Mastodon has released a song inspired by the losses they’ve experienced recently: the deaths of former bandmate Brent Hinds and the mother of drummer Brann Dailor.

Your Ghost Again” is about “those moments when you’re in those familiar places that you’ve always been with that person, and then, after they’re gone, you see them out of the corner of your eye, and it makes you sad because they’re not there,” says Dailor. “When we were in the studio recording, I kept seeing Brent. I’d see him on my right holding the guitar because that’s where he’d usually be.”

Hinds was a founding member of Mastodon alongside Dailor, bassist Troy Sanders and guitarist Bill Kelliher; he left in March 2025. He died in a motorcycle crash on Aug. 20, 2025.

Dailor continues, “It’s the same with my mom; I keep seeing her. And you get a little jolt of excitement because you think you’re actually seeing them, but then you remember they’re not here and it takes you down a notch.”

“So, it’s these big relationships for me that became the subject matter of the song. I was just singing about what I was seeing, and I was seeing ghosts.”

“Your Ghost Again” previews the band’s upcoming new full-length album, the follow-up to 2021’s Hushed and Grim.

Mastodon has also announced The Poisonous Weapons Tour, launching Sept. 16 in Orlando, Florida, with support from Deafhaven and Alcest. The tour wraps Oct. 22 in Atlanta, Georgia; the band then plays the Sick New World Festival in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 24. Tickets are available now via MastodonRocks.com.

Elvis Costello is returning to North America for a handful of shows this fall.

The rocker has booked six new dates of his Radio Soul!: The Songs of Elvis Costello From The Early Days to the Late Hours tour, starting Sept. 10 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and wrapping Sept. 18 in Muskegon, Michigan.

Costello will be backed by his band The Imposters, made up of Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher, with the addition of guitarist Charlie Sexton.

Registration is now open for an artist presale that begins Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Costello launched the tour, originally called Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello, in the summer of 2025. He performed songs from 1977’s My Aim is True to 1986’s Blood & Chocolate, as well as some “other surprises.” The addition of “to the Late Hours” in the title suggests he may be expanding the set list.

Costello is set to kick off a European/U.K. leg of Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello in Lund, Sweden, on Friday. A complete list of dates can be found at ElvisCostello.com.

On This Day, June 2, 1941…

Drummer Charlie Watts was born in London, England.

After getting his start playing blues and jazz, Watts joined The Rolling Stones in 1963, and remained with the group for 58 years until his death.

Watts, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are the only three members of the band who appear on every Stones album. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 1989.

Watts played his final show with the Stones on August 30, 2019. It was announced in August 2021 that he was going to sit out of the Stones’ No Filter tour due to heart surgery. He passed away on August 24, 2021, at the age of 80.

Watts posthumously appeared on The Rolling Stones’ 2023 album Hackney Diamonds. His drumming was featured on two songs, “Mess It Up” and “Live by the Sword,” which were recorded in 2019. He is also expected to posthumously appear on the band’s upcoming album, Foreign Tongues, which will be released July 10.

It’s been nearly four years since Little Big Town’s last non-holiday album came out, but that all changes on Aug. 28 with It’s a Dying Art

LBT’s Karen Fairchild explained the title of the foursome’s 12th studio album during their surprise pop-up show at Nashville’s 12/30 Club.

“We’ve been working on new music and the record is called It’s a Dying Art, because love is a dying art, and we want to keep that thing going,” she told the intimate crowd. “When you hear the song ‘It’s a Dying Art,’ it’s all about [how] we connect together and [what we] do together and it’s about you guys. Like, we make this music for you guys — we make it for ourselves — but this is what we live for right here is, like, the connection with you all.”

The song, officially titled “Dying Art,” is the fourth track on the record, immediately preceding the recently released “Hey There Sunshine” and “Over and Over.”

Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley Monroe and Jason Isbell all collab with Little Big Town on the record, as well.

John Mellencamp has begun rehearsals for his Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits, and he’s giving fans insight into the process.

Mellencamp shared videos on Instagram that were shot on the first day of rehearsals at Belmont Mall Studio in Indiana. The first post takes fans through the garage in which they’ve been rehearsing “since the 1980s,” according to the voiceover.

In a second video, Mellencamp lets fans know that during the tour, “we’ll be playing 27 songs and every one of them was a hit that you’ll be able to sing along with.”

“This will be the last time I play some of these songs, and the first time I’ve played some of ’em in decades,” he adds, noting, “Hope to see you all out there.”

Since announcing the tour, Mellencamp has been posting videos of him getting in shape for the trek, which usually find him exercising while smoking — something he says isn’t about to change.

At the end of the video, he tells his followers, “And oh, by the way I’m still working out and I’m still smoking,” before lighting up a cigarette.

When Mellencamp initially announced the tour, he said his sets will include hits like “Jack & Diane,” “Hurts So Good,” “Small Town” and “Pink Houses,” along with songs like “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. (A Salute To 60’s Rock),” “I Need a Lover,” “Wild Night” and “Ain’t Even Done With the Night,” which he hasn’t played in years.

The Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits begins July 10 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and wraps Aug. 12 in Mountain View, California. A complete list of dates can be found at Mellencamp.com.

With two tours, Josh Groban fans are spoiled for choice this summer

It’s an embarrassment of riches for Josh Groban fans this summer, as he’s embarking on two tours with two completely different vibes. According to Josh, one will be “more high-energy,” while the other will be more “classical-leaning.”

On Tuesday, Josh launches a joint tour with Jennifer Hudson. On Aug. 11, he starts a solo tour, Stage, Screen, and Symphony, during which he’ll sing with symphony orchestras. He notes both treks will spotlight his new album, Cinematic, featuring his takes on classic movie songs.

“Absolutely,” he tells ABC Audio when asked if he’ll perform Cinematic songs on the tour with Jennifer. “That tour will be, I’d say probably four or five songs from the new album because I just can’t wait to sing them live. They’re so big and epic and really right for those venues.”

“And then, of course, Jennifer and I are gonna do our duet from the album, ‘Unchained Melody,’ every night, which will be fun,” he adds. “And then it will also be just a retrospective of all my songs and stuff that fans have loved for the last 25 years.”

As for the Stage, Screen and Symphony tour, Josh tells ABC Audio, “We’re still coming up with the set list now, but … that’s gonna lean heavier into the more symphonic world. And I’m gonna take from the Stages album and the Cinematic album and maybe some songs that I’ve always wanted to do that I have never done.”

He continues, “So that’s going to be a little bit more of a kind of traditional, more classical-leaning night, whereas the tour with Jennifer is gonna be a much more high-energy show.”

If you can’t make it out to see Josh this summer, he’s performing in Las Vegas in the fall.

Sabrina Carpenter seeks restraining order against alleged stalker

Sabrina Carpenter is fearing for her safety after she says an alleged stalker tried to enter her home in May.

The “Espresso” artist, 27, filed a civil harassment restraining order on May 29 against William Applegate, 31, who she alleges went to her Los Angeles home on May 23 “unannounced and uninvited.”

In her declaration, she says that Applegate trespassed onto her neighbor’s property to “breach the security fencing protecting” her home and then “forced his way closer to my residence and advanced directly to my front door.”

Carpenter then alleges that Applegate “physically grabbed the lever of my front door and forcefully pushed it down, actively trying to force his way inside my home without any invitation, permission, or consent whatsoever.”

The petition goes on to say that after Applegate allegedly knocked on Carpenter’s door and rang the doorbell, a member of the singer’s security team “intervened and physically removed Applegate.” However, Carpenter says that Applegate still “refused to comply.” Applegate allegedly remained on the premises of the property until LAPD officers arrived on scene.

Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department wrote in a separate declaration that Applegate was placed under arrest after the incident and “taken into custody for criminal trespass in violation of California Penal Code § 602(m),” which makes it a misdemeanor to “enter and occupy real property or structures without the consent of the owner, their agent, or the person in lawful possession.”

Doomanis alleged that Carpenter was “in genuine fear for her personal safety” at the time of the incident and “continues to fear for her safety to this day.”

After Applegate’s arrest on May 23, he was released and returned to Carpenter’s home on May 24 and May 25 according to the singer’s private security guards in court docs.

Carpenter’s restraining order also protects her sister, Sarah Carpenter, 29, and her significant other, George Smith, 26, who live with the singer at her home.

“The totality of Applegate’s conduct has caused me significant and ongoing fear for my personal safety and the safety of all individuals residing in my home,” Carpenter said in her declaration, adding that Applegate’s alleged attempts to enter her home without consent are “among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced.”

Carpenter continued, “His delusional insistence that he knows me and was expected by me is indicative of a dangerous, delusional, and irrational fixation on me. His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress, and I am in fear of what he may do if he is not restrained by this Court.”

The District Attorney’s office says that no criminal charges have been filed against Applegate.

ABC News has reached out to representatives for Carpenter for comment and to Applegate.
