Indie rock fans were eating well on July 10, 2007.

Sunday marked the 15th anniversary of both Interpol‘s Our Love to Admire and Spoon‘s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, significant albums in both bands’ careers.

Coming off Interpol’s first two albums, which for readers of Spin magazine and Pitchfork might as well have been Beatles records for how revered they were, Our Love to Admire marked the “Evil” group’s first — and only — major label full-length, and is their first — and only — top-five Billboard 200 release.

“I think the record itself is a very natural step into where Interpol was going at that time,” guitarist Daniel Kessler tells ABC Audio, mentioning the inclusion of more keyboards and other new sonic elements. “I think we were pushing ourselves in more musical, musician kind of ways versus trying to do things that we hope will appeal to a mass audience.”

Fifteen years later, Kessler feels that Our Love to Admire, which includes the single “The Heinrich Maneuver,” has “held up well.”

“I feel like that record has matured well with our fans over time,” he says.

Like Interpol did on Our Love to Admire, Spoon introduced some new elements to their sounds with Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, such as horns on the single “The Underdog.” The record gave Spoon their first top-10 on the Billboard 200, along with some other memorable “milestones” for the band.

“The major one being playing SNL,” says drummer Jim Eno. “That was probably the highlight of my Spoon career, I think. I mean, that was just amazing.”

The Interpol/Spoon connection continues 15 years later this summer when they launch their co-headlining Lights, Camera, Factions Tour, kicking off August 25 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Lizzo may be a superstar but she’s a fan, too — and she was thrilled when, over the weekend, she spotted a member of BTS vibing to her latest hit.

In a vlog uploaded this weekend, BTS member V is shown grooving in his car to various songs following a trip to the dentist.  When Lizzo’s latest hit “About Damn Time” comes on, he says, “I love Lizzo’s songs” and starts dancing in his seat.

On Twitter, Lizzo wrote, “Wait… is this real? Is V really dancing to about damn time?!?”  She then posted a video of herself and V side-by-side, mimicking all of his dance moves. She added the hashtag #VIZZO, causing fans to start calling for a collaboration.

Later, V reposted Lizzo’s side-by-side video on his Instagram Story, repeating the #VIZZO hashtag.

Lizzo is a big fan of BTS: Last September, she posted a video of herself freestyling about the friendship between V and Jimin. She also got to hang out with V, Jimin, J-Hope and Jungkook at a Harry Styles concert, and last November, BTS member RM told Access Hollywood that Lizzo actually has a crush on both V and Jimin.

Following Carlos Santana‘s onstage collapse last Tuesday during a show in the Detroit suburb of Clarkston, Michigan, his band immediately postponed a concert the following night in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, and now the group has postponed six additional performances.

The affected shows, which will be rescheduled, were to have taken place on June 8 in Noblesville, Indiana; June 9 in Cincinnati; July 10 in Milwaukee as part of the city’s Summerfest event; July 12 in Rogers, Arkansas; July 15 in Dallas, Texas; and July 16 in the Houston suburb of The Woodlands, Texas.

Carlos’ illness during the Clarkston show has been reported as “serious heat exhaustion and dehydration,” and the guitar legend’s manager, Michael Vrionis, explains in a statement that the concerts are being postponed “out of an abundance of caution for the artist’s health.”

He adds, “Doctor’s have recommended that Mr. Santana gets rest to recuperate fully.”  Carlos will turn 75 on July 20

Santana is scheduled to resume touring on July 23 with a performance at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California.

“Carlos is doing well and is anxious to be back on stage soon. He just needs rest,” Vrionis says. “Santana profoundly regrets…these postponements of his upcoming performances; but, his health is our number one concern. He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon.”

Tickets purchased for the postponed concerts will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Visit Santana.com to check out all of the band’s confirmed shows.

Earlier this year, Five for Fighting released a song called “Can One Man Save the World,” which was inspired by the steadfastness of Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky in the face of the Russian invasion.  Now, John Ondrasik, the man behind Five for Fighting, has released a new charity video of the song, co-starring the Ukrainian Orchestra. It premiered Saturday on ABC’s Good Morning America.

To create the video, John and a film crew made a grueling journey to a war-torn area of Ukraine. They filmed amid the ruins of the Antonov Airport, in front of what’s left of “Mriya,” the world’s largest cargo plane, which the Russians destroyed at the beginning of the war.

John made the video with the help of Save Our Allies, a rescue and relief organization that was formed in August of 2021 after Afghanistan fell to the Taliban following the U.S. withdrawal. It’s since provided support for evacuations from Ukraine.  Proceeds from the single and the video will benefit Save Our Allies.

During the filming, a top Ukrainian general and his entourage approached them and told them that President Zelensky had personally approved the use of the airport as a location. The general, who didn’t speak English, asked to hear the song, so John and the orchestra played it.

Despite the fact that the soldiers didn’t understand the words, John says, “Many of the onlookers were in tears. The significance and weight of our location, mission, and a country fighting for its survival hit home…It was the moment, the music, and our common humanity that spoke to all of us.”

John says he hopes to organize a “Live Aid”-type concert benefit concert for Ukraine at the end of the summer, to benefit Ukrainian relief and refugees.

Shawn Mendes has decided that his current Wonder tour was just too much, too soon.

The Canadian superstar has announced that he plans to hit pause on his trek for the next three weeks so he can focus on his mental health. In an Instagram post, he writes, “I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest, it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family.”

“After a few years off from the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature,” he continues. “Unfortunately, the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point. After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost.”

Shawn said the postponement would last through his July 29 show in Uncasville, CT.  He signed off by promising fans he would let them know “as soon as there are more updates.”

Neil Young has revealed that he just finished making a new studio album with Crazy Horse that he co-produced with Rick Rubin.

In a message posted Thursday on his Neil Young Archives website, the 76-year-old folk-rock legend explains that he’d like to release the album immediately, “but it won’t be out until later in this year,” because it will take some time for the vinyl to be manufactured.

“Listeners want vinyl for its quality and it’s worth waiting for,” he says, adding that some tracks from the album will be made available one at a time in advance leading up to the record’s release.

“With this recording, something special is happening and we know we have a good one,” Young enthuses about the new project. “It’s too early to say any more because in this world things come and go so fast. But real magic lasts and we think we have it.”

The as-yet-untitled album is a follow-up to Barn, which Young and Crazy Horse recorded in June 2021 and released in December.

“It’s the same band, Crazy Horse, but the music is unlike Barn, our last offering,” Neil writes. “Music lives!!!!! Two records made in one year!!!!!!!”

Veteran Norwegian pop-rock band A-ha, best known for their chart-topping 1985 hit “Take On Me,” have unveiled plans to release a new studio album called True North and a companion film of the same name in the coming months.

The album, which will be released on October 21, was recorded in November 2021 in the Norwegian city of Bodø, located just south of the Arctic Circle. The film, which documents the making of the album, will premiere in select theaters around the world in late summer and then will be made available for rental or purchase on October 21.

The first single from True North, “I’m In,” was released Friday via digital formats, along with a video featuring footage of A-ha performing the emotional song with Norway’s Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra.

A-ha multi-instrumentalist Magne Furuholmen, who wrote “I’m In,” says the song is a tune “about total commitment and a show of support for someone who is troubled.”

The True North film features the group performing and recording the new songs with the orchestra and also captures the band members discussing the project around Bodø. In addition, the film features scenes where actors portray life in the northern region of Norway.

True North is a letter from A-ha, from the Arctic Circle, a poem from the far north of Norway with new music,” says Furuholmen.

The True North album can be preordered now and will be available on CD, as a two-LP vinyl set, digitally and as limited deluxe edition featuring the CD, the two LPs, a 40-page hard-cover book and a USB card.

Blondie has released a rare demo of a song called “I Love You Honey, Give Me a Beer” that was recorded in 1980 and that will be featured on the band’s expansive forthcoming box set, Blondie: Against the Odds 1974-1982, which is due out August 26.

The track, which is available now via digital formats, is an early version of “Go Through It,” a country-flavored tune that appeared on the band’s hit 1980 album, Autoamerican.

As previously reported, Against the Odds focuses on the influential New Wave band’s original heyday and is fully authorized by the group.

The retrospective, which can be preordered now, will be available in multiple formats and configurations, including an eight-CD set and a super deluxe collectors’ edition that features 10 12-inch vinyl LPs, a 10-inch LP and a 7-inch vinyl single.

The vinyl box set features 124 tracks, 36 of which are previously unreleased. The collection contains remastered versions of Blondie’s first six studio albums — 1976’s Blondie, 1977’s Plastic Letters, 1978’s Parallel Lines, 1979’s Eat to the Beat, Autoamerican and 1982’s The Hunter — and four LPs of outtakes, demos, remixes, alternate versions, home recordings and other rarities.

The 10-inch disc features additional rarities from 1974 and ’75, while the vinyl single boasts a cover of The Doors‘ “Moonlight Drive” and a demo of the song “Mr. Sightseer.”

The box set also includes extensive liner notes and track-by-track commentary from Blondie’s Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke, and from former members Jimmy Destri, Nigel Harrison, Frank Infante and Gary Valentine.

Blondie: Against the Odds also will be available as a four-LP package, a three-CD set and digitally.

A new TikTok video shows Harry Styles coming to a fan’s defense when performing in Antwerp, Belgium. A woman from North Carolina was waving a sign that said she was “stuck” in Europe, so naturally Harry asked her about it onstage. Once the audience learned she was American, they started booing.  Harry looked appalled and tried lightening the mood by interacting further with the stranded fan — who definitely loved the extra attention.

If you need help rehabbing a cheap wig, just ask Lindsey Stirling. She revealed on Instagram that she ordered two $30 wigs off Amazon for her “Til The Light Goes Out” music video. She styled the wigs herself and revealed that if you want your wig to look “expensive,” you “cut some little wispy hairs in front to mask the cheap hairline.”

It’s been 40 years since Janet Jackson released her debut solo single, “Young Love,” and the Grammy winner has been celebrating the milestone anniversary on Instagram. “Wow it’s been 40 years u guys. Thank u so much for all the LUV,” she wrote while sharing some throwback pictures of the single’s official artwork.

How would you celebrate your kid’s birthday? How about a giant bubble bath? That’s what Jewel did! The singer is on tour and revealed she convinced a venue to put a ton of bubbles in their in-ground pool so her kid could enjoy some pre-birthday shenanigans. Jewel is currently on tour with Train and Blues Traveler.

Heart singer Ann Wilson will take part in a special performance at an exhibition of Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay‘s extensive collection of rock memorabilia and other historic artifacts, which will be held August 2 in Irsay’s hometown of Chicago.

Wilson will perform at the event with The Jim Irsay Band, which features Irsay backed by founding R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, longtime John Mellencamp guitarist Mike Wanchic, John Fogerty touring drummer Kenny Aronoff and other noteworthy musicians.

The exhibit of the Jim Irsay Collection and the performance will take place at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier and will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CT. The event is free, but tickets will be required to attend and can be reserved at Eventbrite.com.

Irsay’s collection includes guitars that were played and/or owned by Bob Dylan, members of The Beatles, Prince, Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead‘s Jerry Garcia, Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour and many other famous musicians.

The collection also features other instruments, as well as autographed photos, handwritten lyrics and more. The most recent additions to Irsay’s trove of memorabilia is the guitar that late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain played in his band’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video, and the guitar on which the late Janis Joplin learned to play “Me and Bobby McGee.”

Some non-music-related items also are part of the collection: an original “Wanted” poster for John Wilkes Booth, a baseball bat used by Jackie Robinson and a robe worn by Muhammad Ali.
