For many years, Doors guitarist Robby Krieger and his friend, sports artist Scott Medlock, teamed up to organize an annual celebrity golf tournament and all-star concert to benefit the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. However, with Medlock himself battling cancer, this year’s edition of the event will feature Krieger joined by various musical friends at a special show to raise money for Scott’s medical bills.

The event, dubbed the “Celebration of Friendship” All-Star Concert — Scotty, Robby & Friends, takes place this Sunday, October 24, at Bogie’s Bar in the Los Angeles suburb of Westlake Village, California.

“Unfortunately, Scotty has got cancer and it’s gotten…bad,” Krieger tells ABC Audio. “So we’re just doing it for him and his family this year, trying to raise some money for them, because it’s amazing how much drug companies will charge for chemotherapy.”

While an official lineup for the show hasn’t been announced, Krieger reveals that the event will feature performances by “a lot of cool people,” including ex-Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine and his current group, a couple of members of Boston, and former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and his collaborator and one-time girlfriend Orianthi.

“It should be fun,” Robby says.

You can check out the various tickets and VIP packages that are available for the benefit concert by visiting TheMedlockKrieger.org and Eventbrite.com.

Some ticket packages include an autographed copy of Krieger’s new memoir, Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar with The Doors, which was released earlier this month.

It’s one year down for Megan Thee Stallion and Pardison Fontaine, who recently celebrated their anniversary — and that celebration came a major piece of bling for the “hot girl.”

Taking to social media on Wednesday, the couple shared snippets of how they spent the day together, which included lots of rose petals, matching pajamas, good food and drinks. They also showed off the iced-out chain Pardi gifted his beau that bears Megan’s name underneath a fire emoji.

Pardi captioned the post, “VYBE RECAP !! I don’t know who bought all the iPhone 13s but baby was mad as hell I couldn’t find her one. Thank you @luxe_vvsjewelers for helping me get out the dog house and putting the icing on the cake for the special day.”

Megan and Pardi began dating on October 18, 2020 but the “Savage” rapper didn’t confirm the relationship until February during an Instagram Live, where she candidly said, “Yeah, he my boyfriend.”

Khalid has dropped a new song, which is our first taste of an EP he plans to release in December.

The song is called “Present,” and in a statement, Khalid explains “My mom raised me on R&B and whether it’s the harmonies or melodies, it will always be a part of my music. ‘Present’ is just the beginning and I love that it has a dual meaning.”

“It feels good to be more ‘present’ after such a trying year in the pandemic,” he goes on. “And it’s also a ‘present’ for my fans that have been with me every step of the way.”

“Present” is a song from a new EP Khalid plans to release on December 3.  Scenic Drive, which he describes as a “tape,” is meant to be a companion piece to his 2018 EP, Sun City.

Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Khalid says he’s also made a new album, but decided to release the EP first.

There’s two projects. They’re related. They’re related but it’s like the more mature cousin. And then the album is like its own thing, it’s like this new-born baby,” he explains.  It’s named after a real-life place in his hometown of El Paso: “It’s this drive up this mountain side,” Khalid notes.

Scenic Drive features eight songs, six of which are collaborations with R&B or hip hop artists, including Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, 6lack and Kiana Ledé

“Those are artists that I listen to, that I love,” Khalid tells Lowe. “Everybody that I collaborated with, we’re friends, and we love each other. We respect each other as artists

“Present” is Khalid’s second new song of 2021, following “New Normal.”

Melanie C, aka Sporty Spice, admits she’s still “licking [her] wounds” following her Dancing with the Stars departure.

The Spice Girls member admitted to Entertainment Tonight that she finds it “so, so strange” her journey on the competition has come to an end.

“I was so committed… everybody on the show is, and all of a sudden it’s over,” Melanie remarked, adding that she finds it “surreal” that it ended so suddenly: “I did really hope and think I’d be there a little longer.”

Melanie and influencer Olivia Jade were in the bottom two on Monday’s show, but head judge Len Goodman saved Jade, the daughter of actress Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli. Last year, the couple pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal.

As for what Melanie plans on doing now, the “Wannabe” singer hinted that a trip to the recording studio is in order.

“I think there’s a whole album out there waiting to be written after this experience,” she teased. “I’ve done so much in my life. I’ve been so fortunate. I’ve had a great career. I was a Spice Girl, I was a solo artist, I’ve done theater, I’ve done so many different things, but nothing prepared me for this.”

Speaking of albums, Melanie shared more about Spice 25 —, the repackaged and remastered 25th anniversary edition of the Spice Girls’ debut album, Spice, out October 29 — which she says “brought back so many memories.”

“We dug into the archives, and we just found lots of demos, unreleased tracks. There’s so many little quirky moments.  There’s a little edit of us just messing about in the studio,” she explained.  “I think for those real fans out there who love to collect all the memorabilia, they’re gonna love it.”

Adele continues to shatter records with her new song “Easy On Me,” which she released last week.

Variety reports that a record number of radio stations started playing “Easy On Me” in its first week of release and gave the single the most plays across a seven-day period in radio history: A total of 451 radio stations reported that they immediately put the single into rotation.

Furthermore, “Easy On Me” enjoyed the most single-week plays across five different musical formats, with over 6,000 total plays, making Adele the only artist to achieve this feat.

Adele’s doing pretty well on YouTube, too, where the video for “Easy On Me” has racked up over 99.2 million total views since it was posted on October 14.

System of a Down was forced to postpone a pair of upcoming shows in Los Angeles after frontman Serj Tankian tested positive for COVID-19.

Tankian shared the news with fans on his Instagram Thursday, explaining, “After having 3 really fun shows, I got back to LA with flu-like symptoms. I am shocked that it could even be Covid as I am not just vaccinated but also incredibly careful.”

SOAD was set to play at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium on Friday, October 22, and Saturday, October 23, alongside KornHelmet and Russian Circles.  The band has since pushed the shows into next year, setting the new dates on February 4 and February 5.

Tickets purchased for the October shows will be honored for the new dates.  Those unable to make the rescheduled performances will be given a refund.

“I am so sorry to have to push these dates yet again especially to those who made sacrifices to be here from out of town,” Tankian continued. “Touring is not something I intend to continue doing down the line so these handful of shows have meant the world to me.”

The “Empty Walls” singer closed by thanking his followers for “your love and understanding.”

SOAD is not the only band grappling with breakthrough COVID-19 cases.  Last week, Korn drummer Ray Luzier became the third member of the band to test positive for COVID-19. Previously, frontman Jonathan Davis tested positive back in August, while guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer contracted the virus in September.

Jon Pardi’s “Head Over Boots” for “Tequila Little Time,” a tune he “shelled out” with in an hour

When Jon Pardi can’t think of anything else to do, he likes “Tequila Little Time.” And it helps if he has Thomas Rhett‘s dad, singer/songwriter Rhett Akins, around.

You see, Jon’s latest hit came to life on the final day of a writing getaway for his latest album, Heartache Medication

“It’s a fun song,” Jon says of “Tequila Little Time.” “I love how it’s just the sleek little title that Rhett Akins came up with.”

“He was laying on the couch,” Jon recalls. “It was the last day of our retreat and we… just couldn’t think of anything. I mean, it was like silent for maybe 20 minutes, and… just out of nowhere, he’s like ‘Tequila little time, man!’ And we wrote the song in an hour.”

Jon has a theory about songs like that — one that’s true of his first number one.

“Usually there’s something special about songs you can shell out in an hour,” he explains. “‘Head Over Boots’ was one we shelled out in an hour. And it just fell out of us.”

“It was just kind of like picking up somebody when they’re down, having a shot of tequila and dancing and having fun,” he says of the idea behind his new song.

“And right now, I feel like everybody wants to have a shot of tequila and have fun if they’re drinking,” he laughs.

Don McLean’s classic “American Pie” song and album celebrate their 50th anniversary on Sunday

Don McLean‘s classic anthem “American Pie” and album of the same name were released 50 years ago this Sunday, October 24.

With “American Pie,” which was the album’s lead track and centerpiece, McLean used the tragic 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper — referred to in the tune as “the day the music died” –as a launching point to metaphorically trace the history of rock ‘n’ roll through the turbulent 1960s, while also reflecting on the loss of innocence America experienced during the era.

“American Pie” spent four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1972, while the album topped the Billboard 200 for seven weeks around that time. American Pie also featured a second hit, the acoustic ballad “Vincent,” an homage to painter Vincent Van Gogh that peaked at #12 on the Hot 100.

“American Pie,” of course, has become among the most enduring songs of its time.

“It’s been a hit record on steroids,” McLean tells ABC Audio. “[O]ther hits have been forgotten that were around or…if you listen to them now, they sound silly…This song is majestic and it continues to grow.”

Reflecting on the song, Don says, “[I]t’s entertaining on a number of levels…I had a blast writing it and thinking about it and laughing and thinking, ‘Oh, this is funny, I’ll do this,’ or ‘I won’t do that.'”

As for “Vincent,” McLean notes with a laugh, “I hear people saying that the song has actually made [Van Gogh] famous, more famous than he was before. That makes me feel funny…because he was already a god, really, in [the realm of art].”

As previously reported, McLean will launch a 50th anniversary American Pie tour this January in Honolulu.

Back for more cheap thrills: Sean Paul & Sia reunite for “Dynamite”

Five years ago, Sia scored her first U.S. number-one hit with “Cheap Thrills,” her collaboration with Sean Paul. Now, the two have reunited for a new single, “Dynamite” — and Sean Paul says working with Sia again was “magic.”

Sean Paul says he always knew he and Sia would do something else together, but he tells ABC Audio that it took them this long because it needed to be the right song.  Sean says he had the initial idea and rhythm for the track, but Sia took it to the next level.

“It was like the bones of the song, and she kind of added the soup!” he laughs. “She got it cooking. When she wrote that hook, I was like ‘Ohhh!!!’ But again, with her voice, you know, everything she sings [is great].”

He adds, “But for me, it was just magic.”

Sean says he’s looking forward to the video for the song, due out in a few weeks, which will show his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica, “in the future.”  “There’s cars flying and there’s big buildings, a lot of crazy stuff!” he says, laughing.

For now, though, Sean is just satisfied to be able to release “a very feel-good song, something to get people on the dance floor and to just sort of forget about the worries that’s all in the Earth right now.”

“I think that’s what my music is and has been for people over the years,” he explains. “You know, there’s problems every day…You see it on news every day. I like to tell people that whenever there’s anything wrong with my life, there’s always one song that’ll get me in a better mood. And so I’m happy to be able to provide people with that type of music, especially this one.”
