You Are Home: Is Harry Styles teasing a new album?

Harry Styles fans are convinced that the singer is teasing a new album with a mysterious online campaign.

The subject of the speculation is a website, Youarehome.co, which right now is only showing a door. When you click it, it opens, revealing a bunch of illustrations of different kinds of mushrooms.  It just so happens that the new line of products for Harry’s beauty and lifestyle brand, Pleasing, is called “Shroom Bloom.

There were also ads placed in newspapers around the world, advertising the website. Then, on Tuesday, Harry’s social accounts followed the Youarehome Twitter and Instagram accounts, indicating that there’s a link between them.

Another possible clue: those photos of Harry in London in February filming something that had him reclining on a huge bed. Because bed equals “home,” right?

Harry’a fans think all of this is pointing to new music, because Harry and his team pulled a similar stunt in 2019 to promote his single “Adore You.” In addition, Harry is headlining Coachella and doing a bunch of international tour dates, so having new music to perform and promote then would be pretty good.

Plus, Harry’s new movie Don’t Worry Darling, directed by his girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, is slated to be released this year, so that would increase interest in any new music he might have out.

Stay tuned.

“You’ve been punked!”: Luke Bryan’s wife pranks him on set of ‘American Idol’

Luke Bryan‘s wife Caroline got the ultimate revenge on her prankster husband.

On this week’s episode of American IdolLuke got quite the startle when his wife showed up to his place of work, in disguise as a stagehand. It all started when the “stagehand” dressed in a face mask and black sweatshirt came on to the set, causing a ruckus as she wiped down the piano.

“Aggressive on the piano,” Luke comments.

Later on, the mysterious person disrupts the audition of Skylar Dixon when she sets off her phone alarm and obnoxiously opens a bag of chips as Skylar is singing. That’s when fellow judge Katy Perry reaches her boiling point, marching over to the rude employee and rips the bag out of her hands.

“Who is that?” Luke asks.

The situation quickly escalates, with Caroline in disguise approaching the table and taking back the bag of chips, sending the judges into a fury — until Katy takes off the hood to reveal that it’s Caroline.

“Oh my God,” Luke laughs, hugging his wife before throwing the bag of chips at her.

“You’ve been punked!” shouts Lionel Richie.  It turns out that Katy was in on the joke all along, too.

“After all the stuff he’s done to me, he deserves it,” Caroline tells the camera backstage with a smile.

The couple has a history of pranking one another, with Caroline saying it started when she and Luke met in college and continues to this day with their annual Pranksmas, where they prank family and friends throughout the holiday season.

Ed Sheeran’s “traumatizing” trial concludes; judge said verdict will “take some time”

It’s a waiting game now for Ed Sheeran, whose copyright trial over his hit “Shape of You” has now concluded, reports the BBC.

According to the BBC, Ed’s lawyer Ian Mill said the 11-day trial was “deeply traumatizing” for Ed and his co-writers on the song, Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac, and said that the case “should never have gone to trial,” describing it as “deeply unfortunate.”

Ed has been accused of copying parts of “Shape of You” from the song “Oh Why,” by Sami Chokri, who performs under the name Sam Switch. In dispute is the ‘Oh I, oh I, oh I” part of the song, which follows the chorus. Chokri and his co-writer claim it’s virtually identical to their song, which came out two years before “Shape of You.”

Chokri’s lawyer argued that he’d made every attempt to send “Oh Why” to Ed in hopes that he would like the song and help promote it. Ed and his camp deny ever playing the song for Ed, or even being aware of the song.

The court was told that “Shape of You” was written in under an hour, which Chokri’s lawyer, Andrew Sutcliffe, claimed was proof that Ed had the melody of “Oh Why” “consciously or unconsciously in his head.”

But Mill argued, “Speed is indicative of the genius of Mr Sheeran and his ability to work at a speed no one else can,” and said the similarities between the songs were “too generic” to be protected by copyright.

According to the BBC, “Shape of You” earns Ed and his co-writers about seven million dollars a year, though 10% of those royalties have been frozen until the dispute is settled. The judge said he would “take some time to consider [his] judgment.”

Legendary funk musician Chaka Khan celebrates her 69th birthday

Hit songs “Ain’t Nobody” and “Sweet Thing” are just two of many iconic tracks that should be at the top of everyone’s playlist on Wednesday in honor of the legendary Chaka Khan‘s 69th birthday.

Born Yvette Marie Stevens, the “Queen of Funk” will celebrate the milestone on Wednesday night alongside her only daughter, R&B singer Indira Khan, with a show at Los Angeles’ Catalina jazz club.

Chaka shared a throwback photo of a younger version of herself and Indira in an Instagram post, along with information about the performance.

Khan rose to fame as the lead vocalist of ’70s funk band Rufus. With a very successful and even more impactful career that spans five decades, the 10-time Grammy winner is certainly considered an icon.

Although she’s a proud and devoted activist, some may not know Chaka’s beginnings as a member of Chicago’s Black Panther Party. As a young girl, she sold Black Panther papers and even opened a “Free Breakfast for Children” program. Her activism easily translated into her artistry when she produced chart topping songs like “I’m Every Woman” and 1985’s “Through the Fire.”

Chaka paved the way for many contemporary funk and R&B artists. “I’m Every Woman” has been frequently sampled and covered, including Whitney Houston‘s 1992 chart-topping version. Also, rapper Kanye West‘s 2003 debut single was a re-imagined rendition of “Through the Fire,” which nabbed a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo performance.

As stated so accurately on her official website, Chaka has “the rare ability to sing in seven music genres, including R&B, pop, rock, gospel, country, world music and classical,” and is “revered by millions of fans as well as her peers for her timeless, classic and unmatched signature music style and ability.”

Happy 69th birthday, Chaka Khan!

New Patti Smith biographical book featuring exclusive Bruce Springsteen interview due in May

Jo Hale/Redferns

A new book titled Why Patti Smith Matters that examines punk-era legend Patti Smith‘s music and literary work and its continued cultural and artistic influence will be published on May 31.

The book was written by veteran music journalist Caryn Rose, whose comprehensive research for the project included an exclusive interview with Bruce Springsteen that focused on his collaboration with Smith on the classic song “Because the Night.”

Why Patti Smith Matters looks at Smith’s life and artistic work, from her immersion in the New York City art scene beginning in the late 1960s, at first mainly as a poet, to her emergence as an influential singer and songwriter as part of the punk movement in the mid 1970s, to her acclaimed prose writing, including her award-winning 2010 memoir Just Kids.

Explaining what inspired her to write the book, Rose says, “I was eager to take on the formidable task of chronicling Patti Smith’s career because aside from Smith’s own work, the existing scholarship didn’t possess the kind of informed, careful perspective of her life and art that it deserves.”

You can pre-order Why Patti Smith Matters now at UTPress.UTexas.edu. The book is available as a paperback and via digital formats.
