support voting rights

In 1980, Stevie Wonder led the campaign to make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a national holiday, and recorded the iconic song, “Happy Birthday” in honor of Dr. King on his Hotter Than July album. On Monday, as the nation celebrated MLK Day, the 25-time Grammy winner demanded that the Senate ends its filibuster and enacts voting rights legislation.

“Any senator who cannot support the protection of voting rights to the United States of America cannot say that they support the Constitution,” the Motown legend said in a YouTube video. “Stop the hypocrisy. Cut the bull-tish. If you care and support our rights, do the hard work. You can’t please everybody, but you can protect all of us. And to keep it all the way real: The filibuster is not working for democracy. Why won’t you?”

Also on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr.’s eldest son, Martin Luther King III, and his 13-year-old granddaughter, Yolanda Renee King, led the annual Peace Walk in Washington, D.C. to honor the legacy of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, and demand action on two voting rights bills: the Freedom to Vote Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

“What we want is for Americans to be engaged,” King III told ABC News, adding that the need for federal safety guards is more urgent than ever. “This year, we are laser focused on getting the right to vote sustained and getting the right to vote empowered.”

Neil Young/Reprise Records

The new documentary Barn, about the making of Neil Young & Crazy Horse‘s 2021 album of the same name, will be streamed exclusively at Young’s official YouTube channel starting this Thursday, January 20, at 1 p.m. ET.

As previously reported, the Barn film was directed by Young’s wife, actress Daryl Hannah — aka “dhlovelife” — and offers an intimate look at Neil and the current Crazy Horse lineup working on the album in a restored 19th-century log barn in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains during the COVID-19 pandemic in June of last year.

Most of the album was recorded live.

A description of the movie notes that it “intentionally lingers on single shots for entire songs, showing there are no tricks, revealing the raw, organic and spontaneous process of the music bursting to life from unexpected moments.”

The Barn film previously premiered in a few select theaters around the time of the album’s December 10 release, and also is available on a Blu-ray disc that’s included in the deluxe box set version of the album.

Here’s the album’s full track list:

“Song of the Seasons”
“Heading West”
“Change Ain’t Never Gonna”
“Canerican”
“Shape of You”
“They Might Be Lost”
“Human Race”
“Tumblin’ Thru the Years”
“Welcome Back”
“Don’t Forget Love”

West Side Sorry: Rachel Zegler apologizes for joking about Britney Spears

Rachel Zegler issued a mea culpa after poking fun at Britney Spears tweets about Jamie Lynn Spears.  The West Side Story star faced serious backlash after posting a video of her dramatically monologuing the “Toxic” singer’s messages.

The inflammatory video has since been deleted and, on Monday, the Golden Globe winner apologized for her actions.  “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Britney and am rooting for her always,” wrote Zegler. “While I meant no disrespect whatsoever, I should have thought about how this could be perceived, and I’m so sorry for upsetting or disappointing anyone.”

She continued in a follow-up tweet, “This is not a situation to be taken lightly, and we should all be lifting Britney up in this pivotal time. Thanks for hearing me out, and a big thank you to all who held me accountable.”

Reaction to the 20-year-old’s apology has been well received by fans, who praised her for addressing her faux pas and owning up to it.

Neither Britney nor Jamie Lynn has responded to the controversy.

Zegler’s videos were made shortly after the Grammy winner unleashed a scathing message on Twitter after Jamie Lynn shared a memory with ABC’s Nightline about Britney allegedly grabbing a knife and locking the both of them in a room.   The pop star said Jamie Lynn was “making that up” and begged for her to “stop with these crazy lies.”

However, the sisters are seemingly on their way to reconciliation, after both expressed their love for one another.

Selena Gomez says she “didn’t have a choice” to stay quiet about her mental health

Selena Gomez has brought comfort to many by opening up about her mental health struggles and by rallying to normalize these sensitive conversations.  But what caused the “Lose You to Love Me” singer to become an advocate in the first place?

Speaking to Vogue UK, Selena said breaking her silence about her mental health was not of her own volition.  She said she felt forced into sharing her experiences once the rumor mill caught wind of her diagnoses.

“In a way, I didn’t have a choice,” she shared. “There were so many stories being told about me during that time that I wondered how anyone would know the truth. So it really stemmed from me wanting to be honest, wanting to say: ‘All this stuff that you’re hearing? It isn’t right. Here’s what happened.'”‘

Selena continued, “I do have bipolar [disorder] and I had to learn a bunch of things about myself, and it wasn’t easy. And, you know, some days it’s still not. But I just knew that if I didn’t say anything, someone else was going to. It wasn’t fair.”

The Grammy winner also shared how her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, earned its moniker.  She said she named her beauty line after her anthemic single, “Rare” because “it basically says that I don’t have everything figured out, but I know that I’m worth it and I know that I deserve good things.”

“When we started talking about how to enter the beauty space, I knew I needed to be different. I wanted to stand out and show people that I care beyond just the products, so that’s how it began. I named the product Rare – it was pretty challenging to get, but it was well worth it, and now it represents so much more to me,” Selena said.

Adele scores ninth week at number one; GAYLE reaches top 10

Adele‘s “Easy on Me” remains the top song in the country, spending its ninth week atop the Billboard Hot 100, while GAYLE reaches a new chart milestone.

Just a few days after her breakthrough hit “abcdefu” beat out “Easy On Me” for the top spot in the U.K., GAYLE has now reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s also her first number-one on Billboard‘s Digital Song Sales chart and it’s reached the top 30 on the airplay-based Radio Songs chart.

“abcdefu” has been featured in more than two million clips on TikTok and is available in a number of different versions, including “angrier,” “chill” and “nicer” mixes.

Meanwhile, a song from Disney’s Encanto, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” has reached number four. That makes it the highest-charting song from a Disney film in almost 30 years: Vanessa Williams‘ “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas went to number four in August 1995.

Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” also made it to number four, in 1994. Surprisingly, Idina Menzel‘s “Let It Go,” from Frozen, only made it as high as number five.

If “Bruno” goes to number one, it’ll mark the first time a Disney song has topped the chart since 1993, when Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle‘s “A Whole New World,” from Aladdin, reached number one.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

As for Adele, if “Easy on Me” holds onto number one for another week, it’ll tie “Hello” as her longest-running number one hit: That song spent 10 weeks on top five years ago.

The rest of the top five includes The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber‘s “Stay” at number two, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” at number three and Ed Sheeran‘s “Shivers” at number five.

Bring Me the Horizon has postponed its upcoming headlining European tour, set to kick off in February.

The run, which also features A Day to Remember and Poorstacy on the bill, will now launch a year later, in February 2023.

“Unfortunately due to the ongoing COVID situation across Europe, our February EU headline tour needs to be postponed,” BMTH says. “We want to bring you the full show with no holding back — the true Post Human experience — but we need to do it safely.”

“Post Human” refers to Horizon’s ongoing EP series, which began with 2020’s Post Human: Survival Horror. The release date for the next installment, which is expected to feature the single “DiE4u,” has yet to be announced.

Entire David Bowie catalog, including three exclusive remixes, available now for Peloton users

Entire David Bowie catalog, including three exclusive remixes, available now for Peloton users
Christina Radish/Redferns

Starting today, David Bowie‘s entire music catalog is available for Peloton users, and in conjunction with the launch, three brand-new mixes of Bowie songs by contemporary artists also have premiered exclusively for the home exercise platform.

The songs, 1980’s “It’s No Game (Pt. 1),” 1983’s “Let’s Dance,” and 1975’s “Golden Years,” were remixed, respectively, by alternative rocker St. Vincent and DJ/producers Honey Dijon and TOKiMONSTA.

St. Vincent says she chose to remix “It’s No Game (Pt. 1)” a song from David’s Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) album, “because it has a part 2 on the record, and I figured maybe Bowie wouldn’t mind so much if I made a part 3.” She adds, “I wanted to take Bowie’s throat-shredding vocal take from part 1, and make it front and center.”

Honey Dijon notes, “When I was asked to remix one of my favorite David Bowie songs, I chose ‘Let’s Dance’ because it’s a true celebration of music and movement — just like Peloton!”

As for TOKiMONSTA, she says she relates to Bowie because he was “an amazing innovator,” pointing out that he “was always reinventing himself and pushing the envelope of music, while somehow never ceasing to be authentically himself.”

The David Bowie Collection, including the remixes, will be available for various exercise classes under the “Collections” sections in the Peloton App or the Peloton hardware touchscreen.

For non-Peloton members, a free two-month trial of the app is available. Visit OnePeloton.com for more details.
