It’s Friday!  Let’s see who’s out with new tunes.

The Chainsmokers surprise-dropped “Riptide,” the next single off their forthcoming studio album, So Far So Good.   The song is about wanting to be with someone, even though it’s unsure they’ll stick around for the long term.  EDM duo also released the song’s lyric video on Friday.

After previewing it at Coachella and watching fan-captured videos of the performance go viral, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her ferocious new single, “Plan B.”  The breakup anthem has the Grammy winner rapping about the sins of her ex and why she needs no man because “Imma die independent.”  She also urges, “Ladies, love yourself.”

Alesso teamed with fellow Swede Zara Larsson for “Words.”  “With its dizzying yet immaculately arranged layers of beats, the high-energy track takes on a thrilling intensity as Zara confesses to a certain fear of vulnerability in love,” the press release teases, adding the song is “an unstoppable anthem for owning your fear and following your heart.”

David Guetta teamed with “Ghost” singer Ella Henderson and Becky Hill for “Crazy What Love Can Do,” a dance-fueled track about falling head over heels in love and experiencing the wild side effects.  The trio also released the track’s music video, which features Ella and Becky leading police on a wild police chase, which is overseen by Guetta.

Train teamed with Spice Girl singer Melanie C for an all-new remix of their track “AM Gold.” Frontman Pat Monahan said of the collab, “My family and I have always loved Melanie and her group, and when we asked her to be a part of this, she was kind enough to accept and did an incredible job on it.”  The remix also features Swedish DJ Tobtok.

Sting‘s partnership with reggae star Shaggy is continuing with a very unexpected project.

The former Police frontman and the chart-topping “It Wasn’t Me” singer won the Best Reggae Album Grammy in 2019 for their joint album, 44/876.  Now they’ve teamed up for a new album, due out May 25, called Com Fly Wid Me.

Conceived and produced by Sting, the album features Shaggy singing reggae versions of Frank Sinatra classics like “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Luck Be a Lady,” “Under My Skin” and more.  Turns out Sting came up with this unconventional idea three years ago, when he and Shaggy were on a boat in Norway and Sting heard Shaggy singing along with a Sinatra tune that was playing on the boat’s sound system.

In a statement, Sting says, “This idea of getting my friend to sing ten iconic songs from the Frank Sinatra songbook in a reggae style had been brewing for a while…I know, it sounds crazy! But every time the idea crossed my mind, it made me smile. And what does the world need now, more than anything else…something to smile about!”

“He’s not trying to be Frank, he’s Shaggy,” Sting adds. “So, relax and let that smile soothe the cares of the world away,” Sting adds.

A one-night-only performance celebrating the album’s release will take place May 26 at New York City’s Blue Note Jazz Club. Details of the gig will be announced soon.

Cardi B issued a strongly-worded reminder Thursday that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and why everyone should care about the issue.

“Before April is over, don’t forget it’s sexual assault awareness month, no means no!” the “Up” rapper explained on Twitter. “It doesn’t matter what you wear, it doesn’t matter who you are, male or female. For anyone going through this, the shame is not yours to carry… it’s the monsters who do this.”

“Also parents we can’t forget our children. There are sick people everywhere, daycare, schools, you name it,” Cardi continued in a follow-up tweet, “Make sure you teach them from a early age, no one is to touch your private parts & never be afraid to tell mommy & daddy when someone makes you uncomfortable.”

The Grammy winner then continued the conversation on Instagram, sharing screenshots of her prior messages before continuing in the caption, “Bringing the awareness can be a key to help stopping it. Women, children, and even men should never have to feel like they should be silenced or ashamed for telling their story and holding sick a** people accountable.”

“We have to be more careful in protecting ourselves and our children by teaching them that there are no secrets when it comes to mommy and daddy,” she added. “When one person speaks up it helps others see they are not alone.”

Michael Bublé hopes the younger generations fall in love with jazz: “It’s too good to die”

Michael Bublé is an old soul.  Growing up, he “loved” listening to jazz legends such as Dean MartinTony Bennett and others — and he hopes to share his appreciation of the classics with the younger crowd.

“The music I was listening to was from a different generation,” the Grammy winner told Esquire, “I just loved the music. It turned me on. And what’s even weirder was, I couldn’t understand why other kids my age didn’t feel the same way.”

Michael added, “It’s just so swingin’ and the musicians are just so bada**. That’s what I mean when I say, how can anyone not hear that and go, ‘Wow!'”

The “I’ll Never Not Love You” singer hopes his songs inspire the younger generation to preserve the spirit of jazz music.  Michael is comforted that he’s not alone in the battle, citing artists such as Jon BatisteHarry Connick Jr. and others who are “keeping the legacy alive” by acting as “custodians of this genre.”

“We admire each other and it’s not competition,” he attested. “It’s truly genuine appreciation for how each of us have sort of taken the root of jazz, and with the seeds sown by our heroes and now as the tree grows and there are different branches, and each of us have a small part in keeping it alive.”

“It’s too good to die,” Michael remarked, “When it comes to the music I take it dead serious. I feel like we all have this wonderful gift of the responsibility of honoring our heroes.”

The Canadian crooner added his children are gravitating toward older music all on their own without his influence, revealing his eight-year-old son, Noah, loves “50s-era rock and roll, like Elvis Presley.”

“I always think, could this be genetic?” Michael laughed.

Cynthia Albritton, who as Cynthia Plaster Caster became famous for immortalizing the genitalia of male musicians in plaster, has died, Variety reports. She was 74.

Albritton started her career in Chicago in 1968, thanks to a plaster casting assignment from her college art teacher. She came up with the idea of casting the male member, and her first celebrity “subject” was Jimi Hendrix.  After meeting Frank Zappa, he became her patron and moved her to LA, where she found plenty of other willing subjects.

Among her dozens of subjects: Jimi Hendrix Experience bass player Noel Redding, MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, The Rascals’ Eddie Brigati, The Lovin’ Spoonful‘s Zal Yanovsky, Beach Boys drummer and Rutles member Ricky Fataar, Foghat‘s Tony Stevens, Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys, Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks, and Television guitarist Richard Lloyd.

In 2000, Albritton expanded her repertoire by casting the breasts of female musicians, including Suzi Gardner of L7 and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

As Variety reports, Zappa and Albritton decided in 1971 that the casts should be kept somewhere safe for a future exhibition, and gave them to Zappa’s business partner, Herb Cohen. In 1993, Albritton had to initiate legal proceedings to get back the casts she’d given Cohen for safekeeping. All but three of the 25 were returned.

Albritton has either inspired or been mentioned in several songs, including KISS’ “Plaster Caster” and Jim Croce‘s “Five Short Minutes.” A recording of a telephone conversation between her and famed groupie Pamela Des Barres appears on Permanent Damage, the first and only album by the all-girl group The GTOs, which was produced by Zappa.  She was also the subject of the documentary titled Plaster Caster.
