Nick Lachey is looking forward to celebrating 98 Degrees‘ 25th anniversary this summer but, ahead of the milestone celebration, he entertained the possibility of doing a “massive” tour with the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC.

BSB first floated the idea in July, which Brian Littrell dubbed “the boys of summer” tour.  Does Nick see that happening?

“If we’re able to ever come together, I think it would be a massive, massive, massive success,” Nick told ABC Audio. “I think people would love to see that line up, and I think it would be certainly a once in a lifetime tour.”

While “The Hardest Thing” singer said his band mates would be “thrilled and honored to be part of that,” he cryptically added “there’s always a chance” of that mega-tour happening.  As for when that’ll be, Nick mused, “We’ll see… One of these days.”

What is certain is a massive celebration ahead to mark 98 Degrees’ eponymous debut studio album, which was released on July 29, 1997.  “This is our 25th anniversary year,” Nick proclaimed, adding, “We’re going to celebrate that anniversary with new projects.”

He confirms a new EP is on the way and said, “We’re actually working in the studio on that right now.”  Nick expects the EP to drop “by early summer.  That’s the goal.”

Nick also took a moment to reflect on his storied career, saying he is “blessed to still have amazing fans” because they’re the reason “we still get to do this.”  98 Degrees surprised fans last summer by releasing the single, “Where Do You Wanna Go.“.

The Grammy-nominated artist says, “It is truly shocking to us and amazing to us” they are still performing 25 years later, and vowed, “We’ll keep doing it as long as people are there to listen.”

Dierks Bentley on the “crazy” experience of seeing Breland write lyrics: “Like watching a mad scientist”

Dierks Bentley’s latest single, “Beers on Me,” gets an assist from two of country music’s brightest up-and-comers, Hardy and Breland, each of whom had a hand in writing the song.

While Hardy lent his pen to “Beers on Me” in the kind of writing session that’s pretty standard for Dierks and his collaborators, Breland’s contribution came about in a way that’s a little more unorthodox.

It all started when Dierks played him the song — which, at the time, he thought was finished — and asked if Breland would like to sing a verse. Breland jumped at the opportunity, but asked if he could put his songwriter’s stamp on “Beers on Me,” too.

“We play the track over and over again, and he just started pulling things out of the air,” Dierks remembers. “Laughing to himself, messing with his hair…[I’m] like, ‘What is he doing?!’ And writing stuff on his phone. It was just like watching a mad scientist.”

The result? Lyrics so colorful and clever that Dierks had to think about them for a minute before he understood them. “You know, ‘I like my drinks like my roof — on the house.’ Like, ‘What does that mean? Oh my gosh, he likes free drinks!’” the star offers as an example.

“What he wrote was so well-written,” Dierks continues. “I feel like the rest of us had been painting with, like, six colors and he was using a paint set that had, like, 120 different colors to draw from.”

“Beers on Me” is currently inside the top 10 at country radio.

Graham Nash discusses his classic songs in Nile Rodgers-hosted podcast, premiering Saturday
Harry Herd/Redferns

Graham Nash shares stories behind some of his most famous songs in a new episode of the Apple Music 1 podcast Deep Hidden Meaning Radio, hosted by Chic‘s Nile Rodgers, which premieres this Saturday, February 26 at 11 a.m. ET.

As revealed in a preview provided to ABC Audio, one of the tunes Graham spoke about was his classic “Teach Your Children,” which appeared on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young‘s 1970 debut, Déjà Vu.

He explained to Rodgers that the tune was inspired by a famous 1962 Diane Arbus photograph of a boy holding a toy hand grenade in New York’s Central Park.

“[W]hen I was looking at the [photo]…I began to realize that if we didn’t teach our kids a better way of dealing with each other, then humanity itself was kind of screwed,” Nash recalls. “That was the beginning of ‘Teach Your Children.'”

Graham also revealed that in 1989, when he was selling some photo prints, including one of the Arbus photo, a tall young man introduced himself to him and told him he was the boy with the grenade, and shared his memory of his picture being taken that day.

Nash also talked about “Marrakesh Express,” the 1969 Crosby, Stills & Nash hit that he wrote. Graham explained that he first recorded the song with his previous band The Hollies, but he felt that version “absolutely sucked.”

He said that it was his CSN band mate Stephen Stills‘ guitar playing that made “Marrakesh Experess” a great song.

“When you are writing a song about a train, it needs a train,” Graham noted. “It needs urgency, it needs energy, it needs to be tracking right along. And that guitar part that Stephen Stills put on was unbelievable to me.”

Dirty Honey has premiered the video for “Another Last Time,” a track off the band’s self-titled debut album.

The clip, which is shot all in one continuous take, finds the “When I’m Gone” rockers providing the soundtrack to a host of illicit activities, including affairs, robbery, gambling and drug use, all taking place around a seedy motel.

“The song’s lyrics tell the story of a toxic relationship you can’t seem to get out of, and you keep going back for more,” says frontman Marc LaBelle. “But it’s as much a song about any addiction or compulsion, anything you just can’t kick — drugs, money, danger, whatever.”

He adds, “Shooting the video the way we did presented a real challenge, but I think that when you take on doing something special like this and you succeed, you come out with something really great. And I think we did.”

You can watch the “Another Last Time” video streaming now on YouTube.

Dirty Honey is currently traveling the U.S. on the Young Guns tour alongside Mammoth WVH.

Elton John hit a milestone on Australian charts with his Dua Lipa duet “Cold Heart”

Elton John hit a milestone on Australian charts with his Dua Lipa duet “Cold Heart”
Interscope Records

It wasn’t surprising when Elton John‘s collaboration with pop star Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix),” hit number one in the U.K. — after all, both artists are British. But apparently, Australia loves them even more.

The song, which mashes up four of Elton’s previous songs, has just checked off its 10th non-consecutive week at number one on Australia’s ARIA Singles Chart, which is that country’s official song ranking.

“Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)” is now one of only four songs that have spent 10 weeks on top of the ARIA Singles Chart. The others include Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You,” LMFAO‘s “Party Rock Anthem” and Sandi Thom‘s “I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair).”

Of course, “Cold Heart” has a long way to go before it sets any records Down Under: The longest-running song on the ARIA Singles chart is “Dance Money” by Tones and I, which was number one for 24 weeks.

Incidentally, the remix was created by the electronic dance duo Pnau, who happen to be Australian.

In the U.S., “Cold Heart” peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s the only song from this century that Elton is performing during his Farewell tour. Earlier this week, Elton performed at his “favorite venue in the world” — New York’s Madison Square Garden — for the last time. He’s played there more than 70 times.

New Music Friday: DNCE, Nessa Barrett, OneRepublic and GAYLE

It’s new music Friday, so let’s see who’s out with new tunes!

DNCE is back after a four-year hiatus, teaming with DJ Kygo for their new track, “Dancing Feet,” designed to make people want to dance along.  DNCE will drop the track’s official music video on Monday.

Nessa Barrett released the powerful new single and music video for “dying on the inside,” in which the TikTok star calls out impossible beauty standards.  Nessa, who struggles with an eating disorder, said she “couldn’t stop crying” when she first heard her new song and said it’s “one of the most honest songs that I’ve ever made.”

OneRepublic not only announced their first American tour in years, they also released their all-new single, “West Coast,” and its music video.  The moody single features Ryan Tedder‘s signature soaring vocals as he sings about wanting to escape to Los Angeles and hide from his troubles —  but he soon realizes he’s not the only one who ran away from their problems.

“abcdefu” singer GAYLE teamed with Justus Bennetts for his new single, “Don’t Trip.”  The anthemic track is about the two rising above peer pressure and enjoying life as they want to live it.  The duo also teamed for a music video that sees them chasing away customers at a diner so they can goof off uninterrupted.
